Making sub-clips in a multicam sequence

Hi,
I used two cameras conducting while conducting an interview, and I'd like to be able to make sub-clips of the parts I want to use of my multicam sequence.  Is that possible?
Warm regards,
Bob Fischer

I have a similar issue. I have a two camera shoot that I have synched up. I haven't done the multicam edit yet.
It is of a museum exhibit opening gala. So, there is a linear timeline of singers, speakers, singers, speakers.
< Clip One --singers -- singers -- speaker -- speaker -- speaker -- singers -- singers -->
< Clip Two --singers -- singers -- speaker -- speaker -- speaker -- singers -- singers -->
What I need to do is to take the footage - 35 Minutes - and trim it down to 3 minutes. What I need to do is show singers doing one song (multicam) then fade out the audio, bring up b-roll footage and audio, bring back in singers, fade out singers and bring in speakers (singers as backround audio while speaker speaks) and - this important - speakers are part of the two clips that make up the entire multicam sequence.
So, I could multicam everything first and then use that footage as my basis for cutting, adding b-roll and cutting entire speeches, songs, etc.
Or, I could set markers in the original multiclip synched sequence marking the beginnings of each "event" I could use the razor tool and start hacking it up and sliding it around. Then resynch all cut clips from the two sequences and multicam from there.
Is this clear at all?
Thanks.

  • How to edit a clip in a multicam sequence (CS6)?

I am using Premiere CS6 on Mac, I have a multicam sequence set up (2 cam).
I just want to color correct cam 2 to match cam 1 and I cannot figure it out. Everything I try applies the correction to the entire sequence.
If someone can provide exact steps to apply color correction to one clip in the sequence only (it's just brightness/contract, nothing complicated), so that it's reflected in the multicam sequence I'd be grateful. Even a link to a tutorial would be good as I cannot seem to find it online (almost everything points to CC which I don't use and is totally different than CS6).
    Please help!

Ok, I finally figured it out, no thanks to Adobe's crap "Help" system, which is missing MANY steps...
    1. Right-click the Multi-Camera Source Sequence in the Project tab (NOT the multicam sequence you're editing). It's the one with the green/blue lines perfectly lined up.
    2. Choose Open in Timeline.
    3. In the Timeline, make the edits you want to the clip you want (in this case, Brightness/Contrast on clip 2)
    4. Go to Window > Multi-Camera Monitor
    5. You'll see your source clips stacked in the window, and you can fine tune from here.
    6. Click on the Multi-Camera Sequence you're editing in the Timeline, and the Monitor should update to reflect your changes.
You can toggle back and forth between these sequences in the timeline, adjusting as you need.
This was incredibly easy for me to document, I really fail to understand why the Help file couldn't be bothered. It's completely missing things like what the difference is between the source multicam sequence and the program multicam sequence, how to edit a clip in your multicam sequence, and how the multicam monitor works. Really pisspoor documentation, but at this point, I don't expect anything else from Adobe.

  • Need suggestions on making sub-clips

    Okay, so here's the situation:
I did an interview for a documentary I'm making, and want to split up the large file into sub-clips for individual topics. However, when I was reviewing it, I noticed that somehow the sound/visuals had been desynched in capturing. It would be very inconvenient for me to have to recapture at this time, so I found a work around by making a new sequence, putting in the desynched file, and trimming some of the video off to sync it up. However, now I can't make sub-clips, I can only use the blade tool on the large sequence. Can anybody think of a workaround?

Okay thanks that might be helpful but I actually figured it out. I just exported the synched sequence to a Quicktime movie and then re-imported it. It's a little cumbersome and has to be rendered all the time, but it works.

  • How do you add additional video clips to a multicamera sequence after aligning multiple cameras?

We shoot extended videos (1-2 hours in length)  all the training videos I've seen for CC walk you though aligning the inital cuts and then editing, but they don't say how to add the rest of the clips from that session to each video track.  Any tips?

Thanks Mark - That worked.  By the way, in case there are any other rookies out there trying to create a multicam sequence like this, make sure that you 1) create the MultiCam Source Sequence and then 2) right click on the Multicam sequence icon in the project window and then 3) choose open in timeline.
Once the project is open, verify that the camera views are sync'd and then drag the follow on video clips to the end of the appropriate video track.  Once that is done, right click on the Multicam icon again and choose New Sequence from clip and your complete project will be ready to edit.
Thanks Mark for the quick response.

  • Problems with footage after making Sub clips

    Hey there
Today I woke up to view all the subclips I had made out of my most recent project. Only today, all the footage looked more pixelated and blurry.
What might of happened? When I pause the footage the quality is exactly as it was before. But when played it's more pixelated.
Some of the footage was shot at a lower resolution, but when I set the size of the screen to the appropriate resolution the quality still looks bad.
Could this have anything to do with making subclips? Even going back and seeing the clips that the sub clips came from: the footage is still more "pixely"
    Any help appreciated

Update to FCP 7.0.3...run the software updater. That solves a lot of NX5 issues.

  • Colour Correcting lots of clips in a Multicam Sequence

    I have a problem with Premier CS6,
I have a timeline with a Multicam camera sequence, 2 camera's only and i want to reveal a camera in a sequence like in FCP7 so that i can apply a color correction to only 1 of the cameras, i am aware of selecting the clips by holding down the shift key and copying the attributes to the clips but this isn't convenient when you have hundreds of clips because 1 maybe missed and it would take forever, i have watch loads of videos on the web but i cant find the answer,

I've done this for taped classes using two cameras. All shot in a class room with unchanging lighting, so a single color correction works for two hours of video capture. Of course each camera needed separate and different color corrections (I applied just a luma curve and three way color corrector effects to each video feed, keeping it simple).
What I ended up doing was color correcting on the source sequence in PPro. Each camera feed corrected separately, and just a handful of clips, so easy to copy the color correction to them. I then nested this source sequence into a multi-cam edit sequence where I did the slice-'n-dice camera switching that is multi-camera editing.
The color correction done at the source sequence carries through to subsequent nested sequences. So the mulit-cam edit sequence gets the color corrections. No matter how many cuts you make going back and forth between cameras, the color correction is always true. If you then nest the multi-cam edit sequence into a target sequence (I use target sequences to edit the multi-cam edit into trailers, portions of the classes for short web videos, full class videos for DVD, etc.), the color corrections flow down to them also.
Sorta stands the conventional workflow (color correction last) on it's head. But it works well and seems to be almost fool proof (at least for this fool). Now of course this only works if you need a single color correction applied to a huge long video capture that you'll subsequently slice-'n-dice in a multi-cam edit sequence. But if this is what you need, this might be a method worth considering. Clearly, YMMV.

  • Making sub clips from tracks

Hi. I am unfamiliar with the Soundtrack interface. I have been editing a lot of sound for a short film in final cut pro. We recorded a large amount of audio for monsters and people, ect. I have the file of all that audio in an OMF file which I can only open in Soundtrack Pro. I've used Soundtrack on a limited level before, but my question is. When I open the OMF file in Soundtrack Pro I 22 tracks of sound not labeled well at all for editing purposes. Also, some tracks are longer ect. Anyways, I need to label all of these tracks and create seperate clips from long takes and such. What's the best way to go about doing this? Hopefully this is clear. Thanks!

    1. Don't cut the subclips too tight. Make them include all the media for each shot, and then edit the pieces of the subclips you want into the timeline.
    2. Do not recapture in iMovie as it captures in the wrong format.
    1. Yes.
    2. Yes. Maybe if you can get a separate monitor if your computer supports that and use that to hold your browser.
    3. No, but you could make 10-15 minutes sequences and put them together in FCE, which may be easier to work with than a one hour timeline.
    4. No.

  • Audio "sub-clips" won't play in source monitor, but will play when cut into a sequence.

I'm cutting an "audio only" project in Premiere and I came across a strange problem while making sub-clips. The first 6 sub clips made from the same master audio clip were normal, but then something changed, and the rest of them won't play any sound while in the "Source" window, even though while in the window the sub-clip displays a waveform.
Once edited into a sequence they play normally, but not being able to listen to the sub clips in the source monitor is annoying, and louses up my whole editing routine for this kind of project.
Any ideas as to why this is happening, or what I might do to fix it?

    Number of issues here:
    1. Your system does not meet minimum requirements.
    2. Your CPU, disks, memory are not enough for anything other than DV.
    3. What video camera was used with what codec on what OS with which version of PR. etc.
Some suggestions... and answer at least the 16 questions at the end of the Wiki article.

  • Make sub clip from a sequence?

I am a recent convert from FCP and am used to placing multiple clips on a sequence and making sub clips from the sequence.  I shoot a lot of 20 -30 minute interviews and this sub clipping from the time line in FCP was my workflow to select the best sound bites.
    What am I missing?
It appears you can only make sub clips from the source window?
    Help
    Thank you

Thank you, that is so easy - now that you showed me.
Yes as I have several clips from each segment of interviews (especially if they take breaks, or I to need shut off the camera) then I scurb through them all, by subject, which may cross over multiple clips to make sub clips and rate them based on a star system to do final assembly in a new sequence.  If do this in the source monitor I would have to load dozens and dozens of clips, one at a time to preview.
Can you suggest a better workflow?
Maybe with Prelude?  I have not even opened this app yet

  • Color correction problem between original sequence and multicam sequence... Please help

I used three camcorders to record a youth dance recital.  I created an orginal sequence for the three camcorders and another sequence using the multicam feature to edit the dances.  After I finished editing, I went back to the original sequence to make some color correction and brightness adjustments using the Fast Color Correction controls.  After that, I sent everything to Encore to create a DVD.  When I watched the DVD, I noticed some of my color correction settings were still off, so I went back to the orginal sequence to make some changes.  Unfortunately, the multicam sequence would not read the new settings.  After a few unsuccessful attempts to get the clip from the multicam sequence to read the clip from the original sequence, I decided to start over by clearing the Fast Color Correction controls from the clip.  The multicam sequence then adjusted back matching the original sequence.  However, when I started a new Fast Color Correction control in the original sequence, the multicam sequence would not take the new settings.  How to I get the mulitcam sequence to read the orginal sequence?

    Thank Jim for replying:
I am stumped on this one.  I did a few radical tweeks and it did not take.  For example, I made one clip in the original sequence go completely dark.  However, the clip in the mulicam sequence did not change.
I even deleted the render files and the work area render files and started over with making changes.  Nothing.  Any change I make on the original sequence will no longer adjust in the multicam sequence.
Any last words of advice before I delete the entire multicam sequence and start over?  Thanks.

  • CS4 multicam sequence shows only 1 of 3 clips

I have a project that I have been working on for a month and am now having an issue with the multicamera sequence within the project.  I am using a 3 camera multi camera sequence and have cut 1 hr. and 30 min. worth  of video between all three cameras.  I opened the project today and found that despite all my cuts on the multicamera nested sequence I can only see 1 camera in the preview window.  All the multicamera clips used to read MC1, MC2 or MC3 and now they do not.  They are now labeled as the raw footage sequence from which I created the multicamera nested sequence.  When I right click on the clips in the nested sequence they are not multicamera enabled and if I choose to multicamera enable a single clip, all the clips on the entire timeline change to another camera but once again it is the same camera all the way through the timeline.  What should I do?
I have tried creating a new project and importing the old project(the project where I am experiencing the problem) into it but there was no change.  I also tried right clicking on the cameras in the project panel and replacing them with themselves(the acutal files on my hard drive).  Again there was no change.  I tried turning on and off the video and audio layers on my raw footage timeline from which I created the multicamera nested sequence and the changes I made were reflected in the clips on the nested sequence. For example, when I turned off all video I could not see any video on the nested sequence.  This leads me to believe that they are still linked somehow but the project is still not working properly. I’m using a Matrox Axio LE running on Vista 64bit using Premiere Pro CS4.
    Thank you!

    Thanks for the reply!
Good news, I was able to find a auto save where all the multi camera are
working correctly.  I performed a Save As to a new project which I will work
off of from now on.  What do you mean when you say, "I'd lose the Matrox
    first?"

  • "Making multicam sequence from 3 other sequences" not showing video properly

Well, problem in a nutshell. I created a multicam sequence, using 3 other sequences. But somehow, it's not showing it 100% correctly. Like, the main window shows the video, like it should be, and the smaller windows, are just off sync for some reason (except the only sequence that doesn't have any empty caps on it). Any explanation & fix for this?
Instant workaround that I just invented. I put some empty title on the empty caps, and now It shows it, like it should be in the smaller windows. But if anybody knows why it did it in the first place, would be clad to know.

    OK, maybe I should clarify...
Only A2 is coming through, NOT A1 -- so that's inconsistent with what you're saying. I have not checked Audio Follows Video, because that's not the bahvior I want. I'd like to be able to choose from any of the video tracks. Is that not possible in Premiere Pro?
Also, do you think it makes a difference that I'm 'multicam editing' from a regular sequence (with multicam enabled) as opposed to an actual multicam sequence?
    thanks for the help.

  • How can I make a synced audio track match the length of selected clips in a multicam seq?

I have a continuous multicam sequence of about 13 minutes containing a synced master audio track recorded from seperate microphones. I want to rearrange scenes from it into my final sequence, but when I select a range of clips to nest the entire length of audio gets pasted into the new sequence. I want to trim the audio to match just the clips I've selected but not lose sync. Is there a way to do this or is nesting not the way to chop up a sequence and rearrange the scenes in it?
    Thanks.
    Mike

Me too!!!  I have a multicam sequence from 2 cameras with the audio staying on camera 1. I also have a seperate, continuous  audio track recorded from microphones which I have synced to the timeline. I'm trying to select a group of sequential clips of different camera angles from the timeline to create scenes which I can insert into a final sequence but in a different order from how they are on the timeline. Let's say I want to take a series of clips that start at 3:30 on the timeline and go until 4:30 on the timeline.  It will contain several cuts between the different cameras and I want to use that section as the first scene of my new sequence. If I select all of the clips in that time period and nest them into a new sequence, I only get the audio from camera 1 on the new TL. If I try window selecting those clips to include the continuous audio track, I get a new TL with 3 minutes and 30 seconds of the desired audio, then the video clips, and then the rest of the audio making a 13 minute TL. I just learned, after searching around, about marking in and out points on my multicam seq. and using the trick of "LIFTing" and then "UNDOing" to keep my  multiseq intact, and then pasting into a new sequence. That works, but I'm only getting the audio track from off the camera. It won't select and lift the section of the other audio track that I want. I'm rushed for time so that's the way I've ended up finishing the video for now. The camera audio is just going to have to do although the mic recording is much better. The more I try to explain this the more confused I get and I'm sure everybody reading it does too. Any ideas?   Thanks!

  • Trimming projects with multicam sequences

    Hey all,
I'm trying to project manage a short trailer piece my company edited.  It's all of a ninety seconds long, but when I project managed the resulting trimmed file was going to be 250gb!  Well after troubleshooting, what I found was that the project manage doesn't want to trim the multicam clips in the sequence.  That is, it will not trim the files contained within the multicam sequence that the project is referencing.  So even though I only use, say, a 5 second snippet of a particular angle, it wants to give me from start to finish every single angle and audio track in the original multicam, even though I only use a small piece of one angle in the actual project sequence.
Now ostensibly the solution is to flatten the multicam, which had the effect of essentially cutting out the "middle man" and referencing the clip itself as though there wasn't a multicam at all.  But when it does this, it undoes all the audio work which has been applied to the multicam.  It is effectively reverting to the raw clip, and undoing all the audio mixing, which is no good.
How can I work around this issue? It will be important because we have some other projects that are much, much larger, that use multicamming and will need project managing.  But it won't do to create a trimmed project that is terabytes in size when it should only be a few hundred gbs at best.  Ideally I'd like to not have to throw out the multicam entirely, as it is very useful if we ever need to pull the trimmed project and tweak.  I just don't want every second of all the clips in the sequence.  Just the clip itself, the alternate angles and 50 frames or so of handles.
Any advice or tips would be deeply appreciated!
    Best,
    BR

First, have you thought of creating sub-clips and then adding only the sub-clips to your timeline? IIRC that can allow you to get down to just the actual material used ...

  • Is there a way to view all cameras in the timeline at once without creating a multicam sequence?

Is there a way to view all cameras in the timeline at once without creating a multicam sequence?  Is there some kind of window I can open where they will show up?  I am scrubbing a timeline and I would like to see all the cameras at once.

The multicam monitor only shows multiple clips at once when they are part of a mutlicam sequence. is there some reason you don't want to use them inside a multicam sequence for previewing?
Here is a possible workaround, if your workflow circumstances will permit it:
Apply a pip preset effect  to each clip in the timeline. Use UL, UR, LL, LR presets and up to four video tracks will display at once. If you need to see more than that, you'll need to tweak their position parameters by hand. When you're done previewing them all at once you just need to delete their effects from the Effects Controls panel.
I know it's not that neat or quick, but it will let you see everything at once in the program monitor.
