Making the Aspire One work for you as a desktop.

Heres a photo of how I am using my new Aspire One as a desktop. I decided to get rid of my Acer Aspire x1200 yesterday simply because it draws too much power and can make some heat in the room during the summer time. Note : I still need to buy an external DVD Drive to install programs but I am fine for now.
All you need for basic functionality are the following :
USB Keyboard
USB Mouse
Monitor
Just plug these items in and youre ready to go as a desktop! In fact its so quiet and energy efficient that for gaming ive turned to game consoles from now on.(Of course, the system doesnt choke for casual gaming)

The general path to launching a career in programming is:
-- math & science in high school.  Written and verbal communication are important skills.  Unfortunately, English classes spend too much time analyzing obscure authors and not enough time teaching writing skills  in my observation.
-- four years of college.
In the mean time, your local library is likely to have many books on computers.
Investigate:
-- Creating a web page.  Google Sites allows you to create a site for free. You should be able to get involved with your school "newspaper"  media efforts.
-- Graphic tools such as photoshop or Gimp
-- Text processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software.  i.e. Office or Open Office
-- Unix and Unix command line i.e. Terminal
I recommend Phython as a programming language.  Phython is powerful but approachable. About any Programming language will do.

The second edition is a total bargain if you need to go for low cost.
Once you get your started with Python, there are a lot of standard  programs for doing more complex projects.  Here is the link:

Just want to avoild spending hours migrating everything across....

Yes, I can read but just can't write DVD's. I get:
This disc can’t be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new blank disc (error code 0x80020063).
Originally I thought it was the old Moutain Lion DVD drive issue (but have had the drive recently replaced by Apple), so I tried creating a new account, which worked.
In the old account I have reset SMU, Pram... but no change.

  • Versions- Which One Worked For You?

All my iTunes versions worked wonderfully for several years until I upgraded to v7.4.
What was your best iTunes version that did what you wanted without ruling your computer? I can't remember my version before v7.4. (Yup,, I'm stupid.)
All I need is my music library, iStore for new music, radio URL's, and multiple speakers.
Not much to ask and my previous version did every thing GREAT. BUT,, like a dumb, take things for granite that all will be OK, trusting duffus, I installed v7.4 and my world of daily music, either play lists or radio went away. (I changed on August 23, 2007)
What version worked for you???? I'm thinking that either v6.0.5 or v7.0.2???
I just need to go back to a "Plain Jane" version. I don't need all the "bells & whistles". V7.4 seems to be completely in control of my computer.
    Sorry to ramble.........

    Robert,
Man,,,, Thanks for the input! I thought I was living on the Moon. None of my other posts were responded to.
Hey,, The Library is the least of my worries. I've become a "pro" at removing a version and reinstalling. At this point "PlayLists" are not a priority. I just need to get back to where I was.... Meaning radio URL's connecting.
I think that to do a "go-back-to-earlier-version" I'll wind up re formatting my hard drive 'cause I've tried to revert to v6.0.5, but the uninstall for v7.4 doesn't clean up all the little traces of v7.4.
Oh well, I love iTunes and I'll try your version......
Again, I really thank you for responding.........

  • Making Your USB port Work For You

I'm thrilled we now have a new board to get our customers’ feedback! My name is Alysia Eve and I am the Worldwide Product Portfolio Marketing Manager for ThinkPad. Our team is responsible for developing, building and launching new ThinkPad products. As we look to the future we want YOUR feedback to help shape our products and features. Our goal is to develop products that not only meet your needs but you love owning and using.
For our first post, we are looking for input and thoughts about our Always-On USB feature. The Always-On USB feature is indicated on the system by a USB symbol with a power plug next to it. The Always-On USB port allows users to charge external devices even when your computer is in sleep or hibernation mode.
We would appreciate your input on the following questions:
Do you know one of the USB ports can charge your cell phone even when the PC is turned off?
Do you know from 2013, ThinkPad’s have a rapid charge feature on one of the USB port to more quickly charge your cell phone?
Does the battery icon next to the USB port sufficiently indicate that you can rapidly charge your phone?
Do you find this feature valuable?
Would you use this instead of your cell phone charger on a trip?
    We really appreciate your thoughts!

    Hello,
    In response to your questions:
Q1:  Do you know one of the USB ports can charge your cell phone even when the PC is turned off?
A1:  Yes, assuming it is enabled in the BIOS/UEFI firmware.
Q2:  Do you know from 2013, ThinkPad’s have a rapid charge feature on one of the USB port to more quickly charge your cell phone?
A2:  Yes, assuming it works with the various devices I carry, all of which have different, incompatible high-current charging modes.
Q3:  Does the battery icon next to the USB port sufficiently indicate that you can rapidly charge your phone?
A3:  I've rarely needed to use it, since I carry a small external USB charger with me (4.2 amp 2×USB charger, international voltage compatible).
Q4:  Do you find this feature valuable?
A4:  I've used it on occasion, but it doesn't offer a much additional functionality beyond what I already carry with me.
Q5:  Would you use this instead of your cell phone charger on a trip?
A5:  No, I never travel without an external USB cell phone charger.  It is more convenient to use an external USB charger and put it away when finished than it is to take out my entire notebook and have it charge a single device at a rate more slowly than the portable charger does.
    Comments:
I typically travel with two smartphones, a 4G wireless hotspot, a tablet, an ebook reader and a Bluetooth headset, all of which charge via micro USB jacks.
    Regards,
    Aryeh Goretsky

  • Does xf86-video-intel-git work for you?

I have a Lenovo R61 laptop with intel chipset, and i used to use xf86-video-intel-git from aur :
    http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=18678
since last week it needed packages from new xorg. I installed new xorg from testing, build it and when i installed i could not use x. When i roll back to 2.9 from testing everything is fine.
Does the git driver work for you or is it broken for some chipsets(can't really remember of mine right now)?
    edit: my chipset is GM965/GL960.

It sounds to me like either one of two things happened to you mechmg93. Either some incompatibility crept in with the new X server or your configuration became obsolete. Either way I think that this discussion is better with others that have [testing] enabled. Moving.

Hi, I'm making hyperlinks. They work for the main page of the webpage, but when I'm trying to redirect the hyperlink to a "sub page" of the webpage it is still going to the main page. (allthough I'm pasting the complete url address)

Hi! first of all, thank you so much for your help.
I don't know about that panel you are talking about.
what I do is RIGHT CLICK, INTERACTIVE, NEW HYPERLINK, and a window pops up, where I paste the address (images).
Where says URL I paste the complete address that the "sub page" gives me.
Is that correct? (for the main page of the wabepage works correctly)
    thanks!!!

  • Show the company I work for that we should have one cluster

The company I work for have several projects where we are going to use RAC. The issue I'm having is they want each database to be in its own cluster hardware. I'm trying to show then that we should cluster all the hardware together and make small RAC database in the one cluster.
Does any know of anyone that has written a go doc how why you should have one cluster versus multiple clusters.
Example of what they are thinking of doing note this is all separate hardware cluster1 will not be cluster with cluster2 I'm try to show them if we cluster it all together we get more power and may not need so much hardware:
    Project 1
    cluster1_dev
    2 nodes
    cluster2_qa
    4 nodes
    cluster3_prd
    4 nodes
    Project 2
    cluster2_dev
    2 nodes
    cluster2_qa
    4 nodes
    cluster2_prd
    4 nodes
What I’m proposing is the following setup:
    Cluster_dev
    3 nodes
Project1 instance cluster on all 3 nodes
Project2 instance cluster on all 3 nodes
    Cluster_qa
    6 nodes
Project1 instance cluster on all 6 nodes
Project2 instance cluster on all 6 nodes
    Cluster_prd
    6 nodes
Project1 instance cluster on all 6 nodes
Project2 instance cluster on all 6 nodes

I am always impressed by choosing rac without having expressed what types of failures to be covered.
maybe you really don't need rac ...
moreover, rac is imho really not 2 nodes oriented but well grid oriented.
a lot of small server in the same cluster is for me the way to go or the the way to think.
Services features were introduced to allow one rac db to be shared by multiple applications.

  • How is the After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update working for you?

The After Effects CS5 (10.0.1) update is available. It fixes a lot of crashes, errors, and other problems, and it adds some capabilities for RED (R3D) footage and the Apply Color LUT effect.
After you've installed the update, let us know how it's working for you.

    Todd,
I installed it over the weekend after seeing it mentioned in my RSS feed and have been using it heavily for a few days. The updater launched from within AE did not find the update. I had to go to the download page that was linked to in the feed. Installed from that download with no problem on Windows 7.
AE 10.0.1. has crashed on me twice over the weekend. Both times I was scrubbing through a composition that uses a pretty intense plug-in (Video Gogh). I would submit a bug report to Adobe or the plug-in developer, but the problem has not been repeatable. Also, an AE composition dynamically linked to PPro may have made PPro crash. I wish I could give more details on that but I was, as usual, trying to do too many things at one time.
Other than that, everything went smoothly during many hours of compositing in AE.

  • How is the New Forum Structure Working for You?

Just wanted to ask how the breakout of CS5 and then other PrPro/Pr versions is working for you.
Though not all that warm to the idea, I have to say that it seems to be working nicely. I have seen few posts in the wrong spots, though some might be better suited for Hardware.
My fears have NOT been realized, so I am glad that the powers that be never consulted me, as I would probably have turned thumbs down. Early observations indicate that I would have been wrong.
    What do you think?
    Hunt
PS - remember, "points" are at stake here folk!

Well, since I was one of those who asked that CS5 be in a separate section, I like the fact that it now IS by itself
As far as posts in the wrong place... that will always happen and all we can do is continue to point people in the right direction
I scan for new messages in ALL the Premiere sub-Fora, and will continue to do so to keep learning

  • Does the RSS feed for Dev Forums work for you?

Does the RSS feed (lower right corner of the screen)
    http://discussions.apple.com/rss.jspa?feed=rss/rssmessages.jspa?forumID=727
work for you? I tried to add the URL to one of the RSS readers on my iPhone but none could identify a working feed. Any hints?

Well, I think they just got the RSS image link wrong. The correct link is:
    http://discussions.apple.com/rss/rssmessages.jspa?forumID=727
    Works fine in all readers.
(I still wonder how others have gotten the link I initially posted working... )

  • Vinagre vnc client -- does the scaling work for you?

    hello fellaz,
i tried vinagre from aur (both vinagre and vinagre-tweak) but scaling option was disabled, although i think it should work (gtk-vnc has been compiled with --with-gtkglext=yes). does it work for you?
    thanks for reply,

my self-built packages don't work with scaling aswell.
however, vinagre should be in extra anyway, as it is officially part of gnome 2.22, so it should be in gnome-extra.
