Making desktop shortcuts for connections

hi there,
i bought ard3 last week and i have to admit it's a great program. there is one thing i miss though:
is there a way to put a shortcut on your (for example) desktop so you just have to doubleclick to get connected to a computer?
best regards,
eric.

Using the ARD dashboard widget is about the closest you're going to get to that functionality.

  • Can't create a desktop shortcut for a website in Firefox Tor Browser

I am a Tor Browser user, and I really like the Firefox interface. According to my about page, my Firefox browser is up to date. But For some reason I cannot save desktop shortcuts for a website. Every time I drag the icon next to a website (variously a glob, a green lock, and other icons), I get a denial mouse icon anywhere I try to put the web shortcut on the desktop. This even happens when I drag bookmarks from my bookmark bar! My guess is that something is blocked in the Tor settings that won't allow shortcuts. Any suggestions on where the shortcuts settings are in Firefox?

I don't know that program. Go to its Mozilla Add-ons web page and find the support link. Then ask them about this. It may be a bug.
Do the other add-ons I sent you work okay? Then you should be about done, until you hear from the Tor support people.
Once you get an answer, please post it here. Good Luck, Happy Holidays !

  • Desktop shortcut for vi application

    Hallo all,
I'm trying to create a shortcut for my vi application, but the "working directory"
    C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\win2suse\Desktop\mylabview\myvi.vi
    is unvalid.
How could I get around it.
    Thanks a lot in advance

Are you talking about Labview working directory or the working directory associated with the VI. If you are talking about the startup directory then:
After you create the shortcut, right click the icon and fill in startup directory.
You will need to click on Tools->Options and change the appropriate path. You did not specify exactly, what kind of path change you want the VI to use.

  • Is there an easy way to add a desktop shortcut for all users?

Looking for an easy way to add a shortcut to an app for all users.

William is correct. There are global system settings, and then there are personal user settings. Adding a shortcut to the desktop, or more commonly the Dock is a personal setting.
Unless its in some kind of mass deployment scenario where you can create a pre programed image for large amounts of computers which has it already has your app shortcut setup, its easier to just do it one user at a time.

  • How would I create a desktop shortcut for one of my bookmarks?

What I would like to do is access one of my bookmarks straight from my desktop. I think I need to create a shortcut in order to do this. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Sorry misunderstood
    Here's solution
You can use Firefox to create a shortcut on your computer's desktop to a page you've visited:Resize the Firefox window so you can see both your computer's desktop and the Firefox window on the same screen.Click the icon on the left of the Location bar, i.e. where the web address (URL) is shown. While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop, then release the mouse button. The shortcut will be created. You can also drag and drop items to the desktop from the Bookmarks menu and the Library window to create shortcuts. If you open the shortcut you made, your default browser will open, and display the page for which you made the shortcut. If you want to make Firefox your default browser, see How to make web links open in Firefox by default. In addition, there may be third-party Firefox extensions that can help you. For more information on searching for and installing extensions, see Find and install add-ons to add features to Firefox.Share this article: http://mzl.la/O8wQKO

  • Ceating a desktop shortcut for a URL gives an error upon click

After I drag to the desktop a shortcut appears. In properties it lists the correct URL. When I click to open the error "Unable to open this internet shortcut. The protocol "http" does not have a registered program.
This happens with IE as well as Firefiox. FF is my goto browser. Win 7, FF 18.
    Any ideas?

Make sure that you have set Firefox as the default browser.

  • Desktop shortcut for printer?

I have installed a printer but how do i creat a shortcut so it is visible on my desktop?

I like to do this too, so here is how to do it.
First, open your Library folder. This is normally hidden on Mavericks, but if you press Option while clicking the Go menu in the Finder, the Library command will appear. Choose it.
In the Library folder, find the Printers folder. This contains all printers you have added to your Mac.
Hold down the Option and Command keys and drag any printer to the desktop. Option-Command-drag creates a shortcut. Now you have a printer shortcut on the desktop.
But I don't like to clutter my desktop, and it's usually hidden by windows. And I never know which printer I want to change. So instead of adding shortcuts to each printer, I added a Printers folder shortcut to the Dock. Now I simply click on my Printers shortcut in the Dock and all my printers pop up and I can click any of them. If you prefer the Desktop to the Dock there's nothing stopping you from creating a Printers folder shortcut on the Desktop.
(Note: If you didn't make shortcuts, the way you would change printer settings is to open System Preferences, click Printers and Scanners, and select your printer. This would display the buttons "Open Print Queue" and "Options & Supplies.")

  • Placing desktop shortcuts in Mac

    hi there,
I've created an installer(.pkg file) using "Package Maker" for shipping some files and for creating alias(desktop shortcuts) for the shipped folder in customer's machine. But I'm not really sure, creating alias in customer's machine is a good practice. My question here is,
    1. Whether it is a good practice to create aliases in the customer's machine ?
    2. Is there any, Apple's Human Interface Guidelines regarding this ?
thanks is advance for any helps,

There are some common practices in regards to installing applications on OSX:
Mac App Store applications (.app files) automatically get installed in the Applications folder (/Application).
Apps distributed as .dmg (disc image) files typically contain the application, readme files and an alisa (shortcut) to "/Applications" when the disc image is mounted. The user can then easily put the files in "/Applications" by dragging them to the alias or choose to put the files in some other location.
Apps distributed as plain .zip files typically expand to a .app file or a folder containing the .app file and readme files. The user is then expected to place the  .app file / folder in any location they like.
Most .pkg installers give a choice on which HD to install, but will then proceed to put the .app file in "/Applications". Note that a .pkg installer should only be used when the application can not be distributed as a simple .app file.
Shortcuts (aliases) are not created as part of a OSX app install.
Mac users have several ways to find and access their installed apps:
Via the Applications folder in the dock.
Via any other folder placed in the dock.
By clicking on an application previously added to the dock by the user.
    Via search using Spotlight.
    Via Launchpad.
By using the Finder to directly find the application.

  • Duplicate Office Desktop Shortcuts

We are migrating from Novell GroupWise to Outlook 2010. Our existing users have Word, Excel and PowerPoint installed in Windows 7 x64 Professional, so I created an Office MSP patch file using the Office Customization Tool. The MSP works and after applying
the patch, it would add Outlook to the Start menu. The first time the user launches Word after the patch is installed, Office goes through a configuration phase. At the end, it creates an identical set of desktop shortcuts for Word, Excel and PPT.
How do I prevent the duplicate desktop shortcuts? I have not been able to find an answer. There is a configure shortcuts screen in OCT where you can specify the desired shortcuts, but it is designed for first time installation, not customizing existing installation.
I could use some help. Thank you.
    ~Victor

    Make sure that Office icon are still located on the path %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office 15\Root\VFS\Windows\Installer\{90150000-000F-0000-0000-0000000FF1CE}
Please test to create a new shortcut from the program's exe file, then see if you may be able to change the icon of this new shortcut from the properties
Let me know the result above. Thanks.
By the way, some of 3rd party utility on the market may enable greyed out controls, I don't make the introductions here.

  • Desktop Shortcut in non-Default browser?

    Good Evening,
I have Google Chrome set as my default browser in Lion.  To access certain DOD websites I have to use Safari since it can access my PKI smartcard and chrome can't.  I'd like to create a few desktop shortcuts for these websites to open in Safari, not chrome.  I can drag the URL to the desktop and it creates the shortcut.  I right clicked on the icon and changed the "open with" to Safari but when I then double click the icon it still opens in the default browser, Chrome.
Any mac geniuses out there who know of a script or something to force those specific desktop shortcuts to open in Safari(not default browser) vs Chrome (default browser)?
    Thank you!

This isn't working for me for a URL I want to force open in Firefox (Chrome is my default).  Right-click "open with" works.  But, even after changing the "open with" in "get info" to Firefox, it opens in Chrome.
Changing ".webloc" to ".webbookmark" broke it entirely.  It does open in FF, but as an XML file that outputs this:
    <plist version="1.0"><dict><key>URL</key><string>[URL]</string></dict></plist>
    Any ideas?  Thanks.

  • Is there an Instant Ink shortcut (HP Connected) that you can place on your desktop??

Is there an Instant Ink Shortcut (HP Connected) that you can place on your desktop to keep track of your instant ink plan??

    Hello Debi60,
In looking at the HP Instant Ink information on HP.com I did not see a reference to a desktop icon. I did find a reference for viewing how many pages have been printed in the month (the last item on the following FAQ list):

  • How to create shortcut desktop icon for all users???

    Hello All,

    JS
    Hi,
I am just wondering, what is the technically correct location to place say, a shortcut, for all users to access on their desktops on a given machine?
    Is it C:\Users\Public\Desktop ?
    Or is it C:\Users\All Users\Desktop ?
Would it also be possible to explain the differences as well? Or paste some links to the overview of each one? I am having trouble finding anything from MS.
    Thank you.

  • To create a desktop shortcut icon for the application for a jar file

    Hi
I have created a jar file for my application. when i double click this jar file, the application opens.
    What i want is--
Instead of user clicking on the jar file, my application also has to create a desktop shortcut icon.
If the user clicks on the icon which is on the desktop the application should open.
    Please suggest me.
    Thanks in advance.

    >
Please suggest me.>Launch the application using java webstart. A webstart launch offers things like a splash screen, automatic updates, and desktop integration in the form of desktop shortcuts and program menu items. If the launch file specifies icons, they are used for the shortcuts, otherwise a generic icon is used.
For a comparison between a sandboxed webstart launch and a plain app., try the [Text Width Checker|http://pscode.org/twc/].
While the TWC can run OK within the security sandbox, many applications need to be digitally signed and request extended permissions, to do what they need to do.
STBC is an all-permissions webstart launch.
    Edit 1:
And for one that definitely suggests desktop shortcuts (I usually avoid them, in favor of a menu item only), try the sandboxed [demo of the PrintService|http://pscode.org/jws/api.html#prs], which prompts the user to choose.
