Making quicktimes un-downloadable

Is it possible, using compressor, to export quicktimes that are disabled for download?
If not, how can I accomplish this?

I will use the trailer videos for an example. It is the same for all the tutorials and videos spots on Apples web site. Apple doesn't use reference videos. And you don't need Quicktime Pro when saving a video from a browser window.
First off you need to let the video fully download before you can save it. I picked at random the movie "New York, I love You" from the trailer section. Under standard pick the large movie. The video will open in the middle of the browser. After the video downloads, right click on the video and a contextual menu will open or use the triangle in the controls. The top save is, SAVE AS A SOUCE, this makes a reference video. The SAVE AS A QUICKTIME MOVIE setting is the full video in all it's megabit glory. Next open the 740p video in the Quicktime Player. After the video fully downloads go to the menu-->file-->SAVE/SAVE AS, a save to window will open. The top option is, Save as a self-contain movie, the full size video. And the second option is, Save as a reference movie, this is a small reference video.
Lastly... Why would anyone want to make a reference video from the web? So you can download a small KB video without having to save a large megabit video to watch either in the Quicktime Player or at a later time. And if you want to save the full size video after watching it you still can save it as a self-contain video.
Footnote: Years ago when saving a video from the Quicktime Player. The save option were switched and the default setting was to save as a reference video. As you can see it was easy to make a reference video out of haste when you really wanted a self-contain video. What a pain in the tush...

  • Can a Quicktime file download from clickable link?

Quicktime file download to desktop from clickable link?
I have large movies that I want to make available for direct download to the desktop so people will click download and do something else.
It is my understanding that you can't provide a quicktime file for download to a desktop because there are PC/MAC and browser issues across platform. But maybe I'm wrong.
Is it possible to make a web page that allows users to download higher file size videos from a clickable link? The quicktimes are h.264 in SD + HD around 50-100 megs. The files will be so large people won't want to wait so I want it to go directly to the desktop.
So far I can only find a few similar options
    1) Embed the file in a web page. Provide a download link after the movie loads.
(This option requires you to load the file into the page. Users may not wait and close it)
    2) Provide a zip file. This allows you to create a clickable link to the zip which begins downloading upon clicking. You then unzip the file. (Some less computer savvy people may get confused by the zip)
    3) Put a raw file on server. This will play the movie in a blank window but can also be right clicked for direct download.

    Welcome to the discussions, jessestudio.
I've seen a few sites that have a link to the video with instructions to "Right-click to download". Essentially, it's option three with instructions. It seems to be a fairly common way of handling it. (Even for non-QuickTime movies)

  • Error prompts after Quicktime compatibility download

Because I am using apps from the new iLife 08, I downloaded both MAC OS 10.4.10 along with the Quicktime Compatibility download on my G5 dual 2.0GHz MAC. Now Quiktime Pro 7.2 will not record. I get the following error prompt when I try to record either audio or video: The operation could not be completed due to an unknown error. (INSError 'Mac OS error 2003332927' Domain =NSOSStatusErrorDomain Code=2003332927)"
I've zapped my PRAM, run a correction on all my permissions, removed preference files from both libraries and checked my hardware and I get the same error code. I know it's not a hardware problem since Final Cut Pro and iMovie HD still can capture video fine from the two different video capture devices I use. Also a nearly identical MAC that has not been updated has none of these problems. Does anyone have a clue what these error codes are pointing to? Or are my Quicktime options dead until Apple comes up with another compatibility update?

"I downloaded both MAC OS 10.4.10 along with the Quicktime Compatibility download on my G5 dual 2.0GHz MAC."
I am assuming by your last posting that *DW was unable to repair?*
Just in case QT is not the culprit since you also downloaded an OS at the same time, suggest you cross-post in one of the iLife Forums.
*Just a thought:* Are you sure you meet all iLife 8 system (hardware & software) requirements?
    Good Luck!

Yes! As long as you don't delete your project files/library, you'll be fine.  When you install the full version, it might create a new library, go to your movies folder or wherever your current library is and just double click it to open it.

The current version being sold is 10.1. It is substantially different from your trial version. Read here to get started with the new version

  • Quicktime only downloaded a bit of the trailer

When I tried to view a quicktime trailer, example: a HD 480p(36MB) trailer, it could only download the first 8 secs. When I try to view the trailer smaller in size, example standard medium, it could download 27 secs. And when I try to view standard small, it could download 48 secs of the small trailer. I've already change the Quicktime settings > Advance > Cache from 100MB to 313MB, but the results are exactly the same. Pls help.

  • Help With Quicktime Update Download Issue?....No DMG format? Only Windows?

I just got the new Final Cut Studio updates, but when I tried to install them for FCS 2, it asks for the 7.3 Quicktime? When I went to the Support section for downloads and tried to download for OS X, its only gave me the option to download for Windows XP? or Vista? I need a link to one of the proper pages to download the QT DMG 7.3, please help? Thank You Tim C.

Apple uses a "browser detect" to determine what type of OS is being used and redirects to that version download page. If you're using Windows to visit you'll only see the Windows download.

  • Making Quicktime the default viewer for .wmv files.

Whenever I try to open a .wmv file, my default program is iphoto. I have Flip4Mac and I want to use Quicktime to be the default viewer for it. I know how I can get each file to open with Quicktime, but I want it to be permanent. For instance, I download a .wmv file and I want to double click the new file on my desktop and Quicktime comes up so I can view the video. I figure this is a very simple thing to do, I just don't know where to change it. Please help. Thank you.

I find that this does not work- pilot error I'm sure.
When I right click on a .wmv file and chose "Get Info", a small window appears that has a section titled "Open With".It defaults to "Windows Media Player" and has a drop down window, offering me a choice of "Other..."
When I select "Other" a window opens that lets me chose an application. I select Quick Time Player and hit "Add". QT then populates the drop down window. I then select "Change ALL" which causes another window to open that asks "Are you sure you want all your Windows Media Player documents to open with the application Quick Time Player?". I answer "Continue" and as soon as I do that Windows Media Player is replaced in the Get Info window as the "Open With" choice.
I can't see how to make the change. Help!!

okay, I first tried to download the new itunes 6 and quicktime 7.03 package yesterday and always(after about 5 times) when I tried to open itunes, an error message came up saying that itunes needs quicktime 7.03 to run. I thought i already downloaded it. so i did some searching in my files and i tried to delete quicktime and itunes together from my computer and then download it again. i couldnt delete quicktime until i went into safe mode and i deleted it. then, i tried downloading the itunes/quicktime package again but the only thing that downloaded was itunes. now, itunes wont open, quicktime doesnt even install, and when i try calling for support from my pc manufacturer they expect me to pay 259 dollars for it to be fixed! can anybody help me out?

  • HELP! quicktime cant download mp3 file

Hello all i really need help. Before i had a old version of iTunes and quicktime and i was able to download audio files from this website by clicking on the audio file link - then a little box would come up asking me whether i wanted to open or save the audio file (i could nominate where to save it to on my laptop) and then i'd click save to download the audio file.
Recently ive been connecting my iPod touch so i downloaded the new version of iTunes and quicktime and suddenly i can't download the audio files anymore - it just goes ahead and plays it on the webpage. Someone told me to go to Quicktime settings --> quicktime player settings --> browser and untick the box that plays videos automatically (the audio files that i have been accessing sort of come up like a video except there's no movie to it) but it still doesn't work. Can someone please tell me what other settings i need to fix up?
now when i want to download the audio files, i actually have to delete Quicktime first..and then download quicktime again so i can actually listen to the audio files in iTunes!
    Thank you so much!!

Right click on the file. Open in a new tab if doesn't offer to save. Then in the new window click on File and Save As. It worked for me. I got the answer by searching Quicktime mp3 in the search discussions box on the right. (it's tagged as "Quicktime download"

  • Quicktime cannot download to startmenu directory.  Anyone know a fix?

I am using windows 7 32 bit. I can download the installer, but during the actual installation. The directory under C:programdata\microsoft\windows\startmenu it cannot download too. I've tried download managers/different internet browsers/ and tried running as an administrator. Does anyone know how to get around this?

The only fix I know right now for Windows users is QuickTime 7.7.1

  • Making Quicktime Prefs stick across OD Accounts

    OK,
    so here is the scenario:
Quicktime 7.13's "enable flash" checkbox bug
caused all of our elem grade Flash based software
    to stop working properly.
I went into the Admin account on one of 80 macs
managed by OD. I set the QT prefs to have the
checkbox enabled, and then closed out of the
Quicktime Prefs pane. I then went and made a copy of
that QT Prefs file, and copied down into
    System/Library/User Template/English.local/Library/Prefs/
making sure to change back from admin to system before closing out
the Info panel, and then rebooted the machine.
Logged in as a newly created user, and the pref does stick.
But log in as a legacy OD user, and the pref does not stick,
    it shows to be disabled.
What should I try next to get this pref to stick for all OD users
    when they log in?
All Macs run 10.4.8, QT 7.13.
    Server is OSX Tiger Server.

    Answered my own question.
Here are the steps to fix this issue:
#1. Go log into the SERVER as admin.
#2. Set the "Enable Flash" setting in QT PREF Pane,
close out of the pref pane.
#3 Log out a admin, log back in as admin.
#4 Make a copy of the admin's QT prefs, place on desktop.
    #5 Go into System/Library/Usr Templates/English.lproj/Library/Prefernces/
ON THE SERVER, and copy into the Preferences folder that copy of
the admin's QT Prefs you placed on the desktop earlier.
#6 Close out all windows, making sure to reset all prefs on files
    and folders to system ownership.
Go to a client and test. If the setting doesn't stick on the managed
    user account, then:
#1 Login to the machine as admin.
#2 Search for Managed Accounts folder, trash all contents of this folder.
#3 empty trash, then logout as admin
#4 log in as managed user account. Should apply now.

  • Im trying to use itunes and it keeps saying i need quicktime when downloading it stops install and reports error and to go to windows/installer/quicktime.msi

Im trying to download itunes it says i need quicktime that keeps coming up with error saying to go to c;/windows/installer/quicktime.msi what does this mean

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?

  • Exporting for Quicktime - progressive downloads -Help

I cant seem to export a QT mov that will progressively download on a webserver. In CS3 options I have played with the autoplay, streaming server, compress header settings etc. I am embedding it in an html page (using dreamweaver) Whatever I try, the webpage waits until it has fully loaded before it starts to play. Any ideas?

Don't use the QuickTime container, at least not from Premiere Pro. It seems to have the problems you're experiencing. Instead, use the "H.264" format option in the Media Encoder. You'll wind up with an H.264 file with an MP4 extension that will play back in QuickTime. I often use these for sending roughs to clients, as all you need to do is upload the .MP4 file to your web server, and email them a URL to the file. There's no need to build a player and embed it into a web page, as QT has a built-in browser module that will automatically playback in your browser window. Best of all, the file won't need to completely download before playing back--it will cache a few seconds worth of video and then start playing right away.
Another benefit of MP4 is that it can also be played back in Flash Player, so you can have a lot more flexibility with the format than QuickTime provides.
