Making folders in playlist and having those folders transfer to ipod

I listen to alot of live shows and for that I have made folders for each bands live shows to make it easier to scroll through my ipod. When I sync my ipod with my itunes the ipod doesn't show up with the folders like I have it in itunes. With not being able to have those folders on my ipod it takes much longer to scroll through the ipod. Especially since when my ipod is plugged into my headunit in my car I can only scroll through my music on the interface one cd at a time. Does anyone know how to get the folders to show up on the ipod and thus being able to show up that what on the interface of my headunit in my car. Thanks alot for any help.
-Kevin

Apple don't as a rule pre-announce what features will be available in software updates or much if anything about new models. The support for folders could be an option, it's a case of wait and see. In the meantime you can leave your feedback and a feature request at this link: Apple Product Feedback

How do I tranfer playlist and all my music from my Ipod Touch to my pc?

Simply select only the Music that you want to sync to the iPad in iTunes. I assume that you auto sync.
Connect the iPad to your computer and launch iTunes if it does not start on its own. Assuming that you do auto sync, let the process complete. Click on your iPad name on the left side under devices. Click on the Music Tab in the iTunes window on the right side. Click on all of the albums, playlist, artists, - whatever - that you want to sync to the iPad, uncheck the music that you do not want to sync, make sure that the Sync Music heading is selected - and then click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.

  • Exit playlist and return to all songs on iPod

I put a playlist on my iPod classic for this morning's workout. Now I'm at work and want to listen to other songs but I can't seem to "exit" the playlist. Is there a way to tell the iPod to leave the playlist without resyncing to my MacBook (which is at home)?

the hold button is off. when i return to the "music" menu, if i look at artists, albums, songs, etc. i only see the artists/albums/songs/etc in the playlist. so instead of seeing 3500 songs, i see 16. if i look under "settings", i have it on shuffle: songs and repeat: all, but it's only playing the 16 songs from the playlist. so that's what i mean about exiting the playlist... how do i tell iPod, listening to the playlist was nice and all, but i'd like to see all my music now.
hope this clarifies and thanks for any help.

  • In Disk Mode and songs won't transfer from IPod to ITunes

When I called Apple, the gentleman told me that I first needed to put my IPod into Disk Mode. I got my IPod into disk mode and thought I'd be able to transfer songs very easily, atleast it was last time. I had to reinstall ITunes and lost my Library so I thought I could just pull them off my IPod. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks!

These links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting…

MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)

Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
    iPodRip Software
    PodUtil Software
    YamiPod Software (Mac & Windows)
    PodPlus Software (Windows)
    TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
    1 - Open iTunes
    2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to manual transfer – click ‘OK’
    6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
    8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod
    10 - Click OK
-- The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
–-- This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
After recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation (and many other potential disasters).
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
-- One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
-- One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
-- One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?

  • Hide some playlists, and having difficulty retrieving them

I switched from Firefox to iTunes the other moment, and in my ADD moment triend to access history from Firefox. (I pressed Ctrl-H, or command-H for mac users) It didn't work and in my stupidity, I pressed it a few more times before realizing I was in a different program. I realized that I had lost a couple playlists. Recreating them will be impossible as they have hundreds of songs each, and I want to avoid screwing with my computer usage stuff too much.
In other programs Ctrl-H is generally a "hide" function which hides a file or other object from view. usually you press Ctrl-H again to unhide it, but in this situation the playlists are gone and there is nothing to unhide that I can see. I searched the help file, but it didn't even list a Ctrl-H function which I find odd. I found nothing else to help me, so I wondered if anyone knows how to restore my playlists.

  • Iturns encounters an error and must close during transfer to ipod

Ok it's way late for me but I've been messing with this for the past 41/2 hours. I just want my music
I had my motherboard replaced. Got the computer back and it removed my downloaded songs. Finally figured out how to get approval back after it requested that I upgrade. Now Itunes opens works fine until I try to update my ipod. Then a few moments after it starts the update it says 'Itunes had encountered an error and must close' click ok and the thing closes.
    I have done the following:
    Removed and reinstalled Itunes/Quicktime
    updated Ipod
Turned off Norton / Asked it to accept itunes
    Used Windows cleanup
    Msconfig
went to ewido.net/en/ and deleted all the malware
    Installed quick time stand alone
Restarted computer after each thing i did.
Any ideas on how to get this to work???

    Hi all,
    Thanks again for the help.
I moved the usb to the back of the computer but that still did not fix the problem. So I went to use Windows clean up but it did not list itunes. I also went to the add/remove program and asked it to delete itunes but it didn't do much but remove the option and Itunes shortcut was still there and it was still listed in program files. So I went to the actual folder on my c drive and removed it. Emptied waste basket then restarted my computer. I reinstalled Itunes from my original disk figuring I could go back to the later version. Well it still found and installed the latest version. This time It wouldn't open itunes so I reinstalled Quicktime by itself then opened it and then itunes. with both programs opened I hooked up my ipod and it updated!!! I thought I was going to have to give it up.
I'm so happy it is finally working again.
Thanks again for all the ideas.

  • My Ipod Touch won't play music.  When I click on Itunes, all it does is open the ITunes Store.  There are no playlists at all, but they show up on my computer just fine.  I have tried syncing several times, and have tried making a new playlist.

I have tried making a new playlist, and have synced it a gazillion times.  This all happened when I bought a new computer and transferred my Ipod to it...with upgraded Itunes software.  I have tried everything.

Thanks -- actually I worded the question wrong.  I was trying to find my songs icon and kept reloading Itunes to try to find it.  All I could get was the store.  I finally figured out how to reset the desktop and I got my icon back.  Thanks for your answer.

  • Smart Playlists and Track Count

Don't think this is possible - but is there anyway to access the track count field within the the smart playlist system (not the track number).
I'm tidying up my data and want a playlist which contains music without a set track count.
    D

I have a very similar set of playlists and noticed that they have stopped working recently - I assumed that the 3.0 upgrage did it. Its very annoying, and I might end up reverting to the 2.x sofware if possible, becuase that feature is more important to me than the 3.0 imprivements...
iPhones also won't let you create folders of playlists or refer to folders in playlists. I was hoping they would at last include that functionality in 3.0, but it looks like they've taken a step backwards instead.

  • Want songs on a separate playlist and than have the songs out of my regular

How do you take all the songs of a specific artist, and put them into a separate new playlist- and have those same songs OUT of my regular itunes library??

From a list of 50 suggestions previously posted to iTunes feedback
    *22. User defined "Sources"*
Create a new playlist option flag called, perhaps, "Exclusive source" or just "Source". When set this would make the playlist appear within the sources section under the built-in sources such as Music, Movies, Audiobooks etc. Any files moved into one of these playlists would not appear in any other source. Either regular or smart playlists could be used. This feature could be used, for example, to create separate library sections for Classical Music or Comedy. This would make it less likely that totally incongruous pieces would be thrown up during shuffle play modes as Shuffle would work within a source. Such user-defined sections should also be replicated to the iPod and could inherit the same sub-sections as Music, i.e. Cover Flow, Artist, Album, Genre etc.
If you don't use the Audiobooks section for it's intended purpose, single-tracked audiobooks then, from iTunes 8.0, you can easily set the kind of multiple tracks to Audiobook and use this source as a dumping area for all the files you don't want to show up in Music. I have a number of multi-tracked audiobooks for which nested playlists is the only way to make them navigable on the iPod.

  • My computer died rather rapidly so i had no chance to do a backup or anything. now i want to put itunes on my new computer but it will not sync with my ipod. i got my purchased music but not the playlists and it does not sync when i plug it in.

my computer hard drive died rather suddenly so i had no chance to do a back up or any thing. i put itunes on my new computer and got my purchased music but my ipod will not sync and i cannot get my playlists onto the computer. is there any way to get my playlists on my new computer and also get my ipod to sync. it is a waste of time to purchase new music and i do not want to purchase a new ipod since i have so much memory left on this one.

Thank you all for your replies. Here is what i ended up doing. I cannot afford any 3rd party software so i went to itunes and manually entered all my playlists. As I had indicated my purchased music was on my new computer just not the playlists  and I could not sync my ipod. After I rebuilt all my playlists I tried to restore my ipod to factory defaults/new. All of the steps called for in apple support and elsewhere were not available to me. I connected my ipod, went to my computer, right clicked my ipod, and formatted. That wiped my ipod so when I connected to itunes it then gave me a restore option. I did the restore and all is good in the empire again. I can now buy new music and sync my ipod so I am a happy camper.
    Thanks to all.

  • Cannot put songs from one ipod to the other, playlist do not show up on new ipod page

Having trouble transferring songs from my old ipod (2nd gen) to 3rd gen ipod nano. How can I save the playlists from the ipod to put on the nano?

Are the songs from the original Ipod downloaded onto the computer where you are going to add the playlist to the new Ipod?
If so, then it would be as easy as clicking the playlist and scrolling into the new Ipod.
If not, then then you may need to the computer you were using for the original Ipod to get the playlist and songs on to the new Ipod. If you have no back up of the original Ipod there is a software called Copytrans.net which will retrieve the music from the old Ipod.
