Making weird beeping noises

Does anyone know why an ipod mini might be making weird beeping noises. It makes like 9 beeping noises in a row, each note lower than the one previous. And it just keeps repeating this same 9 beeps. ??? Things seem to be working properly, but I worry that there is some kind of problem. Any help would be lovely .
Thanks,
Jamie

I recently restored my ipod. I completely erased all the songs off of it & everything. It still beeps. There doesn't seem to be much of a correlation of the beeping with anything. It usually does it right when I plug it into my computer. It does it quite frequently when plugged in - usually when I try to play certain songs on my iTunes. I tried deleting the songs that make it beep , but it doesn't get rid of the problem because sometimes the songs make it beep, sometimes it doesn't. While it is beeping, I can't do anything in iTunes - it totally locks up. When it beeps when it's not plugged into the computer, it's usually when I select a song to play - no music is played and after the beeping stops, it skips the song I originally chose & goes to the next song. I'm not sure what to do from here. Should I delete all the songs off of my computer, reformat it again? I'd rather not... for many of the songs I have, the only copies I have are on the computer and it would take way too long to put them all on CD - so I'd rather not have to do that. Let me know if you have any idea on what I can do to remedy this problem. Thanks, Jamie

  • Weird beeping noises through front 1/8" jack (after wake from sleep)

    Hi,
I am experiencing a really weird problem on my month-old Mac Pro. Whenever I put the computer to sleep, and subsequently wake it up, I get troubled by weird beeping noises coming through whatever headphone/speaker is plugged in to the front headphone jack. These will seemingly randomly occur in either the left or right speaker.
The weird thing about these beeps is that they only occur after a sound has just stopped playing (doesn't matter the source, it can be after a system sound, a new mail sound, after playing a song in iTunes, ...), but they don't appear after every sound. What I mean is that I can play the same sound 10 times over, and the beeping noise will or will not occur completely randomly. Now normally the beeps are very short (and slightly annoying), but sometimes this beep will keep on beeping at a constant tone. The only way to get rid of it (temporarily) is to play a sound through the headphone/speaker, for example by increasing the volume so that the little 'tick'-sound plays or by dis- and then reconnecting the headphone/speaker.
I'm pretty certain that it isn't a software related problem, because once I have a constant beep going I can switch to my line-out on the back of the Mac and turn on the speakers connected there, without them being afflicted (I also never experienced this problem with sound playing via the back line out). What's more, the beeping sound will even then continue to be audible in the headphone connected to the front jack.
There doesn't seem to be any constant factor in this behavior, except that it only occurs after waking the computer from sleep. By now I have already had the front panel replaced, as the Apple reps thought it might be a faulty headphone jack, but to no avail. The matter is ofcourse complicated because I can't reproduce the problem on the fly, because of the random occurences, thus making it hard for the service people to actually get an idea what might be wrong.
As I don't feel like missing my computer again for a while, i thought I'd ask the collected wisdom on this forums if anyone has experienced a similar problem and, if that's the case, if they were perhaps able to find out what the exact cause of this behavior was?
    Thx in advance,
    Tim

Ah bummer (and here I was hoping it could be easily solved) .
I'll still try a fresh system install in a few days time, to make absolutely sure it isn't software-related (against better judgement perhaps in the light of your findings, but at least I'll be able to tell support its definitely not an sw problem). If indeed the problem persists I guess there won't be any other choice than to contact support again (But since I can't afford the computer not to be available for the coming 2 months I guess I'll have to bear it for the time being, which in turns also means I won't be able to let you know if it got fixed until I'm able to bring her in).
Oh and fyi, I also have a second hard-drive installed (Seagate Barracuda 500Gb, same as the factory installed primary one), but that cannot be the cause of the beeping, as I actually bought it because of this problem (to backup my important files while my Mac went in for service the first time). So we can't blame these poor drives for our problem .
Anyway, definitely thanks for chiming in (makes me feel a little bit better knowing that I'm at least not the only one experiencing this annoying problem, although obviously I wished I shouldn't have to feel better about this ) and I'll keep you updated on any further steps made towards solving this problem, even though it may take a while as explained above.
    Cheers!

  • TS1382 my ipod classic is making weird ticking noises

My ipod classic keeps turning on and off by itself, and is making weird ticking noises. What do I do!?

The ticking noise is the sound of the hard drive being started up and the stopped. This is normal.
What do you mean by "turning on and off by itself"? Do you mean the ticking noises (which is normal) or do you mean the display turns on and off, or do you mean the music turns on and off?

    Syamak,
You didn’t specify where the beeping noise is coming from.
If it’s coming through your speakers, you could try to update your audio drivers since it’s possible they’re incorrectly sending a signal to the speakers as the audio chipset enters standby.
If the noise is coming from the motherboard, you’ll need to take a closer look at your system’s configuration or contact the manufacturer.
    I hope this helps.

  • My Macbook Air shut down on the screen and is making a beeping noise every second. I tried charging it up unsuccessfully.

Please help. I was watching netlix last night and my computer just went dark. It began making a beeping noise every second. It would not turn on or all the way off. I tried charging it which changed nothing--not the screen nor the beeping.

if its continuous it cant be every 3 seconds, logically
1 beep  = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable

  • Charger making a beeping noise and not charging.

Hi all, I have a problem with my 6 month old computer. The charger is making a constant beeping noise when plugged in and switched on.
It doesn't charge as well. I don't believe the battery has been overworked yet.
Has anyone any help, advice or tips please.
    Thank you. Best regards, Sarah.

    Hello
I agree with the user above. You should contact nearest authorized service provider to get a new AC/DC adaptor and let the guys check your notebook. Maybe this problem is related to the notebook too so you should ask for professional help.
If your notebook is only 6 months old, you will get a new adaptor for free I think because its a warranty case.
    Good luck! :)

  • New RAM and hard drive won't connect to computer.  It's still making the beeping noise.  Any ideas?

My computer stopped working and I thought it was my RAM and hard drive so I bought a new one of each of these.  However, when I tried turning my computer back on after replacing them, it still made the beeping noise.  I am clueless.  Does anyone know what could be the cause and how to fix it.  Thanks!!

  • Optical Drive making a beeping noise

This is really starting to drive me crazy. My macbook pro will every hour or so make a quick beeping and clicking noise near the optical drive. I dont have any apps open that would be trying to check to see if there is a disc and there are no discs in the drive when this happens. I can burn dvd/cd just fine its just that noise that is really starting to bother me I have had this since I got the computer from day one? Anyone else experience this?? Thanks!!

I have the same beeping noise but I can't tell where it is coming from exactly. Doesn't seem like it is the speakers though. It does seem to be front right corner somewhere near the optical drive. Mine is not very often so it is hard to trouble shoot.
My DVD drive also goes through a very noisy start up cycle, three times, each time I wake up the computer. A brand new (one week) 15.4" 2.53 GHz MBP. Does yours do this as well?

Is it constantly beeping or is it beeping when you place it on the touchstone? If you place it on the touchstone and it beeps this is expected behavior. Also note that you could be bumping the device shifting it off the charger and then back on thus the beeping noise telling you that it has been realigned again properly and is charging properly.

  • Basic Voicemail making weird siren noise when dialed into

For some reason whenever I try to access my voicemail, it just makes a weird siren noise (sorta like a police siren) and never connects. Anyone who calls my phone and gets to my voicemail also hears this noise. I can successfully change the voicemail password via My Verizon, but still can't access the actual voicemail. This has been happening for over a year now, and I just recently upgraded my phone but the problem wasn't fixed. I forgot to mention this at the VZW store when I got the phone, so I am hoping someone here can help.
Both phones are just plain feature phones (current is a Samsung Gusto).
    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Over a year? I would have been on it the first time it happened! But anyway, call customer service 800-922-0204 or *611 from your cell phone, and let them know that your voicemail is glitchy. It may be a simple fix.
You can also use YouMail - free - and bypass Verizon's VM service altogether.

  • Macbook Pro (2012) making weird growling noise?

It's only been about 2 weeks since I purchased my Macbook Pro 13. The first week of operation was dandy and everything was running smoothly and soundly. The machine was silent no matter what programs I was running.
Starting this week, I've had a problem with it making some weird noise. I can only describe it as a growling noise. Like when you're hungry and your stomach starts to grumble a little? It's coming from the lower right hand corner of the computer, to the right side of the trackpad. I'm not sure if it's something I should be concerned about? I'm just a bit worried because the laptop is new and I don't want any serious problems to arise. Is it worth taking into the genius bar to check out?
Here's my crappy video on the sound it's making.
    http://youtu.be/xN4n2rOr2E0
The sound is very apparent around 0:30

Had it been a constant humming, I would have said a fan was dirty, but this is definitely the sound of an HDD doing its seeks as expected ("seek" is the computer term for when a disk drive head is being moved to and fro across the platters to locate a specific bit of data). Some brands of drives are much noisier than others and it is a normal sound. All do this in some form or other. If it increases over time, then it is a sign of impending failure. Open Disk Utility, click on the HDD device (NOT the Macintosh HD volume) and check the S.M.A.R.T. status, in the bottom part of the window. If it is anything different from "Verified", it will need replacement ASAP. Or if it is bothersome, take it to the Bar anyway.

  • My iPod is making weird ticking noises

I bought a new 30GB iPod (video)about a week ago. Everything works but it seems to delay quite often, especially when changing songs. Sometimes it just won't switch songs at all when I click the next or previous button. Also, you can occasionally hear strange ticking noises.. like the inside of a clock or the sound a computer makes when its trying to do a lot at once. This happens when scrolling, changing songs, etc. I'm just wondering if this is normal or if any other owners of this iPod have experienced it. Because my iPod is new I want to figure this out and see if I should call and try to get a new one to avoid further problems in the future. Thanks for your help

Yeah, this noise is made by the head of the hard
drive which switches from one position to the other
    when you change tracks.
Don't worry, it's perfectly normal for an iPod with a
    hard disk.
    hmm....not exactly.
i got my ipod replaced twice in the same night b/c of this issue. the apple genius took it in the back room and moved it left to right a few times while it was being restored and he noticed the "grind-like" noises. he came back to me and said it definitely wasn't normal && finally swapped it out with one without the strange noises.
i believe apple uses 2 different types of hard drives in their ipods, one of which make the weird noises.
so, it's a faulty ipod....get it replaced before your 14 days are up!!
    cheers-

  • My daughter dropped her MVP and the screen is black and making a beeping noise

    What can I do?

What beep pattern is it making? 3 Beeps then stops then 3 again? If so that is a RAM problem. But you have more than just a RAM problem if the screen does not light up at all.
You need to take it into an Apple store to be fully diagnosed and an estimate given on the repairs. You might be better off buy a new system.
