Making My QT movies look as good as my FCP canvases

Using footage from my Sony HDV camcorder (which records in 1440x1080 (1080/60i)), my sequences in FCP look gorgeous and truly High-Def.
But when I try to convert to a QT mov, they look terrible -- pixelated, staggered, ...
What is the best method to create a movie file with maximum resolution and quality? What are the specific settings that I need to look out for?
File size is not a constraint, as I will simply be running the QT movie on another Mac hooked up to a 46" 1080p tv. I just want a final product that is big and beautiful!
Thanks, here are the relevant specs.
Sony HDR-HC1 HDV camcorder
OSX 10.5.1
FCP 5.1.4
QT Player 7.3

select your sequence either in the browser or timeline and go to File>Export>Quicktime check self contained file. selecting just Quicktime will make your compression setting exactly the same as your sequence settings in FCP. If you use Quicktime Conversion to export then you will be adding more compression to your quicktime file.

  • Exported Movie looks good in Quicktime, but not in any other Player?

I Have noticed that the text that I have exported from After Effects were looking jagged in windows media and Kmplayer. At first I thought it was my render settings that were making it look low quality, but then I found that when played in Quicktime the movie look high rez. only problem is that quick time is extremely laggy when I open up my movies. Why is this happening?

Huh? That's simply hardware scaling. Your movie is not being viewed at 100% size.

  • Good-looking quicktime movie looks crummy once burned to dvd

Hi. I made a cool home movie in Final Cut Express; exported it into a quicktime movie - looked good when I played it in quicktime. Then I burned it to a dvd-r (about 60 minutes of footage), and when I played the dvd on my dvd player on the tv, it looked crummy?
    Any advice?
    Thanks.

All sorts of advice, but we will need more specifics to be of more help. For one, define crummy. What version of QT and OS X? How was the movie exported from FCE? iDVD expects a DV file... if you exported out of FCE using some sort of compression (other than DV ) that isn't good. What was your source material? • Why does a H264 mov looks better with FCP then with compressor

    Hi all,
I was wondering why I get better results with making .mov in FCP/ QT Conversion then with Compressor 3.
I've made a movie in FCP -(XDCam EX1080p 25 (35mb/s VBR). It must be exported to a H264 mov. 480x270. When I export it using FCP/QT Conversion it looks good.
After exporting a movie with the same settings in FCP ((XDCam EX1080p 25 (35mb/s VBR), I use it in Compressor. But after rendering it looks aliasing, even with the same settings as in FCP.
I want to work with compressor, so I can still work with FCP when I'm rendering a movie.
    Any ideas?

    does anybody know why?
In simple terms, in order to edit your footage, iMovie needs a certain amount of data about each frame.
In the compressed form stored on the all the necessary data isn't present, so the missing pieces have to be filled back in to allow you to edit. This process increases the file size.
Once you've edited your movie it can then be re-compressed.

  • Creating old silent movie look?

Hi all, i'd like to ask if premiere pro (i used premiere pro 2) or after effects can create  that old silent movie look (u know, yellowish/sepia at noon and bluish at night), and how to do it if it can, or if anybody have a link on this kind of tutorial? i'd like to make my video footage in this look. Thx very much.

Also, and I know I'm going to get flac for mentioning this, Matrox has a pretty good "Old Movie" effect.  We've got the RT.X2 card and I used the effect for some footage a client needed for a Western-themed event.  It let you control the amount of dust and scratches, the jitter effect and the grainness as well as making it pure black and white or sepia colored.
If you're looking for a free method, you can create the effect manually using After Effects, but it takes some effort.  I'm pretty sure there are some tutorials out there to show you how to do it.
    Take a look at this:

  • TV (video) output from new nano looks very good!

Just a comment for those who may be wondering how the video quality on the new iPod nano looks when output to a TV. I have one of the old iPod AV docks with the s-video port and the new nano seems to work fine with that combination (using a standard s-video cable between the dock and the TV). Thus far I'm really impressed with the video quality, I can't see a single problem, the color is good, the quality and sharpness is as good as I've seen from any iTunes Store content, and as far as I can tell the frame rate is fine (no stuttering, skipped frames, or problems with audio sync). I'm amazed that such high quality video can come from such a small device. If it continues to look this good (after viewing more content and after more testing) then I think Apple may have "hit one out of the park." This thing could turn out to be the most popular iPod yet (if you have any interested in video and still want a small device).

I just found out that the video out (TV) on the new nano supports video playlists so you can create playlists for back-to-back display on the TV. Not even the AppleTV will do that (even though the latter has been a highly requested feature for the AppleTV since day one). In fact, if you can do without the on-TV menus you may find that the nano is a better video output device than is the AppleTV (that is, the menus system on the nano doesn't appear on the TV output).
Also, I just competed a few hours of video playback to my big-screen TV from the nano and I'm still impressed. No video problems at all, looks very good considering the quality limitation from the content that is currently on the iTunes Store (limited to standard definition, no HD movies, HD TV, or HD music videos as yet).

  • Does low-res videos/movies look bad on the Retina display? (compared to a full hd display)

I'll be watching a lot of movies/series on the MBP Retina i've ordered, will low-res/480p look slightly worse than it would on a full hd display, or will it look horrible?
    Thanks!

What is a "low-res" video? It will look as good as the "low-res" is. If the video is 100px x 100px it will display 100px x 100px unless you stretch or otherwise manipulate it.
If a "low-res" video is an old 1930's grainy video it will look like a 1930's grainy video.
Maybe I did not understand your question.

  • Need a Badi to look the good issue status for prod order before good receipt in MIGO

    Hi ,
Need a Badi to look the good issue status for compoents for prod order before good receipt in MIGO.
Example : There are 10 comps need to be issued to production order to make any assy but 6 comps were issued
and remaining 4 comps are not yet issued.,in this situation if I try to do goods receipt for prod order through MIGO.,system should populate the warning
message saying still goods issue are pending for prod order.
    Please advise .
    Thanks
    Prasad

    Hi Prasad,
Before trying with a BAdI, have you tried to control this behaviour thru the Order confirmation parameters (OPK4)?
Note that you can have a termination in case of having problems in the goods movements..
Take a look of this and the SAP help:
Termination of Confirmation if Incorrect Goods Movements
Controls if the confirmation is terminated in the event of incorrect goods
    movements.
    Use
This enables you to terminate the confirmation in the event of incorrect
items, for example, to prevent postprocessing records.
    Dependencies
The indicator is only evaluated if either no process control key or one
process control key has been stored that enbles the goods movements to be posted
in dialog AND for which the "provide error handling for goods movements"
indicator is active. If there are incorrect goods movements, the system behaves
    as follows:
A log is issued that gives information on the incorrect goods movements
If these incorrect goods movements are determined by inventory management,
then the option of correcting these errors is offered in the error handling
If the correction is not successful, the confirmation is terminated
    Kind Regards,

  • DVD MOVIE LOOKS LIKE CRAP ON HD TV

    Help!
My DVD movies look horrible on my 46" Samsung 1080p LCD television. I have made DVD movies featuring still images directly in iDVD as well as from iPhoto to iMovie to iDVD.
    Many thanks.
    Kristina

Thanks for replying! I am making these movies with
high resolution still images. These same images look
amazing on the screen shown through iPhoto. Can I not
maintain this quality in a DVD movie with the same
    images?????
    No.
NTSC DVD images are 640x480 pixels AT BEST - this is only 0.3 megapixels. There is absolutely no way such DVD images will match the quality of multi-megapixel digital cameras.
See Preparing images for DVD slideshows at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/17.html for more information about using still images in iDVD slideshows.

  • Best way to simulate b&w silent movie look?

I am running iMovie 09 and want to film a silent movie.
I want it to have the same look a film from the 1920s would have.
Obviously the first step is to make it black and white.   Then you can speed it up--200% looks pretty good.
The next obvious step would be to use the "Aged Film" filter.  But you can only do one filter at a time in iMovie 09--in other words, you can't make it both black and white AND Aged Film.
So, what would you do to make an authentic looking silent film in iMovie?  Any other ideas I haven't thought of?   Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
There are two ways to make black and white photos and
I am wondering if either is better than the other.
    They are:
    1. Shot the color shot and have iphoto turn it into
    a b & w shot.
    2. Set the camera, a Canon Rebel XT, to shoot the
    photo as a B & W shot.
I have not had time to test these methods in a
methodical way. From what I have seen, when iPhoto
    converts a color shot into a b & W shot, it hasnt
looked too impressive. Sort of bland.
On the other hand, using the camera to shoot in b & w
mode seems to produce more expressive shots.
Is this what others have found? Or is iPhoto better
at converting color shots into b & w and I am just
    doing it wrong?
    Thanks,
Rereading my post (and noticing no replies) I hope I didnt come off as a jerk. When I wrote I didnt have time to do research on these methods, I meant that, I just got the camera, and am leaving for Hong Kong in 2 days. So I need advice on the best way to shoot black and white photos using the Canon Rebel. Camera or iphoto?

  • All extensions but mov look really grainy

So I am trying to export my movie as either an avi, mpg, wmv, or anything that is compatible with premiere pro (mov isn't). My problem is, while the .mov looks great in terms of resolution, any other file type looks like a cell phone quality movie. How can I get an exported movie that is compatible with premiere pro but looks good?

First of all, don't export a .mov file from LiveType.
Instead, save the project file (it has a .ipr ending) and import that into Final Cut Pro -it can be treated exactly as if it were a video file.
Do not use Export with QuickTime Conversion from FCP as it always recompresses your footage, even if you export using the same codec as your FCP Sequence uses.
Go to: File > Export > QuickTime Movie > Current Settings > Self Contained.
Use QuickTime Player or Compressor to make your .avi file from that exported movie with the compression setting as "None".

  • How do I make multiple movies look like one?

I created a demo of 136 slides with mostly screencaps and one
small flash animation. The final published flash file is
approximately 30MB. When the demo is run on multiple computers, the
CPU utilization rises up to almost 100%, this makes the demo run
very slowly on most computers. I was advised to cut my captivate
movie in half ( in slides)... however even then the CPU utilization
is quite high. How can I break my demo into multiple linked movies
(to bring down the file size) but still have it play smoothly
without it stopping to load after each new movie? How do I make
    multiple movies look like one?
    Thank you.

Would it work to make the navigation of the page go to the
    next movie?

  • New iPad 2 does not look as good as old ipad?

Just got my iPad 2 and first thing I notice is the screen does not look as good as my old iPad.  There's a difference in brightness (dimmer) but that's fine, I just increase the brightness.  However, even after adjusting to approx same level of brightness, the iPad 2 still does not look as good.  For one thing, there is a yellow cast to the iPad 2, whereas the iPad is more neutral.  Also, the iPad 2 feels like it has a haze over it.  Somehow I am very aware of looking through a screen, whereas with the iPad it's just sort of not there.  It's like there's an extra extra layer on the ipad2.  (yes I took the plastic film off, that's not it).
Am I nuts or does anyone else feel this way?

I googled iPad 2 yellow display and it looks like some people have a yellow spot near the edge due to the glue not sufficiently drying.  Mine is different; the whole screen is on the yellow side, so white isn't white but a bit yellow.  If I tilt  it and look at an angle, then white becomes white.
It is apparent you look at it side by side with an iPad 1, but maybe if I didn't have one to compare it, I wouldn't know any differently.  I don't know if this is normal for an iPad 2.
I do notice the screen feels different.  The iPad screen feels hard, like glass.  The iPad 2 screen is softer, more like plastic, which I like, except for the yellow thing.
