Making sure i made recovery media right

Hi, i am pretty Technologically illiterate so i would like to make sure i made my recovery media correctly, I have  HP H8-1214 and ordered a new video card and power supply. My plan is to format my computer when i install them to clear all of the useless junk and bring it back to factory specs and start fresh.
I also figured before i do that now would be the time to create my recovery media jus in case, so i used recovery manager, put it ona  thumb drive, everything seemed to work fine, so if my hdd ever went down im now covered? This is all i would need? What kind of unnerves me is that when i check the files properties on the thumb drive it says it is only 350 MB, which seems absurd for how long it took, so i am just double checking if you all would be so kind!

The Document explains the necessity to avoid the "Windows 8" compatible flash drive.  The logo is irrelevant.
If the USB flash drive shows as a "removable device" then Recovery Manager will create the drive.  You can check a flash drive you already have before running out to buy a new one...

  • Making sure FCPx uses proxy media during editing

    I read the manual on this and it is vague, so . . .
    The proxy media has been created (I've checked that the files actually exist.)  How do I ensure that these files are being used when I setup my multicam clip?
    How do I ensure that they are being used while editing?
    Anything special to do while exporting the final product to ensure best quality?
    I've gone through the project properties and nothing jumps out at me as requiring a change except perhaps the render format.

    Rusty Rat wrote:
    That was one of my concerns - how to ensure I didn't produce the final product from proxy media.  I suppose though that the proxy makes a good choice for producing a 'draft' version.
    Yes, you can export in proxy as a draft version.
    Render Format is in the Project Properties > Audio and Render Properties > Render Format.
    Thanks. I had never noticed that. ProRes 422 seems to be adequate in most cases. Not sure about speed. In fact, in most cases you may not need to render at all. I always keep "background rendering" turned off and only render a section of the video if playback is not smooth.

  • Hi all! What is the best way to create the correct space for baseball jersey names and numbers? along with making sure they are the right size for large printing.

    What is the best way to create the correct space for baseball jersey names and numbers? along with making sure they are the right size for large printing.

    Buying more hard drive space is a very valid option, here.  Editing takes up lots of room, you should never discount the idea of adding more when you need it.
    Another possibility is exporting to MXF OP1a using the AVC-I codec.  It's not lossless, but it is Master quality.  Plus the file size is a LOT smaller, so it may suit your needs.

  • Making a recovery media

    I read here where you shouldn't use sandisk to make a recovery media after I made one. How do I check to see if it worked? It said that it was completed

    If it completed you should be fine. Many of the Sandisk flash drives are not accepted by Recovery Manager as a source to use for Recovery files. Due to version of firmware on many new flash drives they are designated as a 'Local drive' rather than 'Removable storage'. Only drives designated as removable are used for Recovery creation. Unless HP has finally changed that behavior I would think your drive is designated as removable storage.

  • Not sure if this is the right place...Recovery or Finding missing files

    Hi,
    Again, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but its worth a shot.
    so i've been transcribing video all day using microsoft office for mac, and was saving the project (i thought) to an external hard drive. at one point the HD came unplugged, and i plugged it back in. no big deal. i continued to save, to type, save, type, etc until finished. so when i finished and saved the project, seemed okay. when i closed word, it kept asking me if i wanted to save changes...i said yes, and it would just ask me again, did this a few times. i assumed it was asking me to save it to a new location, which i didn't think i needed so finally said no.
    i then find out that somehow when the HD was unplugged it erased Words ability to save to said location. so my last save was really before the HD was removed, which is odd, because i kept saving and never was prompted the path was interrupted or anything.
    so my question is two part...
    1. where would i find in the depths of the computer the saved files? if i was saving, they had to have gone somewhere, but i dont know how to find them.
    2. also, assuming it wasnt saving, my word prefs say it autosaves every 5 minutes, so those files must exist somewhere also, yet can't find them...
    does this make sense, can anyone help me?
    thanks
    austin

    Hi there,
    In Finder, select Go menu>Go to Folder, and go to "/volumes".
    Volumes is where an alias to your hard drive ("/" at boot) is placed at startup, and where all the "mount points" for auxiliary drives are created for you to access them. This folder is normally hidden from view.
    Drives with an extra 1 on the end have a side-effect of mounting a drive with the same name as the system already think exists.
    See if it may be in one of those with a 1 or 2 added to it.

  • Installed a new HHD, cannot install Windows8 with the USB I made previously as a recovery media

    Restoration Incomplete shows up
    can only select "save log" "details" and "retry"
    I clicked retry and a window "Insert recovery media"
    and my USB is plugged in to the USB2.0 port
    laptop model : envy m6 1119dx
    I tried force shut down and removed the USB and restart but the same happened again.

    Try this,
    Go to BIOS, change the date to 2012 (not too older date, try some sate in december 2012), save and exit. run the recovery using your USB recovery media.
    once recovery completes, change the date to current date. remember if you do not change the date back to today's date, windows activation may fail. dont worry too much - if activation fails once, dont worry just change the date on next boot it will activate after next reboot (if you have internet connected).

  • Making recovery media in DVD

    I was trying to make recovery media. It is asking for USB flash drive of 32GB. How to make recovery media in DVDs? Please response ASAP

  • Usb recovery media made from t430i does not boot

    hi i got a problem here
    a friend got e new t430i with windows 7 pro 64 bit
    so he asked me to install windows 8 he gets from his university on his t430i - therefore i started the rescue and recovery programm via lenovo solution center and did all with a 32 gb flash media.
    the flash media is set active but the the recovery system does not start of it  but the R&R does not let me do the whole process once again this time on som DVD's
    so how can i do the whole process once again - as otherwise i could not install win8 without loosing the ability to set the system back to win7 factory defaults ?

    RnR is not available for win8 systems.
    I assume you are trying to backup up the Factory recovery partition on  the win7 system to use in a far future time, ie like if pc is sold.
    You are trying to CREATE PRODUCT Recovery (factory install ) backup.  This is only allowed to run 1 time.
    (1) Create USB backup wont boot (you have to prep the usb before the backup).
    (2) cant run process a second time. You have to change DONE_ini parm inside the recovery partition to allow it to run again.
    Both of these issues are discussed in other posts on here.

  • System Recovery Media not supported by computer

    My computer won't boot off of internal hard drive. I can boot off of recovery DVD that I made when I got the machine, but after booting into some sort of recovery/safe mode (windows logo comes up) , a message appears that says "recovery media not supported by this computer". I think the hard drive may be done, I was going to get a cheap SATA drive and replace the original.

    Hello @gus12345,
    I understand that you are getting an error that says "recovery media not supported by this computer". I suspect it is your recovery discs that are the issue for this error. That is not to say that your harddrive is not at fault, but the immediate error is related to your discs. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Obtaining HP Recovery Discs or an HP USB Recovery Drive, which will provide you with the various ways of getting a new copy of your recovery discs.
    I hope this helps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

  • I'm unable to recover Windows 8 from recovery media.

    I am trying to do a system factory restore and have been unable to do so and am getting frustrated.
    By the way I'm using the Thinkpad Twist s230u with Windows 8.0
    Here is what I have done so far...
    1) Created recovery disk on a USB drive (I don't have any CD/DVD on this laptop).
    2) Rebooted and pressed F-11 to start recovery mode
    3) Chose my language and keyboard
    4) Selected "Troubleshoot" and "Reset PC"
    5) Selected "Target - Windows 8"
    At this point, I get the message "Insert Windows Install or recovery media."
    I insert the USB disk.
    I get the message "Media inserted is not valid."
    6) So I backtrack to "Troubleshoot".  Instead of "Reset PC" I choose "Advanced Options"
    7) I choose "System Image Recovery"
    Now I get the message "Windows cannot find system image"
    WTH?  I am sure that the USB media was created correctly and the recovery partition is intact on HDD 2 (Windows Disk Management shows the recovery partiation as "Hard Drive 2").  I try to browse for an image and it' asking me for a driver that has system info?  I can't get it to find the recovery partition, and it doesn't look like the USB disk has enough information to restore an entire OS.

    I believe I have solved this problem by using a partition manager, making a copy of the recovery partition to the primary drive. Then "reset pc" seemed to recognize it.

  • Which Recovery Media DVDs are unique for each delivered pc?

    This is related to the other thread: what is "boot media" and "data media"
    Having just finished making recovery media for the E520 I've just purchased for my daughter, I'm soon going to need to repeat the process for the other identical E520 I've just purchased for my other daughter.
    I'm lead to believe that the Windows 7 media is unique for each pc, but during the creation of the recovery media, the process created 4 x DVD.
    1. Bootable CD/DVD.
    * Volume label: CD_ROM
    * 305 MB
    2. Recovery DVD 0.
    * Volume label: RCD_AppCD0
    * 3.62 GB
    3. Recovery DVD 1.
    * Volume label: RCD_AppCD1
    * 4.04 GB
    4. Recovery DVD 2.
    * Volume label: RCD_AppCD2
    * 1.22 GB
    Do I need to make another complete set of 4 x CD/DVD or is only one of these unique for that pc hardware?
    This is for a Thinkpad E520 (1143CTO) with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    If the systems really are identical you don't really need to make another set, the set you made will work.  That said, it can't be a bad thing to have two sets in case one set get's damaged, lost or whatever.
    In such situations I prefer wearing belt and braces.

  • Cannot create recovery media on Pavilion Notebook

    When I try to create my recovery media on new notebook on DVD-R's it cuts the first DVD (says it needs a total of 6) and at 100% of creation, it then gives me a "text block" "disc verify failed please use another disc and try again". Each time (total of 4) I scrap the DVD (it can't write over it) and try a new one. I'm getting nowhere fast.
    I have made sure everything is closed (all programs that is) and even run it in "airplane mode" so it has no access to my network. Should I also temporarily turn off McAFee Livesafe?

    I am using Memeorex DVD's. I've always had good luck with them with other things. I think I will pick up some SONY or VERBATIM and give them a try. I also saw the option for DVDdl? This is a new one to me. I'm actually thinking also of perhaps a couple high capacity 16GIG (I think it said a total of 32GIG?) flash drives. I only have a couple 4GIGs and 6GIGs laying around.
    I will also try to disable McAfee while in "airplane mode".
    It will be a day or two before I can try these again. I will let you know how it goes.
    Thanks for your help.

  • New SSD, made recovery USB but no luck

    Whole process goes without a glitch. Copies files from media to hard disc. Restarts. Begin installing drivers. Restarts again. Gets to Administrator login screen then says Recovery Incomplete with a choice of Save Log, Details and Retry.  Been trying this over and over and getting the same results. Any ideas on what to do here?  My next route is to order the recovery discs but not willing to spend £30+ on media that will do the same thing.
    Cheers in advance.

  • "Recovery Partition has been Removed" Message in Recovery Media Creation

    This question was solved.

    I don't know why your PC is saying your partition is gone - you're right, it doesn't look gone. I do know that if you use the Support Assistant to make backup copies of your Recovery Disks and Then instruct it to remove the recovery partition to give you more space on the hard drive, it will delete the HP factory image of Windows 8 from the recovery partition and leave the normal Windows repair tools behind.
    There are tools however that allow you to create your own recovery partition complete with these Windows repair tools and a new image of your instalation so you can restore from that. You could use this tool: Windows 7/8 - OEM Recovery Partition Creator found here: http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads/21978-Windows-7-8-OEM-Recovery-Partition-Creator but thats a lot of work and it would be faster and easier just to backup your data and restore from your HP recovery disks you made from Support Assistant. If you didn't make the disks, HP may opt to send you a copy.. they do not normally do this but I have read that some people have good luck getting a free copy of the media from HP.. otherwise they want you to buy the recovery disks ($40.00) . I suppose it depends on the exact circunstances of your situation.
    Another solution is to use Macrium Reflect Free Edition to ghost or clone your system. You can then restore your whole system even with your custom programs installed, to the exact state it was in when you made the backup image. ( this may take several dvd's) I suggest you go this route because restoring your system with Macrium Reflect is Much faster than restoring from the HP Recovery Disks. Even if you do obtain another copy of the Recovery Disks, you should use this tool to make another backup that you can customize to your liking. Your re-installs will be faster, they will already have your chosen software installed, and you will save wear and tear on your HP Recovery Disks.  You can then safely delete the recovery partition to gain back that space on your hard drive (since you cannot access it anyway, you won't need that space being taken up).  BUT.. you cannot restore from UEFI Mode which is what HP ships with. You have to go into your Bios settings, and switch to Legacy Bios mode, (which disables Secure Boot) FIRST or else the Macruim recovery boot disk will not load to install the recovery image. After the system re-installs you can go back into bios settings and disable Legacy bios and re-enable secure Boot if you like. ( Windows 8 will load in both UEFI mode with secure boot enabled or Legacy bios mode.. it's your choice. UEFI mode will load faster but it will cause problems if you want to dual boot the system with another OS)  Hope this helps.
