Making an interactive book

I was wondering if in edge animate can be maked inteactive books... Im using tumult hype right now.. but in edge animate i think that can be maked more complex animations.. can I do a hole book in edge animate?

Actually, many of our users have made entire ebooks using Edge Animate, and Animate is currently being used for digital publications using the InDesign publish workflow. So the answer is: "yes, it's possible."

How do I sort the photos in the photo pane when making a photo book?

There's a certain order that I'd like to see the photos I want to use when making a photo book. But the order that I have it in (which is done manually and not by date) in the album does not appear in the same order when I want to turn some of those photos into a photo book. For some reason the photos that appear on the right side of the screen, "photo pane" show the photos in a different order. Is there some kind of setting that I'm missing?

No - they are in date order - the only solution I've seen is to ues teh batch change command time & Date command on the photos in the album to put them in date order to match the album -- or just drag them to the book pages in the order you want them

Try to boot into Safe Mode and order this way, or sign into a different user account and try to order as a different user.

it has been a while since we have last spoke, I would like to let you know, I am still working on getting used to the switch from windows to a Mac/Apple system. I do have a new question for you, I did purchase In Design CS5.5 through journeyed.com through Cuyahoga Community College of which I attend as a student, is there a way to purchase an online book through iTunes to learn that as well? Also, you know me, the struggling student, I would also, when and if the book can be purchased through the iTunes, would need to know if you do know of a much easier book for struggling students like myself and at a reasonable price as well for the In Design CS5.5 program. Our campus bookstore had closed early, and, so did the colleges library and our local library here where I do live, so, I cannot go to either place to purchase a book or to take out a book, plus cash funds are low at this moment as well but, I do have money left on the iTunes account to use, if it can be used. So, can it be used, the iTunes money, towards finding a low priced online book? I am in great need of assistance as I have a project due for my one course for this Tuesday, September 4, 2012.

Use the Optimize PDF command in Acrobat, it gives you more control. I think it's under the Advanced menu in Acrobat 9 Pro and File > Save As > Optimized PDF in Acrobat X Pro.
You might try playing around with different settings. You can also click the Audit Space button at the upper right to see if its from images or other things causing the file size problem.
Unfortunately, InDesign doesn't write interactivity in a very optimized way. You get better results with buttons, for example, creating them in Acrobat Pro and using the Duplicate command to duplicate them across multiple pages.

Hello, I am making a photographic book with the iBooks author and I have a problem that I cannot resolve. The book is only with photos, without text and I am putting every photo on a whole page. I made around 15 pages in landscape orientation and now I want to make the same thing with the same photos in portrait, but I don't know how to arrange the photos to match when the ipad is flipped. The whole idea is that I want people to see different crops of the photos when they flip the iPad. I hope that you understood me and will eventually come up with solution... Really thanks!

If you are looking to reshape the graph based on whether the user has selected portrait or landscape mode, you could use a property node for your graph that executes in the same case as the print orientation, in which you reshape the graph using plotareasize or another property. I've attached an example of this.

There are numerous posts on the forum with the same issue. It seems it is an issue at Apple's end, but I have not seen any Info from Apple.

I don't know what the quark plugin does, I'm guessing that it is reading from an external file that contains the price information. An ordinary method of dealing with updatable information in Flash is to use an external file, usually in .xml format. You can update the xml file or have your database do it for you, and then every time a user hits your site, the data is read from the .xml file. Each user will get the latest prices.

Created An Interactive Book In AID CS 5.5 Having Trouble With AID CS 6.

Originally I created a number of interactive books in AID CS5.5 and exported them to SWF. Of course all the original images were developed in illustrator and for the interactive books exported in SWF. Now I am using AID CS6 and I opened both the printed and interactive versions in AID CS6 and saved them in AID CS6.
At one stage I kept both AID CS5 and CS6 on my computer and could open the printed and interactive versions without any problem in CS6.
However I decided to remove AID CS5.5 from my computer and while the saved AID CS6 printed versions had no problems, the interactive versions wanted me to relink all the images in the document with their SWF images in the source file; there are hundreds of images.
I still have the AID CS5.5 software and when I reloaded it and opened the AID interactive documents, the problem was resolved and I wasn't asked to relink the images.
However is there any way I can resolve this issue without keeping AID CS5.5 on my computer or relinking all of of the images?

I've done that and am working on the new AID CS6 idml with AID CS5 installed on my machine. However I feel it in my bones that when when I delete the AID CS5 software, the problem will arise again because when opening the interactive documents without directing my computer to 'open with CS6', the computer always choose AID CS5 to open the documents.
'we get enough reports of strange behavior trying to update legacy.'
Could you explain and expand on this because I'm thinking of updating to Creative Cloud and if I have to go through this again, I think I'll stick with CS6.

Which iPad is better for interactive books?

Hello, just wanted to ask which is better for reading INTERACTIVE books, the iPad 4th gen. or ipad mini as i am willing to buy iPad mini but im worried if the 7.9" screen will not be comfortable for reading these interactive books especially the font cannot be changed like other ordinary books.

I have been experimenting and trying to create an interactive book to play on the iPad, using the packager. So far I have been unable to get the pages to move by clicking or swiping them. I have successfully gotten the pages onto the iPad via the packager but not the interactivity. Any help or an example of code would be appreciated.

Regarding the JPG vs PNG: I have read that Adobe recommends JPGs over PNG, but if you must use PNGs be sure you have eliminated transparency (if possible). Be sure that your images are "right sized" --not physically larger than the size you are showing them. You can also try caching the bitmap images in AS3 on the first frame.

I am looking at making a 'Picture Book' in iPhoto '11.
1) Am I able to use more than 1 theme per book?
2) If not, am I able to change the background colour/layout to my own choice?

Yes - so long as the program uses Apple standard printing - just do a print to PDF using the send PDF to iPhoto option
