Making click track for drums, help needed!

Hello, newbie here. I don't have that much experience with Logic and am using Logic 8. Our band is making a backing track with midi bass panned one way and metronome click the other for our drummer. My keyboardist managed to programme the metronome to change because we have lots of time signature changes mid song. We've got all that working fine but our drummer is struggling to hear the click tone. I could make an audio track with a cowbell sound but it would take ages and we've got the metronome doing what we want it to. So...would ideally like the metronome click to be changed to a cowbell. I've managed to change it from Klopfgeist to garage band drum kit but it only does a tinkly bell sound and then a whistle. There doesn't seem to be an interface for it where I can change to a different drum percussion sound. I've got Battery 3 and libraries. I've tried loading this in the box below I/O but i then lose the metronome click altogether on playback. Any ideas? I've attached a couple of screenshots...

you could also just not use the metronome at all. My default is an instrument track with hihats. If you load an intrument (like maybe ultra beat, or an EXS drumkit) then use the pencil tool to creat a region on a MIDI track, you could double-click the region and draw the notes on whatever beats, with whatever instruments. If you want to preview sounds, just hit your keyboard controller until you find what you like. The transport will show what note it is. Or the little keyboard on the left side in the editor. Edit the MIDI region to taste.
Or... if you're not comfortable with the editing, just load an instrument, find the sounds you like, then record a couple of bars of how you want your click, then quantize to the smallest note value you have in your click. (usually 8th, sometimes 16th depending on the complexity of the click you've created.)

Video with stereo track and click track for live performance

Hello,
I have a video that was created in FCP sync'd with a stereo sound track and a click track. I need to play this video live (using projection) with the stereo track routed to the main outs and the click routed to the in-ear monitors for a performer to sync with. I have not done this before and am trying to wrap my brain around it. I'm also hoping to come up with the easiest and most reliable solution. As I understand it, this video will not be able to play back from a burned DVD, but rather will need to play back in Logic with 2 audio tracks (L/R) for the sound track and then 1 track for the click. These 3 tracks can then be routed to their required destinations from a soundcard or mixer.
Does this seem to be the best and most reliable method? I've only burned audio to video (never using a click) in FCP before and have always played back from a DVD. Now I have this live player/syncing component and am not sure of the best way to do it. I have some experience with Logic, but limited.
I really appreciate any suggestions/tips any one might have.

I've opened the movie (with stereo track) in QT Pro and then added the click - and now the 2 audio files are there, sync'd up.
When you say you opened the movie in QT Pro, I assume you mean the QT Pro version of Quicktime Player 7. So let's say you have the movie open in Quicktime Player 7, and you press ⌘J (Window > Show Movie Properties). And in the window that appears, hopefully you see several items listed, including Sound Track 1 and Sound Track 2. These are your two audio files, that are now part of the movie file. One of those files is your stereo soundtrack, and the other is your click. So let's assume that this is a total of 3 channels of sound (because I understand your click is mono).
Select Sound Track 1, and select the tab Audio Settings. Let's assume this is the stereo soundtrack. In the scrolling area at the bottom right of the window, under the heading Assignment, you should see Left and Right. Let's leave it that way.
Now select Sound Track 2. Under Assignment, there should be just one item listed (that is, there is only one channel in this Sound Track, if the click is mono). Under Assignment, it probably says Mono. Change that to Center.
Save the movie. We're done with Quicktime Player for now. Launch Audio MIDI Setup. It's here:

I assume you have an audio interface connected that supports at least 3 channels. In AMS, find the window (or tab, depending on your OS version) for Audio Devices. Select your audio interface. Select the Output tab, and press the button Configure Speakers. In the window that appears, select Multichannel, and change the menu selection from Stereo to 5.1 Surround.
You will probably see that "left front," "right front," and "center" are assigned to outputs 1, 2 and 3, respectively, of your audio interface. If not, make it so, and press the button Apply.
Now when you play your movie, the stereo soundtrack will appear at outputs 1 and 2 of your audio interface, and the click will appear at output 3. Now you can cable your stereo mains to 1/2 and your in-ear monitors to 3.

Applescript for QuickTime help needed.

I have some mkv files that I would like to re-encapsulate as mov files.
Through the GUI I would normally open the mkv in quicktime, then Save or Save As with self-contained option selected, and just hit enter. This would save the re-encapsulate the movie with no re-encoding to the same directory with the same filename, but now with the .mov extension. This works with no issues.
Now, I want to be able to automate this process, but the only thing I can't figure out is how to tell the movie to *save self contained* with the *+same name in the same directory+*.

Want to use Logic 8 Pro for Podcasting, help needed

I have a few problems. I just switched over to Logic after using ProTools for 4 years so I'm a newbie. I'm about to start a podcast soon and I want to use Logic 8 Pro to do so. Is there a book that someone can recommend me for getting familiar with Logic?
Here are the things I need to get done:
I have a mixer and I need to know how to record the sounds playing through my computer to end up in Logic. I basically want to be able to capture the audio playing on my computer and have that be on the podcast. How do I do this?
Secondly, I'm confused about what Input 1 and Input 2 are. What is the difference?

I'm not sure what you are asking here. If you want to record the whole output of your computer, I recommend using a virtual audio driver like Soundflower or Jack.

Input 1 is the input marked "1" on your audio interface (or the left channel on a stereo pair).
Input 2 is the input marked "2".
If your audio interface has more than 2 inputs, they will all show up, so you can record different inputs to different tracks if required.
You might be better off using Garageband to record your podcasts, it's simpler and has dedicated podcast functions (like adding iTunes artwork and so on).

CS4- Adding a modified audio track to video - help needed ASAP

I have an exhibition coming up in a couple of days and I interviewed some people for that, but they all wanted their voices changed.
Now, I imported the avi. file and put it on the timeline. (30 fps [640x480 (1,0)], 11024 Hz - 8-bit Twos-com)
I extracted an audio file in wav, then changed the pitch in audacity and then imported the new audio clip to CS4. But I cannot group or export them in any way. What is going on? What am I doing wrong? I need the video work with modified voices but I can't get it to work. I am losing my mind and running out of time. I would really appreciate any help!
PS: I am a total Premiere noob. So please be patient with me.

Not sure that I am following you here. Do you mean that Audacity is not allowing you to Save_As?
Now, if you wish to have all of your Audio Tracks into one WAV file, just do an Export, choosing Export Audio only, by unchecking Export Video. Check that Multiplexing is set to None, where it should default with Audio-only.
Open that file in Audacity, edit as needed, then Save_As, and Import that edited Audio file. Drag it to the Timeline in a clear, Targeted Audio Track of the proper channel-count, and then you can Mute the existing Audio Track(s) in the Audio Mixer, or just turn each Track OFF in the Track Header.
If you mean something else, help me understand what you need to do.

Flash and publishing for iOS (Help Needed)

I currently own Adobe Create Suite 3 Design Premium. I just recently heard that CS 5.5 can develop iOS Apps. So I downloaded trial 2 days ago and thought I would see if I could develop some apps and if things go well upgrade.
Here is the issue I'm running into. I created the CSR file with openssl since I don't own a mac, only a windows 7 based pc. Apples developers program accepted my CSR and created the provisioning file for it.
However, when I go to publish the for iOS it asks for a .p12 file. I found online that is my CSR file. However, it asks for a password. I have no password for it. It does not allow leaving the password field blank, and anything I put in it is incorrect.
All I need help with is the .p12 file and getting past the password and I will be good to go.
Anyone know a step by step guide or could walk me though this part. Thank you and I greatly appreciate it.

AIM: to build an ass kicking video editing & music production PC
Just wanted to say thanks to the peeps who contribute to this forum. Although I have only just registered I have been coming here for the past month and have put together all the missing pieces of my first ever PC Build project. My previous experience was to upgrade the odd part. This forum has enabled me to make the equipment choices, tackle the engineering & build (including fitting the CPU fan which was my worst worry), update the bios & load the drivers & software in the correct order. 99% of the items have been sourced from eBay to save money and so far no DOA's.
Still got some way to go, so any suggestions regarding my future upgrades would be welcome…..
The Winfast graphics card is possibly the weakest link (borrowed from my outgoing PC) and I am looking for an ATI x800xt PE vivo.

Hi. Happy you have found the forum helpful.
I would buy a good PSU first. Otherwise you risk damaging your new equiment. Recommended makes are Enermax, Tagan, Hiper and OCZ with amps on the 12 rail at least in the mid twenties, but preferably around 30.
For video cards, I have preferred nvidia-based cards in recent years because of their better driver support. The 6800GT is a good choice. The ultra version, IMHO, is not worth the added cost since you can ususally OC the GT ot ultra speeds.
Raptors in RAID offer the best performace but suffer a big price premium over 7200 SATA drives.
I would leave the Audio issue for last. You just might like the on-board audio.
Deciding whether to chage the case might be the very first thing to decide since it would be awfully inconvenient to install everything and then have to resinstall because of a case change. I wish there was a way to get a totally silent case/fan combo, but I don't. Maybe someone else will help you on this.

Waiting For Activation, help needed.

Hi, I have bought a iPhone 3G 8GB from ebay. I have checked the IMEI number on "checkmend" and there are no reported problems. It is apparently on o2 but I want to unlock it for use on Vodafone. I have bought a o2 pay as you go sim card so that I can get it unlocked properly but when I insert it I get the message "Waiting for activation, this may take a while" but it never goes until I press "dismiss" then it just says "No Service".
Under the carrier menu the only provider listed is Orange but under the "phone" menu in settings the last box does say o2!
Can anyone help? I've tried googling, restoring the iphone, uninstalling and re-installing itunes. Does anyone know what the problem could be or better still anyone know of a solution?

No way to tell really - I am always suspicious about 'the worlds largest,best, greatest ' etc checkers of anything. The four/five UK carriers all operate an IMEI block agreement between them and somehow I doubt that they would give up that information to a small company operating out of a Coach House in Gloucester

Ripping DVD's ready for iPod - Help Needed!!

I have been using Handbrake to rip my DVD's and for some reason it has stopped working now..
It goes through the process of encoding the files, all the settings are correct and I have noted the saved directory (even changed it a couple of times), and when it completes 100% there is no file to be found anywhere......
I have posted a note on the handbrake forum but got no reply yet.
Does anybody know what the problem may be?
Also, does anybody know of an application that will rip DVD's so that they are iPod ready, or maybe into MPG/MPEG/AVi format.

How long do you wait? Once conversion has completed, the YourFileName.temp file must be rewritten to your desitination location. This can take some seconds, depending on the size of your movie. While we're at it, is the temporary file even being created when conversion begins?

Ripping/extraction of DVDs can be done by a number of Mac compatible appliations. MacTheRipper (free) is probably one the most popular at the moment. Stripping and/or conversion, however, still requires an ancillary application like MPEG2 Works 4 Advanced ($$) or MPEG StreamClip (free). However, since your were less than specific as to type (stream file, elementary streams, VCD compatible, SVCD compatible, DVD compatible, etc.) of target file desired, I can only generalize. Conversion basically depends on the workflow you utilize. Both applications have some "intrinsic" capabilities but, for the most part, rely on QT, QT Tools, and/or QT components you have installed and available. In addition, both application allow output to what is basically the QT Pro "Movie to QuickTime" export option. This simply means that in addition to the specific formats you mentioned, you also have full access to all of the same target QT formats you could normally access directly from your QT Pro application. (I.e., you can go directly from a VOB file or file segment to any available QT compatible compression format based on QT Pro and installed QT Pro components.)
REMINDER: These alternative compression formats are not iPod compatible.
ADDED: Forty-TwoDVD-VXPlus ($$) will convert ripped/extracted DVD directly to iPod compatible formats.

Where are the videos from? are they from a creditable source or from an illegal downloading site such as limewire. most of those videos are not in the correct video format to begin with so apple itunes will not recognize them and convert them. The best way to convert video is to rip your own dvds or home movies and put them on your computer then ipod. There is at least one way on each operating system (windows and mac) to rip your own dvds and then transfer them to itunes and finally put them on your ipod. A mac is the easiest of the two ways. If you have a mac, then you download a program off of the web called handbrake. Simply "google" >handbrake rip dvds< and its homepage should pop up or try <a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://handbrake.m0k.org). Handbrake allows you to copy and convert your dvds to ipod format. On a windows operating system the most effective way I have found to rip my dvds is quicktime pro($25-$35). You can buy it at quicktime's website. It basically does the same thing as handbrake. I, myself, have simply converted some videos, like sports shows and commercials, to ipod format using itunes and both the video and audio worked fine.

There are known shortcomings with the ATML DataPlugins when it comes to array data and looping. It is intended to be sufficient for scalar results and setup conditions. Would you please be more specific about the observed shortcomings?
