Making Objects Spongy and Moving Portions Around?

Howdy peeps,
I am working with an image from Google Earth Satellite and what I'm dew'n is putting Humpty Dumpty back together again (the Earth's landmass movements), where they really came from (Continental Drift Theory is wrong), but the landmasses require slicing and dicing them into pieces, moving & turning them, then squishing them back where they came from. A good example is the North East Coast of the US. Where the St. Lawrence River goes down through Quebec & Montreal, I have to separate the East Coast of the US from Canada, with the ST. Lawernce River being the separating line, pull the East Coast out without separating it from the lower end (spongy like), then take the entire Province of Quebec and part of the Ontario Province and rotate them about 90 degrees counter-clockwise without separating it from the rest of Canada (spongy like), then squish the East Coast up into the Great Lakes area. Other areas of this Rock are even worse, like the Mediterranean.
How dew I dew that easily?
TIA!
Ribbit

Welcome to the forum.
Neale & Steve have answered the big two issues in your post.
You mention Beat Markers, so I'll touch on those a bit. While you cannot "lock" a Clip to them, they do offer functionality - if you have Snap ON (toggles with the S key), as you approach one with a Clip, their will be a change in the density of the line at the Head, or Tail of the Clip, and it will want to go right to that Marker. Remember two things, shoiuld Snap become a problem, and with some fine editing movement, it can, just turn it OFF, until you are done, and then turn it back ON, with that S key - and remember the Ctrl modifier key, to temorarily turn OFF the default Ripple Edit function. I think that you will now find editing much easier.
Good luck,
Hunt

  • Canon S120 making funny sounds when moving it around (in automatic mode)

    Hi everyone,
    I have a little question for those owning the Canon S120.
    I just bought it and I noticed that my camera is making funny sounds when I move it around. Those sounds seem to occur more often when I'm in the automatic mode.  If I don't move the camera, it doesn't make any sound, but as soon as I move it, it does a little "toc-toc" sound (hard to describe, it's like the camera is adjusting something automatically when it moves).  It seems to come from inside the camera and not from outside.  I have owned my Canon cameras before and this is the first time I notice that.
    Has anyone else noticed that?
    If so, is it "normal" or have I received a defective unit?
    Thanks for your help!

    Open the MBP.  Place it on a towel so you can slide it around easily and not scratch it.  Take a #00 Phillips driver and take the bottom cover off.  3 of the screws will be longer than the rest.  Inspect the interior for anything that may be loose.
    The other option is to take it to an Apple store genius bar and have them do it.
    Ciao.

  • I get a re-play effect in my footage after re-synching and moving footage around!!!

    On the Timeline I moved some footage around and re-synched some sound and image, now when I play back in some parts of the film I see repeats of shots that are not there (like a re-play effect) and a few jitters? any ideas will be much appreciated. FCP 7.0.3 footage is a mix of Prores and XDCAM

    If it's a FCP 7 question, you need the Final Cut Studio forum. The way they rearranged the forums with the introduction of FCP X has people confused what forum to post to.

  • Drawing a rectanlge and moving it around

    Hi,
    I have a JTable in which I do drag and drop. To visually support this, I draw a marker in the JTable, when the cursor is over a valid drop position, to indicate where the object will be inserted. I do this by drawing a rectangle between two tables.
            Rectangle rect= tt1.getCellRect(row, col, true);
            Rectangle2D marker= new Rectangle2D.Double(rect.getX()-1, rect.getY(), 2, rect.getHeight());
            if (marker.equals(lastMarker)){
                return lastMarker;
            }else{
                //Line2D line= new Line2D.Double( rect.getX()-1, rect.getY()+rect.getHeight());
                tt1.repaint();
                Graphics2D g2= (Graphics2D) tt1.getGraphics();
                g2.fill(marker);
                return marker;
            }(the lastMarker is used to avoid redrawing it, if would be on the same position.)
    Now my problem is the tt1.repaint(). (tt1 is the JTable)
    This repaint always deletes my rectangle. I think, this is because the actual redraw is done after the marker is drawn. Therefore the rectangle is shown for some milliseconds and then disappears. But how can I avoid this? Any ideas?

    Don't use getGraphics for this. Trying to draw from event code doesn't work because system
    repaint events work independently of your event code, ie, system repaints call the paint
    methods of the components in the component hierarchy which have no idea that you are
    drawing markers from event code. Override the paint method (which will draw on top of the
    component) in your JTable to draw your drop marker. This way it will always be called
    during both event-initiated and system repaints.

  • Moving files around in LR5

    I have imported everything from my external hard drive in LR5 so I can access all of my photos and move them around to organize them.
    I started the organization process and moved files around in different folders via LR5 and I am happy with that.
    I then noticed when I looked at the folders that should now be empty on my hard drive (viewing via Finder) the photos that I have moved in LR5 are still where they originally were when I look at the hard drive in Finder.
    I want the organization that I did in LR5 to be exactly the same when I look at the files and folders on said hard drive in Finder.
    I hope this makes sense and I hope someone out there is able to help me.
    Thanks in advance!

    I decided to go the long way and move everything where I wanted it to be.  I moved everything around in Bridge, I then synchronized the folder to reflect how it should.  So far so good!
    Thank you all for your help and interest, I really appreciate everything!
    I do have one more question now, I will also start a new thread to see what else I can get, but again thank you!
    I have syncroniced the folder after making the changes, and due to the problem I was having last time I did it again just to double check.  It said there were over2k photos missing so I clicked sync, let it do its thing.  And just to tripple check I ran it again and it is saying the same thing, missing over 2k photos.  What does this mean?

  • Trouble selecting and moving objects near text in Adobe Illustrator? Try this.

    It's been 4 years since I left Corel DRAW for Adobe Illustrator. One thing I could never get used to is the crazy way text has an impenetrable invisible sheet over it making it hard to select objects near or behind it.
    With Corel DRAW I was used to be able to select text by simply clicking on the visible area of the text. Selecting stuff behind the text by clicking between letters or right next to a decender was never a problem. But Illustrator is a different story.
    Tonight I finally found a way to make selecting text in Illustrator behave more like Corel DRAW.
    I wrote it up here: http://www.johnstanowski.com/blog/trouble-selecting-and-moving-objects-near-text-in-adobe- illustrator-try-this/
    Just thought I'd share!

    It's not spam, but thanks for assuming.
    I was up really late writing that blog post. Posting a link was the quickest way to share and be able to go to bed.
    Plus it's rather lengthy. I thought that would be rude to use an Adobe forum for my articles.
    If you saw my blog you will have seen there's not much going on there at all, and no calls to action to hire me. I don't have anything to gain by getting traffic.
    And, yeah, layers work for selecting, but that slows you down. Who would want to look away from their work to find and select a layer when they're trying to tweak positions of objects? Layers suck for selecting quickly.
    And there must be something wrong with me but I find using Type Object Selection by Path Only by itself hard to use. I'd really just like to click on the text itself rather than an invisible hairline you have to probe to find.
    Here's the post. I hope people who had trouble like me find it helpful.
    Do you have trouble selecting objects near Point Type in Adobe Illustrator? You’ve been there. You want to select an object. Problem is, it’s really close to piece of Point Type. All too often we try to select objects that wind up being unreachable because they lie too close to a piece of Point Type, which we wind up selecting instead. Luckily, after years of angst, I discovered a solution.
    Point Type in Adobe Illustrator is funny. There’s this invisible “shield” around it. This shield is much larger (at least it seems that way) than the text itself. It prevents you from selecting objects behind text by clicking between letter and words. This shield is particularly meddlesome with lowercase letters and decenders because we think surely we can click on that blue box (or whatever) because it seems far enough away from that Point Type. But the lowercase “g” in the Point Type’s territory.
    Okay, now that we know we’re talking about the same thing, let’s move on to the solutions.
    Step 1. Check ‘Type Object Selection by Path Only’ in Preferences
    You’ll find this option in Preferences/Type. Click it and that nasty text shield goes away. But there’s a price to pay. With this option activated, the only way you can select your text is by clicking on the text path, a super, tiny, thin baseline thingy under all the letters, but above decenders. It’s really hard to grab. To do it right you need to slowly approach the text path with your cursor. When you’re right over it, Illustrator will let you know by adding a small black square to your cursor. Now, you can click, hold and move your text. But this workflow can really slow you down and break your rhythm, maybe even more so with it turned off.
    Step 2. Add the ‘Outline Object’ Effect
    Select your Point Type and, from under the Effects Menu/Path/, select Outline Object. This effect does something really sweet to text in Illustrator: it lets your Point Type objects be treated as if their were converted to Outlines. You can still edit the text, but as far as selecting it, Illustrator now considers it outlines and shapes instead of a text object. Basically, it now considers the Path of the text to be the text itself! Now, since we’ve already checked ‘Type Object Selection by Path Only’ we can now click on the text to select it. Just the text. Not the baseline, not the wacky invisible shield surrounding it.
    And now… you can select things behind the text by clicking between words and letters. And the ONLY way to select Point Type is to click on the visible parts of the text itself! Problem solved.
    Potential Problem:
    Too much of a good thing could be a bad thing. Let’s say you have some Point Type set in a very light face and it’s pretty small or you’re zoomed way out. Selecting that text could be a problem since you have to actually click on the text itself. Actually it isn’t that hard, it may just require an extra click to grab it. If you have a set of smaller, light-faced bits of text, you can elect to just not apply the Outline Object effect to these. They’ll get their ‘shield’ back and be easier to click on. And since they’re so small, they don’t pose a problem with selecting things behind them anyway.
    Applying this technique to your old files
    Now that you’ve learned this awesome new way to work around type in Illustrator, you may be anxious to open yesterday’s project and get back to work. But you may be not be looking forward to applying the Outline Object effect to each and every piece of type. For this you can use Illustrator’s “Select Same” feature. Select one piece of text. Then from the Select Menu click on Object/Text Objects. Now ALL of your text objects will be selected, and you can apply the Outline Object effect to all of them at once!
    That’s it. If you build ads or work with a lot of type in Illustrator, you’re about to be able to work a lot faster… and happier.

  • Moving selected objects up and down with keyboard is automaticly applying a colour fill.

    Hi,
    My InDesign is strangely applying a colour fill when i move an objects up or down using the directional arrow in my keyboard. If the colour pallet is open. Nudging an object up makes the pallet disappear on the first press. It then reappears on the second press while filling the object (text frame) with black. This is instensly frustrating. How can I stop this? Suggestions would be very appreciated.
    I have already reset the preferences.
    Cheers,

    Thanks for your reply.
    I fixed the problem by replacing the keyboard!

    I have to ask if you reset the prefs uing one of the methods in this thread: Replace Your Preferences If not, there's a good chance you left out one of the files, so please try again using one of the listed methods. And please tell us the OS and your version of ID, including the patch level. Obviously this is not normal behavior. It sounds as if the Swatches panel has focus when you are pressing the arrow keys.

    }My version got a tidbit more complicated, but that's besides the point. What I want to do now is mark a certain selection of the image, and move it around, place it somewhere else. Maybe even put it in the clipboard.
    Unfortunately, the internet is not helping me much with this task.
    Help would be appreciated!
    I'm fairly new to java, but I'd be willing to try to do it myself if you point me in the right direction, naturally.
    Thanks.

    Thanks.It looks like you're starting to run before being able to crawl. I'm not sure what "fairly new to Java" means in your book, but in mine, it means that you don't master the basics of Java. I recommend starting with non-GUI stuff before delving into the deep!

  • Problem with text resizing and moving

    After much pain with this issue, I'm going to ask for help.
    The whole issue(s) resolves around text upsizing, changing and moving in Muse.
    No amount of grouping, layering and locking has stopped this issue for me.
    I don't have divs that are a pixel off and whatnot. This happens even when I have a blank site and I test it (as seen in the example pic below).
    The majority of the time, this is an issue when viewing Muse created sites on Android, although text does move when viewed on iOS.
    Example 1:
    I have a square div. I put text in the div that I want to stay contained in the div. Basic right?
    View site on browsers and iOS devices it generally plays by the rules (although not always, there are some movement going on). When viewing this example text and div on an android device, the text resizes larger. This results in the text overlapping the div and moving EVERYTHING below it down. This makes it impossible to tightly design anything for a website.
    I know Android has options within it for users to set text viewing size, but this worthless from a web designer standpoint. That is something I can't control.
    Example 2:
    I have 1 text field and set the typeface to 15. There is nothing else on the page, just a background image (under "Fill"). Viewed on browsers and iOS looks fine. When viewed on Android this text balloons to some enormous size (25+) that makes the website utterly useless. This random resizing makes it impossible to design to.
    Example 2.5:
    I take that same text from example 2, copy it into 2 of the same size text fields. They are placed next to each other, taking up the same width as Example 2. It now looks like 2 columns of text. Set the typeface to 15 again. I view it on Android and get the resizing issues from example 1 not example 2. It's noting to the extent of example 2 but like example 1, it still changes enough to ruins any design I'm trying to accomplish.
    Is there any place in Muse to lock the text? I don't want to make the text into an image (obviously).
    I been dealing with this in Muse for 6 months and haven't been able to find anything online or in forums about. I understand with the bevy of platforms out there nothing will look the same across the board, but right now I don't see how I can continue working with this issue.
    Am I the only one dealing with this?
    Thank you for any assistance.

    Welcome to the annoying realities of working with text on websites... Nothing you describe is unique to Muse.
    Every browser has it's own text engine and thus each line breaks text differently. Even the exact same web page on the same computer with the same fonts will sometimes result in different line breaks in different browsers, or even in different versions of the same browser. It's just a side effect of the nature of determining a line break, where even the most miniscule difference in calculations can result in an entire word fitting, or not fitting.
    There are two "tools" that are especially important to understand and use effectively in order to create designs that work as effectively as possible with the variation in line breaks from one site viewer to the next.
    Text Frame Height Always Matters
    If a text frame is drawn to the exact height of the text wthin the frame, then any increase in the number of lines of text due to changes in line breaks will result in the text frame growing and other objects below the text frame being moved down.
    If a text frame is drawn larger than the height of the text then when line breaks change the text frame won't grow unless the changes in line breaks are severe enough to result in the flowed text being taller than the text frame was originally drawn.
    If you resize a text frame smaller than the text within the frame in Muse Design view, the frame will snap back to be large enough to accommodate the text, but a dotted horizontal line will appear within the text frame indicating the "minimum height" for the text frame. If line breaks change in the browser the text frame will grow or shrink in height down to the minimum height indicated by this dotted line.
    Careful sizing of text frames can go a long way to creating a design that will continue to work well even when line breaks, and thus text frame heights change.
    Grouping Has Consequences
    As part of the output process, Muse collections the objects you've drawn into a hierarchy of horizontal groupings, vertical groupings, or stacks. When line breaks change in different browsers and text frames change height, when the text frames are located in this output heirarchy determines what impact the change in height has on other objects (if any).
    For example, if you have a layout that looks like a 2x2 grid of text frames, by default Muse will interpret it to act as two colums. So if the first text frame gets taller it will push the text frame below it down, but won't impact the location of the two text frames in the second column.
    If that's not the behavior you want, the way to tell Muse to treat things differently would be to group the two items in the first "row". This would cause the top to to be treated as a horizontal group. If anything in the group grows taller than the group, the group resizes taller and pushes the objects below it down. Thus if the top to items are grouped, if either one of them grows taller than the group it would push both the text frames below downward.
    The 2x2 grid is just a simple example of the concept. In most cases you don't have to do anything special to get the behavior you want, but it is important to understand grouping has this ramification. Grouping an arbitrary set of objects on your page can result in undesired behavior when text frames resize in the browser.
    For the Andriod screenshot you've provided, I don't have an immediate explanation. For us to explain what's shown we need to know the exact browser, browser version, Android version and device the screenshot is for. It would also be immensely helpful to have the URL for the page, so we can attempt to reproduce what you're seeing and view the exact code involved.

  • Problems moving files around in finder

    Does anyone else have the same problem I do when moving files around in finder. It almost always says you do not have sufficient access privileges and each time I have to go to the destination folder info box and change access permissions. It is now getting really annoying. At work I can not copy files off my laptop to the network as again it says I do not have permission though if I log on from a machine using tiger I can move the files easily. Moving files to my Lacie drive causes the same problem. If anyone out there has and easy fix or explanation I would be grateful

  • Finder hangs when moving files around in Flash Drive

    Hello Apple Community! I just wanted to ask a question and a solution to my experience on OS X.
    Recently, I started to experience Finder hanging on me when I move around files from in and out my flash drive.
    What's happening in the picture was me trying to move the ebook into the 'cmpsci3' folder, but Finder hangs from the point.
    I moved the Finder window and the icon just stays there.
    There is nothing really wrong with the movement of files; the moving does work. The problem is that the small file operations
    window disappeared and Finder just hangs there.
    I tried two solutions already:
         1. Remove the com.apple.Finder.plist file from ~/Library/Preferences
         2. Repair disk permissions on both OS X drive and USB03FD (my flash drive).
    Unlucky for me, the problem isn't fixed. I tried to tackle the problem myself and sometimes I see two Finder processes running
    in the Force Quit Applications dialog. I followed the instructions from this threadTwo Instances of Finder Running, but that does
    not work either.
    I looked around and saw that making a new user would fix the problem. I would like the community's advice on how to fix this problem
    before I do anything drastic.
    Thanks for reading and helping me out!

    I decided to go the long way and move everything where I wanted it to be.  I moved everything around in Bridge, I then synchronized the folder to reflect how it should.  So far so good!
    Thank you all for your help and interest, I really appreciate everything!

  • Questions on ADF View Objects, Links and Iterators

    I have a number of questions regarding using ViewObjects in applications where there are alot of relationships between tables.
    First, lets say that I have ViewObject SomeView that was added to the App Module (AM) as VO1. And because it has a number of "detail" records that have to be iterated through in a "report like" view it has those other VO's added under it as "children" in the AM.
    So I have
    VO1 (an instance of SomeView)
    --> VO2 (an instance of some other view)
    --> VO3 (an instance of some other view)
    that is used on pages where only a single VO1 is shown at a time.
    Now because I had another page I wanted to make that had a listing of all SomeView objects. Some of the fields in SomeView are foreign keys to records in VO2 and VO3 and while I don't want to show all the fields from VO2 and VO3, I do want to show a name field from each rather than just the foreign key.
    My experience (though I've never read this anywhere) tells me that when doing a "table" that is a list of rows from a VO, you can't display info from the child VO's because the child VO's are on whatever record corresponds to the "currentRow" in the parent VO and just displaying the rows in a rangeSet doesn't make each the "currentRow" so even we display 10 records in a for loop, the "currentRow" is just one, and the child VO's iterators aren't moved as we go through the for loop. (Can someone confirm if I am correct on this conclusion????)
    So the only way I know of to show some field from a related table in each row is to make the VO have the entity objects from the related tables be part of the view as references. Is this the only way?
    If I do that on a view that didn't have other views as children defined in the AM I don't have any problem and it works like I want.
    But if I do it on a view that did have other views as children defined in the AM it makes the page(s) using that view with the children iterators behave badly. Half the information quits showing up, etc.
    For example, ... if I go to the "SomeView" which was defined with only one entity object association, and I add the entity objects (that are the basis of instances of VO2 and VO3 ) as referenceable only, it totally breaks the page where I display a single VO1 and use it's VO2 and VO3 children. IS THIS NORMAL OR AM I MISSING SOMETHING?
    So, is the solution that I have to have more view objects defined for different purposes ?
    Can anyone give any general guidelines for when/where to use different view objects vs. when to use different iterators. I'm not having much luck with using secondary RSI's and haven't found much info on them.
    Also, how about issues of naming iterators that are in various binding containers (ie. UI Model for a page). If I do and LOV it creates an iterator and gives it a default name like ViewNameIterator1. If I already have a different page that uses a regular (non LOV) iterator with that name, and the user goes back and forth between those pages, is that a clash?
    Finally, I've read a couple of Steve Muench's blogs on View Link consistency but I'm not sure what the rules are on when it applies and doesn't. How you turn it on or off, etc. One of his examples in http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/2004/02/27.html talks about it in the context of two view objects that are NOT typically "linked" in a master/detail kind of way. Like an AllDepartments and a DepartmentsLessThan view. Do you have to create a View Link between them to have results of one be reflected in the other if they aren't used in the same page in a web app? Or does it happen automatically (with the caveat that you have to do the rowQualifies method). Just feels like I'm missing some pieces.
    Thanks in advance,
    Lynn

    Hi,
    I am also interested in a best-practice note from oracle.
    Currently we store history in seperate history tables for columns that changed. All this implemented in our BaseEoImpl overriding the EntityImpl.prepareForDML().
    Thanks

  • BP change documents ( linking problem between Object id and Business Partner)

    Hi,
    We need to create a report for documents changed for a Business partner.
    This will be done in sap bw.
    on source side I have created the datasource with function module changedocument_read and I am getting most of the information
    which I want. Only missing part is Business Partner number.
    Can somebody suggest , how I would be able to link Object Id to business partner.
    I need to pull everything that is changed at BP level and the Object class selection around 30 in number.
    So I am looking for any standard function module which can provide me the link between Object id and Business partner.
    If I establish the rules to determine the Business partner from Object id , its getting bit difficult.
    Can somebody please help/suggest.
    I have gone through many documents and scn posts but unable to find anything on this.
    Thanks !

    Hi, looking at the change history header table CDHDR it seems that object ID simple equals the internal format of the business partner number.

    i don't have any experience with DLNA TV's but i recently moved my iTunes library to a NAS. streaming content to airport express remote speakers and TV2 works great. however, i have all my gear hardwired to my time capsule (except the airport express) so i'm not sure how well streaming e.g. HD movies to TV over wifi works.
    i have a Synology DiskStation 411j and am very happy with it.
