Making Optimal Videos for Vimeo

Just curious if any other folk use Vimeo and what video settings you use in Adobe to give optimal performance on Vimeo.
Also, I get the following error uploading to Vimeo:
"This video's datarate is only 2688kbps, which is lower than what we recommend and means your video might not look as nice as it should. For HD video, we suggest you use a higher datarate, typically 5000kbps"
I have 9.0 and use HD 720p 30, but I don't seen ay options in there for setting the datarate?
Anybody know where this can be found, or what it's even for?  ;-)
Thanks!

  • How to make 500MB videos for Vimeo

    Hi,
When I have my Final Cut projects completed and exported in best quality, they are QuickTime mov files (H.264, 1080p/59.94fps).
Now what do I have to do to get H.264 720p/29.97fps versions which are not larger than 500MB for free Vimeo accounts?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks for your answers.
I've already read the information at http://vimeo.com/help/compression
But we have some videos which are about 13 minutes. Now I would like to have their quality as good as possible within this 500MB limit.
(I know an earlier version of Handbrake let you specify the target file size, but that version made other problems (artefacts).)
BTW I don't have "Compressor" because I didn't need it. Could I specify a target size via "Compressor"?
Or is there another App for that purpose?

  • Converting NTSC SD video for Vimeo

Using a quad core AMD with 4 GB RAM and XP sp2. Production Prem CS3
I have some SD (PAR .9) footage that I want to convert to upload to Vimeo.
This is supposed to be 640x480 deinterlaced encoded as H.264. I just watched Jeff Bellune's tutorials on changing SD to Film Look and have tried to follow Dan Isaac's excellent thoughts on this
I was wondering if the same method (similar to DVtoFillm) could be used to create the downsized and deinterlaced footage (.avi) which I could then encode in AME to H.264.
Being a rookie at any coding, would the scripts have to be rewritten, etc?
Or would some other way be better ie creating a custom project size in Premiere and resizing the SD footage after importing into the 640x480 project.
    Thanks in advance.
    John Rich

The transcode to the H.264 format at the 640x480 includes the downsize
    for all practical purposes.

I can not view ANY videos on Vimeo, I have 'reset' the Ipad, original IOS 5, cleared the history and cookies, I haves changed the DNs number to 8.8.8.8, I have worked on this for 3 days now, HELP!!!!

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

You would need an image editor to edit the images and add a border to the image first before importing them into Final Cut.

  • Problems exporting HD video from Premiere Elements 9 for Vimeo (program crashes or video is blurry)

I have a 10 minute wedding video I am trying to export from Adobe Premiere Elements 9 to upload to vimeo. I followed the directions from this video: Exporting for upload to Vimeo with Adobe Premiere Elements on Vimeo to figure how to accomplish this. The first time I followed the directions, the resulting video file was fuzzy and blurry, not at all like the HD video I could view in the program before export. Since then, I've tried exporting it multiple times with different settings, and each time the program crashes when the video is around 95% complete. How can I rectify this situation? This is a wedding video I made for a paying customer who would like their video on vimeo as soon as possible.
    Thanks for your help!

What are the properties of what you are putting on the Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 Timeline? Are you working with a SD or HD file?
What have you set as the project preset when you started the projec?
    1. So, video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio...as
much information as you can supply....sometimes the brand, model, settings of the camera recording the video will give us all the
information that you need to set up the project correctly or to verify that it has been set up correctly.
    Case Study....
Let us assume that your video is 1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second.
Project Preset in New Project Dialog
    NTSC
    DSLR
    1080p
    DSLR 1080p30@ 29.97
When you go to take your Timeline content to Vimeo from within the Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1 feature
Share/Online, you will discover that there is no Vimeo choice in that version.
So, what you are going to do is to export your Timeline to a file (AVCHD.mp4) saved to your computer hard drive and then upload that file
to Vimeo at the Vimeo website.
    Share
    Computer
    AVCHD
    with Presets = MP4 H.264 1920 x 1080p30
Have you been there and done that?
    Summary...
The answers are in the details....needed
    a. properties of source media
    b. project preset
    c. details of your project's Timeline content
    c. export settings used

I'm making a DVD for our class reunion.  A fellow classmate has some video on a mini cassette that he said he could put on a dvd.  Will I be able to import from that dvd to imovie to use in my dvd?  Or does it have to be in another format, maybe flash drive?

Ask your friend to supply you the DVD as a data DVD using either DV or AIC as the video format, burning the DVD as a DVD for a DVD player will degrade the video quality.

Unfortunately the answer to your question is ... No. you cant make the built in music App work the same way that is does on the iPhone. I have no clue why Apple decided to do it this way but they did.
I don't use any of them, but there are other Music apps available for the iPad. You may want to look into one of those. Here are a few of them. You can search for more.

  • Optimal Video Settings for Projectors

    Hi Guys,
Really need your help on this one. My goal is to find the
optimal video format, data-rate and frame-rate to import 2-3 min
video pieces into director. I have the latest versions of Director
    and Sorensen.
The projector size is 1000 x 700 pixels to be distributed on
    dvd.
The original video files are mixed formats. I have some 640 x
425 AVI CAD movies, some DV movies at NTSC resolution and some 720
x 540 QTVR files converted to .avi.
The file types I am testing at the moment are SWF and
QUICKTIME .MOV, with mixed results on different systems. The best
results so far are from converting to SWF at 2500 kbps with 25 fps
keeping original size. I am then stretching the movies in director
    to fit 1000 x 670.
Ideally I would like each movie to play back at a setting of
1000 x 670 inside the projector, so that I can add movie controls
at the bottom of the projector.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? Am I doing
something wrong here or is this the reality of using Director for
what I am trying to acheive. I seem to be spending hours trying
various formats and data-rates but with very average performance.

...doesn't really sound like a Lingo question but maybe
    someone can help.

  • Making music videos, QuickTime Pro likes to pause for a second.

I'm making music videos, and some times at the start of the video, or where I add other video to the .mov file, the video likes to pause for 1/4th to a second, then the video like jerks forward to where it should be, while the audio is playing the way it should.
Is there any way to keep this from occuring?
    Example (3 megs.)

Your data rate for the video is 4.5 times of what it should be (9240 kbits/s). Try using 2000 kbits/s for the video data rate.
Here are some other factors that can make the video sluggest along with the above:
    1) The dimensions of the video is 849x406. The height and width of the video should be divisible by, 16 for best... or 8 for better... or 4 for good. This can effect the encoding (always does) or playback of the video.
    Here read this article: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flash/apps/flvbitrate_calculator/videosizes.html
Even tho the above article is for Flash it also applies to h.264.
    2) The audio is mp3, this isn't h.264 complient. AAC audio is... I would change the audio encoding to AAC.
    3) And lastly...what program did you use to encode this video with?
I'm glade you supplied a short video. Most people don't. See if next time you can supply at least ten seconds. Thirty second would be the bomb!
I took your video and copy/pasted it to lengthen it to 13 seconds. Encoded with Apple's Compressor...h.264....2000 kbits/s...audio ACC 128 kbits/s... dimensions 848x400
    http://www.setfreedenver.org/DemoA/pause_demoA.html
There still is some jerkiness. This is inherent from the footage you supplied.

  • I have been looking for a solution for making my videos capable of playing on anything such as: DVD player, Mac, PC, etc.

I have been looking for a solution for making my videos capable of playing on anything such as: DVD player, Mac, PC, etc. I have not found a format that will play with all of these. Is there a format, software, or do you encode it? I am new to production. I can make a video and make it work for a certain thing just not all.

There is no such thing as universal format and that is that. You are looking for the magic pearl that doesn't exist and rather than waste your time on a futile search, it would be better to actually read up on the various formats and their limitations, including how playback devices may or may not support this and that.
