Making Personal Ringtones

I have QuickTime Pro and have created m4a's from MP3's so that I can download from internet to my phone in the past. Here's the process I go through and where I'm having problems... I click on file and then 'export' from QuickTime. Then I pick the song I've already condensed and previously saved to my desktop. I then select "Movie to MPEG-4". After that I go to the 'options' page and click on the drop down menu so that I can pick 'audio' not video. After I do this new options present themselves but they are all greyed out and untouchable (these options are Audio Format, Data Rate, Channels, Output Sample Rate, and Encoding Quality). I know what I want all of these options to be, but I can't click on them... Can anyone help me out?!

Hi roope70,
Thanks for your feedback.
While I can see how you would ask why these limitations in general it seems safe to assume a ringtone will sound for less than 40 seconds before you pick up, so having longer ringtones would not have any practical use and the track(s) would only take up additional space.
Creating a ringtone is very easy, you can use the free app 'Ringtone Factory' to select and cut the section you want to use. Besides this app you will find many similar apps in Marketplace.
Hope this helps,

  • Personal Ringtones Bug in Nokia C5

    HI!
I had my C5 spontaneously rebooted, while using a Google maps.
After that all my personal ringtones disappeared, and more than that: even the option to apply a personal ringtone (an MP3 file, for example) for any contact - has gone!!!
And the hard reset followed by firmware update - didn't resolve that: only standard melodies are available, while the MP3-s are seen in "Gallery" and played as usual.
Did someone meet this bug? Any options how to fix it?
    Thanks!

    you must have duplicate contacts
select one memory to use not both
go to contacts then select options then memory in use ,select phone then assign the tone by going to the contact then select options then add detail..
If  i have helped at all a click on the white star below would be nice thanks.

  • Using personalized ringtones. Please help.

Hello all.  I am new to Palm and this forum.  A week ago I purchased a Palm Pre Plus from Verizon.  I have the updated 1.4 version installed as well.
My question is this:  I have set up ringtones for specific callers.  I also have set a song for "incoming calls" (i.e. unknown callers that are not personalized).  How do I use the personalized ringtones that I have for individuals?  I have looked and looked for a week (since I bought the phone) for an answer to this question, to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated.  Thank you.

What does play for a contact that you have set a specific song from your /Sounds/Ringtones folder?
How about a caller without a specific song set? Or an unknown caller, what plays then?
When you set the individual and global ringtones, are you able to preview them by tapping the play button to the right of the file name? After previewing, did you tap on the name of the ringtone to change the setting?
There are no extra steps to take other than assigning a ringtone either globally, individually or both. The individual settings will override the global ones for contacts where it is set. If it's not set, the global setting will remain.

  • Cant see the buy button in itunes when making a ringtone???

When I am in iTunes, making a ringtone, the bottom right portion of my iTunes screen cuts off at the button that says "Ca" - I cant see or get to the right of that button (which I assume says cancel) and I am unable to create ringtones for my iPhone. I have tried everything from resizing the window to uninstalling iTunes and reinstalling. It is always the same and very frustrating. Can anyone help?

    Try increasing your screen resolution.

  • 5230 not showing personal ringtones (not enough me...

    Hi
I already wrote this to Nokia support but did not get an answer.
I have a 5230 with the latest SW 40.x.  55 Mbyte free phone ram and over 1 GByte on the sd-card.
I have 3 (yes, three!) personal ringtones on the sd-card. One (1,5 MByte) is used as the standard ringtone, another one (20 KByte) for incoming SMS. They both work. Now I made a third one (225 KByte) and wanted to assign this one to a contact. When opening the list of the available ringtones the phone complains something like "Not enough memory to show all ringtones. Showing only ringtones of the write-protected memory. At first it shows only the internal ringtones, along with two videos (Brache.mp4 and whoop.mp4). When I quit the list and directly open it again, it also shows the personal ringtones I have copied to the phone memory. But as the phone memory is not that big, I want to save the personal ringtones on the sd-card.
I don't understand why there is a "memory error" as there are 55 MByte free on the phone.
    Any idea?
    Regards
    AF

  • Can't sync personal ringtone from iTunes to iPhone 6 plus

    Hi
I have created a personal ringtone , a 20 sec clip. I saved it as an arc and renamed it to .M4R
I added it to iTunes which correctly put it in the tones folder. I connected my iPhone - checked the sync tones option /all
    and hit sync.
The ringtone refuses to come across.
I am using iOS 8.1 and iTunes v12.0.1.26
    any help would be great
    thanks

    Hello,
I just discovered something yesterday as I was having the exact problems. Here are some questions that I'll ask with my comments next to them.
    1. Did you burn CDs onto your computer's hard-drive? If so, your iTunes will treat these files differently than if you had used iTunes or downloaded an .mp3. There are quite a few different formats which can be played on your iTunes or iPhone. They are: .mp3, .wav, .m4a, and more . I have no problems with the .mp3 format, but I do have problems with the other formats. I believe that you would have to convert your format of your song from, let's say, a .m4a to a .aac. Then, I delete the .m4a format to avoid redundancies.
This was my biggest issue, and I hate it. It's very cumbersome. I hate iTunes, in general.

  • Personal ringtones gone after ios8 and cannot re-sync them back to phone

I recently upgraded to the ios8 and had to restore the phone from the backup. Now my personal ringtones aren't on the phone, nor can I manually sync them! HELP

Unfortunately you have to convert Mp3 to M4r to work now.  Spent 2 hours to figure this out.
    See below !!!
Apple® iTunes® can also be used to convert an MP3 to M4R but the process is a little involved and the directions might be slightly different depending on the version. In general, the imported MP3 must be first converted to the AAC format (which is essentially the same as M4P), then manually renamed from an MP4 to an M4R file.
To use iTunes® to convert an MP3 files to M4R, add the MP3 file to your iTunes® Library.  Right-click on the file once more, and choose "Create ACC version" from the popup menu. (This will only appear if you select under iTunes Preferences > General > Import Settings > Import Using AAC Encoder
    on a MAC:
Now navigate to the folder where iTunes® has saved this file (or Right Click and Show in Finder ).  It should have created 3-4 different versions there.. Mp3, m4a and M4r.  Select the M4r version and drag over to TONES in iTunes...now sync your phone with iTunes
    On a PC
Now navigate to the folder where iTunes® has saved this file (or Right Click and Show in Finder ).  Use the computer’s Search feature to find the file name, or look in the default Music folder, then inside the iTunes® folder. Scroll down until you find the saved file, which will be an M4A file.
Drag the file to the Desktop (a copy will be generated), then go into iTunes® and delete the original file. The Desktop copy will remain.
Return to the Desktop and rename the ringtone file with an M4R extension. If you cannot see file extensions, go to Folder Options (via Control Panel) and under the View tab, uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types" and try again. Once the file has been successfully renamed, click on it and iTunes® will import it into the Ringtones folder. Synch your iPhone® to upload the ringer.

  • Upgrading to 4.3 detaches personal ringtones

Every time I upgrade IOS a small irritant is that it detaches the personal ringtones I have assigned to about eight of my contacts.
Not a big deal to re-attach them - but it seems nuts that this happens - wish they would fix it.
    Anyone else notice this issue?

I just upgraded to 4.3.1. My ringtones remained attached to contacts this time. I also noticed that it took MUCH less time with the previous update.
Anyone know if this is due to something I did? Regardless of the reason why, I'm pleased it didn't happen with this update.

  • My personal ringtones are on my iPhone 5, they are attached to the correct phone numbers and play correctly when I test them on each contact.  But when I receive a call instead of the proper ringtone, it plays the generic.  What Am I not doing right?

You may have to try deleting all the music from your phone (by going to Settings>General>Usage>Music, swipping All Music and tapping Delete), then sync it all back on with iTunes in order to fix this.

  • Personal Ringtones No Longer Work

My personal ringtones do not play since updating to 7, I have check at each contact but when I recieve a call the ringtone is a default one. how do I correct this

Connect iPhone to computer iTunes, de-select ringtones, sync, select ringtones, sync again.

  • After updating to iOS5 my personal ringtones will not synch.

not sure why my personal ringtones will not synch with 3GS iphone after upgrading to iOS5. The ringtones are still shown in iTunes. But NO personal ringtones shown on phone.

Do you have the settings to sync the ringtones automtically or manually? If manual, then you have to drag them from your ringtones list in iTunes onto your iPhone icon.

  • Contacts and Personal Ringtones not working correctly.

I have an iPhone 3G with the latest OS. Since I have upgraded to the latest OS, I have had problems with my contacts when I receive incoming calls. On some of my contacts, I will not see the assigned photo or hear the assigned personal tone, it instead shows the wallpaper and plays the default ringtone. But on other contacts I will see the correct photo and hear the assigned tone. The same contacts are affected by this so it is not randomly changing which contacts are affected. I have checked my sync options and I can see the info in my google contacts and I have completed a hard reset. Nothing I have been able to find in the forums has helped so far. Any ideas?

When your iPhone is plugged into iTunes, go to the Ringtones tab and make sure the radio button is checked that will synch all ringtones. Synch your phone and they should be back.
    Hope this helps.

  • Making Lumia ringtones

To start off, the 40 second / 1 MB limit is ridiculous. Whoever decided on it, should be fired. How can Lumia play songs that are longer than that but enforces the limitation on ringtones?
Anyway, how can I make ringtones. I've read everything, and it seems to boil down to
    (1) learn to use a professional sound editor, edit your music, produce the song in MP3 or WAV format of the appropriate sound quality,  and after all this...)
    2) switch the Genre to "ringtone". Simple!
I'm having a bit of problems with step 1 here. Could somebody please provide a simple walkthrough here with an application?
Given the ridiculous ringtone length and filesize limitations, why does Nokia not provide a ringtone maker? You would simply choose the sound file and say "Save copy as a ringtone", at which point the file would be cut to 40 seconds maximum and saved in a compatible format of the maximum allowed size, and the Genre would be automatically set to "Ringtone". Would this make too much sense?
Maybe Nokia just wants us all to revert back to Nokia Tune for our ringtones after all this personalised nonsense. Needless to say, given this one limitation - which I would never have thought of before buying this Lumia 900 - and the fact that music is a big part of my personality, the Lumia 900 is a useless piece of junk that will embarrass me every time it starts playing one of its standard ringtones.
