Making video faster

Hey folks,
i was hoping someone could help me with a small problem. Im making a video on imovie, and i want to speed up a video clip so the person sounds like they are talking like a chipmunk. Im not sure what this process is called, double time maybe, but i was just wondering if someone could tell me how to do it, if you can. thanks

iM08 offers no 'effects' ...
you have mainly two options:
* export project to Garageband, use the 'pitch' effect to raise voice' frequency... this process does NOT speed up the screnery, just chipmonks the speaker ..
* export your clips to iMHD6, use the fast/slow/reverse effect in its Edit/v/fx section .. here, the fast effect speeds up scenery plus raises frequencies ...
for sure, many other audio processors offers a pitching, Audacity, AmazingSlowDowner, and my preferred slow-mo app *JES Deinterlacer* ... : http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/slowmowithim08

  • Making video chat faster

I have SL and my mom has Leopard. I am using a fast Cable connection, and she has ordinary DSL. Sometimes video and audio gets choppy. Both of us are on Wi-Fi using Intel Macs. Anyway you can suggest we try to make video faster?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi,
iChat 2 came out when many "Broadband" services gave about 128k upload.
With iChat 3 came 4 way Video chats and the need for having a faster service both up and down.
iChat 3 and 4 used the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming as the Internet speed.
In iChat 2 and 3 this got read as 0kbps when using the Automatic setting.
In iChat 4 the Automatic setting was changed to be read by iChat as 384k.
(the top Intranet/LAN setting was also suspect in Tiger for iChat 3)
Hence we used to recommend setting the Quicktime Streaming to 1.5Mbps to "Get the most" out of any network Connection you had.
What any of this did was effectively cap everyone to a max of 1.5Mbps upload if their internet connection gave them a faster service.
This would mean that the fastest Buddy was only about 4 times as fast as the slowest Buddy (with some people possibly 1/8th of the fastest) based on common speeds at that time.
With iChat 5 there is no cap by System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming as the setting does not exist. iChat "Sees" the whole Internet speed you have that could be many 10s of Mbps and in turn vary greatly from your Buddy
This is turn means that you can be many times faster in upload than your Buddy has in Download (Let alone Upload)
In reality Upload is the limiting factor.
What we have now is speed differences that can exceed the iChat Buffering which at the minor end leads to Audio Drop outs and at the top end Video pixelation.
On top of that if a Buddy is struggling, processor wise, to deal with a data intensive download (tends to be a bigger pic per frame and sent more frames per second) then their end may not have Processor cycles to get good pic out.
What we are suggesting will, in fact, cap both ends to a figure that we know iChat works at and is probably inside the upload speed of either end and hopefully this will smooth out the pic/video.
A real case of Less is More.

    Hello Cezar
Issue as described you should clarify with your local dealer or Toshiba service directly. I have Satellite A200 too and my notebook is pretty quiet and described issue is not normal for me.
Sorry but to say for sure if there is something strange or not I should have the notebook in front of me. Second issue with battery is also strange and it is definitely the second reason for contacting ASP.

    Hi,
OK. Following instructions, I've uninstalled the old Flash Player and installed the right one, and videos are now playing. Thanks for pointing me to the other posts on this site. YouTube and other videos are now playing
Some of the videos still play jerkily (they don't stream evenly). A few stream evenly once they've been allowed to buffer fully. (I think I'm using these terrms correctly.) Is this solely caused by low bandwidth, or is there something—an adjustment of some kind—that I can do with Flash Player to have online videos stream evenly, even from the moment I start them?
As I mentioned, to bypass this uneven streaming while watching online, I download the videos and watch them usually using Quicktime Player 7.6.4. Still, they don't always play evenly, but for the most part do.
I've just tested bandwidth and I'm told:
    5.63 Bbps Download speed
    0.63 Mbps Upload speep

I want to zoom while making video with ipad

I apologies. I was under the assumption that others reading my question would think if I was talking about iMovie I have it on my iPad and I never clarified thank you for pointing that out. I do have iMovie and had iMovie the whole time in my attempts including the one where I looked through iTunes in my PC while my iPad was hooked up via USB , was in my iPads apps looking at the list and iMovie was not one of the listed. But even if it was how is this going to help me?

  • Making video start fast and slow down?

I am trying to avoid doing this in FCP because I know speed changed video can be jumpy...
Basically I have video that pans and I want to start fast, lets say 600% speed and slow down just at the end to 100%.
I know that in motion it doesn't work with percentages, so how's the best way to go about this. I tried variable speed, but It starts slow then speeds up...
Also, I would like to add a motion blur, is this achieved with activating motion blur in the render tab?
    Thanks

Well, I had a bunch of videos that I overlaid with mattes to make it look like one continuous video... But the resulting video was 30 seconds and I needed it to be 5 seconds..
So I exported a QT movie and re-imported it into Motion. Then I just went to the Timing property and changed the speed to variable. This gave me a key frame at the beginning and end of the clip. So I just dragged the keyframe at the end to 150th frame (for 5 seconds).
But since I wanted to slow down the video just a tad at various points, I added a key frame to each area I wanted to slow. I then went into the Keyframe editor and made the interpolation to bezier, then just rotated the bezier to be horizontal. This slowed the video just a tad in each part.
I also changed the frame blending to motion blur blending.
Pretty straight forward once I got the hang of it.

  • What is the best MacBook for a UNI student studying design (also making videos, websites, etc)?

I'm starting university next year and am wanting to study design. I also make videos and websites and what not on the side. I've never had a Mac before, I have an iPhone but have never owned or used a MacBook but I hear they're the best for graphics, etc. Which MacBook out of the all would be the best for designing and video making, etc?
    Thanks!

I have a late 2011 MBP with 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD - it may not be as fast as the most expensive Retina model, but it's pretty close. I use the Adobe CS6 Design & Web Premium suite but I'm not much into video editing. However, were I you...
I'd get the top-of-the-line non-Retina MacBook Pro and opt to spend the extra $100US on the HD antiglare screen. You can upgrade the RAM to 16GB yourself and, if you decide that the drive that comes with it is just too slow, you can always upgrade to a SSD. I'd also look at a good external monitor for your 'home' studio - I have the Apple Thunderbolt Display (which I've not even taken out of the box yet) but I'd ask for recommendations for a less expensive monitor if you don't need all the extra ports on the ATD.
That's my recommendation - video editing can take a toll on the CPU and, particularly, the hard drive. That's why I recommend the fastest processor you can get and the possible move to a SSD.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • How can I save space on my Macbook Pro after making videos on iMovie & FCP ? Should I delete my files after?

Okay so I make a lot of videos on my mac for my Youtube Channel. I have quite a few projects and movies from Movie, but ive recently switched over to Final Cut pro and the rest is history. However im running out of space on my hard drive, FAST! to the point i cant even edit my new video. Silly me for not paying attention to the warning signs (ie slow computer duh...)
So my question is, is it smart to delete my projects, events and original videos once ive exported and uploaded the the final video? I think Im quite the hoarder when it comes to these things like im worried i might need it for something. Is there anyone who has a YT channel or makes videos regularly relate to what im saying and what are your ways on saving space and what you do once you've finished your project?????
Thanks a bunch if you can help I just need someone else's insight and opinion to help me decide what to do....

There are really two answers depending on how much money you are willing to spend, and how much editing you plan to do on the footage.
Option 1) You can rely on your Digital8 tapes for backup, and re-import them if you ever need the footage again. You can delete your event files (once you have completed all Projects). Once you have SHARED your projects in all sizes you need, the projects are in a compressed format. Once you delete the Event files, no further editing will be possible.
Option 2) Keep the Event Files on a large external hard drive, and back it up. This way, you have maximum flexibility for future editing, future new projects, and you don't have to worry about the lengthy import from a nearly obsolete tape format again. I recommend Option 2. External drives are relatively cheap these days, and your time is probably more valuable than the cost of an external drive and the cost of the re-import.

  • I just bought the new 2014 Mac Mini 2.6 8Gig for $699 at the Apple Store Online. I want to use it for light editing in iMovie making video's for YouTube, I couldn't afford the higher priced models. Is this going to work for me? I hope so..

Will this do basic video editing for YouTube Video's in iMovie, I hope so.  It's all I could afford.
Just under $800 with tax and Applecare.
    It's stock 2.6 8gigs 1 terabyte hard drive.
I have two monitors DVI that I plan to hook to it.
I know it's weak but will it get me going without too much hardship.
I want to grow into the more high priced computers and Final Cut Pro later on.
I know I will need a bigger computer then.
    Thanks

There are many people using the basic (i5) 2012 MacMini and even older ones to edit complex films in FCP X so you should have no problems.
I have been using FCP 7 and FCP X since they came out on my 2008 iMac Core 2 Duo and am thinking of getting the same model as you rather than pay the astronomic price for a new 27" iMac.
The performance won't be quite as fast but it will be at least 4 times faster at rendering than my old iMac.

  • If i go to high res (720p or higher) my screen turns green and the video fast forwards to the end.

    Hi,
I have windows 7 64 bit and use mozila firefox 15.0.1
I have got the problem that when i select higher resolution in videos (such as on youtube) that at 480p it will run for a while but then just stops even though the buffering is already complete.
If i go to higher resolutions like 720p or 1080p the video will run for a while again but then the screen goes green and the movie fast forwards to the end preventing me to watch movies without problems at higher res.
If u want more information about my problems or know a solution pls tell me.
    Manny thanks,
    Avalondra.

  • IPhoto 9 plus all photos in finder are making constant fast beep sounds, flashing & frozen.  What happened

Few days ago Mac Mail started making fast, loud, continuous beeping sounds while I was writing a long document. The Mail program started flashing, "vibrating," and froze. I had to force quit and lost that email (right - I should have saved it, but didn't).  I tried to re-create the document in Pages and the same thing happened.  Then I tried to recreate it in Word.  Same thing. (may sound nuts to just keep trying new programs, but this was an urgent document.  Figured I could get it done, then focus on fixing the problem)
When I finally got things working again by re-starting multiple times and using Disk Utility, I evenutally opened iPhoto. After working with that program for several hours, I tried to use "share, "which creates an email with a jpeg. The same beeping and flashing started again. I had to shut down the computer. Next day everything seemed OK.  No problems for 3 days.
Tonight I was working with several programs, all doing fine.  Then I opened iPhoto and it immediately started the fast beeping and wouldn't let me access any of my MANY photos. Had to force quit. So I tried to access photos I saved in Finder.  Every saved photo (I have hundreds in Finder) would beep and flash continuously when I clicked on it's icon, even without opening it.
I can't find anything online about this situation. Some articles and forums talk about 3 beeps having a certain meaning. That's not what this is. It's continuous loud rhythmic beeps, flashing and I can barely shut down the program when that's going on.
Background: right before this started, my HD was very full and giving me warnings, so I deleted numerous file.  It's possible I could have deleted something that should NOT have been deleted. I also started in PRAM mode.  If I deleted something, I don't know how to tell what's missing. Also, iPhoto is very full and gave me warnings not to add photos. My Mac is 5 years old and running pretty fast. I installed Mountain Lion several months ago.
Has anyone experienced this? Help!! I don't want to lose my photos!

Running with a very full HD is very, very bad.
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on. Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Then, frankly, telling us you deleted "numerous file" but don't know what you deleted, really means that we can't help.
It's very likely that your Library is damaged from being run on an overfull disk. But you'll need at least as muh disk space again for repair it.
So, you need to get an external HD or two, move some data off that machine to make room. You may also need to reinstall your OS as you're not sure what you have deleted. After you've got your Os working you can try fix iPhoto.

  • Video faster than audio when use Adobe Media Encoder to convert f4v to mp4

I am using Adobe Captivate 5 on a  mac record a demonstration, and I have published my project to .f4v. Now I am using Adobe Media encoder to convert the .f4v file to .mp4 (to play on an ipod). The output LOOKS good, but the video is running much faster than the audio. To be clear, the audio is running at the correct pace, but the video is going by much too quickly.

From Captivate, I tried changing the fps to a variety of speeds (12, 20, 30, 40, 60) when publishing to f4v. Then in Adobe Media Encoder, when I converted to mp4, I tried keeping the fps the same as the source f4v, reducing it, or increasing it.  After all these experiments, I found that changing the fps in Adobe Media Encoder had no effect at all. Only changing the fps in the source f4v had an effect.  Reducing it to 12 made the probelm worse (the video went by even faster), and increasing it as high as 60 made a SLIGHT improvement, but not enough to get things in sync. Changing the key frame distance in AME had no effect.
