Making iWeb movies friendly to windows

Here is the deal- I have been in touch recently with 4 different windows users who frequent my website. 2 of them have no trouble with the QT movies but 2 of them do. One has no video but sound and one gets nothing but the progress bar but nothing plays. Is there anything I need to do to make my movies more widows friendly? I have the same problem. I export my movies from iMovie directly into iWeb and some windows users are unable to view them.
I also have a related problem with people I work with not being able to view my site through our corporate firewall. But its stranger than that because I can view it fine on my PC, but someone on the other side of the building cannot on the same model computer. I even tried lowering their IE security setting to the minimum and the site still would not load properly on their machine(s). The problem they have is site sort of half-loads. It flashes everything up for a second (text and images) and then the "no image found" icon pops up.
Anyway, didn't mean to run off topic. Yes, I'd also like to fix the movie issue. Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I see that that file is an AVI not MOV. Not all the movies on my site are AVI's some are MOV's. (my AVI's can be opened in QT, can be edited by QT and are also able to be imported and opened in iMovie and iWeb) My question still stands, is there anything I can do to make them watchable on a Windows box? Their machines seem to have trouble with all the files- MOV or AVI. I have QT pro and am willing to mess with it to make it work better for them I just don't know how. Any further thought?

If the videos are .wmv files, VLC from VideoLAN will play them and pretty much any other media format.
BTW, we are not Apple; we're just users like yourself.

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to distribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That worked for some, but is now said to have been withdrawn by Apple. Also, you can complain bitterly here, perhaps suggesting that Apple could have provided a choice between using iCloud and burning DVDs:

Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with OS 10.7 Lion (which also omitted iWeb) or will come with OS 10.8 Mountain Lion. And it is no longer included in the iLife 11 from the online Apple Store: http://www.apple.com/ilife/. Your only solution is to look on Amazon or eBay and try to get an older version that includes iDVD.
However, the vastly more expensive FCPX can burn a DVD without iDVD or DVD Studio Pro involvement, but lack the themes etc of iDVD.

I started making a movie and all was well. I added a few more pictures and some sound and played it back. It plays so far and then the pictures break up into colors and then the screen turns green. The sound continues.

Sorry, everyone. I think I may have figured out what it was all down to...........
I had left the IDE ribbon cable plugged into my third HDD, with the power cable unplugged. I did this so as not to endanger my years of work on the third drive, until Windows had setup. I have in the past, accidentally chosen the wrong partiton to format, so this seemed a good way to avoid it from then on.
This was not a problem on my old system, but it seems this system doesn't like it.
I must have left the drive completely unplugged, the times Windows did setup. Amazing really. I couldn't see the woods for the trees.
Anyway, I'm sorry to have bothered everyone with my problem.

edit : Sorry Syar2003, I didn't see your reply until I had posted mine. Many thanks for taking the time to try and help me, it seems as though I may have sorted it now. I am using IDE drives until I can afford SATA. But many thanks for the heads-up on the NF4-SATA compliance, I'll be sure to bare that in mind.
I didn't actually check the NVRAID/IDE ROM version before updating the bios, so I have no idea if the revision was changed when Liveupdate flashed the Bios, I'm afraid. I didn't know they would be updated at the same time.

Try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

How can I move my PC (Windows 7) iTunes library (with my cps ripped) to my Mac iTunes library?

Just for my curiosity and knowledge,
I have a PC (Windows 7) and a Mac (OS X 10.10).
Both of them with the latest version of iTunes.
Both of them with the exact music library (genre, artist, album, etc).
All my music is coming from iTunes Store, so very easy to re download at any time I want with my Apple ID
My PC (Windows 7) computer has a CD/DVD drive. I would like to RIP some music from my CDs and add them to my PC (Windows 7) iTunes library.
Once I finished, how can I move my PC (Windows 7) iTunes library (with my cps ripped) to my Mac iTunes library?

If you've downloaded the media idependently to each library so far then thet won't be exactly the same as there are different naming rules for the files and folders in OS X and Windows. See Make a split library portable for some general advice. You can move a portable library between Mac and Windows, but there is a delay opening the library after each change of OS.

How can I publist my iWeb site to a Windows Server? (FTP is not an option, neither is a Linux server))

So I need to publish my iWeb site to a Windows server on a secure I can't access directly. I believe I need to export my iWeb site to a local folder on my Mac, then transfer those files to the computer that has access to the server.
I tried this earlier today with the tech in charge of the system and we had trouble getting the files uploaded.
I don't get any error messages, the new site simply doesn't show up.
Can anyone offer any help here? I know that iWeb users have had problems uploading to Windows servers, but If you know of specific work-arounds to the problems encountered, please let me know.

What ftp programme are you using to upload the site?
Also, where are the files being placed on the server - if they are not in the root folder on the server then they might not show up - (root folder could be anything from "public_html", "www", or "htdocs". This differs on all servers).
Also, when you published the site from iWeb to a local folder did you see all the files that iWeb produces - did you see firstly the Site folder, the separate index file? If you did, did you transfer this folder and file to the computer in question?
When you uploaded the site did you upload the whole site folder? If so, then you also need to upload the separate index file so that it points into the site folder - this needs to sit outside the site folder itself so that it points to the index file in the site folder.
If you don't want to upload like this, then what you can do is simply upload the contents of the site folder instead of the whole folder itself and place all the contents of the site folder - that being all the html file and the resultant css folders for each page to the server instead.

Quicktime video for .mov files on Windows 8.1 not working

I am using the latest Quicktime (v7.7.5) on a new install of Windows 8.1 and .mov files will play but only the audio works - there is no video. Clearly There is a video codec missing. Can someone at apple tell me what I need so quicktime (and other applications) can play .mov videos on Windows 8.1?

Hey Kirk, thank you for your reply. All my windows media players (Windows, Quicktime, Pinnacle Sudio, etc..all only play the audio and not the video. The quicktime player on Windows recogizes a problem and suggests that I goto this website (www.apple.com/quicktime/rescources/components......) and download missing somftware (but gives no indication of what is missing :-)).
So the Windows Quicktime Player shows that the .mov file is made with the Apple Intermediate Codec, 1308 x 736, Millions 16 bit Integer (little Indidan), Sterdo(LR), 48kHz. I also looked at the inspector in the Mac.
This is clearly the issue. I suppose I can always use my Mac to convert files to something more compatible with windows and then move these files. I just find it hard to believe that Apple does not have a windows 8.x version of this codec.

"Move To New Window" Does Not Work in Version 5. It opens a new window, but it's blank, and the tab I wanted as the new window stays where it is. Is this a bug?

Right mouse-clicking on a tab and selecting "Move To New Window" should open the contents of the tab in a new window, and then close the original tab on the original instance of FF. But in Version 5, that action simply spawns a new window that is totally blank, and the tab I wanted opened in a new window stays attached to the original window.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the ''Safe mode'' start window.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (on Mac: "Firefox > Quit")

Probably because you have the free version of Flip4MAc from Telestream that limits exported files to 30 seconds or so. There ae several paid versions – depending on your requirements
