Making copies of my business card in AI CS5

I'm new to Illustrator and would like to know how to make copies of my business card in AI so that they will fit on card stock.

nevitt,
When you have one original card in the right place (upper left or similar), you may:
1) Effect>Distort & Transform>Transform>Move horizontally by the right amount to fit with the right number of copies (one less than number of columns),
2) Effect>Distort & Transform>Transform>Move vertically by the right amount to fit with the right number of copies (one less than number of rows).
With this, any change to the original will apply to all.

Using the business card template, I have created one perfect card with text, photo etc. How do I duplicate this card to fill out the rest of the template?

    Hi chemise,
Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Pages '09 forum.
    Here's an alternate method:
Select all placeholder items in the other 7 cards on the page.
Press delete to remove them, leaving only your one perfect card.
Select all of the items making up your card, using the method in ibookmaster's post.
Press command-D to duplicate all items.
Press shift-command-up arrow once to vertically align the copy with the original.
Press shift-command-right arrow repeatedly to quickly move the copy into the card space at the top of the right column.
Press command-right arrow (and/or command-left arrow) to nudge the copy into its final position.
Select the copy and the original.
Repeat the steps above using shift-command-left arrow once, then shift-command-down arrow and command-down arrow to move the two new copies into the second row.
    Select all four copies.
Repeat the steps above to align these horizontally, then move them into rows three and four.
    Save. Print.

  • I am trying to save a sheet of business cards to pdf format in order to print them off.

I have done it in the past, but now, when I export the file, it shows one card per sheet of paper instead of 10 per shet to fit the stock for business cards.
I'm sure it is an easy fix, but it eludes me.
    Thanks,
    Pat

Group the elements and then apply 2 transform effects to generate the copies.

  • Creating business cards in Photoshop CS4

I have a design, but I can't figure out how to print it. Help please.

Resize your design to the correct size for a standard business card.
Make a new file the size of a standard sheet (A4 or Letter)
Make guides on the sheet and drag copies of your resized design on to the sheet.
Print the file on suitable stock and cut out the cards.
(In fact this is better done in a layout program or even Word!)

  • Creating Business Cards in PSE 5.0

I have been making some Business Cards in PSE for about the past couple of months. It has been quite a learning process along the way. I am by no means an expert at this. Either with PSE and in making business cards.
Basically I am making the core of my card or many times all of it within PSE, and then going to Publisher and inserting my PSE created file, formatted as a TIFF normally, right into a Blank Publisher Business Card template.
My question is regarding the original resolution of my card in PSE. Because when you use any Type within PSE, it's size is tied to the resolution of your image. I have been creating my images as 300 ppi. But when I add the text for the card on there, it's always too small. And if I try and enlarge the text size to make it look normal, then it seems I can't get things to fit within the safe printing zone. I can't seem to get a middle ground here.
Should I not create my basic image with a resolution of 300 ppi? Should I go lower so that the Text (type) will be more in line with a 72 ppi image? I am afraid to go too low with the resolution fearing that the graphics and text won't look to good when printed. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Lee

Thanks so much! I am actually in the middle of still reading your book Photoshop Elements 5 - The Missing Manual. What prompted me to put this out to the forum was the section you have in the chapter for using Type in PSE where you explain very well about how the resolution of your image effects the size of your text. Before reading that I was kind of stumped as to why things looked different.
That makes better sense then to do all the main graphic stuff in PSE and then go to Publisher for all the rest.
The book is great by the way.

  • How do I get the images/business card to complete the 10 card spaces

I complete making my business card on the first space/template but it does not complete filling the new card info.  How do I complete the page of business cards?

    Hi hd,
EDIT: OOPS! The instructions below assumed you were using the Business Card Template in Pages '09. Seing as you've posted this question in the AppleWorks discussion area, it's more likely that you are using the Database module in AppleWorks. Instructions for that application are in my second post below.
    B
Read all steps below before starting, then go through the steps in sequence.
Select all of the elements of the one you have created. Go Arrange > Group.
    Copy.
    Press command-A to select all.
Command-click on the completed card to deselect it.
With everything except the original card selected, press delete to clear the form.
Paste (to paste the copy you have made of the original card).
(If you did not copy the original:
(Select the original. Press command-D to duplicate it.)
Use the mouse and the alignment guides to position the duplicate in the top right space on the template. (This assumes the original is in the top left space.)
Move the mouse pointer to the original, then command-click to add it to the selection.
    Go Arrange > Group
Press command-D four times to create four more pairs of cards.
Use the mouse to drag the last-created pair to the bottom row of the template, and left to align with the top pair (indicated by the appearance of alignment guides).
Go Arrange > Align > Left
Go Arrange > Distribute Objects > Vertical.
Each card should now be in the center of its space. If not, select each individually and perform minor adjestments using the mouse and/or the arrow keys.
NOTE: Depending on the template, you may see a set of small x s when you Select All. These are the handles of a large, locked object. Command-click on the object to remove it from the selection before attempting the last two steps in the list.

  • Double side business card crop marks

    Hi
I am working on double sided business cards. I am using illustrator cs4.  But the crop marks on one side dont align with the other. I am also using a
office jet pro 8600 with duplex printing. I called HP but they said it has nothing to with the printer. They said it is the software that I am using.

    Hi,
May we have a screenshot of your canvases? How you set up your print depends largely on how you are approaching the layout of the project. How significant is misalignment? Are we talking about 1/16th of an inch or whole inches?
There are multiple factors to be addressed when printing couble sided documents. Firstly, you need to be sure that your files are set up so that the front and back are aligned within the document itself. I'm assuming that you are using canvases that are the dimensions of the card. In the print dialog you should also be making sure that the file is set up to print the document in the absolute center.
Secondly, your printer has to be aligned properly. This is another beast entirely, and you will need to consult your printer documentation to figure out how to adjust this.
I know this is kind of a non-answer, but I hope it gets you on the right track. Good luck!

  • Color issues with Business Cards and Vista Print (Ps & Ai)

So I use Vista Print for my business cards, quick, easy and affordable.
I had some graphics that could not be reproduced in Ai very easily so I downloaded the Vista Print .PSD template and worked off of that.
When the cards came in color was correct but the font was not good. Not very clear and there was digital noise around the edges, so not crisp.
So I downloaded the Ai template from VP, reproduced the card in Ai and just dropped the logo in on the canvas and redid all the text in Ai.
When I got these cards in, the font looked much better and crisp, but all my colors were off. My navy blues were not navy-purplish looking. Side by side, it was a big difference.
I didn't change any color profiles I even made sure the CMYK values from the original photoshop file matched exactly to the Ai file.
So question is, why would the Ai file print differently if the CMYK color values were the exact same? It makes no sense to me. Was it perhaps how I saved the Ai files? There are so many options when saving it's a bit overwhelming.

Believe it or not, the Vista Print cards could be color copies.  Try and post a screen shot of each card so we can see the differences.  Not sure how you proofed the card redo out of Illustrator and/or what you used to print the redo card.  The problem with Vista Print is quality control.  You say the card color is accurate in the VP cards.  However, did you proof the card before sending it to VP?  If you did, how?

  • What type of paper setting should I adjust my printer to for printing business cards?

HP PSC 2210 all in one
Win XP Pro Media 3rd ed.
    No error message
no changes made to the system
I am trying to print out some business cards using Avery 5876 2-sided printable business cards.
When I print a test sheet out of my biz cards on regular 20# paper stock and adjust the settings just so, everything goes well and a trial run using the regular 20 # stock everything comes out great!  But when I put in the Avery card stock and hit go, the printer goes a lot slower while making the script and images very dark with excess toner on the card stock only.  But not on the paper stock. Why is this?
Should I should change the paper settings on the printer from automatic to what setting for business card stock?  If so, to what setting? -- Special papers, greeting cards, brochure papers or what???  PLEASE ADVISE.
    THANKS,
    Scott
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Is the stock designed for inkjet printers?  The cardstock is likley being misread as photo paper by the automatic sensor.  I would suggest trying with brochure paper, other inkjet paper or card stock in that order.

  • How to make business cards?

Hello all! I am new to mac and am loving it... I'll NEVER go back to a pc. Can anyone help me set up a template for making business cards? I would like to be able to make a "sheet" of business cards, but I noticed that there isn't a template already made. Is there a way to preset the size 3.5 x 2.0 so that I can have like 12 to a page? Any info. would be very appreciated!
    Thank you!

    Thank you Dennis,
I unfortunately have pages 07 and I need to get an updated version before I can open your download. I am however, very happy to learn about the iwork community! Thank you! If you know of another way to open the file without the upgrade that would be great!
    Thanks again!

    making a business card
    thank you

On the introductory window, also make sure you pick from the top choices under Word Processing - I just use "Blank". If you choose the Blank under the sedon set (page layout), you will have to get a text box. I use that setting if I have a lot of images I want to insert and then have text around/near the images.
    See my screenshot here:
When you're done with that page, it should automatically move to the next one or you can choose another blank page in the pulldown in the toolbar.

  • Pages templates for business cards.

Pages has templates for business cards. How do you modify/change them and then print to Avery forms?

In Pages open the appropriate Avery word template (from their website) for their BCard sheets, then copy over a single BCard from the Apple templates.
    Modified that to your liking.
You can option drag copies of objects in Pages so just option shift drag copies into place.

  • Business Card Macros?

Hello, I'm trying really hard to have an easier way to print out business cards. Is there someway I can type in Someone's info, and it will use it for the whole page, instead of editing every single card? I work for a startup company called pixelgigs @ pixelgigs.com, and we are always hiring more people, and creating a new card, is becoming a real hassle. It's really hard to edit every single card. If their is just some way, I can make a macro? Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance.

    (1) there is no macro feature in Numbers.
    (2) What is exatly the problem ?
I assume that you have x copies of the same card in a sheet.
Some components are fixed and others must be edited from time to time.
If I am right, keep the fixed items in the background.
Create a table with the count of column equal to the count of cards in the sheet's width
and the count of rows equal to the count pof cards in the sheet height.
drag the top left of the table to the location of the variable datas in the first card. adjust colums widths and heights so that the top left summit of every cell is at the location of the variable data in a card.
Type the datas in cell A1
type =$A$1 in cell B1, fill to the right
select cells B1 to the last cell of row 1
    fill to the bottom
select cell B2 to the lower cell of column B
    fill to the left.
Set the border of the cells to none
Next time, you will just have to edit the contents of cell A1
