Making MP3 CDs from iTunes purchases.

My car can read MP3 CDs and I don't recall having this issue with the old iTunes software but it could be coincidence.
Anyway over the past several months I've been using XM since my MacBook Pro with Retina display doesn't have a CD Burner on it. Well a buddy of mine gave me his old super drive so I decided to burn an MP3 CD but I was greeted with the message, "MP3s can only be added to MP3 CDs" or something along those lines. I noticed that it was my iTunes purchased songs wouldn't convert to be added to the CD.
What's the easiest way to fix this problem?

An "MP3 CD" is really nothing more than a data CD. There's nothing special about it except that all the files on it are MP3s. Tracks purchased from the iTunes Store are not .mp3 files; they are AAC files with an extension of .m4a.
You can cross convert an AAC file to MP3, but you should be aware that you will be losing quality that may affect what you hear. Before you do this check the manual for the head unit in the car and see if it also reads AAC files. If it does you'll be able to burn a data CD with the iTunes Store purchases, no problem.
To convert AAC to MP3, in iTunes 11, open iTunes prefs > General and click Import Settings. Change the import settings to what you want them to be. OK out of the dialogs. Find the tracks you wish to convert in the iTunes Library, highlight them, right-click (or Control+click) and choose "create MP3 version." This will create a new tracks that can now be burned to an "mp3 cd."

  • MP3 CDs from iTunes on stand-alone DVD players

I was reading a couple of threads in this forum on that topic and here are my observations:
Until now I have been burning MP3 CDs in iTunes only as a backup, not for actual listening.
Recently we have purchased a rather cheap stand-alone Grundig DVD player for watching movies, it is also MP3 CD-R/DVD-R compatible. It will play any CD-R or DVD-R with MP3 files on it that has been burned in the standard ISO 9660 or Mac-Hybrid format, either on a PC or using Toast.
The player will not recognize any MP3 CD burned using iTunes 4.x or 6.x, either on an iBook G3 or a Powerbook G4. This is not due to bad or cheap media, all of those CDs show up in iTunes and play correctly. I'm using Sony CD-Rs and I haven't had a single problem with hundreds of them in the past few years. I use them mostly for data backup or for sending client's files to a print office.
If I copy the data from an iTunes MP3 CD to Toast and burn them as an MP3 CD using Toast, the CD will play fine in the DVD player.
    So, my summary:
There's definitely something wrong with the way iTunes creates an MP3 CD.
Personally, I don't care much though. If I ever "desperately" needed an MP3 CD to play in that DVD player, a copy of my backup CDs using Toast is done quickly and costs near to nothing.

  • Burned CDs from iTunes purchases play in some stereo units and not others

My car stereo has no problems playing CDs I've recently burned from itunes purchases. My wife's car stereo can't! She doesn't have an ipod dock in her 9 year old car so it's CDs or nothing. Anyone have any ideas why the discs won't play in her car but do play on every other CD player (including my PC) that we own?
Her car stereo has no issues playing other CDs, including CDs I've burned from itunes which were originally uploaded from CDs by me.
It seems to be the most recent three purchases from itunes that are the problem. Do I need to convert the AAC files back to MP3 before burning or some other clever cheat?
    Thnx in advance

Thnx for the comments Chris CA.
Yes, Audio CD is selected when I burn the CDs.

  • Making music CDS from iTunes

How do I get the songs on my CD "shuffled". When I click on shuffle, the songs will play shuffled on my computer but will not download shuffled. Please help I'm going to a party today & I am supposed to bring the music in the form of CDs but right now they are all in order of artist. Who wants to hear all the songs by each artist one after another in a row. That's just like playing the CD! Help!

I want to make party CDs. You can't make a CD from an iPad only from an apple device that has a CD burner of which that I know of is only the MacBooks & iMac. If there is a way to make a CD from an IPad??? If so please tell me how I have all the apple devices. Desk top IMac, MacBook, iPad & iPhone. I need the party CDs to play with the songs shuffled right now I have 4 party CDs with the songs all listed by artist. For example 5 Michael Jackson songs then, 5 Rihanna songs, then 5 Janet Jackson songs etcetera....I want those songs all mixed up though. I don't want them to hear 1 artist at a time. Inoperable that I am more clear now.

  • Burning cds from Itunes

Cannot burn cds from itunes purchased cds or itunes playlists

    Hi Queenv77,
Whether or not the track infomation shows up on a burned CD depends on if you are creating an Audio CD or an MP3 CD; track information is not available on audio CDs. The following articles have more information regarding burning CDs from iTunes:

I just purchase songs from ITunes...
You made a mistake already.  If you want MP3s, it is better to avoid the iTunes Store altogether, and buy songs in MP3 format (e.g. from Amazon Digital Music or other source).
But all is not lost.  First check whether your MP3 player can play songs in AAC format.  If yes, continue to next step.  If not, convert your Purchased AAC files to MP3 per this guide:
iTunes: How to convert a song to a different file format
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
Once you have them in the right format, add them to the MP3 player.  iTunes is not capable of automatically syncing a non-Apple device.  However, for most players you can connect via USB, highlight the tracks you want from iTunes, and drag them into the player.

Three issues here.  The pre-pending is useless when selecting songs to play, plus it.takes up much of the admittedly limited space in my on-screen menu.  Since it doesn't help me select a song to play, it simply prevents more relevant info from being displayed in that area.  However, there is a second area on the menu that is designed to list title, artist and album but those fields are blank - despite I-tunes inclusion of the info in the xferred files.
    JCP,
Regarding the tags, on an MP3 CD iTunes simply burns whatever is embedded in the MP3 file.  From your description, it sounds like the Onkyo is seeing the filenames but not the tags, which does seem strange.  You may want to try the question in an Onkyo forum.
If you don't need the pre-pended serial number, and don't care about the sequence, you can burn from iTunes as a data CD instead of an MP3 CD.

  • Making MP3 CDs (and issues with AAC files)

    Hello All,
I like to burn MP3 CDs so I can play several hours worth of tunes while riding my motorcycle or in the car. I have a large collection of songs that I purchased from the iTunes store. When I burn a CD my choices are Audio, MP3 or Data. The AAC (earlier versions are protected and recent purchases are purchased AAC) won't work cause they are not MP3 files and iTunes won't allow me to make an MP3 copy. The latter only seems to work if I ripped a song from CD to AAC format. Any suggestions? I believe my CD player will also play AAC files. How can I either create a mix of MP3 and AAC files on a CD or convert purchased AAC files to MP3. Thanks for your help!

To create an MP3 CD in iTunes, you need to have a playlist of songs that are already in MP3 format. If you need to convert AAC files to MP3, simply follow these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1550
Note that format conversion creates a new file in MP3 format, but does not replace the file in any playlist. Make sure that the playlist you are going to burn has only MP3s in it. The best way to check is by looking at the Kind column. If Kind is not visible, enable it by going to View > View Options.

  • Getting MP3's from itunes

I just got a new truck with an mp3 disc player in it. I wanted to take some of my music from itunes and burn a MP3 disc. When I tell itunes to burn in the mp3 format, it tells me that I don't have any mp3's. Could someone please help? I'm sure I'm doing something wrong.

No. If you want tracks in MP3 format and you've imported them from CD, then you have two choices: you can set the Importing preference to MP3 and reimport the CDs, or you can similarly set the Importing preference to MP3, select the tracks in iTunes, and choose the Convert to MP3 command under the Advanced menu. iTunes will then make duplicates of the tracks in MP3 format. Reimporting from CD will give you better quality, though depending on your playback system, you might not be able to tell the difference.
If, however, you're referring to tracks purchased from the iTunes Store, then unless they're iTunes Plus tracks (which are not copy-protected), iTunes cannot convert them to any other format other than burning to an audio CD.

  • CD burner will not burn audio cds from iTunes

I have an Iomega external CD-RW burner that has been working perfectly until now. When I try to burn a cd from a playlist in iTunes, after inserting the blank cd... it says that it is checking the playlist, then the status goes to preparing to burn... and nothing happens. The drive almost appears to be unresponsive & itunes seems to have frozen, but they don't. So I have just ejected the disk and it's blank.
I've tried resetting the computer, power, changing the location of the usb connection, different cd-rs, nothing works.
I tried burning a data cd, which was successful. I just don't understand why it won't burn an audio cd from iTunes. Is there a problem with iTunes? Because it doesn't seem to be the cd burner since it is able to burn data cds.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I think it has always been the case that for burning
CDs with iTunes, the requirement is that it is an
internal Apple CD burner and that external ones might
    or might not work.
I have used external burners in the past with no problems.

  • Moving Mp3's from iTunes to a Folder in Finder

I've copied some songs to iTunes.
    Converted them to MP3's.
How can I copy from iTunes to a folder in Finder?
The copy and paste technique doesn't work as the traditional copy and paste routine.
    Thanks

How can I copy from iTunes to a folder in Finder?
Control-click them in iTunes and choose to show them in the Finder. Everything which can be played in iTunes needs to be accessible to the Finder; iTunes won't reveal the location of rented movies.

Got this weird problem that I havent come across in any other postings. When I try and burn a cd from iTunes it completes burning apparently ok. But when I test back the cd all the track points have slipped so they're not at the start of each tune as they should be. It even cuts off a fraction of the first tune. This must corrupt the cd in a way as altho it plays okay on PC it doesnt play on my hifi cd player anymore, which it used to do. When I say used to, the only difference i can think of is that I have my itunes library on an external drive now (as you can see from my diagnostics). I burned cds fine when the library was on my c drive. Maybe this is coincidence, I dont know. If this is the problem how i can get mend it? Thanks.

If I'm guessing correctly, you've successfully burned an Audio CD. Use a program taht reads Audio CDs (iTunes, MusicMatch, Windows Media Player, etc.), and you'll be fine.

  • Song titles mixed up when downloading from iTunes purchased

I had to do an iPod restore and download some of my songs from my Purchased section on the iTunes store, however there is one album - Richard Smith's "Soulidified" - whose songs somehow got mixed up between the time I originally purchased one of the songs a few years ago and now. As such, I now have the wrong song in my Purchases library with the correct title. Can somebody direct me to how I can get this fixed because I am not paying for another track over something that I did not cause.

Can anyone help me with this?
