Making sure the colors are accurate in photoshop

Lately, my finished photoshop phot looks differen when I view it in Picasa, or ipad, or iphone. Is there a way to set the balance in photoshop to guarantee it is accurate?

Photoshop calculates its display of images based on the screen profile, so one needs to calibrate one’s screen(s), not Photoshop.
Monitors can change with time so it is recommended to calibrate them regularly.
It just seems that lately it looks different on other devices, but the same among themselves.
So how should the problem be with Photoshop?
Do you embed the profiles when saving images?
In which Color Space do you work?

  • When i print out a color photo the colors are not accurate

I have a new envy110 series CQ811A. I have a windows 7 64-bit laptop. There are no error messages and the Envy works great but when i print a picture off of a web site the colors are not accurate and i mean none of them. i have returned one printer already but this one is doing the same thing. i really like this printer but if it won't print the colors correctly  i don't know what i will do. I also have a HP C4280 All In One Photo Smart and whatever is printed off the colors are great it just is not wireless. I have tried everything and nothing helps. Is there a solution

    Hi easyneez5!
Sorry to hear it's not printing web pages so well.
I do have a suggestion, that may or may not align with the way your are used to printing web pages; HP has a new and improved application for printing web page content; HP Smart Print.
It's supported on IE (most versions) and can do some neat tricks: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/partner/microsoft/bing-bar-for-hp/smart-print.html
There are also other potential 'tweaks' you can try in the [Printing Preferences] / [Advanced]: Image Color Managment; You might try setting it from 'ICM Handled by Host System' (default) to 'ICM Handled by Printer' or even 'ICM Disabled'.
Again, this is merely a potential way to check to see if this helps get those colors right; and remember your settings before you change them.
      Hope this helps

  • Color space-creating a book in My publisher-.when I look at the share book pre print the colors are all dulled out. I work in pro photo rgb in LR and PS -.My Pub is sRGB-.where is the problem?

Color space…creating a book in My publisher….when I look at the share book pre print the colors are all dulled out. I work in pro photo rgb in LR and PS ….My Pub is sRGB….where is the problem?

I finally got to my references. This had to do with "soft proofing" on screen in Photoshop.
So this may not help you at all. Re: Strange sRGB soft-proofing behavior  So go ahead and leave that setting at Basic.
However there is a Color Management forum that you also go to and see if anyone has answers for your particular problem.
Here is the link: Color management
I hope they can help you out.

  • My ipads screen is shakey and the colors are messed up

my ipads screen is shakey and the colors are messed up

If the device screen looks inverted, try triple tapping your home button.  OR, you could tap settings, general, accessibility, and make sure invert colors is off.  Not sure what you mean about the screen being shaky, unless you tapped too long on the screen, and the icons are wiggling.  In which case tapping the home button will resolve that as well.

  • Watermark added to photos - but the colors are faded now!

    Hi!
Hope somebody can help me, cause I couldn't find this problem in the forum yet.
I'm using Automator mostly for resizing my photos and to add a watermark. But after the workflow is finished the colors are always quite a bit faded.
I did the workflow manually with photoshop, but then the photos look normal!
I list the workflow as follows:
    1. get selected finder items
    2. open
    3. add graphic watermark
    4. scale image (750 px, 72ppi)
    5. render (save as jpeg)
    Hope somebody can help me.
    Thanks.

  • When printing photos at my hp 1514n the colors are odd + not suitable. using win7 64bit +lat. driver

Hi, I' using a hp 1514n for printing photos. It's attached to my Win7 64bit computer. But the colors are not suitable. Printing is in high quality but the coloras are wrong (i.e. instead of a bule sky I get it  turquois).
all patches installaed and also the lastest drivers. What else can I do?
The files are ok, because I get the right colors when printign the files at another hp color laser jet with win7 (32 bit)
Where can I get a suitable icc file?

I'd use the GutenPrint drivers. They're usually better than the drivers that HP ships, anyway, and the latest version of GutenPrint will work with Leopard while the HP drivers for a printer that old will not. The drivers at <http://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/MacOSX/hpijs> also explicitly support the DJ960C. Those drivers are usually written by HP employees, are often superior to the drivers HP uses, and, like the GutenPrint drivers, are free.

  • I have updated to Maverick on my Mac and now the thumbnails are tiny in Photoshop what can I do

I  have updated to Maverick on my Mac and now the thumbnails are tiny in Photoshop what can I do about it as they are so small I cannot see them.

You need to update to AE version 11.0.4 (the latest version of CS6).
The need to update has been made widely public. Not only has it been posted on Adobe's site, but there are dozens of threads on it in this forum alone (not to mention in /r/AfterEffects on Reddit and every other AE forum I've been on). A tiny bit of Googling would have solved your frustration in an instant.

  • HUGE VIDEO PROBLEM!  The colors are all wrong!  Quicktime Gamma Bug!

I'm on a Mac, and there is a huge problem with video.  When you view or playback videos, the color is all wrong!  It's desaturated and faded.  If you import your videos into premiere or playback through vlc, then everything looks correct. If you play them back or edit them in lightroom, the colors are all wrong.
Nice try Adobe, but you failed.

Ok, but we'll need more details.
Your OS version, how you calibrate your monitor, whether you see the same playing through Quicktime standalone on your Mac, what camera the videos came from, whether they've been edited in other software, etc.
This is a beta so there will be bugs - that information could help narrow down and fix issues such as these.

  • Why are the colors in Illustrator and Photoshop so off?

    Hi,
Let me just start off by saying I have the color mode in both Illustrator and Photoshop set to RGB. Yet, there is a noticeable color difference between a picture on the internet and when I paste it in for example Photoshop.
    Picture from the internet:
    Picture when pasted in Photoshop:
It's the same thing in Illustrator. And this is not just with pictures by the way, it's affects all the colors I use, which is a major pain in the rear.
    Anyone know a fix?

Well, my suggestion in post #13, was to help me find out what the cause of your problem is. It doesn’t solve your problem permanently but temporarily, only for the current session of Photoshop or Illustrator by making these programs show your image without applying any color management conversions.  So, you have to do this every time you open such files in these programs.
If you want to understand what is going on and be in control, you have to go through a lot of walls of text unfortunately .
I’ll try to explain it roughly but if you don’t understand it you need to read more about color management.
You are using Safari and this is how its color management  works:
    https://developer.apple.com/library/safari/technotes/tn2220/_index.html
    on that page it says:
"Important: For images that are not tagged with a color profile, their color values will be displayed on the screen by Safari with no optimization or adjustment for differences between devices in how they render colors. This may result in the colors not being displayed as originally intended"
This made me think that like most images on the web, the image you are using doesn’t have a color profile. In that case, assuming a certain scenario based on your input, the reason it is displayed differently from Photoshop and Illustrator is because you have a color profile of your monitor used by your system that is different than the color space used for the display of the image. By default RGB Images without a color profile are displayed using  the color space set for the working space in the Color Settings of Photoshop and Illustrator. Also by default this color space is sRGB.  If your monitor was also with an sRGB profile assigned in the system, which is the case with all monitors that come without a color profile provided from the manufacturer, you should have not experienced this problem because Photoshop and Illustrator will see that the color space you want to display your image is sRGB and your monitor is sRGB, and there will be no color conversions because both color spaces, source and destination are the same.  Unless someone else has setup your system ,color management, and installed a monitor profile,  my guess is that the manufacturer of your monitor has provided a color profile installed in your system that is not sRGB.
When you choose View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB, this in effect turns off the color management because you are displaying the image in the same color space as the one assigned to your monitor.
If you want to turn off the color management permanently which will be valid only when displaying images in the sRGB color space, you can assign the sRGB color profile to your monitor. This will show the images on your monitor with the same colors as those displayed without color management in the other applications and choosing View > Proof Setup > Monitor RGB will make no difference.
Non color managed programs can display the color only in the way your monitor displays it. Color managed programs simulate other outputs on your monitor. The only way to match the display in color managed and non color managed software is to turn off the color managed software. This will display the same color values with the same color in all programs on your monitor.
The purpose of the color management is to allow the viewer  see the colors as intended (the way the creator sees them when creating the image). Different devices and media output the same color values differently resulting in different color. Therefore, when the viewer uses different device or media the colors if not color managed properly will look different or not as close as possible.
When you turn off the color management, or even when it is on but not properly applied, which I suspect is the case in your situation, you can’t be sure that the colors you see are as intended. In other words, you can’t tell if an image is supposed to look the way you see it, and you can’t create images providing means that will allow others to see them the way you see them.
So, for whatever reasons you want to make colors look the same in all your programs, have in mind that this is valid only on the current state of your monitor, and this also cuts the possibility to see and send to others colors as intended.

  • The colors are not showing up correctly on my site like they do in photoshop and explorer.

Why don't the colors show up correctly in Firefox? They are exactly the same color yet firefox shows them as slightly different. I checked them in Photoshop. Same hexadecimal, same RGB. It looks correct in Internet Explorer but does not in firefox. The color is: hexadecimal: #0FCFF3, RGB: 15,207,243.

This can be caused by a problem with the color profile for your display monitor or color profiles embedded in images.<br />
Try to disable color management to test if it is caused by a problem with color management.<br />
You can set the gfx.color_management.mode pref to 0 on the about:config page to disable Color Management.<br />
You need to close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.
    See:
