Making sure I have the correct hard drive selected before ordering

The computer in question:
Hp mini 110-1100 (1125nr)
p/n: VM136UA
Intel Atom N270 - 1.6 Ghz
2 GB RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium (32 bit)
[I upgraded the RAM from 1 GB to 2 GB, and upgraded "Windows 7 Starter" to Windows 7 Home Premium]
Now, I would like to increase the hard drive size from 160 GB to 500 GB.  Knowing this is a somewhat older computer, I want to be sure I've selected a hard drive replacement that will actually fit--and work--in this computer.
Here's the one I think I'm interested in --  Seagate 500 GB hybrid 2.5":
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/b003nsbf32
Will this drive be compatible with my netbook?
Thanks!

Hi,
In theory should be compatible but in practice you may get a big problem: your machine does not know the new HDD. I did one last week, at the end I had to use an external case to format the HDD (please don't ask me why) before put it back to the mini (sorry, not same model).
Hope this helps.

    I rcvd an AppleService email
Due to recent updates we are asking many of our customers to confirm their information this is nothing to worry about. We are making sure we have the correct information on file and that you are the rightful account holder. Failure to comply with this may result in your account being suspended.
Is this real or a scam?

If you changed your Apple ID, you will not  be able to update any of the content that you used in the past. The worse case scenario here would have been to change the password. Really all you needed to do was go on the Apple site and change the password, unless you provided them with information. This will make it difficult for you to deal with turning off Find My iPhone and other Apple ID related steps. All you really needed to do was delete the email.

  • How do I get firefox to display images clearly? I've got Windows 2000 Pro and Firefox 3.6.6. Internet Explorer shows images clearly, so I'm sure I have the correct graphics driver. Do I need a plugin or add-on of some sort? When I go to "updates", it

When I use Firefox the images and logos don't show up clearly/correctly. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro. and just installed Firefox 3.6.6. I'm sure I have the right graphics driver as I'm able to see the images and logos clearly in Internet Explorer. I only have the "default plugin 1.0.0.15" installed. I'm thinking that I'm missing a plugin or add-on of some sort, but I'm not sure which one(s). When I go to "updates" it says there were no updates available. When I go to "Add-ons" it gives a list of Add-ons but I'm not sure which would help my issue. Any help would be appreciated.:)

Any chance you have a dial-up connection that uses a web accelerator to speed the loading of content?

    Well!
If you have ThunderBolt, I would go with such for an External Working Drive, spinning platter or SSD depending on your budget
This does not have to be huge just big enough to house your most current Jobs
Once the Current Job is put to rest I would move it to a larger multi bay hard drive unit, USB or FireWire nothing fancy, no RAID, set up as one single Disk
This would only be accessed when something is needed from a past Job so the connection does not have to be speedy
The Drobo would be relegated to Vaults and backups
You can set up a Vault on the Drobo to back up the External Working Library and then Reconnect it when you have moved the Library over to the other Enclosure
This has worked for me pretty smoothly for a long while, but I have found over the years that one can not assume all people work in the same manner! :-)

I have moved my iPhoto to an external hard drive. so now I have to have the external hard drive connected to my laptop to view the photos.  Now when I want to import photos into iPhoto from my media card, I don't have room to connect both devices at the same time as the usb ports are side by side.  How do I import my photos from the media card to the external hard drive now?

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

I think its meant to show your name, not your ID.

Because the drive was disconnected Time Machine made a local snapshot on your Mac.

  • Do 17-inch and 20-inch iMac G5's have the same hard drive

    I have two iMac G5's. One 17-inch 1.8Ghz, and the other a 20-inch 1.8Ghz.
The Hard drive is gone on the 20-inch. Is it possible to remove the hard drive from the 17-inch, and install it in the 20-inch. Do they both use the same Hard drive type?

All iMac G5s and Intel iMacs both use Serial ATA hard drives. You can happily and cheaply buy new larger capacity drives easily anywhere on the highstreet. I can't really see the point in using a 2-3 year old drive if you are going to the effort of cracking one of these things open:Examples of suitable drives.
Likewise you'll probably find a brand new Superdrive is faster and pretty cheap:

  • Need help picking the correct hard drive upgrade for my MBP

I need help picking the correct/best hard drive upgrade for my MBP. It is the 15" 2GHz Core Duo. Came with a spacious 90GB drive.
    Suggestions and recommendations very appreciated.

It will take almost any 2.5 inch sata drive.
Take a look at www.newegg.com and www.macsales.com to see what's out there and how much it costs.
Toshiba have a 320gb 2,.5 inch drive in the works, but it's not quite out yet and will be expensive.
    I'll start you off..

  • HT1449 will it work if i have the external hard drive connected to an airport extreme?

I recently purchased a Macbook Air 11.6" 128GB and I realized my itunes library is getting a bit bigger than expected. So I searched for ways to keep my MBA`s SSD with more space and I found this article.
I do have an 1TB external HDD connected to my airport extreme, and ive been transferring files mannually. But this solution seems quite interesting! having my itunes library all stored up on it seem cool!
    so...will it work?

You can do it.. it is often unreliable.

Apple do not support or recommend it.. but you can turn it on.. there must be a million posts with the method.

    Q2 for the setup..

  • How do I get my Firefox bookmarks off of my old hard drive (now installed on my new computer as the 2nd hard drive) and into my new installation of Firefox on my new computer?

I had a lovely computer, about 8 years old, running Windows XP; the mother board died; the hard drive was fine.
I now have a new computer, running Windows 7, and I have the old hard drive as my 2nd hard drive.
How do I get my old Firefox bookmarks off the old hard drive and into my new Firefox installation?

You can find your current profile using about:support pasted into the location bar then click on "Open Containing folder. That is where you will want to replace your old files into.
Next find your old profile on your old HD, see
    :https://support.mozilla.com/questions/886839
With Firefox down replace the profile files you decide to replace.

  • Can I install a new SSD on my MBP without the old hard drive?

Here's the scenario. I'm currently in the Philippines leaving for California for college next week. There, I will buy a new SSD (Samsung 830 to be specific). I want to leave my current HDD (the one in my laptop that I'm using right now) here in the Philippines though as my brother here wants to use it. Is there a way for me to install the new SSD without having my old hard drive with me? My macbook pro is an early 2011 15inch MBP running on Mac OS X version 10.7.3 (Lion). I actually don't want to clone my hard drive or anything because I want to start fresh and new with my new SSD. Most of the tutorials I've read online involve some kind of cloning or having the old hard drive still plugged in and having the SSD connected externally, but these methods won't work for me because I won't have the old hard drive. Thanks so much

The only negative to not having the original drive will be the work needed to reinstall all the apps and reconfigure to your liking. You will also have to decide whether to stay on Lion (which you should update to 10.7.4, BTW) or bite the bullet and take a leap of faith on Mountain Lion.
In either case, to simplify matters you would do well to concoct a Lion or ML bootable installer on a USB stick. In either case, you need to get the corresponding installer downloaded onto the hard drive and, instead of running it to execute the install, extract the coveted InstallESD.dmg image from which you construct the bootable installer. See here for details: https://discussions.apple.com/message/17782820#17782820  The procedure applies the same to both of the latest cat flavors.
