Making An iDvd using 2 iMovies

is it possible to use 2 iMovies to make 1 iDVD? i have a couple of projects i would like to combine. Do i have to make it into 1 huge iMovie, or can i use iDVD so that it creates one movie when i burn them? thanks

Hello Antoinette,
is it possible to use 2 iMovies to make 1 iDVD?
Definitely yes. The limit in iDVD is not the number of movies (or their file size), but the total running time of the movie(s). A Single Layer DVD can hold as much as 120 min. of video (incl. menus). I would recommend to keep the total of the imported movies under 110 min, to give iDVD some extra room - it helps avoiding errors in the encoding/burn process.
Do i have to make it into 1 huge iMovie, or can i use iDVD so that it creates one movie when i burn them?
If you want to play all your movies continously, you'll have to join them in iMovie (iDVD doesn't edit video). If it's OK to play them one by one, you can import them separately into your iDVD project - they will show up as single items on the menu and after viewing one the DVD brings you back to the menu and you can select another.
hope this helps

  • Pictures are blurry when slideshow is burned to dvd using iPhoto, iMovie and iDvd. How do I correct?

I used iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD... How do I create a slideshow burned to a DVD without getting blurry images when slideshow is played through DVD a player?

You created the slideshow using the built-in Ken Burns effect in iPhoto or iMovie? I've never found that to be up to my expectations; additionally, if the people or objects in the pictures have certain designs (in their clothes), using movement can blur them. I use Photo to Movie myself - to me it creates the smoothest movement in slideshows. Another possibility is the size of your images: did you increase or decrease their original size? And when you encoded it, what settings did you use? I use the Share > Quicktime > Expert settings and then choose these options:
I've found that these settings result in the most lossless conversion. After the new .mov file is saved to the desktop, I then add it to iDVD after creating a customized menu and theme.

  • IDVD quality *****- any other burning programs to use with iMovie

I've made an all picture slideshow, about 4 minutes, with music in iMovie for my husband to show clients (for photography business). Looks great in iMovie, once burned with iDVD in best & professional quality, it looks horrible. Pixilated, grainy, and not good enough to show clients. Anyone recommend other burning programs to purchase? Any other ideas to make this look good?

    Hi
Doing slideShows in iMovie 1 to HD 6. I don't use "Share/Export to iDVD" from
    within iMovie.
I close iMovie and import the Show from iDVD = iDVD renders and does this OK.
    iMovie'08 & 09 - Never tired that.
Alt. to iDVD is to burn with Roxio Toast™ ($$$ - cost)

  • I would like to create a slide show and then burn to a DVD.  I may be interested in adding music.  Should I use iPhone, iMovie or a simple Powerpoint?

I am going to be creating a slide show and then burning it to a couple of DVDs.  I have used PPT in the past for simple slide shows for speaking engagements, but I am interested in adding music to this slide show.  What is the best/easiest application to use?  iMovie, iPhoto or Powerpoint?
    Thanks!

burning it to a couple of DVDs
Is it your intention to create video DVDS that can be played on TV sets via DVD players?  If so you'll need a video DVD authoring application like iDVD.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  For iPhoto 9.4.3 and earlier select Size = Medium or Large. For iPhoto 9.5 and later selct 480p.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best quality video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

  • Making & Burning Slideshow using 'slideshow' at bottom of iPhoto Library?

Hello. I would appreciate if someone can help me from beginning to finished product of making a slideshow using for example the Snapshot effect and music from iTunes.
I will go over in point form to the point where I am unable to proceed any further:
    1--I select pictures in iPhoto.
2--I click on 'slideshow' at the bottom of the iPhoto page.
3--I click on 'themes' and select 'snapshots'.
4--I click on the iTunes icon in slideshow and choose music.
This is as far as I have been able to go as I dont see anything that
will allow me to transfer this to DVD.
I am making a 100th birthday slideshow and hope someone can assist me on this. Thanks.

Go to the Share menu at the top and select the iDVD option. When you've completed the iDVD project save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.
This will separate the encoding process from the burning process. Mount the disk image and play it with DVD Player. If it plays OK the encoding was good. Now burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed possible to get the best quality burn.

  • Make a dvd menu like iDVD used to?

How can I create a dvd menu like iDVD used to? I need to be able to navigate through a dvd like menu (not necessary burn a dvd, but have it play on my computer) and without iDVD I don't know how. I would rather not have to drop $30, $40, $50 on a new app from a random third party..... help!

You are not addressing Apple here. Please use the feedback below and it will be read by Apple.   Your feedback is important. Apple does change its mind.

By far, iDVD is your best choice. I have tried many alternatives nothing else comes close. You can purchase iDVD on Amazon as part of iLife 11.
Be advised, that the newest iMovie cannot set chapter markers!  I would recommend the use of iMovie HD or iMovie 11.  My own preference is iMovie HD.
You can set chapters with iDVD but it is a little more difficult.

  • Is there a way to go move a project from IDVD back to IMOVIE?

This is clearly a newbie question:
I know how to share from Imovie to IDVD and I made my IDVD project, but now I don't know if I still have the IMovie I originally transferred.
Is there a way to move a project from IDVD back to IMOVIE?

First, go back to iMovie and look under both iMovie Events and Projects to see if you still have the movie. Double check by looking in Finder to where you save the movies you create. For instance, if you save to Movies, there should be folders in there for iMovie Events and iMovie Projects. If they are there, you should see them in the lists in iMovie.
If not, I don't think there is a way you can move it directly back to iMovie. Is there a real need to have it in iMovie? Unless you are going to change the movie, there is not a need to keep it there. If, for some reason you want it there, however, you can go thru the process of copying the DVD back to the hard drive using MPEG Streamclip, and exporting it to Quicktime. Then open iMovie, and bring it back into iMovie.

  • FCE helps making better quality videos than imovie?

I have been using iMovie HD and it looks like its corrupted and cannot re-install it since I lost the disk image.
I am thinking of going to FCE over upgrading to iLife 09.

if your source is miniDV/Standard - yes.
if your source is 720p or iFrame - no.
in terms of speed and simplicity - iM09 is 'better'.
in terms of options and feature - FCE is by far superior.
note: iM09 is no 'upgrade' of your version, but a from ground off new app.
another note: FCE has a very steem learning curve, but after managing that is a fantastic tool!

  • Panoramic QuicktimeVR- possible to use in iMovie?

I have a few panoramic stitched together photos saved as QuicktimeVR files. I thought it would be a cool effect to use in my vacation movie as kind of a slow pan, is it possible? Or can a panoramic jpeg be used with Ken Burns effect?

A slow pan across a photo is not possible in iMovie, which is why a lot of people (including me) making slide shows use an application called Photo to Movie:
    http://www.lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php
which can do that and a host of other effects as well.
Basically, you make the slide show in Photo to Movie, then convert that to DV for iMovie (Photo to Movie does that for you), import into a new iMovie project and away you go!

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Importing iDVD project into iMovie

I want to send a slide show from iDVD into iMovie. The show looks normal in quicktime but when I attempt to drag the .mov file into iMovie I get the message "Error during import. The file could not be imported: Unknown error". The procedure has worked fine in the past but now I've hit a brick wall. Help!

I finally found out why I was unable to import my iDVD file into iMovie. I am a new Mac owner and I had used an illegal punctuation mark in the title of my slide show (China/Japan). I received a useless message - "The file could not be imported: unknown error". Thank you very much. My old PC with Microsoft would have immediately told me to retitle the file and that would have been that. Mac's poor error warning caused me to stop my project for days because they could not even give me a simple reason for the error. My education continues. I love the iLife software but find it to be incredibly difficult because every day I run into unexpected problems. When finished the results are truly beautiful - if you have unlimited time. I am impressed with Apple's help forum.

  • Can I save (or import) an iDVD file into iMovie?

I have created a video using iMovie for the actual video portion and iDVD for the dynamic menu. As of yet I can only watch the whole video as an iDVD file. Is there a way to import the iDVD project back into iMovie for us on the web?

If you still have your iMovie Event and your iMovie Project, you can use the iMovie SHARE menu. You can share to YouTube, Share to iTunes, Share to a Movie on your Desktop, etc.

  • I want to shoot a movie on my iPhone and edit it on my iPad using the iMovie app. How can this be done via iTunes on my computer?

I want to shoot a movie on my iPhone and edit it on my iPad using the iMovie app. How can this be done via iTunes on my computer?

You can't drag video into the filesharing pane of iTunes, you can only transfer projects.
Videos need to come in via the photos tab of iTunes.
The easiest way to get videos from the iPhone to the iPad is via the project export import.
Projects can be exported from the iPhone, then imported to the iPad like this:
iPhone Send a project or trailer to iTunes
If the marquee screen isn’t showing, tap the My Projects button .
Scroll to center the project or trailer you want to share.
Tap the Share button at the bottom of the screen, and then tap iTunes; tap OK when iMovie indicates that export is complete.
Connect your device to your computer, and then open iTunes on your computer. After a moment, your device appears in iTunes, below Devices on the left.
Select the device, and then click Apps at the top of the iTunes window.
Select iMovie in the Apps list below File Sharing. (You may need to scroll to see it.)
In the iMovie Documents pane, select the file you just shared, and then click the “Save to” button; save the file to your computer in a place where you can find it easily. You can also save the file by dragging it to the desired location on your computer.
Disconnect the device from your computer.
iPad Import a project or trailer from iTunes
Connect your device to your computer, and open iTunes on your computer. After a moment, your device appears in iTunes, below Devices on the left.
Select the device, and click Apps at the top of the iTunes window.
Select iMovie in the Apps list below File Sharing. (You may need to scroll to see it.)
Click Add below the iMovie Documents pane; in the window that appears, navigate to the file you want to add.
Select the file, and then click Open to copy the file to your device. The file appears in the iMovie Documents pane when copying is complete.
Open iMovie on your device; if the marquee screen isn’t showing, tap the My Projects button in the upper-left corner above the viewer.
Tap the Import button at the bottom of the screen, and then tap the name of the project you want to import. When the import is complete, the project opens and can be edited like any other project.

  • How can I convert MPEG files (stored on a PC) to use in iMovie on my Macbook Pro?

How can I convert MPEG files (stored on a PC) to use in iMovie on my Macbook Pro?

Get a free app called MPEG Streamclip.
    Available here.
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
Drag your clip or clips into MPEG Streamclip. Then use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME to export the clips in Apple Intermediate Codec.
Sometimes, MPEG2 clips also require that you install the Apple QuickTime MPEG2 Playback Component. MPEG Streamclip will tell you if you need this. This is available from Apple for $20.
