Making mac mail the default instead of entourage

How do you make mac mail your default instead of entourage . It is set up in mac mail reader to receive mail under mac mail 2.1. It still defaults to entourage . I cannot find any place in entourage to change it .

Your default mail program is set in Mail->Preferences->General. Choose which program you want from the drop-down menu, then quit Mail and restart it.
Of course, you'd be helping yourself if you deleted Entourage or at least removed all your account information from it, so that if you ever launched it by accident, it would not be able to send or receive email.

The following comment applies to those who are switching to Mail from another email client.
In Eudora there is also a preference to set Eudora as your default emailer. In other words, not only do you need to change that pref in Mail (to "use Mail as the default emailer"), but you have to go to Eudora and change its pref to say "use [Apple] Mail as the default mailer". Otherwise you get battling email programs and unpredictable results when clicking on mailto links in other programs.
I don't remember if the same applies to Entourage or other mail clients.

Open Terminal in Utilties and copy/paste
This will send the attachment embedded inline. (This works in Snow Leopard, but not sure about Lion. Do a test first. If it doesn't work, just google "send attachment embedded + Lion." You don't actually have to send the message to see how it will appear.)

I create a lot of project folders where i keep all my conversations regarding the project. Once the project is finished i would like to just delete the folder and get rid of all the emails associated with it but when i delete the folder i've noticed that only received messages are deleted. Now I am stuck trying to sort through my sent folder for messages that were returned there after the conversations was supposedly deleted.

Mail/Preferences/Viewing - un-check include related messages, delete the folder, then go back and reset yo include.

Making Windows Media Player the default instead of iTunes

I posted this eslewhere but thought I should perhaps start a new topic - I want to make Windows Media Player the default player for WMV and WMA files instead of iTunes. How can I do this?

Select a .wmv file in the Finder.
Get Info (command-I).
Expand 'Open with' by clicking on the little triangle.
Choose 'Windows Media Player' from the list of applications.
Click 'Change All...'.
All .wmv files will now open in Windows Media Player when double-clicked.
Repeat the same process with a .wma file.

How I reset Mac Mail to default?

I've tried going into Library and deleting the Mail folder and com.apple.mail.plist, It's not working, all sorts of things are wrong with the Mail App, I only got this Mac a month ago... I'm using IMAP, nothing is wrong with the server, I asked my host, It's Mail App, I've even got Outlook for Mac, and that recieves emails fine. In Mac Mail, I'm missing a local Trash folder, next to my Inbox there's exclaimation mark and when I click on that, it says the IMAP server wishes to tell you... "STATUS: FAILED" - Once again, nothing is wrong with the IMAP server...
Could someone please suggest a way for me to reset mail to the stock default, or at least suggest to me why I am recieving "STATUS failed", or why I'm missing a trash folder??
I use MobileMe to sync my settings, could that have messed things up? I actually never managed to get them to fully sync properly, but once I solve this, that'd be all my problems solved (Yes, I know, iCloud is out, one problem at a time).
Please... Don't tell me to reinstall Mac OS X, that's out of the question, I just spent a whole day syncing all my alburms to iTunes, I'm NOT doing that again.

Thanks for trying to help, I did what you said on both my Macs, disabled MobileMe, deleted the account, and re-added it. Same results, I have no trash, and I have a little exclaimation mark next to my Inbox.
I notice that even before I add the account, no trash. I've gone into mailbox behaviours and ticked move deleted items into seperate mailbox, but there is no "seperate" mailbox. When I delete items, they just disappear...
Any ideas?

How make Mail the default for chrome

I'm switching from Gmail (web) to Mail under Mavericks but I can't see how to force Chrome to recognize Mail as the default handler.
In the handlers dialog there is an entry for webcal, but no other handlers, nor does there appear to be a way to add handlers.
I saw a command-line option for making the default handler Gmail; is there one for changing it to OS X Mail?

How would it be if I asked how to do this with NON-BETA Mavericks? It's not as though Mail is a new app.
No, it's not a new app, but a new version. Things are different/new in beta software - that is why it's called beta and that is why it is tested before release. And it is also why you can expect things not to work properly or have glitches - you're supposed to be testing it. For instance, the Mountain Lion version of Mail is 6.6 (and yours is 7.3). And, there would be differences between 10.9.2 and 10.9.3. So it functions differently - another reason why no one here can effectively help since they don't have that version.
I'm going to end this discussion before the mods decide to delete it (as they usually do with discussions about not yet publicly released software).

Can I have my new iCloud email address be the default instead of my Apple ID?

My apple ID is based on an old @mac.com account that no longer works. My new iCloud account has given me a new @me.com account but I can't use it as the default and all email going out from iPhone apps, i.e.: news articles, etc., is being sent from the @mac.com account and bouncing from the server. I can switch the "from"line so that it goes through the working account, but I have to do it every time I send something. Is there a way to permanently set the new @me.com address as the default or do I need to open a new iCloud account?

What I would like to do is change my default email address for iCloud from the old @mac.com address that does not work anymore to the new @me.com that Apple has issued me, or even a gmail account. OK I have it figured out! I was using google mail. For what ever reason the imac/pc safari using google would not display the PDF in the email even though the ipad/iphone did. I tried a different mail system through work (not google mail) and it EVERYTHING works GREAT!!!!! Wow, a lot of wasted time over something that was actually working.

Use the Startup Disk control panel (Boot Camp control panel in XP).
You should have inserted and installed the Mac OS X DVD while in Windows and run Apple Setup.exe.

Make 32 bit Photoshop CS4 the default instead of 64 bit?

It was a bit of a surprise to find that none of my 32-bit plugins would work with Photoshop CS4 x64. Most seem to work fine in the 32-bit version of PS though. Is there a way to make the 32-bit version launch by default from Bridge or when opening a PSD file instead of the 64-bit version?

I encountered this issue today as well when I installed Photoshop CS5, and discovered that my usual plugins do not work properly.
They did work properly while running in 32 bit mode.
Windows 7's extension definition sucks, that's why I rather work with the registry.
So after a bit tweaking, I think I finally cracked it.
The "Final Product" (if you will ) is two reg files for toggling 32 and 64 bit modes.
A word of caution: This is what worked on MY machine (Windows 7 64 Bit) and I cannot gurrantee it would work on other computers, nor do I take responsibility for any damage that my occur. We are playing with the Registry here, so BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL.
These codes assume Photoshop is installed in the default location. If you've altered it, make sure to modify the files accordingly first.
Before attempting to use I recommend to create a restore point, just in case something may go wrong.
Here we go:
To switch to 32 bit mode, open a blank notepad page, paste the below code and save it as "fix.reg" (NOT TXT). After saving, activate it and you're good to go.

Making an application the default program to open certain files

Hello,
I have a stupid question that has been bugging me for a long time.
I have installed parallels to use windows and when i used its office excel, it prompted me if I want to open the files with window's excel; which I did. Then now everytime I open an excel file on my mac HD, it starts parallels to launch its excel to open. I tried the option of open with "other" and select my mac's excel but this only applies on the particular file. I uninstalled parallels to avoid this problem and it still tries to locate parallel's excel which no longer exists.
So I have everytime to select the file and use the open with option which is very unpractical.
This applies for any other application so is there an effective way to change the "default" application that opens certain files? There must be a way to do that!!!!

Do the following:
1. Click once on any Excel file.
2. From the menubar select File->Get Info
3. In the "Open with" section click on the drop down menu and select the Microsoft Excel, ensuring it's the Apple Mac version that's located in your Applications folder. If it's not listed, select "other" and then navigate to the application.
4. Click on the "Change All" button and confirm.
That's it. Everytime you double click on that file type, it will open in the Application of your choice.

[AS] Making "keep overrides" the default graphic layer option for all placed graphics?

If I relink thisLink when it is missing, and update link option was set to keep overrides, everything is fine. But if it was set to application settings, I am in a world of hurt, because suddenly all my Unit numbers will show 1-32 piled on top of each other (all layers visible in Photoshop) or the wrong one (just one layer visible in Photoshop) or nothing at all!
The catch-22 is that until I relink missing links, update link option only shows "unknown" as the result. Arrrgh?

Well, I give you points for creativity! Unfortunately, relink is destructive and overwrites any info with the default (which in CS2 is application settings).
What really kills me is that InDesign has some Sooper Seekrit internal list that only the Links palette knows about. So if you *manually* try and relink the document and then revert it, it automatically relinks against all the paths you've tried since launching it and therefore, the second time all the links show as linked and the process is non-destructive, unlike the "relink" command.
Argh.
I will think on it some more though. Thanks for your input!
PS: Adobe apparently broke the ability to relink against a string in CS4 from what I can tell. In spite of the fact that the dictionary specifically lists alias or string or string (yes, says or string twice in the dictionary), only alias really seem to work.
