Making MP3 CDs (and issues with AAC files)

Hello All,
I like to burn MP3 CDs so I can play several hours worth of tunes while riding my motorcycle or in the car. I have a large collection of songs that I purchased from the iTunes store. When I burn a CD my choices are Audio, MP3 or Data. The AAC (earlier versions are protected and recent purchases are purchased AAC) won't work cause they are not MP3 files and iTunes won't allow me to make an MP3 copy. The latter only seems to work if I ripped a song from CD to AAC format. Any suggestions? I believe my CD player will also play AAC files. How can I either create a mix of MP3 and AAC files on a CD or convert purchased AAC files to MP3. Thanks for your help!

To create an MP3 CD in iTunes, you need to have a playlist of songs that are already in MP3 format. If you need to convert AAC files to MP3, simply follow these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
Note that format conversion creates a new file in MP3 format, but does not replace the file in any playlist. Make sure that the playlist you are going to burn has only MP3s in it. The best way to check is by looking at the Kind column. If Kind is not visible, enable it by going to View > View Options.

  • Making MP3 CDs from iTunes purchases.

My car can read MP3 CDs and I don't recall having this issue with the old iTunes software but it could be coincidence.
Anyway over the past several months I've been using XM since my MacBook Pro with Retina display doesn't have a CD Burner on it. Well a buddy of mine gave me his old super drive so I decided to burn an MP3 CD but I was greeted with the message, "MP3s can only be added to MP3 CDs" or something along those lines. I noticed that it was my iTunes purchased songs wouldn't convert to be added to the CD.
What's the easiest way to fix this problem?

An "MP3 CD" is really nothing more than a data CD. There's nothing special about it except that all the files on it are MP3s. Tracks purchased from the iTunes Store are not .mp3 files; they are AAC files with an extension of .m4a.
You can cross convert an AAC file to MP3, but you should be aware that you will be losing quality that may affect what you hear. Before you do this check the manual for the head unit in the car and see if it also reads AAC files. If it does you'll be able to burn a data CD with the iTunes Store purchases, no problem.
To convert AAC to MP3, in iTunes 11, open iTunes prefs > General and click Import Settings. Change the import settings to what you want them to be. OK out of the dialogs. Find the tracks you wish to convert in the iTunes Library, highlight them, right-click (or Control+click) and choose "create MP3 version." This will create a new tracks that can now be burned to an "mp3 cd."

  • When will creative labs become compatible with AAC fil

I've been using itunes to upload music and I wanted to know when creativelabs will be compatible with the itune friendly AAC files.

Time to rip this post apart.
<<I'll hand it to you for persistence, although I don't know why you CONTINUALLY try to disrupt a tech forum for Creative with pro-Apple BS.>>
Pro-Apple BS? How was pointing out that AAC is an open format pro-Apple? It's not. Don't make up things. All I did was point out that AAC is open and that it can be played on any OS, or any MPEG-4 compatible software or hardware.
<<AAC is a proprietary format. It is, as you should know, based on the audio specification for MPG4, which came out over 6 years ago. Dolby Labs controls the licensing of this format, the codec and the chips to decode and encode it. The fees are substantially higher than those for WMA, and of course, than MP3.>>
Stop getting your information from that post on Napster that I debunked MONTHS ago. I proved that wrong and you know very well that it's wrong. Anyway, Dolby does control the licensing for MPEG-4 AAC, yes. However, licensing fees are not anything like you or that Napster post said. I provided information back then, so you can go back and look for yourself, if you're still choosing to throw your money away on Napster. If licensing fees are so bad, then why are there so many freeware players that play AAC files? MPEG-4 AAC files! Why? Why can I download a FREE operating system (Linux), and use completely free software to rip and play AAC files? Exactly. iTunes is freeware you know. Why can I download it for free and rip and play AAC files? Surely Apple isn't going to front the bill for millions of people to use iTunes to just rip, organize, and play their music.
<<AAC is not the logical successor to MP3. If only WMA or AAC are considered, then WMA is the clear winner in that race. >>
How is WMA the clear winner? Besides the fact that WMA sounds noticably inferior at any bitrate.... Even HE-AAC mops the floor with WMA9 Pro at low bitrates. Anyway, how is WMA the clear winner? AAC compatible digital audio players control *90%* of the hard dri've market, 43% of the flash market, and a combined total of over *70%* of the entire market. Let's not forget that the number one online music store, which controls over 70% of the market, uses AAC as it's format of choice, and the next biggest online store behind very distant number 2 Napster is using AAC as well. Soon Napster will be launching a "music to go" rental service that targets ALL platforms. Can you guess the file format of choice? AAC
<<In fact, WMA9 Pro is under consideration for the next generation "CD" compression. This, along with DVD-A and SACD. Note there is nothing from Dolby under consideration at all. >>
hahahaha says who? Actually, since MPEG-4 is part of the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray specs, AAC is already part of the deal And, right now, SACD has the same market penetration that CD at the same point in it's lifetime. So SACD is well on it's way to becoming the "next CD". As it looks right now, SACD will become the CD format of "tomorrow", while the iTunes Music Store is handling the current "CD quality" music business just fine. As it stands though, honestly, it will be a combination of two things. SACDs for audiophiles, and iTunes-like downloads for everyone else.
Also, Dolby only handles the licensing portion of AAC. AAC was developed by a number of companies, including Sony. Sony has a stake in SACD, blu-ray, and any optical disc technology that comes out. So I can guarantee you that they will not let AAC die, even if it kills their precious atrac3/atrac3plus format.
And another thing to consider is that the recording industry wants a standard across all platforms for digtial music downloads. And considering 70% of the market is AAC compatible, and by the end of this year, a certain online music store will have passed over $b in total revenue, you can imagine which format will win.
<<Even assuming the original poster meant he wants to load non-DRM ("Fairplay") tracks on his Creative player, it will not likely happen so long as Apple is intent on blocking 3rd parties from using purchased iTunes songs on any other player.>>
What does iTunes purchased songs have to do with AAC files ripped from anyother source? Exactly. Using Apple is an excuse for companies to not support AAC. It's their loss though. If Creative would support AAC, they would have opened themselves up to the market of millions of people who do use iTunes and Real Player 0+ to rip their CDs.
<<It is unlikely Creative will spend the license money for a purpose so limited as self-ripped AAC files when there are other free alternati'ves to somebody ripping their own CD's.>>
How are AAC files limited? AAC files can be played and ripped on any platform. If you want to talk about limited, you have to look at WMA. It only works under one OS and only certain players can play it. And what free alternati'ves are there? MP3 licensing isn't free. WMA licensing isn't free. If you're selling a player for profit, you HAVE to pay for WMA and MP3 decoding capabilities.
<<AAC is a good-sounding compressed format, but for mass acceptance it will always remain a niche unless Apple opens things up and Dolby lightens up on their expesi've licensing.>>
Mass acceptance? AAC has already been accepted by the masses. Over 350 million songs sold in AAC, and 70% of the digital audio player market is AAC compatible. I think players that DON'T support AAC are currently in the niche market
<<Something good like Oog Voorbis has a better chance of becoming the successor to MP3, I think, and even that remains a niche at this point. >>
Ogg Vorbis will never replace MP3s. First off, the sound quality isn't as good as AAC. Secondly, Ogg Vorbis requires a processor with a FPU. FPU require more battery power, so battery life is affected significantly. And most importantly, there are no CONVENIENT Ogg Vorbis encoders. Not to mention Ogg Vorbis still has a lot of bugs that need worked out. They only recently worked out a bug that was causing significant high end distortion that greatly affected the sound quality of the files. Plus Ogg Vorbis has no DRM container.
Also, transcoding a file degrades the sound quality significantly.

    Set objArgs = WScript.Arguments
    For I = 0 to objArgs.Count - 1
    FullName = objArgs(I)

    set objExcelBook = objExcel.Workbooks.Open(FullName)
    objExcel.application.visible=false

I dont have the answer for your question but i have different approach in handling multiple Excel File.
Step 1. Copy a sample source Excel File and Call it Final.xls .
Step 2. Map this Final.xls to DSN and in Topology call this Final.xls
Step 3. Do the Reversing and Map and test the Interface . Once its done.
Step 4. Create a Package and using a http://odiexperts.com/?p=1426 get the list of all the Excel File
Step 5 . Using this http://odiexperts.com/?p=273 create a Loop to Read the Excel File name
Step 6 . Copy using OdiFileCopy to Final.xls and run your interface .
Step 7. Increment the Loop and copy your next File for Final and run the interface
Step 8 . Finally you will be able to read all the Excel File .
Step 9 . Delete the source file [ Optional ]
    Hope this helps.

I am having issues with Sidebar files not appearing from within InDesign CS5.5. They show up fine from other Adobe applications. Using OS10.6.8.

I would first of all trash the preference file for InDesign, make sure the application is closed then find the prefs in
/Users/USER NAME/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign and just throw the entire folder away, it will generate a new one after you launch InDesign again.
Now launch InDesign and see if the problems are resolved.
If not I would repair your permissions on your hard drive wih disk utility, and if that fails then di-install InDesign and re-install that single application.
Let me know if any of these suggestions work for you
I will be checking my email although you might have to wait for a response as I will be taking a microlight flight over the Victoria Falls tomorrow. Yay can hardly wait.

  • Issue with Sender File FCC

    Hi Experts,
I have an issue with Sender File FCC Adapter. The file being picked is of type TXT and it is tab seperated. The first line contains the field names and from next line onwards we have values for those fields.
The field names and field values are tab seperated. Even inserting a single letter in some field value manually disrupts the whole setup & alignment of the TXT file and the Sender File CC is unable to pick up the file from the shared folder. If the first file is errorenous and after that a correct TXT file is posted, it fails to pick up the correct file as it is trying to pick the errorenous file first.
    The Error thrown is :
"Conversion of file content to XML failed at position 0: java.lang.Exception: ERROR converting document line no. 2 according to structure 'ABCD':java.lang.Exception: ERROR in configuration / structure 'ABCD.': More elements in file csv structure than field names specified!"
    I have two questions:
    1. Is there a way to handle such a scenario? For e.g., the errornous TXT file gets picked but throws error in PI.
    2. Is there an alternative that the sender FCC channel picks up the correct files and filter out the errorneous ones ? ?
    Thanks,
    Arkesh

    Hi Arkesh,
I think you are passing more number of fields than expected. Please check paramters defined and send the data accordingly.
In the processing parameters tab of sender file adapter, you have an option called Archive faulty source files, below to that you would have option to enter the " Directory for Archiving files with Errors".
    I hope this helps you....
    Thanks,

  • Issues with RAW files from my 7D

I have Aperture 1.5.6 on my computer and the software updater says that is the current version. I shoot with a 20D and a 7D. I upload my raw files to Aperture and edit them from there and then process for a jpeg. However, every time I upload a raw file from my 7D I get the following message when I click on it to edit it: Unsupported Image format.
Any words of advice, other than just buy Aperture 3??

I have Aperture 2.X and had zero issues with RAW files from a 7D, so I think the problem is you are on 1.X. Converting to DNG first was a good suggestion if you don't want to purchase 3.X. Yet another reason to hate proprietary raw image file formats.......

  • Sharpening issues with RAW files

    Hi,
I have downloaded lightroom 5 as a one month trial and have been playing with the program. I am not an experienced user and are wondering if I am doing something wrong, have wrong settings applied or if it is the known sharpening bug that messes with my photos. I know that sharpening and noise reduction includes a bug that does not let you export pictures 1/3 of original size with sharpening/noise intact. However, in my case, this also happens with RAW files. I do not crop or change size/resolution to any of the photos, but the sharpening is still not working. Photos look great in develop mode, but when I click on library mode to export them, all sharpening disappears!
Is this the same bug previously reportered "only for pictures 1/3 of original size", or do I have some strange settings applied?
I was loving lightroom 5 up until I noticed this, and now I am reluctant to buy the product...
I'd be greatful if anyone has any input on this!
    Thanks in advance

  • Import of mp3 file suddenly causing sync issue with existing files. CC 2014

    Hi all,
I imported an mp3 audio file and dropped it into my comp which contained other Video (422 ProRes) files that contained audio.  When I RAM Previewed the audio for the entire comp slowed down and fell out of sync.  I can't seem to find any way to correct this.  I have tried both Comp Settings and Interpret Footage but I can't seem to find a fix.  Anyone know of (or have experienced) this issue and know of a fix? P.S. I know mp3 files are not optimal for use, but I used it anyway, and have in the past without issue.
    Thanks,
    JB

After rendering out two sequences that had the audio sync/slowing issue, it appears that this is an issue with RAM preview. The renders' audio are in sync and play at the correct speed.  The issue of the RAM preview remains.  It seems like a bug at this point.  I updated to latest (13.2) version of AE CC 2014, reopened project, RAM previewed the comp and the audio was playing correctly.  I RAM previewed again immediately again, and after a spinning beach ball, it plays back out of sync and slow again.

  • Issue with Deduplicated files and Mac OSX 10.9.2

Running a Windows 2012 R2 DFS with Deduplication enabled on the storage drives.  Both Macs and PCs regularly interact with the system with no issues.
However with Apple's rollout of 10.9.2 SMB2 'fix' users are no longer able to correctly interact with any files on the file server with the "SparseFile" attribute, which appears to be from the deduplication of the file.
When the Macs attempted to download a "sparsed" file they get an error along the lines of "you do not have permissions to copy this file".  This is annoying enough, but the biggest head ache is when a user tries to
copy a folder that has sparced files in it, the folder and its files are seemingly copied but the Mac does not copy the sparced files... and give no indication to the user that it ran into an error... Finder just closes like
    the operation was completely successful.
Even more annoyingly the user can open the file directly from the server, and work on the file with seemingly no issues, but when they save the file the changes are often not saved, and the user gets NO feedback from the application or OS.
It seems the Macs are seeing the file as having a NULL file size and they skip the file when they download it.  This was not the case in 10.9.1 or any other version of any other OS we have tested.  We have entered this as a bug to Apple
and hope they will fix it... mostly just posting this for the next admin who is pulling his hair out trying to figure this out.
For a work around you can force the Apple 10.9.2 system to use SMB1 by using the CIFS protocol to connect to the server instead of normal SMB... which is not ideal but will work for now.

    Hi,
