Making DVD

once I complete my project in Final Cut express what do I do to make a DVD? Do I have to use iDVD or is there something else that Final Cut express comes with that I am missing?

You made my day! I have been working on a DVD all day, trying to find a way to get it to look nice playing back on my TV from a DVD. I tried saving the file in four or five different ways (most ways took an hour or more to export my 27 minute movie and then another 45 min to hour to get iDVD to process the files onto the DVD only to find it looking grainy or having these awful lines that followed anything that moved.) I finally decided to search the discussions and found your suggestion! It was my last attempt for the day before giving up on it til tomorrow. Thanks! Now I can sleep tonight!

  • What are best Mpeg encoder settings for making DVDs?

In switching from PP1.5 to CS3 the procedure is different for making DVDs and we have to encode mpeg files that later get picked up by Encore DVD build proces. What are the best mpeg encode settings for making the DVDs?
    Thanks,
    Chuck Taylor

    Question:
If you are doing a video that is small enough that you are not worried about size, what is the absolute best quality encoder settings? Would a Continous Bitrate result in a higher quality file generally? VBR is for trying to make a smaller file I assume.
I'm frustrated with even white letters on black titles that have some flicker. I just don't seem to get the smooth quality I desire.
Should I look at a different encoder?
If you output PP3 to an AVI and then import it into encore, isn't there a reduction of Q. due to the save to the AVI file?
    thanks.

  • Making DVDs that actually work

    Hello all my fellow Mac-ers
I seem to be having the worst luck when it comes to making DVD copies of my .AVI files.
I have an extensive collection of movie on my hard drives. I've started to put these movies on to DVD and I have encountered some problems.
First problem - I tried to make a backup of an .avi file by just copying said file onto a regular CDrom. Tat cd DID NOT play in any DVD, Computer, or laptop that said it was capable of playing .AVI files. So I burned it to DVD using iDVD and still nothing. I blame this problem on the the units I was trying to play the disc in. Not a big deal
2nd problem - I tried another movie, using iDVD to burn to a DVD disc. It started encoding, took nearly 3 hours to complete the process. The newly burned DVD did play, but the video was jumpy and shaking. The audio was fine.
I bought my MacBook because this stuff was supposed to be easy. I never would think it would take over 2-3 hours to make a DVD. Sometimes I get a multiplexing error and I have to start all over.
I've burned DVDs on my lame PC a few times and it takes no time and it works every time. Using the same .AVI files I have now.
Someone out there, please be so kind as to tell me how to make DVDs the easy way, if there is one.
    Thanks, Chris

  • What are the best imovie, mpeg4 settings for making dvds?

What are the best imovie, mpeg4 settings for making dvds?

    • iMovie'08 to 11
    - Share to Media Browser - AND as Large (or Medium) - HD or other resolutions degrades the final result
iMovie'08 to 11 are not the tools of choise if quality is important as they all degrade the picture by discarding every second line when going from, Event's to Project's and this can not be mended.
iMovie HD6 and FinalCut delivers 100% of what any DVD-Authoring program needs.
    • DVD is as standard MAX - intrelaced SD-Video - and can not be any better than this
    • iDVD does only care about TIME / Duration as
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    • iDVD Does Region = Zero (to be played everywhere)
    • Frame rate - DVD can be in two types PAL (25fps) and NTSC (29.97fps)
If Your material is 30fps then keep to NTSC (29.97fps), if 25fps keep to PAL.
One can feed iDVD the other frame rate - BUT RESULTING DVD WILL BE BAD
I use JES_Deinterlacer (free on Internet) to convert all material to the same and final frame rate
    • NTSC - US etc
    • PAL - EU etc

  • Making DVDs for Japan Clients

    Hi,
I have to make copies of a video for clients in Japan.  As long as I select "All Regions" in Encore (CS4) under Build>Region Codes, the clients should be able to view the disc in their dvd player, right?  Or what else should I be aware of when making dvds for anyone outside of the U.S.?
    Thank you,
    Jen

Region Coding is not available for burned DVDs, anyway.  So I'd not worry about it.
Send them a copy and see if it works for them.  Most PAL players can handle NTSC disks.  Japan uses a variant of NTSC, so chances are good it'll work.

Re: Why when making a slideshow in iphoto, then going to share idvd, when making dvd i keep getting multiplex error

    Hi
There are so many things that can give - multiplex error
    Two very common ones
    • Using letters other than A to Z or 0 to 9 eg. / # ; etc. in texts, titles, buttons or alike's.
    • Turn on TV-Safe area in iDVD and secure that no text or object goes past this or even touching it.

  • What program do i need for making dvds I can play in a dvd player

what program do i need for making dvds that i can play in a dvd player?

    iDVD.
Apple no longer sells it. Buy any version of iLife from your favourite software vendor. iLife 11, 09, and 08 all contain the same version of iDVD.
When you get the disc install only iDVD, then update it here:
    iDVD 7.1.2

  • Best way to making DVD

So what is the best way making DVD after there took Encore a way ?

With Encore. They didn't take it away; they just made it end of life at CS6. This is the link for info re using Encore CS6 with CC, updated for CC 2014 and the cloud desktop install.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/encore/kb/encore-cs6-installed-cc.html
It has links for getting the library (which is not installed with Encore) and a workflow with CC versions.

  • Best Process for making DVD slideshows w/iDVD

Hasn't someone made a Sticky about this yet??
I just perused the forum for this answer and it seems the user "Shippley" has provided the most help in this area. I'm hoping they can help in this case. For making a dvd slideshow using ONLY iMovie, iPhoto and or iDVD what process has been determined to provide the best visual quality on playback in a DVD player?
I've read that for best results in putting a slideshow onto a DVD is to make the slideshow in iPhoto or iMovie first, and then send it on to iDVD.
But I need more information, and in one location-
Should the iPhoto/iMovie slideshow be WITHOUT any transitions for best quality?
In iPhoto, should we organize our slideshow in an Event then Share > Send to iDVD for best results, or is there a better way?
Does iMovie HD (6.0.4) or iMovie '08 (7.1.4) make a difference in quality? Otherwise I want the easiest.
When the iMovie slideshow is being sent to iDVD, should we use Share>Export Movie for the best quality when sending to iDVD? Or is there another/better way?
My photo's are scanned from slides and are small file sizes, if they were large (like from a digital camera) do I have to resize them for optimum DVD viewing?
What about the settings for widescreen or standard, either one better?
iDVD encoding, Best/High/Professional, which one for best clarity?
Like most other infrequent DVD makers, I do not want a fancy slideshow, I don't care if it has transitions if it means I can have better clarity in the DVD player. I have old slides that I simply want to burn to a DVD.
    Thanks for your help!
    Sandy

Here is a quote from a post of F Shippley on March 8, 2010 that I am referring to. Bengt, you also responded to this post. The post is titled "poor picture quality with DVD slideshow".
Thus my confusion as to the best practice. I may look into Fotomagico, but like others, I don't want to have to pay for another application that may only be used once or twice a year! Thank you for your responses.
F Shippley writes, "As I told you in your other message yhread:
The easiest way to improve the quality of slideshows for use with iDVD is to create them as movies in iPhoto or iMovie! Creating slideshows in iDVD has MANY drawbacks (as you have probably found). It's 'quick and dirty' easy for a few slides, but that's about all I use it for.
BTW, for PAL DVDs use 768x576 pixel images for standard video and use 1024x576 pixel images for widescreen video. That's all the resolution a DVD supports. "

  • Other options for making dvd outside fcpx

    Hi
I was just curious. I have lots of time for curiosity since the .img I'm exporting from fcpx to make dvds is at 58% after 5 hours. And it's just a simple dvd with menu and chapter headings.
I imagine I could have exported the timeline to Compressor right? Would making a .img for a simple dvd have been quicker that way?
Someone suggested using iDVD. Could I have exported the timeline directly into iDVD or would I have to have exported something from FCPX first?
I guess I went with using fcpx cause it was such a simple dvd.
    la di la di la,
    elmer

You use FCP X Share>Master File.
Then drop the Master File into iDVD in the usual way.
BTW: 5 hours seems a bit long to me. Depends on length.
At 66% all the encoding is finished, then FCP X hands the burning to the Create Disc app, it should happen all automatically.
So 58% means you are nearly there.

  • Compression settings for making DVD in FCE

I'm sure this question must have been answered many times - but I can't seem to find anything...
I want to make DVD from FCE - I ususally make a Quick time file from QT conversion - but what settings are teh correct ones for DVD?
The project is in a mix of clips in 1920x1080 and 720x575 and the QT file I made with these settings: H264 - size: 1920x1080 looks good when played on teh computer, but when burned to a DVD with iDVD, it jumps in the DVD player .
When I make a QT file (not QT conversion), it sqeezes the dimensions down to 4:3
    Any suggestions?

    towanda62 wrote:

for usage with iDVD, no 'Conversion' needed, the dvd-authoring app will convert anyhow. 'Export QT movie' should do it. too much 'intermediates' doesn't add any value in DVD-making.
'jumping' usually indicates a) too high burn speed, b) 'dirty' player- or burner-head, c) 'wrong' brand of dvd-r (Verbatim has an excellent track-record here), don't use no-names.

  • Locked while making DVD

I have tried to make a dvd several times over the last day.
I used I show to take some screen shot video.
I have tried to cut the video smaller, I have changed project setting nothing seems to work about 5 minutes into making the DVD my computer locks up. So I have to do a hard boot. Any Ideas?
Also if it happens again is there a better way to force quit when my computer is locked up.
    Thanks
    Troy

+I was able to make a DVD after I changed to a Different theme. and settings.+
That's odd... iDVD can't handle "any old type" of video file.
+It took my computer over 5 hours to make the Dvd, is that normal?+
Depends on the quality setting you used. If Pro Quality, I'd say that about right. Anything under 2 hours, use Best Performance and enable background encoding so it works on the encoding while you're working on your project. I don't think laptops are the best option for iDVD... But that's just my opinion.

  • Can I use standard Quicktime or anything else?  (for making dvd's)

Please forgive me if this issue has been discussed, but I didn't find any answers in my searching so here goes: How can I make a DVD that will play in TV set DVD players? Do I need any alternate programs or possibly an upgrade to Quicktime Pro?
Heres the situation I have that way, with any luck, you'll understand what and I am trying to do (and hopefully tell me it's a rather easy process): I have a friend that has a bunch of skate videos available for download on his personal web page....turns out those downloads are .mgp and they play through Quicktime. Now what I want to do is take those said videos and make them into a DVD I can watch in any player. Is this possible with Quicktime, iDVD, or anything else that came standard with my new Macbook or do I need another program? Sorry, I'm a new Mac user.
Thanks for the help I've already been given on ths site and the info I am sure to receive now. So far these discussion forums have been extremely helpful.

Sorry I posted this in the wrong discussion forum.

  • Making DVD's from a HardDrive Camera, (Sony Handycam).

I wanted some feedback on your best way to make a DVD from a Hard Drive Camera. I have the Sony 60 GB HandyCam. It's great. I have many programs to create a DVD and edit them. Some are Quicktime Pro with MPEG 2 converter to 4 then to Streamclip, CaptyDVD, VisualHub, ImageMixer.
I have found that the QuickTime Pro/2 to 4 converter then into iDVD gives me the best results. I want to maintain the 16x9 aspect ratio. When I use iMovie then import to iDVD, it doesn't keep the 16x9. It producers 4x3. I don't want that.
The visual Hub program is great but it gives me the letter box effect. I rather have the true 16x9 formate.
Any other ideas or programs out there YOU like?
    Thanks in advance, Don

Have you considered using Final Cut Express instead of iMovie?
Perhaps you should ask your question in the Final Cut or iMovie discussion area.

  • Why is Color Washed Out after making DVD from FCP

I took a 3 minute corporate video from FCP (shot SD, NTSC DV) and compressed from the timeline in Compressor (3.01) to DVD best 90 minutes. When I burned the DVD in DVDSP (4.2) and played it in a stand alone DVD player with a JVC production monitor it looked washed out. It looks nothing like it does in FCP or DVDSP.
Any idea what is going on?

Yes to the monitor. I shot the video with a Panasonic HVX200 to P2 cards, downloaded and color corrected on Color. Viewed on two production monitors: A JVC CRT and a new Panasonic 26" LCD (LH2600W) production monitor which is fed from a Kona Card via SDI. My Apple 30" monitor, which I edit on is color calibrated with a Spyder calibrator.
I have played the DVD on the 30" and it looks washed out, even after comparing it to a QT movie from the timeline and played on the 30". Something seems to be happening when the DVD is burnt. The mpeg2 file when played in the inspector in Compression looks good too.
This is weird, since I have never had this problem before, but this is the first use of the new Compression.
