Making random calls...

Hi,
My new phone seems to like calling people randomly.
I use it exactly the same as the previous iphones I've owned locking it with the botton at the top. It's usually in a griffin wallet style case supplied by 02.
At first I thought maybe I hadn't locked it and had pressed the screen accidently but after dozens of random calls I don't think so...
Anyone else having similar issues? Could it be the phone unlocks itself?
Thanks
John

Hi,
I'm having the same problem. I went into an apple store and we figured out how to turn off the voice dial. You can only turn it off if you have a passcode lock on it(Mine however doesn't actually turn off so I can't tell you if that's on all phones or my particular phone is glitched).
To turn it off go to General Settings > Passcode Lock > Enter your password (or create one) > Voice Dial should be the 5th option down and just turn it off. Hopefully it will work in your case, I on the other hand have to make another trip to Apple.

  • Brand new 5c making random calls and sending emails while locked

my husband's brand new 2 day old 5c is making random calls, facetime calls and sending emails while locked and not in use.  i have read that this is an ongoing issue, but have not seen a solution for it.  any suggestions?

if you search "random calls" there are several threads, one of which started in 2010.  i will try turning off voice dial and hope that solves the issue.  will report back tomorrow with an update.
    thanks!

  • IPhone4 making random calls when locked

The first that I knew about my iPhone4 making random calls was when I received a call from someone I hadn't spoken to (or tried to ring) for at least 2 years.  He said that I had called him.  I disagreed as my iPhone had been in my pocket for some time.  I had the screen locked (locks automatically after 1 minute and needs a passcode to unlock it).  I had not touched my iPhone for several minutes AT LEAST and had not even looked at this person's details in my Contacts for at least 12 months.  I checked my Contacts to see whether his details were showing as having been recently viewed in Contacts - no they had not.
I keep my phone updated, usually updating to new software within a day or so of a notification.  The software was up to date.  That was about a month ago.  In the last few days my phone started making voice dialled calls to random numbers while in my pocket.  Again the screen was locked and I only became aware of the problem due to the phone "speaking".  Again, the phone was locked and hadn't been used for some times.  It still needs a passcode to unlock it.  I turned the phone off and restarted it after it had been off for about 20 minutes.  Shortly after that it made another random call.
I used to work for a Telco and I always disbelieved customers who said that they had not mt made calls that they had been charged for.  Now I'm starting to wonder...
Yesterday my iPhone (again keypad locked and in my pocket) started playing music.  I could not get it to stop or even unlock my keypad.  I had to shut it down completely.
    Help please.

My phone is making random calls. anyone know why?

        Hi Lmferry,
Sorry to hear that your phone is making random calls. Let's get that issue resolved. It is recommended that you add a lock code to your device to prevent it from making random calls. Please go to Settings> Location and Security> Set Up Screen Lock.

  • Skype making random calls I don't make

    Hi,
skype is making calls to my contacts when we are both online, but these calls were not place by me, skype is randomly and independently doing this. Does this happen to anybody else?! This is crazy, and it is beginning to happen so frequently that it is causing real problems. Is there someone that can help, any advice?
I'm using Windows 7, skype version 6.6.0.106, I have multiple antivirus software programs each which is run several times per week, and there are no programs accessing skype (nothing under Manage API Access Control settings).
Sorry if I've posted in the wrong area, I'm new to the sommunity. Thanks for any advice!

I've got the same problem, along with multiple people on my friends list. We're all getting random calls from each other, each with different past dates, none of which were ever actually made. (As in the calls were sent from the past... and we just got notified. The dates calls were made to me so far have been Sept 25, 29, and Oct 1)
I can also say that none of us have touched suspicious links like the one you mentioned for the 'lol is this your pic?' virus.
In the tools->advanced->manage other programs there is nothing listed, so I doubt that a program being there is the issue.
Daily virus/malware/spyware scans are also performed on each of our computers, with nothing significant ever being picked up.
We are all running Windows, and I know at least two of us are running the newest version of Skype.
And it really isn't a big deal since it doesn't seem to be causing any harm, but it would still be nice for it to stop affecting people ^^ So hopefully we can get this checked~

  • 4s making random calls (beware of what you talk)

Got this sexy looking black 4s, played with siri etc and today I get a call from my friend who tells me I called him 5 times in the last 15 mins. I was shocked. When I checked my call history I didn't place a call from the morning. I thought it might be a bug with the phone itself and then checked my atnt to see it something triggers the calls, was disappointed to find that the calls didnt show up in my calls made history with atnt. This is so crappy to find out from your friend that he heard all your personal talks. Had to switch it off before it called him back again. If phones like 4s do such things this can really be a downside for Apple specially if it happens with confidentially sensitive discussions, not sure if its the provider or the phone itself. Phone has already acted up weird with the VoiceoOver being enabed and locking me into the blind man's world. Did an facetime and the phone was cooking. Is it for real that black iphones heat up more then white iphones?. Anyone else seeing these similar issues, would be surprised if its just one iphone outta 4 million+ sold that has these issues.

I have the same issue.  I was out shopping the other day and my phone called my boyfriend 22 times.  Today it called him 5.  This is ridiculous!

  • Random calls since iOS4 update

My phone keeps making random calls since I ran the iOS4 update. It made a call at 4:15 this morning, and it was sitting on the nightstand plugged in to the charger. I was asleep, and nowhere near it to initiate the call. I got a call back, wondering what was wrong that I called so early, and didn't talk when the call was answered.
Any ideas on what the problem is with random calling on 3GS?

I've noticed this too, and can't figure out how to get it to stop, though I might have just figured it out.  I think it might be the Mail app, which grabs my Gmail.  In Settings>Notifications Center>Mail, I found that a 'New Mail Sound' was set as a default to be a 'quick vibration'.  I've turned Vibration to 'None'.  I can't be sure this is it yet, but fingers crossed.

  • Random calls

My wifes I - phone 5 has started making random calls to people in her contact list. The phone is 14 months old ( out of warranty).

That's strange, dougjak. Did this start happening after a particular application was installed? Has she recently put on a new case or screen protector? Please go to Settings>General>About and make sure your phone shows Version 7.1.1 (11D201). If not, make sure to update your wife's phone using the steps at http://vz.to/1otp00h.

  • TS3406 Problem with iPhone 5 making/receiving random calls ("butt dials")

My wife and I have iPhone 5's.  Since last Friday, my phone has made and received random phone calls ("butt dials") including FaceTime calls.  My wife's phone has even called itself.  The only common denominator is that the person making the random call has an iPhone.
My phone and my wife's phone have the latest software (7.1.2) and we had the batteries changed under warranty through Apple last Friday.  Any ideas?

    Hi becausewemust,
It sounds like you have sound issues with your iPhone only when using it as a phone, not at other times, is that correct? And you have already tried resetting the phone by turning it off and on. A very frustrating situation to be sure. Let’s see if we can get you up and running.
At this point I would suggest restoring the iPhone as a new device. See the steps in this article -

  • Iphone shuts down when making a call

Please help my iphone shuts down when making a call restored and set to new phone but still shuts down after 2 to 3 mins  HELP

I'm having exactly the same issue with my iphone, and same specs. It's a new work phone so discussed with IT manager. She advised returning it so it could be sent back for repair. Would be interested if you have heard of any other fixes as not keen to be without the phone, although that needs to weighed against the fact it randomly shuts down when a call comes in!

  • About making a call

My BB 8900 could not make a call! All are working except on making a call.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • While making a call or answering a call the speaker automatically on

while making a call or answering a call the speaker is  automatically on?can u suggest remidy

The iPhone is designed to have the screen go dark during a phone call, since the phone is normally up to your ear and you would not want to be touching the screen with your ear and possibly touching random buttons. This is done by the proximity sensor, which is located near the ear speaker on the phone. When you are reaching to turn on the speaker, it is possible that you are crossing this sensor light and it turns off the screen. I have done this before. If you try reaching from the bottom of the screen, does this still happen? Try to keep your hand away from the top front portion of the phone and see if that helps.

  • Droid routinely places random calls

I'm at a loss for words. My Droid will just call people from my call log or actually just Contacts. It's placed random calls while I've been surfing, in the middle of the night as it sits locked, or if I've just finished with a call and placed it on the table.
I went into a VZW the other day, and they reset the thing. It's still doing it.
    What do I do?
I've searched enough on the internet to know this is a problem with the phone itself, and not 'flukish' to my phone. I don't want to replace this thing with another problem Droid.
I want out of this phone, and I want a different smart phone all together. There is NO user behavior here causing this. I am not using some after-market cord. This is happening anywhere, whenever. Plugged into VZW chargers or not.
    Anybody else experiencing this issue?

I don't know if this will help or not, but my phone has never done this in 17 months. When I finish making a call, I am careful to click end and then exit to the home page. Then, I blacken the screen before putting the phone back in my pocket, on a table, or into the charging station.

  • IPhone 4S is making random screeching sounds.

  • On IPhone 5S, when making cell calls, it connects to FaceTime.

On IPhone 5S, IOS 7.1.2, when making cell calls, it connects to FaceTime.

    Hey there siteshop,
It sounds like you are still hearing the phone line ringing even after the person you call answers the line. I would try the troubleshooting outlined in this article:
iPhone: Troubleshooting issues making or receiving calls
    https://support.apple.com/kb/TS3406
Toggle airplane mode: Tap Settings > Enable Airplane Mode, wait five seconds, then turn off airplane mode.
Ensure that your software is up to date:
Check for a carrier settings update.
Check for an iOS software update.
Note: Some updates may require a Wi-Fi connection.
If the iPhone has a SIM card, reseat the SIM card.
If the iPhone 4 or iPhone 4s is on the Verizon network, dial *228 from the iPhone and select option 2 to update the Preferred Roaming List (PRL). The PRL determines the cellular towers the phone uses for cellular service, selecting those with the best signal strength.
Reset the network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Try to make or receive calls in another location.
Attempt to isolate to one network band:
If you're having the issue on LTE, disable LTE, if possible, and try again.
If you're having the issue on 3G/4G, disable 3G/4G, if possible, and try again.
Contact the carrier to check the following:
Your account is properly configured to use the specific iPhone that has the issue.
There are no localized service outages.
    Your account doesn't have a billing-related block.
Your calls don't have errors on the carrier system.
    Restore the phone as new.
If the above steps don't resolve the issue, go to an Apple Retail Store, carrier, Apple Authorized Reseller, or contact AppleCare to send the phone in for service.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    All the very best,
    Sterling
