Making Photoshop Default?

Windows Live has usurped my default, how do I return Photoshop to default image editor?

You need to re-estabish the file association.
In Windows, right click a picture file in one of your folders
In the context menu, go to open with, and look for "choose default program"
Select Photoshop Elements
tick "always use selected program...."

  • Making Photoshop default application to open RAW images

    Situation:
I had to reload Photoshop to resolve some problems.
    Problem:
Now, when I highlight a RAW file and then right click to open it, Photoshop does not appear after I click <Open with>. Other options appear, but Photoshop does not.
    Although:
I can click <Other>, and with a few more clicks, open in Photoshop. Also, when I click <Get info> for a RAW file and the info window opens, I am able to change the opening application for that particular file to Photoshop.
    The bigger problem:
While in the Info window, I have attempted to change "Open With" to Photoshop as default for all files ending with the RAW extension, but it does not take. "Not applicable" appears in the application window after I click <Continue>, which is the final step in making a specific application the default application to open the file type in question. "Read and Write" permissions are in place.
    What I'd like to do:
Make Photoshop appear as the Default Application to open RAW files when I right click on the RAW file.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Quoted: Also, when I click <Get info> for a RAW file and the info window opens, I am able to change the opening application for that particular file to Photoshop.
When you have selected Photoshop there, then you have to press the button "Change All...". Now every RAW file will be opened in Photoshop.
If Photoshop has not been listed there you can go with the "Other..." option in the drop down menu and select Photoshop from the application folder.
Quoted: Make Photoshop appear as the Default Application to open RAW files when I right click on the RAW file.
You know you can also open file's just by clicking twice with the normal left mouse key? If you have set Photoshop as Default (like described above) then it will also open in Photoshop.
Hopefully this is helpfull or solved your problem. (see button's above this message)

  • What is "Photoshop Default Size" ?

    File > New.
The first preset option is: "Default Photoshop Size"
I'm curious to know what's the basis of the specification for this? I get a really odd size of 454 x 340 pixels.

It does. Maybe it's the size of Thomas Knoll's right hand, or something...
Remember that Photoshop and/or its predecessor started out as a Macintosh application.  At the time, the venerable Macintosh Plus and previous Macs had a 9-inch 512×384 pixel monochrome display with a resolution of 72 PPI. That ratio works out to 1.33:1.
"Photoshop Default", at 454 x 340 px, also maintains a 1.33:1 aspect ratio, and it  sounds like a good window size to fit in such a display comfortably, with some room left over for other window components and tools (menu bar, scroll bars, etc.).
    Coincidence?

  • Making Photoshop the Default

Ok, here's the thing. I am graphic designer for a firm where I live and I loaded Corel's Paint Shop Pro on my computer since one of the guys here uses that mostly (why I don't know). Anyways I prefer Photoshop, hands down, so I want to make it my default Graphics editor/image viewer (Paint Shop Pro changed it to its program during install). Can someone please walk me through this!!! I am sure I have to edit the registry, but I don't know where!
    ~Greg

Sounds like you are talking windows. (registry comment) Right click on the file you want Photoshop to open. Select open with in the menu and then Choose Program... Select Photoshop and make sure you check the 'Always use the selected program...' check box. Photoshop should now open those files by default. You will have to do this for all the file types you want Photoshop to open. It is a registry entry but this is much easier then messing with the magic registry!

  • Help with making photoshop the default program to open pictures.

I subscribe to Adobe Creative Cloud and use Photoshop the most. I of course want all my pictures to have Photoshop as the default application to open them but I can't get it to work.  When I go to "open with" to change to photoshop it doesn't automatically show up as one of my options so I go to "browse" and find it under program files, adobe, Photoshop cc but when I click on it and accept it won't keep it.  It keeps going back to a different program.  I can't change to default to acrobat or other programs, just not Photoshop.  What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you.

  • Where are the Photoshop 'default' textures?

Hi, I'm trying to complete a PS tutorial about making historical styled typography.  The tutorial is online at  www.tutorialhero.com.  The tutorial uses two textures which are 'DIRT' and  'ROCKWALL'  which it refers to as being found in,  "Default Photoshop Textures".  I can't find any 'default textures' and I've tried HELP and looked around on the web.  Are there any Default Textures in CS5 ? Anybody any ideas please?

You can use a pattern fill layer and select the Rock Patterns from the
    flyout menu.

  • Photoshop CC extension with invalid signature and Photoshop default installed extensions cannot be loaded

I have a Creative Cloud subscription for Photoshop CC. All Creative Clouds products are updated to the latest versions. When I tried to install Tony Kuyper's TKActionv3 Photoshop extension using the Adobe Extension Manager CC on my PC desktop, I received an error message the extension contained an invalid signature and wouldn't be installed. I had previously installed the extension on my laptop without any problems. At the same time, I also noticed the default installed Photoshop CC extensions (e.g., Adobe Exchange, Kuler, Mini Bridge, Behance) could not be loaded using the Windows/Extension command. I receive an error message that the command could not be completed because the extension could not be loaded. After contacting Tony Kuyper, he suggested that I try the steps mentioned in the following weblink: https://forums.adobe.com/message/6029768. The steps basically consist of uninstalling and reinstalling all the Creative Cloud apps associated with Photoshop CC. I tried the steps multiple times, but I am still having the same problems. I can find the default installed Photoshop CC extensions on my machine, so I don't know why they can't be loaded.
I posted this question in the Extension Manager group. Should I also post it in the Adobe Photoshop group?
    Thanks for your assistance,
    Mark Curtis

    Zhihong,
I received your e-mail with the questions below. I answered some of your questions: answers in red and underlined. In addition to posting in the forum, I also replied to your e-mail address, but the message was returned as undeliverable. What e-mail address should I use for sending you the log files.
    Thanks,
    Mark
    Hi Mark,
Here is a workaround to make the extension display again:
You can bypass the check for extension signature by editing the CSXS preference properties file, located at:
    • Win: regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe/CSXS.5
    • Mac: /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.CSXS.5.plist
Add a new entry “PlayerDebugMode” of type "string" with the value of "1". And then restart Photoshop and try again. Please let us know if this work around can work.
And could you please help to offer following information for us to find the root cause? Thanks:
    1. Which PS version are you using? On what platform, Windows or Mac OS? Photoshop CC (64-Bit) 14.2.1 x64, Windows 7 Ultimate (64-Bit)
    2. The extension cannot be loaded since when? 5/25/2014
    3. What is the version of imslib.dll/.framework and PlugPlugOwl.dll/.framework? It locates at path like “C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (64 Bit)”. 7.0.0.145, 4.2.0.36
    4. Can you get the CSXS log and send it to us? Please add a “LogLevel” key with value “6” in registry (PS should be restarted for the log level change to take effect):
    • Win: regedit > HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe/CSXS.5
    • Mac: /Users/USERNAME/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.CSXS.5.plist
Then restart PS and the log file will be generated at:
    • Win: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Temp\csxs5-PHSP.log
    • Mac: /Users/USERNAME/Library/Logs/CSXS/csxs5-PHSP.log
    Thanks!

  • Brush (cursor) lag making Photoshop unrealistic option for use?

    Hello forum,
I am making the move from traditional media to using the computer for generating art.  I purchased CS4 because my first machine didn't have 64 bit support.  One of the behaviors in the Photoshop application that had me suspend any further study with it was the nasty brush lag as I moved either my mouse OR my pen (I have a Wacom Cintiq) while 'painting'.
I've search diligently online for answers, read the forum posts, even called support.  The best they could offer was deleting the application cache data on my Windows XP machine.  I suppose that helped a bit, but it still proved quite laggy.
Understanding a bit about how computers work, I know processor power, GPU power and memory, and system memory can have big effects on improvement.  So I purchased the Toshiba Qosmio with an i7 quad core processor, 4 GB of fast system RAM, and a great nVidia graphic card with 1GB of memory.  This new machine is Windows 7, so I was delighted I could use the CS4 64 Bit version of Photoshop!
Surely this machine would tear it up, right?  Nope, same issue.  For example, if I take my pen (or mouse) and test the painting of a stroke diagonally across the screen, I will see anything from a fraction of a second delay to nearly 2 seconds of delay, after which the brush stroke 'appears' along the expected path, depending on how fast I drag my brush and how long the path is.
So now when I paint my brush strokes have to be short, slow strokes because the behavior of the application is requiring it if I want to see my strokes right away.
Now I'm not an digital artist, not yet, so I don't have an expectation on whether this is expected behavior or not.  I can't imagine it is, could it?  When I used GIMP for a few months, I don't remember ever seeing this kind of lag on the mouse cursor.
I want to stay in the world of Photoshop for my digital art study; nearly all of my study materials make use of it for tutorials and examples.  But I have to find out what's going on with this first.  Right?

The performance you're seeing is not normal, and certainly not acceptable.
The thing that seems to be constant across your different systems is the Wacom tablet.  I have no tablet myself, as my uses of Photoshop are serviced fine by the mouse, and everything is instantaneous.
I have been reading posts in this forum on and off about the 64 bit drivers for the Wacom not being solid...  Maybe someone else more knowledgeable in tablet operations can volunteer more info on the status of that.
Also, I have read that having the "Adobe AIR" panel open can cause lag and slowness.
Just some things to think about.
    Best of luck.

  • How to make photoshop default opening images

I have Bridge CC when I double click to open a image in photoshop it opens in windows photo viewer intsted,.and photopshop is not in the File / open with /

    Hi;
Id, Ai, and Ps file types are associated correctly in Bridge CC and work fine, however, JPGs don't. When I click on the file thumbnail I get the following:
I no longer have Ps C5; all my apps are now CC.
I'd like to associate JPGs in Bridge CC to default to Windows Photo Viewer (that seems to work just fine, otherwise), but I cannot manually re-asscociate the JPG file types in Bridge CC because when selecting to choose the program in "Browse" (to set it to Windows Photo Viewer) the WPV folder is empty—go figure!! I don't get it.
Anyone have any ideas how to correct this?
    Thanks.

  • Making Preview default PDF application

I had to install Adobe Reader to be able to view a document a while back. For some reason it wouldn't open in Preview. Unfortunately, when I installed it Adobe Reader became the default PDF application.
How do I go back to making the Preview the default PDF application?

Find and highlight a PDF file in the Finder. Click cmd-i to open Get Info.
Go to "Open With", and change the associated application from Adobe Reader to Preview. Click "Change All" to make this change for all PDF files.
You should see the file's icon change from Adobe to Preview to confirm this.

  • Elements overlaid Photoshop default file types -- Easy way to correct other than reinstalling?

Hi. So I could teach others, I installed PhotoShop Elements. I use PhotoShop CS5 normally. Unfortunately, Elements became the default for a number of file types, e.g. brushes when installing new ones. Is there an easy way to reset the appropriate internal file types back to Photoshop other than reinstalling it or figuring out which ones only apply to Elements and then changing them in the Control Panel by hand?  Using Windows 7.

Not an easy way, but also not a hard one. Either use Windows file type management panel in the control panel or right-click a file, select "Open with....", then select Photoshop and make sure the check mark is set for "Always open...". Do this for all file type you regularly use in PS.

  • AFTER MAKING OPERA DEFAULT BROWSER FIREFIX CAN'T ACCESS INTERNET

I have used Firefox for my browser for several years but decided to try Opera. After making Opera my default browser Firefox cannot seem to establish a network connection. Is Opera responsible? Is it not possible to use two different browsers?

hi NeilCoy, this shouldn't be related to opera. normally such issues are caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions and there has just been an update during the last few days. please try to remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall and let it detect the new version of the browser again.
