Making Flash Animation for Cinema/Theatres

im just wrapping up a film for a client. its a cinematic
short and will be transfered on to film ( i dont know much about
this) however the resolution they asked us to work in was 2048 x
1536 (which i think is a carry forward from the usual) 720 x 540
now my question is - is this the right way of going about
this? i know Phil Nibbelink who did Romeo and Juliet and went
straight from Flash to Film worked in 2048 x 1234.
anyone have any ideas about this?

It's all about ratio.
The shape of nearly all pre-1950s movies were 4:3
The shape of many Disney animation movies and European
movies: 1.66:1
Most American movies today: 16:9
Epic movies: 2.35:1 (Lord of the Rings, Star Wars)

  • How Can I Make a Flash Animation for TV?

I'm learning flash animation and am wondering once I save the flash file to a dvd format, how does the end-user navigate when they put the dvd into their TV? Do I need to design and incorporate a menu for the end-user? If so, how does the TV remote control navigate through this menu that was created on a Mac computer? Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it.

I don't know a lot about this subject but thought I'd give it a shot to answer.  You can use Adobe Encore to create menu systems for your DVD title screen.  As far as Flash is concerned I think you can import your animations into Encore's menu system though I'm not exactly sure how.  If you want to just make an animation that will be played back without interactivity you would just export your Flash animation as a Quicktime MOV file and import it into After Effects for further editing and finishing.  Once you render your mp4 (h.264) from AE you can bring this into Encore to author for your DVD.

  • Exporting flash animation for email banner

HELP!!  I need to export a flash animation that I have produced as an email banner and send the file to a client who will add it to their emails for advertising.  I have tried exporting it as an animated gif and the quality looks terrible!!!
I know that gif only supports 256 colours but am trying to give the client something user friendly that they can just attach to the bottom of their email.  I think there is programs that you can use to export it at a higher quality??  Any advice or tips would bemuch appreciated!!

If you are using html-emails you will need to define an area where you will need to insert your flash within (similar to a webpage with a flash banner).
Animated .gif would work too. Your client can set up a template email or even add the animated gif to their signature in their email options.
Hope any of this is helpful.

  • Flash animation for Myspace

Not sure if this is the right section of the right forum.
I have created a flash that works fine as a flash. But will not export as an animated jif and upload animated. I'm not sure whats going on. I have tried everything I know.
Exported as flash uploaded to photobucket, downloaded and saved. uploaded to myspace. Nothing.
Exported as animated jif, uploaded to myspace - no animation no pictures.
Exported as animated if, uploaded to photobucket, downloaded, saved. Uploaded to myspace - no animation.
Exported as jif sequence, uploaded to photoshop - Stuck - Can not combine layers to create animation.
Exported as quicktime, myspace won't allow up load.
Shortened flash, exported, uploaded, ends up distorted and out of whack. Changed colors to 32. Exported still distorted and magenta seems a fine mix in the colors as well.
Any help is appreciated. I'm really frustrated with this program. More often than not, it will animate on my computer but will not animate on myspace. Any ideas???
    Thanks!

Hi Walter, i got acceptable result, though I am not sure what are the broadcaster's expectations, they have asked for foll. formats
    H.264 (our preferred format)
    Photo JPEG
    Motion JPEG (A or B)
    Mpeg 2 at 25mpbs
I still have to add sound, hopefully it should go fine, thanks for your help.

  • [help] - Flash animation for i-mode mobile

    Hi! ^^
I'm getting a trouble while creating a game for i-mode
    mobiles (DoCoMo)
It works fine in Flash8 mobile simulator. But when I tested
it in i-mode Simulator II, I got a (big) trouble:
The animations perform not very slowly but when I hold down a
key to move the character in the game, every animations are nearly
stopped! only the character can move, and when it moves, all
animations inside it are stopped too :(
Everythings can only move again when I release the key :)
Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?
ah, moreover, even when I hold down a key but let the
flashplayer do nothing (i don't make the character move anymore and
let all the movieclips work it own), the animations still slow
down. It seem that the CPU spend too much time/power to process
    these keyevents :(
    Thanks ^o^

yeah sure, it works fine :) That's also the way I solved my
    problem. Thanks again ^^
But I think this could be very complex in some kind of games.
For example: a game that has a moving background (controled by AS,
not just a simple animation), and while the background is moving,
we need to make the characters move by pressing some keys.
In this case, when the key is pressed, I need to make all the
objects move: background, characters,... So a piece of code must be
placed in the keyevent handler's functions to control the moving of
the backgorund. But it only be excuted when keypressed. So to make
the background moves all the time, another copy of that code must
    be placed somewhere else.
-> There's some duplicated codes (do exactly the same
work) excuted at the same time and they may cause some problem...
It's just how I solved my problem +_+
Maybe you have a greater idea ^^
Thanks for reading! (my English is not good, heh)

  • Converting an interactive Flash animation for iOS

    Hello -
I am a bit of a Flash newbie - but we have some interactive particle simulators that had been programmed in Flash (.swf files).
I would like to find a way to convert these into some other format for use in iBooks Author.
How difficult would this be, and what kind of tools would I need to do it?
    Thanks.

i think the chances of this being doable is close to zero if your swf contains any significant actionscript.
in any case, you're more likely to get more information checking with ibooks author experts because the number of flash experts that have heard of ibooks author is going to be much smaller than the number of ibooks author experts that have heard of flash.

  • Importing Flash animation into Catalyst

Is Catalyst yet capable of importing and using movie clips made in flash, or it can only use static images on layers from Photoshop and Illustrator?  If not, I'd like to say that I really like the idea of making Flash animation movie clips how I usually do, but then being able to utilize them in the Catalyst environment.  So for example le't say I want to create rollover animations for buttons, could I make that in Flash and then bring that into Catalyst?
Also, do I need CS4 to use Catalyst?  Thanks.

    Hi,
Creating transitions in Flash Catalyst does not require writing any ActionScript code.  Although animation in Flash Catalyst is most commonly created via state transitions, you can also create animation without states by using an action sequence (which you can trigger from any interaction, just like a state transition).
Here are some video tutorials introducing animation in Flash Catalyst:

  • I can't open a flash animation made in Flash CS6 in CS5

I created a Flash Animation for a school project in Adobe Flash CS6 at home, and at school which uses Adobe Flash CS5, I can't open the flash file.  Is there anyway I can make this happen, because until then I can't work on my project.

Flash Pro CS6 supports saving as a Flash CS5.5 or Flash CS5 documents(fla and XFLs).
You can save this to either of these formats using the File->Save As option

  • Making an Animation

Hi Eveyone...I installed Adobe Flash CS5.5 a couple of days back...Trying to learn a few basic tricks such as motion tween (messed up things with the bone tool though)..Well the problem is, a friend of mine made a 3D drawing in Solid Works(a modelling software). It is a sort of box, now he wants me to make a flash animation for the box which starts from a sheet of paper and folds into a box and then the camera zooms out...
Now i have no idea how to do that..jpg file can be made and imported to flash...but as it will be an imported file how can it be manipulated to achieve the final task....taking screen shots of the box at various stages of solid works can be done and then played all together in flash baut it would be very tiresome and time consuming...
I dont want anyone to make it for me just guide me what tools and tutorials to look at.
Help is much needed and appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Here's one way you may accomplish animation.  I replied to another thread about something similar and this seemed to help them.  Kind of the same idea you were getting at by taking screen shots at various positions, let the 3D software do the animaiton for you:
    1. Use the 3D modeling software to render about every 3 frames of the animation to reduce file size (3 works pretty well for smooth motion) (render to a file format that supports alpha, like .tga)
    2. pull those frames into photoshop and use the alpha information from those frames to extract the "object" from the background (so you end up with just the animation object, no background ) for each frame placing each frame on its own layer in photoshop.
    3. save the .psd and then import the .psd into flash (make sure during import to have flash put the layers as keyframes, not layers)
    4. drag the newly created movieclip onto the stage and play.
This creates some pretty smooth 3D animation that you can interact with the movieclip.  the file gets a little large because of the sequential images but with carefull consideration of the amount of frames you need you can get by with some reasonable file sizes.  One thing I have found on some animations is that the imported .psd files in flash seem to have some jaggy edges on the individual frames.  I have corrected this problem by saving the .psd layers out to individual .png files and then importing these .png files into flash and removing the imported .psd frames, really just replacing the imported ones with the new, cleaner, .png files, kind of a pain, but worth the quality i think (you can export the layers of a .psd file under file - scripts - export layers to files), really easy.
I'm assuming your friends software can render out sequential images of his animation, render out the frames of the animation to individual frames and then apply the same process as I've outlined above.  Good luck.

  • How do I make flash animation?

how do I make flash animation for websites with Abode Flash
CS3? It will have static words with animation moving behind it.
    Example:
    http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/rescueme/#/home/
exclusive video, about the crew, and cast and crew: all have
video snippets moving when you mouse over it.

I'm sorry, but this question is sort of like: "I bought a
hammer, a saw and some wood, how do I make a rocking chair?"
First step: open Flash and hit the F1 key. This will open up
Flash's Help menu. Choose "Using Flash". Go through all the
exercises. If you're impatient and want to skip ahead (I don't
recommend it), go to the "Creating Animation" section. The
explanations and tutorials are actually very well-written and easy
    to grasp.
There is also a PDF file that comes installed with Flash
called flash_cs3_help.pdf, which contains the same material.
I could write out a paint-by-numbers tutorial for you here,
but it would be pretty similar to what's in the Flash Help
resources. Use them. Then if you get stuck on a specific detail,
feel free to ask questions at this forum and people will be more
    than happy to help.

  • Flash animation doesnt work on smart phone?

I created a flash animation for my website banner. When I open the site on my laptop it works completely fine, but it seems not to work when I browse the website using my smart phone. Is there anything I did wrong?
    Thank you!

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. If there is more than one item in the folder with the words "Flash Player" (not "flashplayer") in the name, open the respective Info windows, check the version numbers, and delete all except the latest. You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    5. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • Flash animation on TV commercial

Hi, my company is a web animation firm. One of my client
request us to produce a Flash animation for TV commercial use.
Any concern on the format as well as film dimension?
Should I convert the swf into DVD/ mpeg format or something?
Sorry that I am a rookie on TV commercial production. Thanks
    for your reply in advance.

Flash is used for entire TV series (Foster's Home for
Imaginary Friends is just one series). You can
export to AVI ir Quicktime (MOV). Just keep all animations on
the main timeline or nested in
*graphic* symbols. Don't use any actionscript at all.

  • Flash animation interactivity for autism nonprofit

I run a nonprofit that is creating an educational Flash animated video series for children with autism - we are trying to figure out the best way to composite our animation and export our videos so that we can retain the Flash interactivity and be able to play the videos across all platforms?  Should we composite in AfterEffects and export MOVs and then have the interactivity be coded in using HTML5, action script, or Javascript?  Or, is it best to keep everything in Flash and rely on an App to cross over to Apple products?  We are unfamiliar with other options and would really appreciate some help or guidance here.
Bottom line: we want to be able to stream interactive videos of our Flash animation from our website so that they are compatible across all platforms and also create DVDs, while keeping all of the content consistent.  Our interactivity consists of a few buttons that bring up different menus or result in playback.

Very hard to answer because it appears you're asking for a single development path with a huge number of vastly different mediums. You're going to need to expect to produce some of these in different ways, such as the DVD (if it's a video DVD). Flash/HTML5 won't help you there, Encore with some menu programming can do some but that is a horse of a whole different color than an actual interactive device.
While Apple devices may eventually get Flash Player support, Adobe would probably first need to start developing Flash Player for Mobile which was already abandoned on Android. I find most sites utilizing Flash no longer play on my Android device despite the player.
That leaves HTML5. While Flash can export to HTML5 it does come with limitations that you'll need to learn about.
I feel the best place to start would be with a JavaScript programmer who can feel out the capabilities and limits of Flash's CreateJS HTML5 output and weigh that against your needs to see if it's an ideal platform to base off. Otherwise the pure JavaScript/HTML5 video route is probably your best choice. There are probably regulations (such as the old Section 508 accessibility for government work) that you're up against if you accept state or federal funding which will limit your choices to only the most accessible route, especially with special needs.
In either route, due to being a bit familiar with the kinds of interactive activities you need, keeping interest via variation, video and animation are your best bet. Since DVD and universal accessibility is a target, that narrows it down to Video. So I would concur on After Effects and Premiere being used to produce the visual assets.
