Making Custom Template in DVDSP

I have a DVD set up with two menus, connections, and a script. When I try to save it as a custom template it will only save a single menu and track.
Is it not possible to save a custom template with multiple assets? (menus, track place holders, and scripts)
I am trying to make a custom template for essentially "drag and drop" use for multiple projects.
Thanks in advance for the help and my version of DVDSP is whatever the most current is that came out with FC7.

I'm wondering if someone can help me.
I'm on SP 4.1.2, latest build of Leopard.
When I creating my templates, which are just enhancements of the Filmstrip versions, Sp crashes on me. Spinning wheel!
Using the filmstrip template, I end up having 2 pages.
1. the main page
2. the chapter selection pages (could be multiple of course)
So I set my menus up, then I go to the first menu, cntrl-click or right click (using a logitech trackball) and choose create template. I give it a name then click the box for self-contained.
When I press save, SP crashes hard, displaying the spinning wheel.
I have to force quit and of course, not changes were made
Any ideas?
I've reset permissions etc.. so I don't know that the problems is.
I do know this could save me some time. I could just use Apple's stock filmstrip project, but i don't like it enough. I transfer home videos for people and their DVDs are usually 12-18 chapters.
I'd like to have various templates set up for 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 (or more) chapters set up so I can just drop and drag to make all the connections.
Cheers and thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers,

  • Can't save custom templates in DVDSP 4

I cannot seem to create and save custom templates. When I try, I get a variety of error messages, such as "no audio asset" or "cannot connect to blah blah asset" or I get no message at all--it just doesn't save. To confirm, there is no new template in the Custom tab, nor is there any new file in the appropriate folder under App Support.
This happens whether I create from scratch or alter an Apple template as a test.
I am the only user of this computer and log on as an administrator, although I gather this was only an issue with previous versions anyway.
I have a couple of older menu templates that I created and saved from the previous version of DVD Studio Pro before upgrading to 4, so I know I've done it before. These templates show up in the Custom Tab in DVDSP4 as well as in the folder for templates under my user hierarchy.
I suppose a workaround would be to save a menu as a Project template and just open that for each new project, "saving as" or not saving changes at all to preserve the "template," but I'd rather the software work as it should. I intend to build several Menu templates for use in recurring projects with different departments at my place of work.
    Any suggestions?

This might have something to do with user profiles. I have now created a brand new standard user. No admin privileges. Logged on as this Test user, I am able to create new templates, modify existing ones, etc., and all of them are saved properly. The new templates show up under the Custom tab, as well as in the templates folder under user Test's application support folder.
For some reason, I just can't get DVDSP 4 to behave when I'm logged in as my Admin account.
To recap...when I try to modify an existing Apple template and save it, I get the following error message "Can't Create Template. No audio asset found."
This happens the first time I try to save, and if I try again (whether or not I make a change) the program gives me no message at all--just doesn't save it.
    Arrggghhhh.

  • Making custom templates and packaging them.

I have done several DVD's for clients/parents of thier childs soccer team videos. I normally make a custom menu for them. My question is, if i wanted to make this template and save it to give to someone else to use is there a way to do it. I guess it would be like making one to sell, but i am not selling it:) If anyone knows of a tutorial or anything that can help me i would appreciate it greatly. I am thinking about making generic templates fo several sports.

    Hi Zack,
My guess would be if you do these in Photoshop, Live Type or Motion (as I do) give them these plus all associated files. If you have save these in DVD SP they are in Library>application Support>DVD SP>Templates. Hope this helps.

  • Exporting custom templates from DVD Studio Pro

So I recently developed a custom template in DVDSP that my company wants to use on all our DVDs.  Is there any way to export or share this template with my coworkers, or am I stuck with DVD duty?

Ah, after posting this, I found a solution here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/12420982#12420982
The instructions are slightly off: you look in User>Library>Application Support>Final Cut Studio>DVD Studio Pro>Templates and there you go.

  • Making Pages open a custom template automatically

    Hi,
I made a custom template in Pages 09, and I would like to know how to have it open as a default.

  • How to make a custom template the default for Apple Mail (10.7.5)?

    Hi,
I'm OK with making a new custom template in Apple Mail.  It shows up fine once under "custom" in the stationary pane (and once I take off signature in a new email).  But... that's a lot of trouble to go through everytime I want to send an email.
So the question is: can I make my custom template my default for all my emails, unless I want to manually change it?  Seems like this should be possible but I can't figure it out and haven't run into any solutions (only on how to make a template).
Do I really have to select it each time?
    Best,
    Joel

As an FYI: I just solved the problem by going the "low road." I'll be a bit laborious in case someone else wants a solution at a later date (I know I Googled the topic and found nothing). I experimented by simply:
    Opening a new email message
    Selecting my custom template
Copying the custom signature (Select All)
    Opening another new email message
Selecting Edit on the Signature pulldown menu
Hitting the plus symbol to create/add a new signature in the pane
    Pasting into the new signature
    Naming it
Selecting "Choose signature" at the bottom of the signatures pane
    And violà!!
It now appears as a possible selection *and* as the default.
Better yet - it is now my default and will work as a reply to an email.
I think I got it all right in the list above.
OK, granted, this is a pretty simply signature - a list of my website, SoundCloud, twitter etc with those names in bold and a graphic of my color logo - but... it works! YMMV.
Give it to Apple to make it so simple that any fool could do it (that would be me), you wouldn't need a "specialized" app, and - of course - there wouldn't even be instructions on how to do it!
    Best,
    Joel

  • Keeping custom templates and configurations on different drive

What I'm trying to do is keep one set of DVDSP layouts/templates/etc on a partition that all of our editors/graphics artists can access instead of adding 8gb or more on each station. I figured out how to link each station to the stock palette elements, using the preferences, but I didn't see a way to let DVDSP know that the configurations folder has been moved to a new partition. And in terms of custom templates, where are those normally saved? In the same folder as the stock templates? I'm unsure where to point DVDSP to set the custom elements. It's default is /Users/drive/Library/Application Support/Final Cut Studio/DVD Studio Pro. I see that DVDSP wants to save custom templates in the user folder library and the general templates in the general library, but what if I want both on a non-local drive? Can I simply create two folders (templates/custom templates) and make sure that our editors save to the custom folder when using DVDSP?
And lastly, will the custom configurations stay linked if I move the configurations folder to the new location on the shared media partition?
    Hope this makes sense,
    Steve

    Steve
Look in DVDSP Preferences > Destinations > Show: Palette Elements. You'll see the location destination of stock and custom elements.
    Hope that helps !

  • How to create custom Templates in DVD-SP?

Hi, I was wondering how to create my own custom menus/menu templates in dvdsp. Whenever I import something for the menu, It will crop it automatically and will not allow me to re arrange it to show the full clip/image. Any info on creating custom templates would be very appreciated. Thank you, and although new to the apple forums, I am hoping to make my stay long while learning an abundance of information and hopefully helping others with any knowledge I may have.

    These are good:

Just remember...it will take weeks or months or even years to get proficient in designing good menus. This isn't something you just sit down and decide to do in a afternoon. DVDSP is only an authoring tool...its not for design work...and amendments need to be done in PS then reimported back into DVDSP>

  • Restoring Custom Templates

Business Catalyst:  I was working on a template in Site Manage/Module Templates/Online Shop Templates/ and wanted to cancel my changes so I clicked "Restore to Default".  This wiped out all of our custom templates.  Does anyone know how to restore them?  I am taking over where someone left off and am new at this.  Please help and thank you.

Hitting "Restore to Default" should only restore the layout or template you are on, not everything.  Did you do this multiple times?
Did you ever download a copy of the site from BC via FTP or Dreamweaver?  If so, you've got copies of those layouts in your local project directory. If you have a local download of your site, then goto /Layouts/OnlineShop/ and you should see all your layouts that you downloaded. Upload these files back to BC in DW or by SFTP.
If you didn't download the files locally from your site you might not have any recourses to restore those layouts.  There's no versioning system to restore those layouts for most modules.  You can do it for Pages and Page Templates but not for module layouts like Online Shop...
In the future, you should definitely consider downloading your site first to a local directory on your computer for just this type of incident.  Create a backup of your site before you start making changes on BC so you can restore layouts or pages that are irrevocably lost.
If you have DW you can use the Business Catalyst feature to login and download your site with DW's site manager or you can use any old FTP program to connect and download your files. Follow the directions outlined here: http://helpx.adobe.com/business-catalyst/partner/connecting-site-using-ftp-client.html

  • Custom templates/styles/layouts

custom templates/styles/layouts that I save - no matter which folder I save them in (and change the path accordingly in DVDSP prefs)/delete prefs/repair permissions - do not appear in DVD SP 4.0.3's palettess viewer. Any suggestions? Want to drag a track inc chapter markers to menu, to create a menu, but SP then forces me to choose a template/layout, but of course the one I have made is unavailable...

    Hi Chuck,
It seems you are hoping to have possible multiple layouts for specific products which unfortunately is not available at this stage.  There's only 2 dedicated small product layouts and 1 large details layout.
If wanting to wrap the product item to a different template you could assign the product item to a specific catalog to have the unique template but the layout would remain consistent to what I've noted above.
    Kind regards,
    -Sidney

  • I am changing from Word to Pages. I have created my custom template with all my styles etc and that is what comes up when I go for a New Document. Fine. How do I get it to use the same Custom Template when I use Pages to open a Word document?

I am changing from Word to Pages. I have created my custom template with all my styles etc and that is what comes up when I go for a New Document. Fine. How do I get it to use the same Custom Template when I use Pages to open a Word document?

The template is a document in itself, it is not applied to an existing document whether it is a Pages document or a Word document converted to a Pages document.
You would need to either copy and paste content, using existing styles, or apply the styles to the converted Word document.
You can Import the Styles from an existing document and those imported Styles can be used to override the current document's styles:
Menu > Format > Import Styles
The process is simplified if the styles use the same names, otherwise you will need to delete the style you don't want and replace it with the one that you do want when asked, then the substitution is pretty straightforward.

  • Switching themes with customized templates

Most typical Apex applications start with a quick prototype containing most of the required functionality, get required approvals, and continue building it up.
During all of this, the concept of "themes" is mentioned and demonstrated as a reassurance that the "look and feel" of the application can be very easily switched at any point. In other words, let's worry about designing the content and behaviour, the presentation can be easily switched.
All this sounds very good on paper and is do-able as long as one uses the out-of-the-box Apex themes/templates. But, in my experience, any non-trivial application has lots of customized templates. That brings me to my question.
As soon as you start to customize templates, modify them, create new ones, etc, you start to get "committed" to that specific theme. In other words, if I have a theme with 10 customized templates, 5 slightly modified ones, etc, and I switch to another theme from the Apex repository, I get all the out-of-the-box templates for that theme. I have to painstakingly re-do all my customizations for the corresponding templates in the new theme.
And Apex does nothing to help me with this task. There is no "diff" utility between themes, no compares, no merges, nothing. I have to eye-ball the old template, copy the HTML snippets from the Builder into Notepad, pull up my new template and manually copy, paste, modify snippets into the new template. Very error-prone.
How have people handled this sort of thing? Are there any best-practices, any procedures that people follow to make switching between themes painless?
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Second post down.
    http://wiki.shellprompt.net/bin/view/Apex/ThemeTips
I build out themes all the time that are about 70/30 standard templates to custom templates and following that procedure makes the switches fairly easy.

I have Pages 09.  I have created custom templates and want to delete them.  How do I delete a template I have created in Pages 09?

Pages stores those you created & saved as templates in (your account) > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. The door to the user's Library is hidden in Lion but it is easy to open. In Finder, hold down the Option key while clicking on the Go menu & your users Library will appear about halfway down the list.
