Making the switch - but to where, and when?

Hi All
I'm a graphic designer who's been PC based for many years and am now ready to make the switch to a Mac. Almost 100% of my work is done with Adobe products and i'm looking at getting my new computer around the same time as when CS3 comes on the market. I do have a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone on here can help me out with...
My current machine has an AMD Athlon 64 processor, 2.40 GHz with 2GB Ram. I have an 80GB & 120GB harddrive with an increasingly unpredictable Windows XP. My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce4 MX4000.
I work with Photoshop and Illustrator for the majority of my work and providing i'm not doing anything too radical I get good performance out of both. I also work with After Effects 7, Premiere Pro 2.0 and Cinema 4D 10 and get satisfactory performance from these programs.
As my work is taking me further into the motion graphics and video side of things, I'm wanting my new machine to be optimized for these programs.
My main question is - will I achieve better results and faster rendering time with an iMac or will I need to go up to a MacPro to really see a difference?
I'm also wondering when is the best time to buy? The CS3 Master collection ships from June 1st - but I understand that Apple is coming out with its new operating system later this year. Should I hold out for this? Will there be new machines?
Ultimately I want to get everything ASAP but I also don't want to make such a large purchase only to have a better or more suitable model released soon after.
Would greatly appreciate any help/guidance in making this decision!

Hi, if you look on page 5 you will see pretty much the questions you asked & the replies. In addition you will get answers from our tekky savvy mac users.
Mac's have a learning curve, not steep but definately there, the nuances of the OS are easily learnable just takes a little time. I am a professional photographer and switched to macs 2 years ago, no regrets. Buy Applecare, it's the best deal since sliced bread..I also keep my PC (Prostar) updated and ready to use as back-up...L

If MacKeeper corrupted the Recovery partition then even I underestimated its potential for damage. Garbage "cleaning" apps will cause misery but I have not found that the Recovery partition to have been affected by using MacKeeper or anything like it. I doubt that it did so, but I have learned not to underestimate the potential for such things to result in system corruption.
Before concluding your Mac has a hardware failure, try booting OS X Internet Recovery by holding command option r on startup (three fingers). That will force your iMac to bypass the Recovery partition altogether, and convey the ability to create a new one.
An Internet connection will be required (wired or wireless).
At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
Assuming the HD remains usable you can then use Disk Utility to erase it. Reinstall OS X, restore your essential software and other files, and don't reinstall the junk.

Thanks for your quick response. I should add....it worked before. When I previously inserted the two DVDs into this remote drive, and I went into finder, I could click on the "remote device" line and see all my saved documents (excel, word, etc) on the DVD and open them on the Mac. Now I cannot see them, when I try to open them on the Mac, nothing happens, nothing is displayed. I just re-tested the remote DVD drive with a CD and, no problem, it opened up the CD via iTunes and I cold play the CD. SO......I know the remote DVD drive (it's an LG by the way) is fine, it's something to do with some settings on my mini mac,especially where I could open it previously. I do not remember changing any settings since then.
When I go into system preferences and click on CD/DVD it gives me options of how to open up a music CD (default is iTunes), a DVD (default is iMovie), etc. The problem is my DVD is all miscellaneious files/documents. I just want to be able to see them in the finder. I also tried to open them via microsoft word, from the remote disk and again, it could not open the drive, even though some of the documents were microsoft word documents. Again, I was able to open them previously and the DVD is not corrupted in any way.
Any additional advice?

Sync works the same way it always has, connect the device, select the content desired to sync and sync.
All the media should be in iTunes already, iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.
If this is a new computer, move the content from the old computer to the new computer.

Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

I downloaded the 30 day free trial of Photoshop on 9/11, but have not been able to open it, or even find it on my computer. I do have the Adobe Create Cloud icon, and when I click it it list PS as downloaded and lets me access tutorials, but that is all.

Hi Homerguy,
If you are using Mac, please open the finder window click on go and choose applications and try to launch Photoshop from there.
If windows, please navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2014 and double click on the Photoshop.exe file.

If you are a Windows user, try temporarily disabling your antivirus and any other anti-whatever that is required with Windows before beginning the process again.

Have you tried connecting it to your computer and restoring the iPod via iTunes?
If iTunes does not see the iPod try placing the iPod in recovery mode and then restoring the iPod. For recovery mode see:
