Making canvas shape same as image?!?!

i am very new to photoshop and have to teach myself how to do whatever i'm doing as i do it........
I've got an image i've made which is a rectangle (in portrait layout), with rounded corneres, in the psd file i've erased the corners of the image outside of the actual images rounded corners so i just have a transparrent background visible as the corners of the canvas, which ever way i the save this image and go to use it i still have the visible corners of the rectangular canvas showing.....
how do i get the whole thing to be just my rounded cornered image with no canvas corners ruining it?
many thnaks
Jason

Ok, wait...I don't think you are understanding things correctly.
Please reread the first post:
There's no way you can make a photoshop canvas side rounded, what you can do is just ctrl+click the layer thumbnail of the image that you did you will notice in the canvas area the image will have a selection, after that go to image menu >> crop. It will crop your canvas exactly the same as your image. Hope it helps.
The overall file will be rectangle. But the portion where the white is showing can be made transparent (as all the above posts are guiding you to do). Once the corners are transparent and the image is placed into the program, website, etc that you are using it will then appear to be a rounded corner rectangle because you will be seeing through the white portion around the corners.
Take a look at this image:
This is a rounded corner .gif image. I placed this image into an Indesign file which had a pink background. Notice the blue rectangle around the black shape. That rectangle represents the actual canvas size of the document which I created the rounded corner rectangle image in photoshop. So all that space between the black image and the blue outline has been made transparent and you are seeing through it, however the original .gif image is actually the size and shape of that blue line (border).

  • Making the icon shape match the image

So I have an image I want to use as an icon for a folder.  I basically want the icon to appear just as the shape of the image, with the background coming through the surrounding, i.e. the W in the Word icon. Currently when I paste the image to the folder as an icon image, it is surrounded by a white box (the background).
I've through several searches, have made the background transparent in Photoshop, exported as a png, have reopened in Preview and have had no background showing.  Unfortunately when I attach it to the folder it is still bound with a white box when displayed as the icon, SL puts the white background back in.
Any help, or links to examples I can use to fix this?

    Mac OS X (10.6.4)
Use Software Update or the OS 10.6.8 combo update to update your OS.  Also, update everything SU has to offer for your computer.  When done, repair permissions and restart your computer.
    After doing the above:
    Highlight the icon........
    Hold down the Option Key......
    Go to File>Get Info......
In the existing window, click the existing icon, and then choose Edit>Copy
Next, click the icon to which you want to transfer the copied icon.  Its icon now appears in the Info dialog box that’s still open on the screen.
Click the icon in the dialog box, and this time choose Edit>Paste.  Viola!!!!!  You now have a new icon.
Or you can download this easy to use simple shareware program called CandyBar.  This easy to use piece of software is also less time consuming.  And is now FREE!!!!!!

  • How can I disable making live shape rectangle in the first place but normal one instead in Illustrator CC?

How can I disable making live shape rectangle in the first place but normal one instead in Illustrator CC? When I create rectangle I can't transform it by dragging and it's only the problem with rectangle, not with circle, star etc. I try show/hide edges/bounding box reset preferences and reinstall whole illustrator CC and it's the same. I can only make this right by expand this rectangle, which is shape as is turn out to rectangle by clicking object>shape>expand rectangle. But this is so frustrating. Help!:) oh, and I use OSX. My friend has the same specs and it's works. I mean she can use live shape corner transformations and changing size by draging:(

I’ve created my own plugin (available for free for personal and commercial use) which imitates behavior of the ‘old’ Rectangle Tool. It doesn’t replace the Live Rectangle – it works completely independent!
My Plain Rectangle Tool correctly snaps to grids/objects/points and correctly aligns to grid/points on resize. Of course it supports the SHIFT and ALT/OPTION keys, Snap to Grid and Smart Guides options. In other words it works almost 100% the same as the Rectangle Tool we know from CC (17.1), CS6 and earlier.
The installation package (zxp) adds ‘Plain Rectangle Tool’ icon into the Ai panel (of curse you can assign your custom keyboard shortcut to it as well)
Note: The Plain Rectangle can be easily converted into the Live one using Object > Shape > Convert to Rectangle
Grab your copy at http://63mutants.com/subc/products/PlainRectangleTool_m01/PlainRectangleTool_m01.php Feel free to share with your friends. It’s completely free.
I’ve also created a separate discussion https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1587587 for the Plain Rectangle Tool. If you have any comments or request please post it there. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

  • HOW do you display multiple componants with the same id e.g. same generated image

    Hi,
I would like to display two of these with the same id (canvas) which is an image generated through AS
        <canvas:DrawingCanvas id="canvas" >
            </canvas:DrawingCanvas>
This is an annotation program im working on, and i would 2 of the same view of image, the reason being that the user can view a large and small scale version of the image he/she is working with
    I--------------------I    i----i   - small version
    I                        I    i----i
    I large version   I
    I                        I
    I____________I
    thanks
    art

You don't need the object to have the same id to achieve your desired results, and you can't have the same object with the same id anyway.
Just ensure whatever the user does is carried out on the larger and smaller image.

  • How to create a shape based on the shape of an image

I want to erase a portion of a mask based on the shape of an image. how can i do this? btw how to create a circle? thx

Both your questions leave room for imagining what you might really mean, but here's a shot at answering them.
If you have a mask that you want to erase portions of based on an image... assuming the mask is a simple rectangle you drew with the rectangle tool, change the opacity of the rectangle's fill in the color panel to make it see-thru, place the mask over the image, and using the eraser tool, erase the portions of the mask that you do not intend to retain using the image below it as a guide.
As for drawing a circle, hover over the rectangle tool and a menu should appear.  Select the oval/ellipse tool.  To draw a circle, hold down the shift key and draw just as you did for the rectangle.  The shift key forces it to retain equal width and height.

  • How to draw 2D shapes on the image generated by JMF MediaPlayer?

    Hello all:
IS there any way that we can draw 2D shapes on the image generated by JMF
    MediaPlayer?
I am currently working on a project which should draw 2D shapes(rectangle, circle etc) to
mark the interesting part of image generated by JMF MediaPlayer.
The software is supposed to work as follows:
1> first use will open a mpg file and use JMF MediaPlayer to play this video
2> if the user finds some interesting image on the video, he will pause the video
and draw a circle to mark the interesting part on that image.
I know how to draw a 2D shapes on JPanel, however, I have no idea how I can
draw them on the Mediaplayer Screen.
What technique I should learn to implement this software?
    any comments are welcome.

  • Aperture 3 processes same 519 images on startup

Every time I open Aperture 3.2.2 it says "processing" and I open the activity window and see that it is processing 519 images.  It gets through all 519 and then the processing stops...but after I quit Aperture, the next time I open it it goes back to processing those same 519 images.  It moves through them relatively quickly (about 5-7 minutes tops) but I can see that it's going through the same files again and again.
I think this might be related to an issue I'm having with Apple TV 2 seeing the latest edits I've done to photos.
I have it set to share previews with iLife / iWork.  I also have my projects set to "Maintain Previews For All Projects"
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

Well I'm lucky in that the processing of the 519 images doesn't prevent usage of Aperture.  It completes the processing of the 519 images every time.  I've looked at some of the images that it's re-processing....should I update previews / regenerate previews of them?  Or what exactly does processing entail?
    Thanks.

  • I keep getting the same preview image for multiple photos

In my iPhoto Library and some of my folders the same preview image is showing for many of my images. When I enlarge or export those images or folders the correct image shows. Any ideas what is messing with the preview?
    Thanks.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

  • All tracks have the same preview image after import

    Hi,
when importing some videos (h.264) into iMovie'08, all have the same preview image. I would expect them to hava an image from the clip.
    How to fix this?
    Arne

The files are on disk in my pictures folder. I took them with my Sony camera as mpeg2 and converted them with MPEG Streamclip to mpeg4 (h.264).
Just updated to iMovie 7.1, but did not change anything.
The icons are all of the 1st clip. Moving the mouse over them always show the 1st clip and the audio of the first clip in the thumbnail, but in the preview I see the correct clip.

  • Multiple Instance of Same Background Image

    Hello.
Everytime I make a new page, iweb obviously makes a new folder with the supporting documents of that page.
The problem with this is that images, such as background, are reloaded for every. single. page, over and over again. The browser views the same background images as different ones because well, they are.
The site I am referring to is http://audiologic.us Every time you go to a new page, it takes forever to load because none of the images are stored in the browser cache since they are all duplicates, in different folders.
Does anyone know how to force iweb, or an easy way outside of iweb to cross-reference the same background image on multiple pages so it is stored in the browser cache?
    Thanks a bunch
    ~ Ben

    Check this thread.
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=4477351&#4477351
The trick is to use images that don't need to be re-rendered before they're posted. So if there's any opacity, size, orientation changes that need to be made, do them outside of iWeb then drop them in. iWeb should then place these items in it's Images directory and all pages will reference those from that location.
I used this on one of my pages
    http://web.mac.com/makentosh/iWeb/tipsfromtheiceberg/visual_archive.html
so that each indicator loads only once, but shows on the page several times.

Wrong forum; we don't do Elements here.
    You want:  Photoshop Elements

  • Canvas size relative to Image size

I'm using Photoshop Elements 5.0. Windows XP. First post to this forum.
I'm trying to add a frame in artwork. When I add the frame, is the image resizing or the canvas resizing? In former post: http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3c05a367 they suggest to crop the image. However, when I do that, I'm resizing my image. How do I add a border without losing resolution or making my image smaller?

    Glenda,
Glad that it helps with your project.
There are 2 concepts involved, as I see it.
    1. One can established a permanent resolution via Image>resize>image size.
Let us assume that you open a picture file from your camera with
    width=31.778 inches
    height=23.7787 inches
resolution=72/px/in. Note that this metric is in inches, not pixels, for this drill.
now change resolution to 325px/in. Then
    height=7.04 inches
    width=5.268 inches
The absolute values may be different for your files, but the principle is the same: as the pixels count goes up, the picture size, in inches, goes down - inverse relation. Try it out in your program.
    2. The frames take up real estate, if you will. If you buy a frame for a picture, the outside dimensions of the framed picture will be larger that the paper picture inside. One can make the picture smaller in elements, compensating just enough for the real estate consumed by the frame, but that, to me, would become a nuisance.
Unless there is important information at the edges of the picture (e.g.a sign), it is my experience that application of the frame is not deleterious. Note that in the layers palette there is an f icon in a circle. Double click this to adjust the bevel. Layer>layer styles>scale effects is an option which is quite handy.

  • Creating a new document/canvas (to add multiple images to)

I am totally new to Photoshop Elements (using v.13), with some previous experience in old versions of Photoshop. I am an interior designer and I want to make a design board. Essentially what I am trying to do is create a new, blank document layer and then add images of furniture, rugs, etc. Each element needs to be its own layer so that I can edit each individually. I have no idea how to even begin that on here. New document? Open a blank document? When I go to the layers tab, creating layers is not even an option. Obviously, I need some help. Explain this to me as you would to a child....Thanks!

    jennb21985 wrote:

Open the Editor in Expert tab
Go to File menu>new>blank file. Enter the dimensions, resolution in px/in, and background. This  "canvas" will be the background layer and will show up as such in the layers palette.
Now, as far as adding pictures of furniture, rugs, etc., I suggest that you prepare each one so that they are ready to be placed on the canvas. Do the math: how large can each one be? Are they all in portrait or landscape orientation? If not, what will be the best fit? Is the brightness/contrast of each picture more-or-less uniform so that the design board will look nice.
Crop each picture to specification, and save it to disk.
Once you have done this, do the following:
    Open the blank file
Open Picture A, go to Select menu>all, then Edit menu>Copy to place it on the clipboard,
Go back the blank file, then Edit>Paste. Picture A will be on its own layer. Position it with the move tool, and resize with the corner handles, if needed.
Do the same with pictures B, C, D, etc.
As indicated above, in the dialog for the blank file, you need to enter a value for resolution. Ideally, the resolution should be the same as that of the picture files. You can check via Image menu>resize>image size. If the resolution is 72 px/in, enter this in the field for the blank file.
Feel free to repost if this is not clear.
