Making Smoke Ae reducing velocity or speed of it?

Hi All,
I hope someone is around to answer this and not all of you are at the Show....
I am creating smoke (see pic) I want to slow the smoke velocity or speed down. It is generating much to fast and would like it slower or a bit 'whispy'er' for a lack of a better term. I think an instance is in order, however I could not find the master vault to writing instances. OR where to write it for that matter... Couple of areas to look? Maybe a quick fix on this challenge with some pointers? I was thinking to / velocity 50% yet I am not sure how to write it, or if that is what needs to be adjusted to gain my desired 'whispy or slower rising smoke?
Thanks in advance,
NC

This effect is based on physics in the real world. Try reducing gravity to -.05, increase the life span and generate just a few particles. I'd also suggest that you try creating a pre-comp using fractal noise and then use that as a blur map for Compound Blur and Displacement Map. You'll get more whispy smoke. The screenshot shows -.1 for gravity because the numbers are rounded up. The less gravity the slower the motion. Also set the velocity to 0 or very small.
Hope this helps.

  • How do you reduce the burn speed on a pc???

I've been getting the dreaded 4310 error and discovered, through searching the discussions, that reducing the burn speed could solve the problem. However, I can't find anything on how to do that on a pc? I have a compaq nc6000 laptop.
I've had the problem only rarely before today but, for some reason, it is now happening on every cd I try to burn.
    Thanx!

From the Edit menu select Preferences. Click the Advanced tab, then the Burning tab. You can set the burn speed there.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • E4200 - Router reduces the download speed

I've had this router for about over 6 months. First, the wireless connection has been pretty rock solid. No random disconnects, and the range is great too. Here's my issue so far...
I've recently upped my internet speed with my provider to the 110 Mbps level. In preparation for this new high end speed, I decided it was time for me to upgrade all my computer gear to the latest and greatest hardware.
Anyway, my new setup should more than handle a "measely" 110 Mbps internet connection.
After I got my new system up and running, I called my internet service provider and upped my service to the new highest speed tier. I then ran a speed test and the fastest download I could achieve was 99.87 Mb/s. At first at thought maybe my integrated ethernet jack on my motherboard was only 10/100 (which I was pretty sure was a gigabet network adapter). Anyway, I disconnected my computer from the router and plugged my cable modem into the computer directly. Ran a speed test and boom... I was able to get 115 Mb/s on download! Woo Hoo!! Ran the speedtest a few more times to make sure, and got the 115 Mb/s each and everytime I ran the test.
So, I hooked my router back up and my speed tests were back down to 99 Mb/s. It looks as though the bottle neck is my router even though the this router is advertised as a gigabit router. The web interface for the router shows that the port I have my computer plugged into, is registering Gbps (marked by a blue square). I've tried every setting in the router to achieve my 110 Mb/s speed with no luck. I've tried firmware upgrades, turning off wireless, turning off firewal, etc... to no avail. About the only thing I haven't tried is a third party firmware. Oh by the way, I was able to achieve a speed of 107 Mb/s (once) with my router in the loop, but not the 115 Mb/s I was getting with my computer connected directly to the modem.
I guess my next choice is to try different brands of routers and see what happens.

There is no such issue with the router E4200 which creates such kind of problem. Just it requires proper settings on the router’s web interface. So before upgrading the third party firmware you should have done the following troubleshooting steps:
A] With the help of Cisco Connect Software (if at all you have installed the router with the help of this software)
1] Open the software and go to the option which says "Router Settings"
2] Then click on the option which says "Advanced Settings" which will take you to the router's configuration page.
3] On that same setup page reduce the MTU value to 1400 from Auto
B] If you haven't installed Cisco Connect then you can log on to the router's user interface using it's default IP address in the browser which is 192.168.1.1 and type in 'admin' as the password leaving the username field blank. This will take you to the router's web interface and then follow steps as mentioned above to make the changes.
If still you are getting same IP address then try to reduce the LAN card speed. Here is the step:
START--> right-click My Network Places and click Properties
right-click on the device and click properties
    Click on the CONFIGURE button
Select the ADVANCED tab and the settings you can alter are listed on the left.

  • Suddenly reduced BB download speed - again!

Many months ago, I suffered a drastic reduction in BB speed.  Please can you help?  According to BT website, I should get BB download speed of 12.0 to 14.5 Mb/s but since September this has been around 9 Mb/s.  On 19 December 2012, the speed suddenly dropped to 6655/828 and here is my current data from the Hub 2.0:

As you can see, the noise ratio which is usually in the 14-15 dB area has jumped to over 20 dB!
Please don't tell me that this is due to the Hub being reset too often.  Only time I switched off the Hub was to move it to the BT box in the hallway.  It resets itself frequently enough with no help from me.  Today it has reset itself three times in 8 minutes during the past hour!!
I have moved my Hub from upstairs at the end of a 15-metre extension to the BT box in our hallway where it enters the house.  No improvement whatever.  I have an I-Plate fitted.
I connected my laptop to the Hub by ethernet and got the results:
Max possible speed 7.15Mb/s; actual speed 5.87 Mb/s download.  Sorry I can't show the image but the desktop I am using is connected by wireless and the BT Speedtester doesn't want me to connect wirelessly - why not?
Can someone please reset the noise margin to something like the 6.0 dB that is the BT standard as that will undoubtedly speed up my connection?  And should I just dump the Hub 2.0 and buy a router which delivers?  And when will this lonely bit of Birmingham be getting Infinity?  Every other exchange around me has Infinity buty good old Acocks Green still operates steam-powered Broadband!!
    Help, please!
    Solved!

To cut a long story short, I have had my BT Hub 2.0 replaced with a BT Hub 3 and a BT engineer has replaced my BT Box.  All is now working satisfactorily and I am getting around 12 Mbps download/.70 Mbps upload.  My line profile is 15.01/0.83 and here are the current Hub stats:

  • Should the LabVIEW program be reduced to the speed of data collection?

I'm using a LabVIEW program created by Ocean Optics for a
Spectrophotometer probe with is run through the USB port. The problem
occurs when we attempt to collect data over a time frame of one
second. For some reason the whole LabVIEW program will begin to
operate at the speed of data collection when we try to run the VI with
an integration time of +500 ms. If anyone would be able to offer any
kind of explanation or theory it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
    for any and all help.
    Daniel

    Dear Daniel,
since LV has no support for USB this must be done through a DLL or Active-X control. A call to a DLL or Active-X method is a synchronous node in LV, that means LV will go on executing when the call completes.
My theory of your problem is that the program makes such a call and it would take that time to collect the data in the DLL or Active-X control. If you have only one loop in the program and do not use dynamic loaded VIs through the VI server than the program seems to hang on each of this calls.
    I hope this helps

  • Will making more Photo Library's help speed iPhoto?

Ok, so I have about 13,000 photos in iPhoto. they've been collecting for years. I have videos in there as well.
    It's going very slow.
I've tried rebuilding the library and stuff, but i was thinking...
Would creating multiple Libraries help speed it up?
    I could create a Library for like 2003-2005, 2006-2008, 2009-2011...etc
and then i can just keep the most recent one open at all times.
Would this actually speed up iPhoto?
I don't mind having to restart and load a new Library when I want to find old photos, but I do want to keep using iPhoto to organize and manage my photos.

So what would be the benefit of having several Libraries then in iPhoto?
Generally there are no advantages and several disadvantages - it is strictly a personal issue - if you for any reason want multiple libraries do it - but there is generally no reason to do that
Also, are there any other opinions for speeding it up a bit?
Maybe - depends on many things - for some people web syncs are a big issue at start up and turning all of them off helps - sharing can be a speed issue - without specifics of your system and exactly what you mean by "speed issues" everything is just wild guesses

  • How to reduce on full speed running loops

I have a problem, with time delay's in my main vi. That is, all the loops are running on full speed. How can i speeddown the loops?. Example: my Flow loop. it is running for 20 sec's and resets the flowcount, after that it can wait e few sec's and the run again.

Look in the Time and Dialog palette and grab a "Wait (ms)" function and drop one in each loop. Then wire a time delay to these. This will put a time delay in each loop that you specify.
You'll probably have to experiment a bit to figure out how fast each loop needs to run. With no delay in the loops, they will run as fast as your processor can handle, which could be 10s of thousands of times per second. Drop an indicator on the iteration terminal in one of your loops and let it run for a couple seconds and you'll see what I mean. Plus with no timing in the loops, they will not run at a steady rate as they fight for processor time (also appearent when you watch the iteration counter, it jumps)
A time delay will give your system time to do othe
r tasks and will make the loops run at a steady rate. It can be as small as 1 ms, but it's not likely that you need it run that fast.

  • Time Capsule wireless reduces my broadband speed

Does anyone have any idea how my Time Capsule wireless is managing to strangle my download rates? I have restarted etc etc oh and turned off the wireless on the BT Router which seems to have helped...but still:

It is getting pretty consistent download speeds of 5,6,7 Megs....BUT here are the rubbish results via MacBook Pro and Wireless on the Time Capsule (500gig version) the first figure is download, the second is upload.
The figures are actually VERY flattering - again and again webpages simply fail to load and I have to cancel and start again. It's driving me mad...any ideas?

    Hi Peter,
You have just described almost exactly the problems and conclusion I have. Unplugging and restarting almost every day to get even half decent connection speed - yep, I'm with you on that one. Pile of rubbish. And accessing the hard drive wirelessly through Finder - even navigating around the folders takes ages. I dearly love Apple kit, but as you say, it is embarrassing when you try using it in front of anyone else, and it performs like this.
Like you, I'm also currently wondering about returning my 6 month old Time Capsule, and am trying to find out whether I/we are just unlucky to have got duff ones, or is this standard behavior for a TC? If anyone else has any comments, I'd be interested to hear.
By the way, about having AirTunes skip and cut out, I did have the same problem initially, but I changed the way the Airport Express was configured, and that fixed it. I think I changed it from the 'Extend your wireless network' to the 'just act as a dumb music router' option, or whatever the wording is. You may find that at least you can fix that issue.
    Jim.

  • HT3771 I am attempting to reduce the printer speed but I am missing required steps.

It says to go to "system preferences" > "Print & Fax". I Instead have Printers and Scanners. This takes me to a page that looks like the example. Then I need to click the "Options & Supplies" button. zthis brings me to a pane similar to the one I'm supposed to be taken to but it is missing 2 tabs: 'Utilities' and 'Docks'. I am supposed to be able to click the 'Docks' tab and turn off high-speed prining there but it doesn't exist.

HT3771 does indeed say "Print and Fax" but this must have been changed as, like you, I have "Printers and Scanners". The article does say that "Utility - If present, opens the printer utility supplied by the printer vendor" so perhaps your printer does not have one. My printer, an Epson, has "Utility" but there is no "Docks" (and no mention of this or high-speed printing in HT3771). On my Epson, high-speed printing is achieved by printing in each direction that the print head moves; this is selected or de-selected (print in only one direction of the print head movement) in the presets of the printer popup menu.

  • How to reduce cpu fan speed just by hardware?

    Hi,
I have a K8N Neo4-F, AMD3200+ and "arctic cooling freezer 64 pro" as cpu fan. The rpm range of this fan is from 300 to 2200. I use "cool n' quiet" and "Smart CPU Fan Target with 40°C" as bios setting. When the cpu is idle ( ... just doing some typing or so on ...) it has a temperature of 32°C and the fan has ~950 RPM.
I think the fan speed is to high for this cpu load (< 5% and 1000Mhz CPU Clock). My expectation in this szenario is to have the cpu fan speed near the lower bound (300 rpm), but I don't know how to manage this (with just bios settings)  ... any hints?
    Thanks a lot ...

My point was you did what D.O.T. is supposed to do without using it.
Of course it's point is to auto-overclock the system to whichever degree it's set at. The problems come in because a lot of the settings it uses aren't always compatable with a lot hardware combinations. That's why it's best to come up with your own OC settings that are stable with your parts.
It's just like how the Nvidia/ATI speedup option seems like a good idea, but works poorly in practice.
Both are more useful to the marketing dept. in having more "why tech" features available to print on the outside of the retail box than they are to the end user.

  • I have a Samsung Continum. Samsung sent an update about a week ago, and this phone has been reduced to "turtle speed".

Has anyone had issues since the update came out?
My husband and I both have this phone.
Typing on the keyboard to send messages is delayed, viewing photos- the phone locks up.
I went to our local Verizon Store where the clerk removed the battery to "reset" the phone.
    It did absolutely nothing!
    Any suggestions?

    Hello lorbut,
The Continuum is a great Galaxy S phone that has a dual display and  wonderful screen resolution! I love how the ticker on the second screen provides real world updates on the key information like weather and text messages! There a few elements that could be causing the slow response from the device. Can I assume that the two devices that you are inquiring about does not have any physical or liquid damage? Also, what is the exact software version that you and your husband have on your Continuum(s)? Below are a few troubleshooting steps that you can try on your devices to get this issue resolved.
Verify that the you have a Verizon Wireless approved software version.
Remove any unused apps or widget from the device.
Delete long threaded text messages from the text message inbox.
Transfer and save all pictures, videos, and music onto a memory card.
Perform a factory reset on the device. (See link below)
    http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=36055
Should you decide to perform a factory reset using the link above, it is highly recommended to back up your contacts and your calendar entries. Backup Assistant is a great app to save your contacts onto My Verizon. Calendar entries can be saved on your Gmail account. Once the reset has been completed then the device will start a tutorial to go through the activation and setup process. Once you have completed the tutorial, please test call voice and data services. If you notice a distinctive lag time from your command and the device reaction then please reply to this message for additional assistance.
    Thank you...

  • Reducing Processor speed for Power problems

I have already replaced the power supply in my G5 20"iMac under Apples self-install program. That problem was resolved (no power), but now the computer has been unexpectedly shutting off and has frequent high fan noise . I reduced the processor speed and it has been usable. I plan to take it to an Apple Store because my 1yr. waranty is almost up, however, my serial # falls in the Repair Extension program for Video and Power issues.
I am hoping they will diagnose on the spot and order a new logic board or whatever. I do not want to leave the computer at the store while a part is ordered as it is usable.
Does anyone know what I can expect at the Store?
And, in general, can anyone tell me what happens when the computer is used with reduced Processor speed.I have not really noticed a difference, but I think I am just masking the problem.
    Thank you

    Hi
If you do decide to go with a processor upgrade, they're available from a number of manufacturers including Giga Designs, Sonnet, OWC/PowerLogix/NewerTech and FastMac:
    http://www.gigadesigns.com/
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/cpu_upgrades.html
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/accelerators/
    http://fastmac.com/
Most of the above web sites have more detailed information about their processor upgrades and downloadable installation manuals and/or videos, so you can check compatibility and what's involved in replacing the processor.
Here in the UK the Sonnet upgrades seem the most readily available and are available from the following stockists amongst others:
    http://www.macheaven.co.uk/
    http://www.macupgrades.co.uk/store/
I've also ordered from OWC in the States before without any problems. With the good exchange rate you may save some money, although be aware I've always ended up paying some form of import tax, so the savings aren't as great as you may expect.
If it were me I'd consider a 7455 based OWC Mercury Extreme upgrade:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/accelerators/OWC-Mercury-Extreme/
They seem to be highly recommended, compatible with OS 9.2 and OS X and don't require any third party firmware patches or kernel extensions etc. If you click the More Info button for the 1.467-1.5GHz upgrade, you'll see some benchmarks comparing it to the stock 400MHz processor.
Another option would be to look for an original Apple dual 450MHz or 500MHz processor card on eBay that's been pulled from a Gigabit Ethernet model. Assuming your computer's compatible with dual processors (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/13551), it would offer a modest speed boost.
    I hope this helps.

  • Can't burn a CD from playlist I have reduced speed to 2 but can only burn part of playlist and a medium error occurs

Can't burn a CD from I tunes playlist, I have tried reducing speed to 2 but it will only record 11 of 19 tracks and it abort with a "medium Write error" message.
I have tried changing CDs but this doesn't make any difference.

From posts I've read all around the Internet, there does not seem to be a simple solution. The word "Medium" refers to Media (CD,DVD) So logically you'd think trying another brand CD would work, but you've tried that. Another alleged fix is reducing the write speed, and you've done that.
Other fixes that worked for a few people were cleaning the optical drive with a cleaning CD or gently spaying compressed air into the slot to clean out any dust buildup.
Searching these Forums will find a few threads on the topic (search "medium write error in iTunes")
Googling the same search criteria brings up a whole page.

  • Increasing battery life by reducing processor speed.

Is it possible for me to limit the amount of power that goes into the processor? i have tried using speedit and coreduotemp but i can't get them to work.
You see i mostly use my laptop to play music out loud whilst i'm at work, and i'm sure i could get a much better life out of it. I remember i got about 6 hours on my ibook g4 1ghz, and my macbook pro is 2.4ghz and getting 4 hours at most, and runs rather hot. i use the fancontrol system preference application to reduce the fan speed when i want more life and increase it when actually use it.
    can anyone help me out?

Running Windows will completely disable any processor control and there are no fan control programs that operate in Windows and work with a Mac. That wouldn't be a feasible solution.
I'm not aware of Windows having a built-in mechanism allowing the user to reduce processor voltage. Windows does use processor stepping to reduce the clock speed under certain usage conditions, but so does OS X.
