Making iTunes forget what it knows about a CD

How do I make iTunes (for Mac) forget that it has ever seen a CD and everything it knows about it?
I put a CD into my iMac and iTunes popped up a window showing me the name of the CD three times, with slight variations, and I just took the default. I believe that was a mistake and I would like to make that choice over again. But I can't because iTunes remembers it has previously seen that CD. For example, it remembers the names of all the tracks. I would like it to forget all the track names and everything else it knows about that CD. How do I do that?

Thanks. I did not want to have iTunes forget all my CDs, just one of them, but your answer solved my problem. I temporarily renamed ~/Library/Preferences/CD Info.cidb and that was sufficient to make iTunes requery the database for the track names. That is what I wanted it to do, because that gave me the chance to select which online entry it read. It turned out that my original choice was okay after all; so I just put the CD Info.cidb file back.
Thanks again.

I do not think that you need to know more than the basics of Gentran, as you will have to upgrade PI, not Gentran.
Just check the Homepage of Gentran to find an overview about it:

  • What we know about Blu-Ray

I have done quite a bit of research regarding Blu-Ray on Apple (or lack thereof) and here is what I have uncovered so far.
    What I know:
The new DB+ encryption (used with commercial Blu-Ray movies) uses a new from of DRM which implements both a hardware and software decryption key to play movies (so only authorized blu-ray drives and playback software can be used to playback a blu-ray movie). Lacie's d2 Blu-ray drive is authorized to play Blu-ray movies but, so far, do to lack of support from Apple, the only way we can watch them is if we do so via Bootcamp. Furthermore Slysoft's AnyDVD HD will decrypt a Blu-Ray movie and even allow it to play on ACD graphic cards and monitors but this is also via Bootcamp since the software is Windows only. Therefore, it is currently possible to rip Blu-Ray movies in Windows and transfer them to the Mac OS. It is also possible to burn Blu-Ray (data) disks in Mac since the Lacie drive is cross-platform compatible.
What I would like to know:
Theoretically, when Apple finally does start supporting BD+ movies, the Lacie drive will have a leg up since it already has the hardware keys installed but this is pure speculation. There are two other drives I know of that are offered for the Mac Pro, one is sold by Fastmac and the other by MCE Technologies. These are both sold as 'exclusively' Mac drives.
First question, has anyone been able to find out if either of these drives are recognizable in Windows (via Bootcamp)?
Second, has anyone determined if they are capable of playing Blu-Ray movies (i.e. Do they contain the BD+ hardware keys)?
I contacted both Fastmac and MCE to ask these questions but Fastmac did not send a reply back and MCE sent a confused reply, not knowing what I meant by 'BD+ encryption key' which would leave me to believe they don't but maybe their marketing department doesn't like to talk to the engineers.
Has anyone had any experience with these devices or uncovered information I have missed?

Well, yes. All three of the afore mentioned drives will work with a Mac Pro. The Lacie drive is external so it can be used with numerous other Macs as well but the MCE and Fastmac drives plug into the Mac Pro's optical bay. So far as your HD camera is concerned, you simply import your video from the camera and Final Cut it (or whatever else you do to it) then use the newest version of Toast, which supports Blu-Ray, to burn your finished content. That will work with no issues. My concerns are focused more around which drives will work cross-platfrom (Lacie being the only confirmed drive so far) and which will be able to play encrypted Blu-Ray movies which, the Lacie, again, being the only confirmed, Mac compatable, BD+ player, even though it cannot yet play encrypted Blu-Ray movies on the Mac.
However, your movies, if you decided to go Blu-Ray, would not be encrypted and therefore would not have any issues playing on a Mac. So long as you have no concern of your Blu-Ray drive working with Windows, you can go with any of them and be just fine.

  • What EJB knows about client

    Hi,
What information about client application can I get on EJB? For example Thread name of client that called this EJB.
It will be OK even if it's server specific API. I need it for Websphere and Weblogic.
What do I need it for? We have several applications calling each other via EJB. I'd like to trace transactions across the applications. For example user calls Web server W, W calls EJB on server A and server A calls EJB on server B. I'd like to identify and trace this call on W, A and B. Of course we can add some new ID etc. But I'd like to do it without adding new fields, if it's possible.
Principal of the client will not help since server A makes it's own login to B, not per user.
    Thanks in advance.

  • What you know about this?

Well first of all hi, ok...im interested in buying the nano ipod, but i have recently read that it scratches easily and that the battery is too short( i mean the period of time that you use it).
I would apreciatte all your answers, and opinions about this. Thx.

They do scratch easily -- all iPods do. Get a case of some type. (I've ordered an Agent 18 shield for mine. Go to the Apple store for that one and others.)
Battery life is supposed to be about 14 hours between charges, right? I never listen to mine more than a few hours at a time, so no problem for me. Your mileage may vary.

  • The drop down view by menu (Song, album, etc) at the right side of the iTunes window is like a ghost. It flashes into view for a millisecond once in awhile but never lets me click on it. Anyone know what this is about and what to do?

The drop down view by menu (Song, album, etc) at the right side of the iTunes window is like a ghost. It flashes into view for a millisecond once in awhile but never lets me click on it. Anyone know what this is about and what to do?

    Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
    Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

Yes, I think most of us do understand what open source software is. It sounds as if you don't. Here's some information:
Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is available in source code form: the source code and certain other rights normally reserved forcopyright holders are provided under an open-source license that permits users to study, change, improve and at times also to distribute the software.
Open source software is very often developed in a public, collaborative manner. Open-source software is the most prominent example of open-sourcedevelopment and often compared to (technically defined) user-generated content or (legally defined) open content movements.

Yes, Tom Wu of Stanford wrote a paper on something called Secure Remote Access Protocol. It's a form of Asymetric Key Exchange and has nothing to do with hacking anything. It's actually intended to protect data.

  • What do I need to know about transfering a 4th gen touch to a new 5th gen touch?

My daughter will be getting a new 5th generation touch today. She has a 4th generation touch now. What do I need to know about transfering informaiton from one device to the other?

    See:
iOS: Transferring information from your current iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a new device
Unless you restore from an encrypted backup, y will have to reenter all password on the new device
    iTunes and encrypted backups
You can protect your backup with a passcode using the Encrypt Backup option in the Summary tab. Encrypting your backup will back up your Keychain. This way, your email account passwords, Wi-Fi passwords, and passwords that you enter into websites and some apps will be remembered when you transfer to a new device. Learn how to create and restore from a backup.
When your backup is encrypted, you'll need to enter the password when enabling or disabling encryption or when restoring from the backup.

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • Want to know about maccleaner what is this

hi may i know about maccleaner

Is it going to damage my mac?
Maybe. That depends on what you did with it. You would have to describe the problem, if you have one.
i am unable to delete it.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software.

  • My laptop had some work done on it and now my iTunes library is gone. My Nano 4 has all of my music on it and I want to sync what I have back into my iTune library. Anyone know how?

My laptop had some work done on it and now my iTunes library is gone. My Nano 4 has all of my music on it and I want to sync what I have back into my iTune library. Anyone know how?

If you purchased all of the songs through itunes store, please follow these steps:
    1. Open up Itunes and Click on Itunes Store
    2. Once you're in the Itunes Store look to right side of the screen and you should see the word "purchased". Click purchased and you'll be sent to a purchase screen.
    3. Click on "All Songs" and then it will show all the songs you've downloaded. From there you just hit the button that looks like a cloud with an arrow on it, and it will download all the songs all over again.
If you didn't purchase them through Itunes, then you'll have to download software that will strip the songs from your iPod onto your computer. And here is a guide about how to copy iPod music. Hope it helps. Feel free to email me if you need further help.

Since I signed up for iTunes match, I've got about 150 songs that I Never bought, or want. Also, I'm missing a bunch of songs that I had on my computer before iTunes match. What the heck happened?

No, I'm the only one with access to my computer. I deleted all the unwanted songs and I hope they stay deleted. I found all my original songs in another folder. How they got there, I'll never know. It took a while, but I got all my songs back in the iTunes music library where they were before I got tangled up in this iTunes Match boondoggle. Apple has a ways to go before I'll mess with it again. By the way, you have to watch out for sisters.
