Making Greeting Cards in Pages

I am very frustrated. I am so used to Page Maker and the way it worked. I was able to make greeting cards with it. I seem to not be able to do it with Pages. In Page Maker I divided the document in two. I could print a card on the top half as well as the bottom half. I used guidelines to divide the document in half both horizontally as well as vertically. I would insert my graphic on the right side and be able to move it around where I wanted it. I would also put a text box on the right side and center that as well. For the life of me I cannot get it to do that with Pages. I divided the document in half with guidelines but cannot get my graphic to go on the right side nor can I move it around. My text goes all over the place. I cannot center it on the right side. I am so used to being able to move my graphics and text around. Is there any way I can do in Pages what I used to do in Page Maker? What am I doing wrong? I sure do miss Page Maker.

Hi Roberta,
Don't let your frustration wear you down. Pages works great for greeting cards. It seems from your discussion that you're producing either tent or book fold cards. Neither is a problem.
First for your text. I recommend using the Layout view from the view menu. then click somewhere off the page (but still in the Pages window) so that the text cursor is no longer visible. Once that is done click the Objects icon in the tool bar and select Text. You will notice that a text box shows up on your page with the cursor blinking inside. Open the Inspector and click on the third icon from the left at the top of the inspector. This is the Wrap Inspector. Click in your text box to make sure it is selected, then click "fixed on page" in the inspector. You can then move the text box anywhere on the page you wish (by dragging) and you can rotate and resize it any way you want using commands in the various inspector panels.
Inserting images is similar. Simply click on the insert menu, and click on choose. Then find the image you want and click on insert. Bingo, the image is on the page. Select the image by clicking anywhere on it and then go to the inspector and make sure "fixed on page" is selected in the Wrap Inspector.
You can do the same basic operations as many times as you like and once each object is "fixed on page" you can move it or reorient it at will. Another poster in this group advised reading the manual and practicing. I entirely agree and think you will find Pages to be rather straight forward to work with.
One other thing you may want to consider is creating a template of your cards to save time each time you want to create a new one. The manual (or help system) provides excellent guidance on template creation and saving.

  • Photoshop Element 8 Greeting Card Project Page Size?

Can someone explain why I do not see the "Page Size" option in the Greeting Card Projects Bin? Thanks.

Thanks Garry. I have done this but the print size option doesn't appear (BUT it does for other Projects but not for the Greeting Card Project). The rest of the functions on the Greeting Card Project all appear to work. The Greeting Card just comes up as 7x5 but there is no option to change this.
I am using Vista home premium. All print options/functions are working normally and i don't seem to have any other problems with Photoshop Elements.

  • Can i use avery or hallmark blank greeting cards with pages?

I would like to make my own greeting cards using commercially available cards and templates, such as avery or hallmark's products, or plain cardstock.  I'd appreciate any how-to advice on this subject,   the simpler the better.

Stick the stock in the printer.
Download the Word templates from the company's websites and open them in Pages.

  • Greeting card software for Mac?

So, I switched my parents over to a Mac Mini a month ago. They really like it, but they miss having their "Greetings Workshop" greeting card software from their old Windows computer.
So, I'm trying to find something they can use instead. I've found a couple programs, but from many years ago. Something free would be best (either downloadable or online), but they're willing to pay for one too.
    Thanks!

For freebie software, check out http://www.versiontracker.com or http://www.macupdate.com. They have search options so you can find programs that are built for making greeting cards, however nobody can guarantee those programs will work (properly). They take submissions by everyone from major corporations to teenagers who're punching out their first programming efforts. Its worth a shot to check'em out though. Beyond that, however, you can create greeting cards in various word processors, including apple's Pages. I love the program myself, but some folks havent found it to be the most intuitive. Additionally, while it has starter templates, its more of a raw "start from scratch" program.

  • Greeting card templates

I seek replacement for functionality of Easy Card, a legacy program for Apple's Motorola-chip computers. Easy Card allows you to print 1 page and fold it in fourths to produce what appears to be store-bought greeting card--cover art, inside art or text and text or art on back cover.
By contrast, templates for greeting cards in Pages print out as sheets to be folded in half and no way to add text to back of card nor to print on 1 page for the cover and inside text?
    I have not found a simple, good greeting-card program for Intel-based Mac's
Any suggestions for rendering the card in Pages or alternative application for simple greeting card production?
    Thanks.

To create a template should take no more than 5 minutes at most.
Make a dummy of the folded card out of a sheet of paper, then unfold it to act as a guide.
    1. Make a blank Layout mode document 2pp to the unfolded size
    2. Drag out 1 horizontal guide and 1 vertical guide to the centre of document dividing it into 4
    3. Make appropriate text boxes/image shapes on the 4 sections:
    +Menu > Format Advance > Define as Placeholder Text / Image+
    4. Rotate them into the correct position
    +Inspector > Metrics > Rotate+
    5. +Menu > File > Save as Template…

  • Making a greeting card in Photoshop Elements 11

    Hi
I am new to this forum and have only just purchased Photoshop Elements 11.  I was interested in making single fold greeting cards using my own photos.  I wanted to make the image fill the front page and not use the templates provided, is this possible?
    Many thanks

Sure. In the editor just create a new file the width you want and double the length (so you can fold the card) at the ppi resolution you want. Use the rulers, set a guide, or use the grid to figure out exactly where the middle is. The bottom half is the front cover. Now get out the graphics panel (window>graphics) and add backgrounds, image frames, images, graphics, text, etc.
EDIT If you want a printed inside, you'll need a second file with the same dimensions. Printing will have to be done in two passes.

  • When I print a greeting card, it comes out as 2 separate pages and not afolding card--why?d

When I try to print out a greeting card, it comes out as 2 separate sheets and not as a card that opens when unfolded.  Where am I going wrong? Thanks. Mac

Actually you can't.  When you print directly from iPhoto you will need to print to a 8 x 10 borderless paper size.  That will produce the card with a white border on each size which can be trimmed off after printing. This screen shot shows how the card will print on 8" x 10" stock:
This is because the stock size for the card is 10 x 7 and no printer supports 10 x 7 borderless printing.  These two tutorials describes how to print the card if you have a 3rd party image editor that can handle layers or have Pages from iWork: #8 - Printing a iPhoto Greeting Card and #8a - Printing a iPhoto Greeting Card to Standard Stock Sizes.

  • How do you print on the back of a greeting card in Photo Creations

I want to put pictures/text on the back of a greeting card created in Photo Creations, how do I do that?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi again, JaysMother.
Are you making print-at-home or ship-to-home cards? For Print at Home, you could make a second card that has just the front image and blank inside surfaces (use the Plain White theme). Then feed the paper through again, upside-down. Experiment with plain paper first to make sure everything's lining up the way you want.

  • IPhoto 08 makes it difficult to print greeting cards

It seems to me that it should be easier to print greeting cards yourself from iPhoto. I have tried many ways and there are no options to adjust the print size. No one makes paper the correct size, and printing on a Letter sized page doesn't work. In fact, it seems to crop the bottom of the page off even printing on a larger paper.
Has anyone had luck printing cards? The idea of ordering them seems absurd.

Yes, the card feature is designed to encourage ordering thru Apple. If you have a 3rd party image editor that handles layers, like Photoshop Elements for Mac, you can follow Tutorial #8 to print cards.
    Happy Holidays
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Problems printing Greeting Cards from iPhoto 6 and 8

I've had this problem since I tried it in iPhoto 6, and that is printing greeting cards in iPhoto doesn't work with my inkjet printer. When the first page prints, it's not centered, so when I flip the page and print page 2, they are not aligned and won't cut correctly. My Aunt is able to print cards from iPhoto but only by doing some long 20 step process of exporting them to jpgs using Preview, then printing them from some custom template in Pages. When Mr. Jobs said "Home Printing" was going to be fixed in '08, I got all excited only to see I'm having the same problems. Any one have any luck with this from inside iPhoto?

  • Setting margins for Greeting Cards and centering image

When we try and set up printing a greeting card from iPhoto 6 on a portrait card the image is always too close to the right hand edge, i.e. there is a white margin between the image and the fold - and this margin is larger than the margin on the right hand (outer) edge of the image. How can we centre the image keeping it on the right hand side of the greeting card?
We tried using a custom paper from page setup - but the custom size dropped off the menu when we went into the print menu.
    Thank you.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you have a 3rd party editor that supports layers you can print a card without any border. Look at Tutorial #8.

  • Multiple photos in greeting card

I would like to create a greeting card with a photo on the front and a photo inside. iPhoto 6 card themes do not allow this. How about iPhoto 7.1?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. iPhoto 7 has some new themes which have an array of two, three or four pics on the front page. Some have a second photo on the inside of the front page facing the text/greeting page of the card.
If you have an image editor that can handle layers like Photoshop Elements and want to print them yourself see Tutorial #8. You can add a second photo anywhere you want and even add additional text.

  • Folding paper 2x to make a greeting card

I would like to be able to see a rendering of a say 8.5" x 11" folded 2x
to be useful as a greeting card with 4 small pages. In the rendering
I need to be able to put words and graphics so that each side would appear to
to be upright while working on the details of the card. Is that possible in "Pages"?
There was an old program for mac called Cardshop if I remember correctly
that was good @ making cards.
    David

    David,
Open a blank page in landscape. Create four text boxes. Fill them with whatever content you want. Rearrange them on the page and then use the metrics panel in the inspector to flip the boxes that need to be upside down in order to print properly. Just did it with text only in the boxes without a glitch.
