Making cursor more visible

In Windows, there is a way in the OS to make the cursor more visible (i.e a heavier black vertical line). I find this very helpful.
Is there a way to change the cursor to make it more visible in Mac?

I have seen in some training videos a ring around the cursor to make it more visible. How can I get this ring around my cursor in Photoshop CS 3?

This should do it:
1. Go to systems preference and click it. (it'll be under the top L hand side, click the apple logo and "System Preferences" will appear in a drop menu)
2. Go to Show All
3. Click Universal (round blue shape with a person logo)
4. Click Mouse
5. Go to Cursor size (at the bottom of the page) and adjust the size from normal to large. Watch your actual cursor on screen so you can see how big or small you're making it.
voila: a change of arrow or cursor size.

Making comments more visible on a print out

I like how Dreamweaver highlights my comments in yellow
when you are looking at it on the computer. Is there a
"preference" I can set that does the same when I print out the
code?
It would make it much easier to find a particular piece of
code if the preceding comment/documentation were highlighted on a

To check image resolution and lots more info use Acrobat Pro preflight feature.
There's a few options in Acrobat to deal with your hyperlink question, you can use a text tool to change the colou of the text or indeed add an underline.
It may be that the hyperlinks in your PDF are being automatically recognized as such by acrobat/reader.
(to check go to edit>preferences>general, create links from URLs)
in that case whenprinting the doc, the links don't have actual print info to print.
Or the link is an actual link but has been set to an invisble border to be used, you could change the properties of the link using the link too, to hnage the border to an underline for example.
If unsure, share a sample pdf somewhere, so we can have a look.

Cursors - More number of repeated full table scans

If i execute the below mentioned query in sql*plus
select distinct cod_acct_no, a.cod_cc_brn, a.cod_prod
from account_master a, product_master b
where a.prod_no = b.prod_no
and b.cod_sc_pkg = var_pi_cod_sc_pkg
and cod_acct_stat not in ( 1,5)
UNION
select distinct a.cod_acct_no, a.cod_cc_brn, a.cod_prod
from account_master a, charge_account sc
where sc.cod_acct_no = a.cod_acct_no
and sc.cod_sc_pkg = var_pi_cod_sc_pkg
and cod_acct_stat not in ( 1,5)
I am getting results within a minute. Account_master is the big table in this join. And only one full table scan is happening for this table.
IF the same query is used in pl/sql cursors, it is taking very long time and after analysis, it was found that multiple times of FTS is happening for account_master table. Why it is happening ? Any help pls.

Hi,
First thing, you don't need to issue a distinct for each Select section in a Union: Union automatically does that, by sorting and returning distinct values of both result sets combined.
But most importantly, the performance is poor because you're running a loop, not because the query itself is any worse than what it was in SQL*Plus.
When you run a cursor for loop, the PL/SQL engine has to switch context to the SQL engine repeatedly to fetch the next row, one at a time, and even though you may
not notice a performance degradation when you have a small resultset, as it scales up the problem becomes more visible.
What is it you're performing inside the loop?
Bottom line is you should avoid the cursor for loop solution and do it in a single statement or at least using bulk collect/forall operations, that should increase your performance dramatically.
If you can post a little more about your problem, instead the solution you initially thought of, it would help us help you. Basically please provide us your Oracle version, table structures and sample data for them,
along with an expected output or data manipulation.

How can I get the scroll bars to be more visible/contrasting?

The scroll bars are difficult for me to differentiate from their background. Can I change their colour or darkness to make them more visible?

Firefox uses the native scroll bars by default.<br />
You can try to select another window theme in your Linux distribution that has better scroll bar appearance or see if installing a Firefox theme helps.

How can I make new messages in threaded view to be more visible?

In threaded view when a new message arrives the thread is underlined. Is there a way to make this more visible with color? This is really important as I tend to miss the new messages because I do not see the underline very well.

How about View|Folders|Unread? That will at least reduce the amount of stuff you have to work through. Probably not useful if you aren't moving messages to folders by means of filters.
Or the QuickFilter, which has an "Unread" filter option. See the attached image.
Or you could create a Saved Search folder for unread messages.
You can set up code to tweak the colours but it's rather techie and not trivial to do.

How to make a text becoming more and more visible?

Maybe I didn't use google well, but I didn't find anything in the internet what could solve my question.
I basically want to work with a white background, where a text is on which becomes more and more visible the more it comes closer to the bottom. The tricky thing is, it's for a website, so it has to be responsive for smartphones or tablets for example (first idea: put the white background layer to the front like it makes the text behind it more and more visible/invisible?). Any ideas how to solve that? Would be so great to know.

I'm not sure what it means to "be responsive for smartphones or tablets"... People put complex graphics on those things all the time. They have unprecedented power.
Photoshop can help you do what you're describing. What you want is no more complex than putting a gradient mask on a layer so as to create partial transparency. You could have fading text (as a graphic) or a fading solid color fill that would overlay text rendered by a browser.
Just some graphic ideas...
Save as a PNG-24 to get partial transparency that a browser can render.

How do I change the shaded spelling error area from grey to a more visible colour?

Prior to sending an email I have set Thunderbird to do an auto spell check. When this is done the INCORRECT word is highlighted with a LIGHT GREY box which is very hard to find on the page within the email. How do I change this light grey to a more quickly visible colour?

Make Website More Visible To Search Engines

A friend of mine has provided the following feedback on my homepage;
'The Blog page I visited was presented as graphical images, rather than as text. That means you have exact control over the appearance, but has several disadvantages. Among them are that people can't copy & paste what you've written, and search engines may not find it. (I say may not, because there seems to be some kind of text-based version that loads momentarily and then gets overwritten by the graphical image. Very strange! Search engines may be able to find the text-based version.)
I have tried to find my website on Google without success. How do I make it more visible to search engines? Is there some preference in iWeb that would help?

I wouldn't worry too much about the whole text-to-graphic conversion issue. iWeb does this for your benefit so that what is rendered is exactly what you expected. It is my belief that the negative effect of this on search engine results is also overblown.
Anyhow, the least that you can do to get your site indexed by Google eventually is to go to Google directly and register, verify, and provide a sitemap for your site. I have put down a set of directions here for everyone's benefit...

In the simplest sense, archiving a file means making a copy that you never change and never discard. You already know how to do that.
iPhoto has built-in archival features, in the sense that it saves all versions of an image that you've modified. As long as you have adequate backups, you don't necessarily have any reason to archive an iPhoto library. If you want to delete images from the working library but still have access to them in case you change your mind, then you do need to archive those images. I don't have a specific suggestion as to how you should do that. You might post a question in the iPhoto forum.

Making the invisible visible!

I have a 1925 Pol Roger champagne bottle - sadly empty - which was drunk in Paris a few days after its liberation in 1944.
I was signed by all the leaders of the French Resistance who were there at a dinner on 4 Sept 1944, and is overprinted that it is only to be drunk by German officers.
Sadly the overprinting is much light-faded and several of the signatures have faded beyond recognition though my childhood memory is that there were several more visible.
I have had it professionally photographed, but do not have the skill myself to know if anything can be recovered by post-processing or by specialist photography - perhaps using a UV light source. I am told by a manuscript conservator at the Bodleian Library that there is no restorative work that can be done on the label itself.
If anyone thinks it is useful I can post it on Flickr and i would also welcome any advice on where else I might post this plea (WinTel fora not excluded!).

The RAW images are about 16Mb but as where I live ADSL is 50 kbps I have done a low-compression jpeg to 2Mb.
