Making an arrow in FCP to point to someone

I created an arrow in Photoshop and saved it as a .png. I need to scale and rotate depending on the video that is playing (I'm pointing out a football player), but when I add the image it is very rigid. It loses the smoothness of the original file.
Not sure how to correct this pixelation. Perhaps there is a way to create an arrow within FCP...

The arrow will have straight and sharp lines which when rotated will tend to alias. a slight blur will help this.
The other option might be to create a solid circle and drop the opacity of the circle as it follows the player. It will not be as clean as it is in photoshop since you are going from a still image progressive display to an interlaced display moving image. depending on what line it is on you may see some distortion on the top or bottom of the circle

Starting about a week ago, my cursor changes from a plain arrow to a 4-pointed star. It also moves by itself and I cannot control it. It makes it VERY hard to scroll up or down, and it stops scrolling every so often.

Hi Krist, <br />Sorry you are having problems.
It is a while mow since I used XP, I do not remember a 4 pointed star option for the cursor.
    *Is this only on Firefox?
If other programs are affected it is something to do with Windows XP or software installed on that.
If it is only on Firefox then as an initial step try in Firefox's safe mode with all plugins disabled. You may start safemode by using
    * Help -> Restart with addons disabled

  • Creating arrows to indicate specific point on a frame

I am in the middle of a project using FCP HD and I need to create arrows to pint to specific body parts on either a photo or video. Is this something I have to do in photoshop or can I do this in FCP? I really have know idea how to go about doing this or what program to use...thought I would start here. i would appreciate any advice on this.
    Thank you.

I have always created my arrows in Photoshop and then imported them into FCP. Works real well and is very easy to do. I now have a file with different colored arrows to be use when ever...
    Hope this helps

  • Making money using FCE/FCP (I'm getting ahead of myself!)

I received a quick and friendly response to my last question so I think I will try this again.
Is it hard making a living in the film/video industry as an editor?
I am at a four year university and I have to decide my major next month. Originally I wanted to go for graphic design. After discovering film, I started to change my mind. My peers seem to think my movies are great but they might just be trying to say nice things.
Anyhow, for some reason I feel like I am setting myself up for poverty by majoring in moving image. I would ask my professors but they are all going to say:"Film is great...go for it!"
Can I get some input here?

I don't know anything about full time work based on editing, but there are numerous people on the FCP forum who can tell you how easy it is!!!!
Working part-time you can generate a useful income. My sixteen year old next door neighbour filmed birthday parties etc. for £200 a go plus extra cash for additional DVDs.
He started with friends and his fame spread by word of mouth.
Another, much older friend videos weddings for around £1,000.
So there are lots of opportunities out there.
As for me, I sometimes make videos of weddings and special events, providing up to 8 additional DVDs and once I actually received payment . . . . . in the shape of a tin of Roses chocolates!
So we don't all earn a fortune from our hobby.

  • Using Arrow Keys to Move Pointer - Mouse Keys?

Hello, I am trying to use Universal Access on a new MacBook Pro.
Ideally, I would like to move the screen pointer by holding the function key (or some command type key) and the directional arrows - instead of using the mouse. Is there a way to map the keys to do this?
I tried to turn on Universal Access and turning on Mouse Keys, but there are no instructions in the Help section that tell you which keys move in what directions. Anyhow, after confirming that it was on, no keys would move the pointer or do any mouse functions.
    Thank you!

    Hello Saksiri-san,
Mouse Keys are controlled by the numeric keys which form a secondary keypad in the block: J->1, K->2, L->3, ;->-, U->4, I->5, O->6, P->*, 7->7, 8->8, 9->9, 0->/. M gives 0 and / gives +, all on an English-language keyboard of course. The movement is U or 4 to the left, O or 6 to the right and so on. The I or 5 key gives the mouse click.
Once Mouse Keys are on, you will normally need to use the fn key as well as those in the secondary numeric keypad to move the mouse. This can be avoided by setting the default option to "software functions" in the Keyboard tab of the Keyboard and Mouse pane of System Preferences.

  • How to add arrow in FCP

My friend's football coach wants me to add an arrow over a player on the video to show the viewer which player to focus on. The video is supposed to be used to help the player get recruited to play for college football.
What plug-ins are available for something like this?

Not sure if this is what you are looking for...
You can make the arrow in the text generator or import a still image of an arrow as footage, preferably a .png or something with an alpha channel. Then you can lay on top of your clip, adjust scale/rotation, and place it on top of the player.
It's kind of a pain to animate things in FCP but, it can be done.
    To animate it...
Create keyframes for the Center position of the arrow clip (click on the diamond shape next to the X,Y values to the right of "Center" in the motion tab of the clip)
Place the arrow over the player at the beginning of the clip.
Advance one frame at a time and adjust the center of the arrow to follow the player you are highlighting. It may be tough to make the animation real smooth this way, but it will get the job done.
    Hope that helps.
Videocopilot.net has some tutorials on motion-tracking in After Effects, if you happen to have that program.

  • Making an ARMY with FCP

I am pretty sure no one is going to be able to give me a detailed answer here but I just wanted to know on a general level how one would make an army with really only having 3 Actors. I know this goes way beyond the cloning tool. I asked a acquaintence and he told me that you would have to do that kind of stuff with Adobe After Effects. Does FCP contain this feature?

    Detailed answer...sort of...
    1. Did you shoot your 3 Actors on greenscreen?
    2. If Yes to 1, do you know how to key out greenscreen footage?
    3. If Yes to 1 and 2, make your actors small (motion tab/scale) then layer up your tracks and move them around (motion tab/position). Do this about 100 times to get 300 army strong.
3a. If NO to 1 and 2, search the web for rotoscoping and keying out footage.
    4. Now, 100 layers may NOT be possible in FCP so realistically, you should go with a program like After Effects, or heck, even Motion using a replicator.
    5. Seriously, it's not ideal to try to do what you are wanting in FCP and 3 actors even offsetting frames may not look that great, but it is doable. You won't be making Lord of the Rings, or The 300, but you could pull the effect off if you have the patience.
Hope you find this somewhat helpful.

  • How can I save space on my Macbook Pro after making videos on iMovie & FCP ? Should I delete my files after?

Okay so I make a lot of videos on my mac for my Youtube Channel. I have quite a few projects and movies from Movie, but ive recently switched over to Final Cut pro and the rest is history. However im running out of space on my hard drive, FAST! to the point i cant even edit my new video. Silly me for not paying attention to the warning signs (ie slow computer duh...)
So my question is, is it smart to delete my projects, events and original videos once ive exported and uploaded the the final video? I think Im quite the hoarder when it comes to these things like im worried i might need it for something. Is there anyone who has a YT channel or makes videos regularly relate to what im saying and what are your ways on saving space and what you do once you've finished your project?????
Thanks a bunch if you can help I just need someone else's insight and opinion to help me decide what to do....

There are really two answers depending on how much money you are willing to spend, and how much editing you plan to do on the footage.
Option 1) You can rely on your Digital8 tapes for backup, and re-import them if you ever need the footage again. You can delete your event files (once you have completed all Projects). Once you have SHARED your projects in all sizes you need, the projects are in a compressed format. Once you delete the Event files, no further editing will be possible.
Option 2) Keep the Event Files on a large external hard drive, and back it up. This way, you have maximum flexibility for future editing, future new projects, and you don't have to worry about the lengthy import from a nearly obsolete tape format again. I recommend Option 2. External drives are relatively cheap these days, and your time is probably more valuable than the cost of an external drive and the cost of the re-import.

  • Making a DVD from FCP X project

A few projects ago, I could render a movie for DVD from FCP X onto a DVD to burn.  Then, it would be working for hours and hours and never finish.. a day later, it wasn't finished.  Can't make one since.
What could be the problem? I s some part of the process too big for my hardware or software?  Can I change something to allow it to work again?
Any ideas?  Perhaps something is set wrong?
    Thank you for any suggestions.

    What version are you running?
Do you get a Publishing Error -29?

  • Making master DVD from FCP Quicktime

Could someone please explain to me exactly what process, every step, I have to do to with my master FCP Quicktime movies in order to make a DVD master using iDVD? Its 4.8GB plus a second film of 2.4GB. Much appreciated!!!

    Terry
    You can start here:
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#idvd
but, what do you mean with DVD master?
Besides that, the key factor is not the file size of your source movie but the total lenght in minutes. Why don't you uses DVDSP?
    Hope that helps !

  • Making Anamorphic Sequence in FCP Standalone QT Movie 16:9

    50+ film @ http://elmerlang.com including:

Coupla ways. Open the file in QT and hit Apple-J... then with the top name (file name) selected... hit the Presentation TAB and check Conform Aperture to: CLEAN.
Or - IF you are using QT Conversion... use the OTHER tab after you set your quality to change SIZE to something that reflects 16:9 -- like 480x270.

  • Making an arrow that can be moved around and switch directions

how do you create an arrow that can be moved and pionted in different directions

Use transform to rotate and move around.  However, it's often faster just to draw a new arrow.
