Making Duplicates from DVD not files saved

I have been reading a lot of the discussions and I think I am understanding that after making a DVD from iMovie I can delete all files. I am making movies from stills in iPhoto so I keep the original photos. Can I just duplicate at a later time the DVD for more copies? I do not anticipate making any changes.

If you are simply wanting to be able to make clones in the future then you can copy one of your finished DVDs using Disc Utility, which has full instructions on http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=42724
Therefore keep at least one master backup copy or use Disc Utility to create the disc image and keep it on a hard disc if you have the space.

You can do that (see below), but how are you going to back them up? If your only copies are on the TC, when (not if) it fails, you risk losing your only copy of the data.

No, but there are some workarounds, including making a fixed-size disk image on it to "reserve" some space. See #Q3 in Using Time Machine with a Time Capsule.
But you still won't have backups of the stuff you put there.
You don't say what kind of Mac you have. If it's a desktop model, just keep the external HD connected to it, and let Time Machine back it up along with your internal HD.
However, it sounds like you may have a laptop, where that's not going to be convenient. In that case, your best bet might be to copy the external HD to a disk image on the TC as above, then keep the HD in a safe place.
To finish, when i enter the TC and go through the Time line how can I get a file from there and move it back to Mac hd.

Editing from DVD TS files on Final Cut

Hi,
I'm sure this is old news to anyone here, but I've been editing on final cut for years with quicktime files and now have a job to do requiring me to capture from playable DVD. I have tried this once before with pretty average and frustrating results.
Does anyone know of a simple way to edit in Final Cut from DVD TS files? Perhaps I need to use IMovie or something different? Or perhaps I can open a TS project, and save on two generations of compression damage?
Any tips would be much appreciated, thanks.

Making Jpegs from DVDs

I have a DVD from a friend which has home movies on it. I want to save specific frames as Jpegs. Can't figure out how to do this. Any suggestions?

A few other alternatives as well.
You can also use Capture Me to take a snap shot of the DVD Player window. A bit old now, but still works in 10.4.5, and it's free. You'll have to experiment with what format you save the pictures in though. I've found that some formats do not show in Preview, although they do show in Photoshop and GraphicConverter.
If you need to capture a particular frame - and no-other will do - then you will have to pause DVD Player and inch forward using the right arrow key until you come to the frame you want. If you go too far, then you'll have to rewind a bit and start again.
If you have iMovie you can either convert the .vob file to a DV, or import it straight in. Problem is it takes time to do either, but you can easily find and choose the exact frame that you want to save as a picture.
Another alternative you can use, if you have the QuickTimeMPEG2.component, is MPEG Streamclip to move around inside - and save pictures from - the .vob file without having to convert it to anything else. You can also move backwards and forwards one frame at a time if you need to choose that exact frame to save.

Import video from DVD (VOB files)?

What is the recommended way to import DVD (non-commercial/non-encrypted) footage into Final Cut Pro X? I have some clips on a DVD that I need to include in my project. I don't want to transcode and I've read using streamclip is the way to go but requires purchasing an out of date codec from Apple, etc. Really Apple? That's absurd. There must be a better way.

I get that, but you have to use some hacky work around to import video from a DVD. The version of the mpeg software is not even compatible with Mountain Lion. Tom, do you have a working workflow to import VOB files?

Importing from DVD not showing full video

I'm trying to import a video (VOB file) from a DVD, but the full frame of the video is not showing. The frame size that is importing seems to be importing as a different frame size than the video is and I can't seem to change it. The import seems to be cropping it. If I adjust the size in the Program Sequence window, it is showing the cropped version of the video.
Can any of the other files on the DVD be imported such as the IFO file?

... What other formats can iMovie & iDVD use? What do you recommend? ...just dv. and for stills jpeg, tifff.. and for music aiff, mp3... but that was not your question any other video-codec gets converted/has to be converted...

...you don't do settings using iDVD. this app needs a dv stream to work in the highest possible quality. use the export to iDVD feature of iM.
in case, you spend a few k$, you can buy DVDSP, including a tool called Compressor... after learning a few years to handle it, you can result smaller files with higher quality.....

MacBook Pro mid 2010, gray screen at start up, boot from dvd not working.

Backstory:
I was in the process of installing Windows 7 using boot camp, but I was a little bit low on HD space. So, I deleted the user account that had a ton of stuff, and did some other crap that messed up my hard drive. So my computer just won't boot. It shows a gray screen 24/7, going into safe boot/safe boot + verbose doesn't fix the problem. I tried booting from an OSX Leopard dvd, but it won't work when I hold down C, and when I choose the Mac OS X Install DVD option after holding the option key, when I click the arrow button it freezes and doesn't boot. I have Lion installed, and apple says not to boot with an older version of OSX DVD, but there is no Lion DVD.
What do I do?
PS: I'm trying to boot using the DVD so I can reformat my hard drive, trying to do so in Recovery HD doesn't work because it says it 'Can't unmount drive'.

How to import from DVD (VOB files)

I have PP CS4 version 4.2.1 and am using it on a Windows 7 - 64 bit machine. I have tried several different ways to import the VOB files in order to edit. I am able to view each of the VOB files in the Source Monitor, but I can't seem to put them together. That is, the video I want to edit is found on four of the VOB files.
I have also used AVS Video Converter 6 to rip the VOB files into one AVI file, but when I import the AVI file the video plays at what looks like about double speed and gets way out of sync with the audio.
I am a Premiere Pro newbie, but have lots of experience with Dreamweaver and creating websites. In fact, the final product will be a Flash video.
Any help will be appreciated.

Import from DVD (Not copywright material)

Some of my older work is on dvd and I no longer have it on my hard drive. Is there a way to import video segments (not copywright material) into Final Cut?

These must be new additions then. I evaluated all three of them last year and only DVDxDV allowed the use of different codecs.
Now that I think of it, I think Cinimatize might have used the Apple mpeg-2 decoder, which was resizing the horizontal resolution from 720 to 640. That was also a problem I was having trying to convert, and only DVDxDV did it right.
I guess a few things really do get better with time.

I have a Toster 7, copy all DVD VOB [generate on a Sony 305 DVD] files to my Hard Disc and place them on the Toster browser... when I click to export them it just export part of my VOBs... just the first record video from the VOBs... how can I export all videos?

ahh, you try one of the "dirty tricks"..
a) you have to select a .vob before hitting Apple-K
b) your disk has to be "finalized" in yuur camera... read its manual how to accomplish that....

Making Links from UL Not Working the way I would Like

Just trying to learn more of CSS and am having a problem.
I make a vertical unordered list and used the li tag to make a "box" arond each link (red text/black background/red border)
I then made the text in each box a link using the menu "Modify/make link" option. This works fine.
So next I tried to create a compound rule (li,a:hover) to change the font color to black and the background color to red - basically reversing the colors from the non-hover state. So on hover , while the text changes to black as I want it to the background just changes to red as soon as I select that color in the rule?

Duplicate topics in ALI file

Hello,
I recently took over a project that's using RoboHelp X5, and
I'm having trouble with duplicate topics listed in the ALI file.
For example, the topic named "Add Product" has the following 2
records in the ALI file:
Add_Product=Product/Add_Product.htm
Add_Product1=Product/Add_Product.htm
This duplication has occured for most (but not all) of the
topics. Does anyone know why this is happening or how I can fix it?
Is it okay to delete the duplicates from the ALI file or will that
cause problems?

IPad (v8.1.3) prints blank pages in some Notes files

In the Notes app of my iPad (8.1.3) using AirPrint it sometimes prints nothing but blank pages. Some Notes files will print, however, but others will not. Also, If I copy text from a Notes file that prints only blank paper to a file that was able ti print text (as it is supposed to) the file is suddenly infected by whatever, stops printing text and prints only blank pages. How can I reliably print out all of my Notes files?

I came here for the same problem that the one described here (Preview won't display some pdf documents). But, as it was mentionned, Acrobat is able to show them. Tried the anti-aliased option, no luck there either. However, I noticed that the document not handled by Preview are reproductions, copies, pictures of documents. For example, I work with scholar articles. The problematic documents are not pdf saved directly, let's say, from Distiller or Word. They seem to be scanned documents, and each page of the pdf is actually a big picture. Could it be that Preview is not strong enough to handled this kind of doc?
By the way, a Preview discussion folder would be nice...

Data DVDs not reading correctly

For a while, I had been backing up data to DVDs, and I had never experienced issues retrieving the data from those DVDs later. However, now, when I try to retrieve data from DVDs, some files will copy correctly, while others will receive an error saying something along the lines of "incorrect permissions." I've attempted to repair disk permissions before, to no avail. I suspect this isn't due to the actual burning of the discs, because discs I haven't burned experience the same errors. (For example, I can no longer install Command and Conquer 3 because the installation process -- drag and drop -- fails with the same error as before).
Is there any history of this occuring? And if so, is there a solution, or do I need to get a new disc drive? Many of the files I can't retrieve are relatively important, and since most Apple-supported games are installed via drag-n-drop, I worry Command and Conquer 3 will be the last game I ever buy unless I get this fixed.
