Making  simple table (chart)?

I need to make a kind of table (like a grid) as a layer over an image. I will need to do this often, so I am hoping to learn a fast way to do this (I'm new to this work).
Basically I need a rectangle frame, 30cm high, with column lines at 7cm intervals all the way along (for example extending to 140cm wide in total). Rather than draw the lines by hand (I don't even know how to make them properly horizontal or vertical yet) I am hoping there are some tricks as to how to do this fast, and propery measured.
Really appreciate any help!

If You have Illustrator on Your machine it might be easier to create the graphics there and insert them as a Smart Object.
Other than that there are of course options in Photoshop:
One could create a path-rectangle with the Rectangle Tool (U), then hit command-T and enter the correct values (including the measurement units in the W- and H-fields), with the Pen Tool (P) selected command-alt-click the Path (to activate all points), copy and paste, command-T again, enter the correct value in the X-field, then hit command-alt-shift-T a number of times (thus creating additional copies with the last Transformation applied to each one).
Then with the Brush selected hit the Stroke path-button.
Or starting from that path one could create a Solid Color-Layer (white, then set to multiply, thus making it invisible) and add a Stroke-Layer Effect with Position: Center.

  • I want to make a simple line chart

i want to make a simple line chart using the data in two nonadjacent columns.
it seems that the easiest way to do this is to export the sheet to google docs and use THEIR charting, which is a two-click deal.
is there an easy way to do this in numbers?
    my impression:
    numbers:
very fancy, super pretty, easy to modify APPEARANCE, difficult to use actual charts. custom paint job on a junker
    googledocs:
available everywhere, basic, more difficult with actual data flexibility, but you can use what you've got.
the whole emphasis on numbers seems to be how pretty i can make displays, but not a lot of emphasis on making it easy to make things work.
can anyone shed some light on how to make this simple instead of pretty?

You can definitely use the technique I mentioned to order the columns to make it easy to chart:
Here I created a table (the top one) to hold the original data and make a second table (the lower one) to pull data into two adjacent columns:
The bottom table, as I said pulls data from the top data table:
Then highlight the data in the table to chart, and selec the chart type from the menu (I suggest the bar chart which is the first item in the chart tool menu):
I made up this data and mean it to be no reflection on your running ability

  • Simple Line Chart - Values over time

A simple line chart displaying a set of values over time would seem to be a very easy report to design. I'll be darned if I can see how to design it. Can anyone shed some light?
I have provided links to a report and a spreadsheet which is the report datasource. My actual report will use SQL Server as its datasource. I am providing ths excel based example for the sake of protability. You will need to set the datasource location after saving the files to your hard drive.
I can get the lines to draw properly, what I cannot figure out is how to specify the datetime values for the x axis. The column I would like to use on the x-axis is called DerivedLoggingTime.
I'd also like to get control of the logarithmic algorithm used to formulate the y-axis values. I am not always happy with the values that the log algorithm comes up with.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Another discovery while working on this report - our database will be SQL 2008 and  we are making use of the datetime2 datatype. CR appears to be treating this datatype as text. So when working with the SQL based datasource, I had to cast datetime2 columns as datetime in order for CR to see the columns as datetime instead of text. This is fine in this instance because the granularity of the datetime values for this particular report does not require datetime2, but that will not always be the case. CR will need to recognize the new datatype.

    Hi Joe,
The Date Axis Line Chart of the Numeric Axis Type Chart, can be used to display data on a regular interval of days, Months and Years. The information displayed can unfortunately not be more granular that days.
This type of chart is generally used when the data is recorded on irregular intervals in the database, and to make sense of the information stored it needs to be displayed at regular intervals.
Since the data stored in your data source seems to be stored every 4 minutes, it will not be necessary to use this type of chart. I will suggest to use the regular line chart instead.
To create a line chart using your date time field and value:
    1. Select "Chart" under the menu "Insert"
    2. Insert the chart on your report in the desired section.
        ( Group Header # 3 in your case. )
    3. In the "Chart Expert" window, under the tab "Type",
change the chart type to a line chart by selecting "Line" in
        the "Chart Type" list.
    4. Under the tab "Data", add the database field that contains the Date Time information under the "On change of" list.
(In your case, add the "DerivedLoggingTime" database field)
    5. To display the data for each minute, select the database fields you just added under the "On Change of" list, and
click on the button "Order". In the "Chart Sort Order" window,
select "For each minutes" in the "Section will be printed" drop down list, then click "OK"
    6. Add the field you want to display the value in the "Show Value List", then click "OK"
Now it will display a line chart as desired, but since there is a lots of data point on your chart, the x axis date time labels will overlap each other. To avoid  this situation, I will suggest to skip labels.
To format a chart to skip labels:
    1. In the "Preview" tab of the report, select one of the x axis label, and right click on it. In the contextual menu, select "Group (X) Axis Options..."
    2. In the "Group (X) Axis Settings" window, under the tab "Layout", check the option "Skip Group Labels" and set the value to 15 for example.
Now, it will display the date time label at every 15 data point.
As for your question on how get control of the logarithmic algorithm used to formulate the y-axis values, we unfortunately do not have much control over it other than:
    - Entering static values, or
    - Checking or Unchecking the option "Use Logarithmic scales"
The above options are available on the y axis. To change those options:
    1. In the "Preview" tab of the report, select one of the y axis label, and right click on it. In the contextual menu, select "Group (Y) Axis Options..."
    2. In the "Group (Y) Axis Settings" window, under the tab "Scales", you will see the following options:
    - Minimum Values
    - Maximum Values
    - Use Logarithmic scales
I will suggest to check the option "Use Logarithmic scales"
Finally, as for the issue you discovered where SQL Server 2008 data type DateTime2 is converted to a string in Crystal Reports 2008, it is important to note that SQL Server 2008 hasn't been released yet, therefore it has not been tested in Crystal Reports 2008. Once SQL Server 2008 is released, I will suggest to test it again using the ODBC driver provided with this new version.
At this point I am assuming that this is happening because it is a new data type and an unknown data type get converted to string.

    Hi!
I need to create in JSP a table and a chart which must be connected in the sense that when you select a row in the table , chart column must be highlighted and viceversa

Nothing in that has anything to do with JDBC.
You might try asking in a GUI forum or a JSP forum.

"Generally speaking the value of the NLS_LANG registry key or environment variable needs to be equal to the characterset of the database."
    Yes...that's why i have set the NLS_LANG env.variable to GREEK_GREECE.EL8MSWIN1253 ..equal to:

    NLS_RDBMS_VERSION              10.2.0.1.0"nls_language doesn't come into play, nor nls_instance_parameters."
    Yes...it's true.
"So, in the dump you posted, no one can tell whether those characters were INSERTed correctly at all. Your NLS_LANG *registry key* may have been set to an incorrect value (it defaults to American_America.MSWIN1252)."
Actually , i have used a third-party tool PL/SQL Developer (which does have the OracleDB10g as default home).
Looking at the Windows registry of OracleDB10g the NLS_LANG is equal to GREEK_GREECE.EL8MSWIN1253.
"Thirdly, as I implied above the NLS_LANG on import should have been American_America.UTF8."
According to the Note 227332.1 , if the db characterset of the two dbs are not the same.. then it is preferable the conversion should be done on the import process and not the export....
So, in an example described there -export from a AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252 db and import on UTF8 db - (seems exactly the same as mine) the import is done as such:
    c:\>set NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8MSWIN1252
           c:\>imp ....
The conversion to UTF8 is done while inserting the data
           in the UTF8 database.Additional notes....
I have used many different patterns doing the import......
    1) Use of AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8
    2) Use of GREEK_GREECE.EL8ISO8859P7
    3) Use the appropriate NLS_LANG that corresponds to the display of chcp command....
All tries display some '?' chars.....
Anyway... I 'll continue reading ... and testing
Thanks... a lot for your points

  • Resizing columns in a simple table

    Hello,
I have several simple tables in my structured FM files.  They were copied from unstructured FM when we went DITA.  I want to resize the columns so the tables look presentable.  I tried to do Table > Resize Colums, but when I run the map through the DITA OT for .pdf output, the columns revert back to what they were, which is all the same width.  Do I need to change the element in some way to get the column width I want?

Any knowledgeable people who can help?

  • Singel Selection in Simple Table

    Hi friends
I am not using an advanced table. I am using a simple table (lets say header) with 5 messagestyledtext and a singleselection bean for query purpose which i have created manually. Below this (header), I have an other table (lets say line)
I have some issues which i want to discuss.
1- When i pressed the button to query, my records fetched properly in my header table as i want and it also populates my line table because of View Link. Problem is when my records fetched in header table, my lines table shows me the records pertaining to my first record of header table but my singleselection radio is selected for last record in header table. I am assuming that my viewobjects are working fine but cursor in my table beans are not working fine. Is there any way to reset my cursor in header and lines table according to my viewobjects?
2- since i am using my own custom query panel, I have two button "Go" and "Clear". How can i program my "Clear" button to wipe out the messageinputtext beans in my query panel ?
Since i am very new to OAF, kindly reply me in detail. I read OAF Developer guide but i am unable to understand. If possible then please write the code here.
    Regards

    Refer
Reset single selection radio to first row of table after execution of query
You can intercept your go button click like follows
On query region we can capture the Go button click and execute our own search along with Standard Search.
    OAApplicationModule ap = (OAApplicationModule)pageContext.getApplicationModule(webBean);
    OAQueryBean bean = (OAQueryBean)webBean.findIndexedChildRecursive("queryRN");
    if(bean!=null)
    String id = (String)bean.getGoButtonName();
    if(pageContext.getParameter(id)!=null)
//here use the code mentioned in the above forum. (get the first row in VO using vo.first() and set the transient attribute value for the first row to "Y"

  • Provide hints on attributes rendered in a simple table.

I have a requirement that if the cursor is hovering on a attribute/column (prefer if it can be displayed when cursor is hovering on its heading) in a simple table style region, user should see detailed explanation of what that field is for (more like detailed help). i cannot use short or long tip for this because then the detailed message appears under the field for EVERY ROW and that looks ugly. I tried using 'Additional text' but for some reason that is not displaying the detailed hint message as expected.....
what can i do to provide hints when the cursor is hovering on a field/column in a simple table (prefer if it can be displayed when cursor is hovering on its heading) ??
    thanks.

Any inputs please ? can it be done ?
    Thanks./

  • Importing simple tables

Ok, this may seem like a silly question, but I've looked for info and can't find any...and am about ready to rip my hair out.
Is there a way to put a simple table into iWeb?
I have tried creating it in Pages, but all that imports is the file name of the document....
Cut and Paste looses the formatting....
    what am I doing wrong?
    thanks in advance

sorry, should have added that it is just a text based table, so there is no 'math' stuff involved. I just want to put it on the web page in a table style to make it look nice

  • Component for simple table

Hello. Can I create another simple table in ADF (not ReachTable) just to show data from database table? Wich components i can use for this?

    Hi,
    Welcome to OTN.
Always mention your JDev version and clear usecase (go through this announcement : https://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=56).
    1. If you use ADF, RichTable means simple table.
    2. Why don't you want to use RichTable?
    3. If not ADF Table, which table do you want to use? (Trinidad table? HTML Table?)

    It should be simple.
Lets say you have X - Axis with values (AA, BB, CC etc). and Y-Axis bars with values (10, 15, 25)
You will have to give onchange of the X-Axis. and in the bottom (Show Values) you will have to chose Y Axis (SUM/Avg/Max) what ever you desire.
If you simply want to show the values without the summary operation, create a Formula field and insert it under Show Values. You will have to check the Don't summarize values.

I want to draw a simple pie chart.
I was wondering whether there already exists a method to allow me to do that in SDK 1.4.2. I saw on the net a method getPieChart( ).
Do you know if its incorporated in SDK1.4.2 and how to draw the pie chart using this method. Can anybody guide me?

Have a look in your demos folder in your SDK, for example:
