Making Text Box Shrink To Text

I'm designing a form with a text box that can grow, which I've done successfully. The problem is as the user is typing on the next line the previous line scrolls up and is hidden from view. It expands when the user exits but I think it would be useful if they saw all that they were typing.
I was playing with mouseEnter setting the height to say 2" which would be more than enough, then on mouseExit setting back to the default of .25" expand to fit is checked but the text box maintains the .25" no matter how much text and the scroll bars appear. I don't want to start shrinking font size.

Problem with making text 3D

Making text a 3d repousse object is easy enough, but if I add filters to the text, select it and then try to make a repousse object FROM the selection, the text gets rendered in 3d, but
there is no hole between letters like O and P and A. Is there anyway I can cut holes into these letters? If not then how else can I make 3d text with filters on them?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

Help Making Text Picture Frames

I came across this neat design feature, and I am not too sure how to go about creating this element because I am new to Illustrator. Still, I figure this is either a PS or an Illustrator feature. Whatever the case, how can I go about making text that incorporates picture frames as seen in the words "Road Trip" (and if there are any videos out there that would be great).

I think what you are asking is how to make images appear through type.
If you want to make a single image appear through a word, all you need to do is to position the (live) type on top of the image, select type and image and hit Cmd/Ctrl+7. This makes the type into a clipping mask.
Alternatively, if you want each letter to contain a separate image, outline the type, ungroup (preferably) and make each letter into a clipping mask over its own image.
There are other ways but this is the easiest.
Here are two examples:
The top one is live type masking a single image.
The bottom one is outlined type masking two images. In this case you will need to make compound paths, one for each set of letters, WES and TMAN ISLANDS. Each compound path masks its own image.

I use preview's annotate feature to take notes by making text boxes in a PDF file. When I open the notes up again to review, all the text boxes have been rotated 90 degrees. Is there any way to prevent this from happening?

If I click the boxes twice they rotate back but this is very annoying and time consuming.

Just checking...still no fix for this? I upgraded to OSX 10.8.4 recently and started using Preview to annotate lecture notes, only to find text boxes rotated later on. Appears to be okay if I go back and click on all text boxes and save again.
Any new updates on this topic re: why this is occuring and how to permanently fix it?

Can't fit width without making text unreadably small

I can fit the width with the toolbar icon, but the text shrinks to pictures of horizontal lines. OR... I can read the text, but have to scroll left and right for every line just to do it. The file is tagged. I am using Reader for Pocket PC 2.0. I tagged it automatically using Acrobat 8. I like to scroll up at the end of a page, it's the simplest way to progress through a book, and some texts do this while others do not. Can anyone suggest a way to make the document fit the screen and still remain large enough to read? Many thanks.

YouTube widget making text shift

I have a very simple page with a text box that has words and links and I often like to add a youtube video above one of the links. When I do this, the text shifts up in the browser when it loads despite it looking fine in iWeb. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? If I rarely had to do this, I would adjust accordingly and move on, but I do this quite often and it takes a lot of unnecessary time to keep moving the widget and uploading multiple times until it looks right in the major browsers.
Chrome & Safari seem to shift the text an equal amount. Firefox is slightly different.
Is there a way to put the youtube widget inside the text box instead of on top of it?

You can turn the text box into an image by adding a drop shadow with 5% opacity. That shouldn't shift with the widget. But the text won't be available to search engines.

MAC Photoshop Elements 4- Making Text Smooth Does not work?

I have tried to search the forums and help maual, but to do avail so I am adding another topic, Although I have anit-aliased on, the text still seems fuzzy, what can I do?

Did you resize the image after adding the text? Or use the move tool to drag the text larger after simplifying it?
If not, try deleting prefs: quit PE, then restart while holding down command+shift+option. Say yes when you see the dialog box asking if you want to delete the settings. This won't help existing text, but if there was something wrong with the text tool it should clear it up for new text.

Making text a hyperlink?

The help docs talk about a links panel, and I can get there, but the simple act of selecting my text and turning the selection into a hypertext link seems nowhere in sight.
Isn't there an easy way to do this? Like select text, menu choice to add hyperlink, plop link in box and move on?
I'm as far as hyperlink options with the URL typed in, but don't see anything that links the text I selected to the link and clicking on the link does nothing.

To add link to a button, do the following:
1- Create a button, which could be you text converted to a
button
2- Access the Action Script panel in the script assist mode
(find its button in the top of the Action panel)
3- choose getURL action from the left menu (find it in Global
Functions> Broswer/Network> getURL)
4- In th URL field, write the URL you would like you button
to go to.
And to make you text a link, you can do the following:
1- Write the text you would like to be a link
2- in the text properties panel, write your URL in the URL
field

Making text in a PDF darker???

Is the only way to make text in a PDF darker to use Document-->OCR Text Recognition-->Recognize Text Using OCR and then use the ClearScan PDF Output Style?

This presumes you have access to the original paper so you can rescan it. If you don't, are there any levels/contrast adjustments avaible in AA9 though? (I haven't seen any.)

Making text smooth after converting from a PDF

Hello I'm very new to PhotoShop. Im running CS5 and I have a PDF that I'm copying and pasting onto a layer in PhotoShop. When I do this the text is really awful looking and I cant figure out how to smooth it out.

Making text glow with a spinning logo in menu

maybe hal could help me,
i am wanting to create some menu pages ,where i have a spinning logo and text that glows when selected,not sure how to do it,i nearly can understand about creating menu pages in photoshop using layersfor the glow ,but not sure how i can fit the spinning logo on top

Really depends on the layout and how you are going to make things spin and glow. There will be some limits on smoothness - but the concept is revealing and hiding parts of the motion menu (which will have movement revealed - also layered menus will not work with a motion background)

Script making text binary

have an Automator script that is doing something funky and I was wondering if someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. What the script does, is:
1. Filters an IRC chat log so that it is broken into 3 hours (2PM, 3PM, 4PM)
2. It then combines the three hour logs into a single text file
3. Next it renames the file to chat_today's date.zip
4. Then it zips the file as archive.zip
5. Next it renames it to chat_today's date.zip
6. It then uploads the zip to an FTP server
7. Then the IRC chat as a whole (all hours) is zipped and archived
8. Original "whole" chat log is then moved to the trash as is the individual hour text files and the uploaded zip
My problem is that when you download the zip file and view the text on a Mac it looks fine, however, if you view the same file on a PC it puts in extra binary spaces and wants to use the "big endian" format if viewed in Word.

if you look at the log file with a HEX Editor, you will see the following:
FE FF 02 DB 02 C7 00 00 00 41 00 00 00 70 ...
This means that the file was originally Unicode (UTF-16) but was interpreted as MacRoman and then converted to Unicode, resulting in everything being duplicated:
• FE FF is the Unicode byte-order mark which was added in the conversion - this is fine
• 02 DB is the UTF-16 equivalent of the character FE in MacRoman, 02 C7 is the equivalent of FF - which means you had a Unicode byte-order mark before but it got interpreted as MacRoman and converted to Unicode again
• 00 00 00 41 is the Unicode equivalent of 00 41 (which is Unicode already and denotes the character "A") interpreted as MacRoman
Looking at the work flow and playing around in Automator a little, it seems as if it does not allow you the flexibility to specify file encodings so you might have to use an AppleScript or shell script within your workflow - you could use AppleScript to extract the paragraph from the original file and write to a new file and then zip that new file or use a little shell script which does it all (use "sed" to extract everything between the date and the next new paragraph and then pipe the output to "zip")
