Making CD/DVD labels???

Can you make CD/DVD labels with studio pro. And if not, does anyone know what software will do that?

The trouble with labels is that they react to heat in another way than the disc itself. They cause the disc to bend when they get warm in the player; that makes it impossible for the laser to focus. The effect is stronger on the outside of the disc, so the trouble will increase with the amount of data on the disc.
You can easily test this: put a labelled DVD in your player, play it for a few minutes, then take it out and see how the outside has bent up significantly.
This usually doesn´t happen right after you attached the label; sometimes it occurs several days later, sometimes never. It depends on many factors, room humidity is one of them.
We had to learn this the hard way by getting many, many complaints from customers. Now we use printable DVDs, and this problem is history.

  • What software do I use to make cd/dvd labels?

I enjoyed using iDVD to put together a slideshow for an 80th birthday party.  Now I want to share the slideshow on dvd's, but what software should I use to make dvd labels and jewel case covers?

I agree 100% with Klaus1. You don't want to use stick on labels. If you have an Epson R series printer you can print directly to discs with it.
For printing on discs or making case inserts/covers one application that I like is Discus.  Here are some of the designs I've created and used with it:

  • DVD labels

I wondering if anyone knows of some new options for making your DVD look good after you put time into creating a movie on iDVD? I've taken a look at postings on this but I haven't found any recent ones and was hoping there some new choices.
I have a new printer and really don't want to buy a new one just so it's able to print directly on the DVD. Do you know of an inexpensive option that JUST prints onto DVDs? If so, can you recommend DVDs to use?
I've read on other postings here that white sticker lables are not a good idea. Are there any new "label" options that don't cause problems like warping DVDs from the glue and heat?
    All help is greatly appreciated.

You are right. Avoid sticky lables on your finished iDVD. Simply not a good idea. It's not so much that warping is the issue as it is making a DVD that might be slightly off center on an overly sensitive S-Drive (especially portable laptop s-drives).

  • Is there any CD/DVD labeling software on Mac?

Hey, Im making some of my own DVD's and DVD photo slideshows and Im wondering if there is a cd/dvd labeling program somewhere on Mac's. I have Panther.
I know you can buy software when you buy lables at the store but those programs are always so clunky. Does Mac have a nifty program?

Apple does not have their own CD/DVD labeling software. There is Discus(included with Roxio's Toast application). Also if you buy an Epson printer that supports direct CD/DVD printing it will include the necessary CD printing software. I find both a little clunky. But they both do the job.

Hi there Jim, aka @jknud , welcome to the forums
I understand you're looking to print CD/DVD labels to your Officejet 6500 Wireless, from your Mac.
There are normally third party software programs you can download to print out whichever brand of labels you are trying to print on. If you wish to let me know which type of labels you are using, I will see if I can find their support forums for you.

  • Good Software for DVD Labels?

I had to replace my hard drive and therefore lost 3rd party apps I had installed. Now that I have the chance, can someone recommend a good DVD Label software? I used expressit before, and it seemed very basic and quirky. It seems to be the only thing obvious and available in stores like Staples, etc. Any other ideas? Anything I can download for free online?

The reported damage is both from the adhesive melting and the imbalance when the label is not placed correctly. Some people have had DVD disks getting stuck inside players because the adhesive loosened. Others complain of stuttering and playback problems....problems that do not show up if the same project is burned to a DVD disk without a stick-on label.
If anyone has used the stick-ons and is not having problems, all I can say is wait....sometimes the poor playback will not be apparent for some time, and then it starts ruining your disk.
I don't use any stick-ons. I think the very first DVD I made, using the first versions of iMovie and iDVD, did have a stick-on label, and the disks were ok after about 5 years. However, I reburned to Verbatim's archival gold disks, and wrote carefully on the disk with a CD/DVD marker. (I don't have a printer that can print to disks).

  • Making a DVD from Keynote

This should be a simple process, but I can't find out how to do it. (I get it to work after hours of trial and error, usually, but this time I'm stuck)
I make a Keynote show - beautiful photos, text, etc - but without the music since I've been told the best way to add the sound is to make a movie first and THEN use that to make the DVD.
I exported the Keynote presentation to Quicktime (iMovie wouldn't take the actual Keytime presentation), and then moved that to iMovie. But it won't let me move the clip below to actually make a movie and add sound.
And I tried moving the Quicktime presentation (of course no sound in this version, but the original has sound) directly to iDVD. It appears on the Media/Movie page but I can't figure where to go from there. Nothing happens.
Sigh. Any help would be appreciate.

This actually is an addendum to my own email since somehow half the message got dropped. Sorry.
Basically I've created a Keynote presentation (lovely photos, text, etc) with the intent of making a DVD to share with my mother who is bedridden.
(In the "olden days" I would just make a slide show in iPhoto, add sound, and burn. But I love whaat Keynote can do, it's just figuring out how to get THAT presentation to a DVD I can play in a regular DVD player.
I didn't include sound on the version I exported to Quicktime since I was told that the best way to make the DVD was to make a Movie first so I could better adjust the sound. So I exported the soundless one to Quicktime and then moved that to iMovie, but couldn't get it to let me move the clip below.
I also tried moving the Quicktime version directly to iDVD. It is there on the Media/Movie page, but I can't get anything to happen after that. (I could easily use the version of my Keynote presentation with sound, if it would let me,, but I understand there is a problem with that too....)
Again, any suggestions would be helpful.

  • How to design a dvd label in illustrator and export as interactive

    hello!
I need to design a dvd label for a client and they want to be able to make edits to it after I design it.  Is there a way I can design it in illustrator.. save as an interactive pdf and then they can edit it with acrobat? I know with acrobat you can make edits to type but can you make edits to colors, photos, etc? And if you can't does anyone know of another application that they would be able to use without having adobe? let me know thanks!

You can't replace content in Acrobat. You only can use the touchup tools to adjust text and make minor corrections on images like cropping or assigning a different color profile. and of course you can use form elements to provide dynamic text. If you need to provide more than that, you better look into otehr solutions which could be as trivail as the software they use to actualyl print the DVD labels (canon Easy Label Print and similar) or a generic, free tool like Open Office Draw, Inkscape or Scribus...

  • Is there a printable DVD label that will not cause my Super Drive to crash?

CD Stomper and Avery paper labels cause the Super Drive to: reject the CD/DVD disk; report that the disk is damaged/unreadable; or just grind to a halt. Replaced the iMac internal Super Drive - still has same problem. Disks were prepared using the Super Drive and play without problems until I put a label on and try to play it in the same Super Drive. Labeled disks work fine in LG and Panasonic DVD players connected to TVs.

Many thanks. Used an external LG super multi drive burner to put labels on DVDs using Lightscribe, but the contrast and label limitations (black-gray) are less than ideal. Noticed that Avery sells CD/DVD label packages with paper labels for about 40 CDs and 2 "film" labels for DVDs. Web site doesn't appear to have packages of just DVD "film" labels. Has anyone had success with "film" labels for DVDs?

  • Under My Image Garden, laptop recognizes the printer can do dvd labels but the desktop does not.

Why won't My Image Garden recognize that I can do DVD labels? All it will let me do is make calendars. Under the new menu, all the other choices are turned off. My old canon printer had no trouble. The new one is an MG5430 (in the US MG5420 or 22). Thank you.

Actually, my husband was able to find the drive so the problem is solved!

Is there an app nternal to the wireless officejet that helps print DVD labels?

Try File>Export>Using QuickTime Conversion. An export window appears.
In Format: select the Still Image option.
You can select Options.. if you wish to change the file type from the default PNG.
You can control the destination folder as required. Use the centre part of the export window to navigate to the selected folder.

  • Making a DVD without menus

    Hi all,
I'm a newbie to DVD Studio Pro. I'm wondering if there is a way to make the equivalent of an Autostart movie in iDVD. No menu, no buttons – just put the DVD in the player and it starts.
    Thanks for any advice,
    Andrew

    Thanks for that David,
I was trying what you suggest but in the process have hit another problem that is preventing me from making the DVD at all. The audio is not linked with the video. I have a 2-minute movie that I made in Final Cut Pro. The movie plays fine in FCP. To export from FCP, I made a Reference movie via:
File > Export > QuickTime Movie...
    Settings: Current Settings
    Include: Audio & Video
Markers: None (there aren't any in my movie)
In DVD Studio Pro, I clicked on the Import button and selected the .mov file.
Two items appear in the Name column: 2min.mov (Video) and 2min.mov (Audio)
I just don't get it. I've watched Larry Jordan's tutorial video on Lynda.com and am following the instructions to the letter. Do you know where I'm going wrong?
    Thanks in advance,
    Andrew
