Malfunction with notifications sounds.

when I receive a notification, my iPhone 4 starts geting crazy during the ring tone... Repeating the sound for a while.

Each app has it's own notification settings. Run the Facebook app and then touch Menu > Settings. Turn off notification or change the ringtone for that app individually. For SMS, run the Messaging app and go into settings and set the notification the way you want it.

No, sounds like when you dropped it an cracked the screen it may have also damaged the logic board or the repair person damaged a cable.

  • My Razr HD will no longer play notification sounds after updating with 4.4.2, it also doesn't use the ringtone that I have selected.

I've tried setting different ringtones, and notification sounds, but it still doesn't work.  Any other ideas?

Thanks for confirming CasMcc. Are you stating the notifications are working now? What specific notifications are you having difficulties with? You said calls, messages and media are now working. If something changed it would have to be on the device itself. This issue would not be account related.

  • Since IOS 6 update, malfunction with auto rotate and sounds

Hello. I'm wondering if others have experienced a problem since updating their IPads. Since the update, I've lost the dual functionality of auto-rotate and sounds. I can only have 1 of the functions operate as per norm.  If I want sounds (for keyboard clicks/games/etc.) my screen will not auto orient. Vice versa for auto orientation. Normal rotation is only possible with NO SOUND for the previously mentioned apps. I've performed reboots, and also endeavoured to make the obvious corrections in the General Settings fields. When I uncheck "MUTE"...it automatically places a checkmark in the lock rotation field!!!
Can anyone offer a solution, to what i perceive, as a software issue?

    Maybe this will help.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Itunes bug with MSN  notification sounds

just thought i would report this, considering the fourms is the only way i know of reporting bugs. but i noticed a problem with itunes7 . whenever i recive a notification sound from Windows Live Messanger and im playing music on my itunes, my music skips. the only thing i can do is turn off all notification sounds on msn so itunes playback doesnt skip.
off topic question... how do i change my display name for the fourms? (I really have no idea where to post this question)

This is a non fixable problem. I pretty much know it can't be fixed by user intervention.
The problem lies when something other than iTunes tries to use your soundcard. Soundevents in Windows, games you're playing while using iTunes, anything having to do with the soundcard.
The only way you can bypass this is if you disable sound events or any other sound card use when using iTunes. Basically making sure that iTunes is the only application using the sound card.
We definitely need a fix. Fast.

  • Push Notification Sound - Easy Question

I have my gmail account push email through microsoft exchange with my iPad to get gmail, google calendar, and google contacts synced. I was just recently fiddling with this, and the mail notification sound now "dings" twice exactly when I receive this message. This is great, but I'm surprised that it makes the sound twice because I could have sworn it only made the sound once before I changed some settings a day ago.
Can anyone else verify that push email notifications ding twice rather than once?

I believe that I may have just determined where my problem was originating. Haha, of course it wasn't iOS that was malfunctioning - I had previously set my Mail to push sync my Gmail Inbox and select other labels that I frequent. If I received an email that also auto labelled itself then I would hear the ding twice, and if it was from someone random it would only ding once.
To fix this, I set my iPad to sync with gmail's inbox only, so now it functions as per default settings, which works well for me.

  • Notification sounds not correct

I thought I posted this earlier this week, but it's nowhere to be found, so here it goes again. I have an iPhone 5 with iOS 7, but this problem started with my iPhone 4S and has continued. All of my notifications play the correct sound, except for Facebook and Twitter. When I receive a Facebook notification, no sound at all plays (except for when I receive a Facebook message). This started after I did an iOS update (not a major one) on my 4S. I have the sound for Twitter notifications set to "Tweet," but it plays the "Tri-Tone" sound instead -- which was also the case on my old iPhone. I have gone in and changed the settings to a bunch of different tones, then back to the ones I want, but to no avail. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Hey, were you able to come up with ANY info on this problem?
i have had this problem since i got my iphone5 in february/2013, and its continued onto my new iPhone5S.
The best i could come up with, through research and first-hand experience is that the "Facebook" and "twitter" tone options DO work, but only when it is an OUTGOING action YOU PERFORMED (ie a tweet that YOU posted, or a facebook post that YOU posted)
and since newer iphones have facebook and twitter integration, The facebook and Twitter tones also work for facebook Chat/messages that you receive, and twitter direct/instant messages that you receive.
As for the other types of notifications that you get from facebook and twitter (ie. Wall posts, being tagged in photos, twitter mentions/@replies, or notifications from people you are following{if turned on})
:::these notifications seem to fall into the same  category of MOST notifications from ANY App that you download from the app store.
It seems thats MOST apps do not have a specific notification sound programmed, and ANY notifications that you have selected to receive are carried out with a "default" Apple Notification tone (which appears to be the classic Tri-Tone).
I have arrived at this conclusion because in the Settings->Sounds menu, only Device Functions are listed and thus able to have their Tone Changed.
ALSO; in Settings->Notification Center, You will notice that when you click on the various 'apps' listed:
*****'Stock' Apps (Messages, Phone, Facetime, Reminders, Calender etc.) have sub-options to change the name of the 'Sound' 's Tone (which appears there)
*****while ALL OTHER Downloaded apps only have a sub-option slider/knob to turn the 'Sound' either 'ON' or 'OFF'
Since there is no option to select a 'Tone' then it is safe to assume that the activated 'Sound' is the Device's default tone.
THEREFORE...if there is no options -WITHIN THE APPLICATION ITSELF- to change the Sound or Tone of their Notifications...the question/objective Now seems to be: How can we change our Device's default Notification Sound?

  • Is there a way to lengthen the notification sound

My husband gets texted at night when he's on call for business and needs to be woken by it...the notification sound is rather short and may not wake him.  Is there a way to make it play longer or to make it go off again if not answered?
    Thanks!

There's also Missed Call from the market. I don't use it, but know a number of people who've been very happy with it.

  • To everyone with IOS6 Sound related issues & Others

If you are facing a problem of not having any system sounds, notification sounds, no calls or other software sound related issues I'd suggest you read below it's a stupidly simple fix and it should solve most software issues after an immediate iOS6 update:
After updating unplug the phone from your computer and leave the phone alone for 5-10 minutes, if you still have problems: reboot, wait a few minutes and all sound related problems should be fixed.
When I updated to iOS 6 I had lost my system sounds, so I unplugged from the computer, rebooted the phone and still no go. I decided to just let the system "settle in" for a bit, let it lock and when I unlocked after 5-10 minutes sounds were back and everythings up and running again.

Well, to break it down. After my sounds finally came back (2nd time losing them) last night I decided to restore the phone in itunes. I did it twice. First time I backed up my data. Second time I restored it as a factory iPhone. Both times guess what NO SOUNDS! I also realized that last night I had lost my sounds after charging my phone and unplugging it from the data cord. I still have ringtones (when someone calls), but text messages, emails, and any other alert tones do not work. I cannot turn the volume up or down with the side buttons and also music does not play. It doesn't even have a slide bar at the bottom.
I am on the phone with apple care now. They seem to not be aware of the problem at all.
While I was on the phone with them my sounds ended up coming back, imagine that. Hopefully every time I charge my phone I am not going to have this issue.

  • Ipod all of a sudden not communicating with Bose sound system

I am having trouble with my ipod communicating with my Bose music system. First off please let me mention that I have tried all troubleshooting procedures for both the ipod and the Bose system and nothing has help. I do believe that it is a malfunction with my ipod as my spouse has an iphone and it works like a charm while connected to the Bose system. Up until about two weeks ago I was able to enjoy my music without earphones or the ipod hooked to me, now I'm back to hooking the ipod and earphones up. About two weeks ago while my ipod was connected to the Bose system it started changing songs half way through and if I tried to control it by remote, buttons on the dock or the ipod controls it would just freeze up and no sound would come out. I am unable to forward to another song, change volume or even turn it on and off while docked in the Bose system. This problem just started before that I had no trouble with this. I have the latest update for my ipod so I shouldn't be having this trouble. I have turned it on and off and the same for the Bose system and have followed all the troubleshoothing tips and nothing has been resolved. As I said before my spouse's iphone works excellent on the dock this only happens with my ipod. With that said I am still able to listen to the music with the earphones with no problems.
Another problem I have noticed is that not all my songs that are downloaded to my ipod are visiable for me to select. Certain songs I have to search for as I cannot select them from title, artist, album, etc..
Please help me as it would be nice to enjoy my music without the ipod and earphone connected to me.

    Try Resetting the iPod
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs or till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/classic/
If the above doesn't work, it could be the earphone jack has been shorted, or clogged up and putting the Dock also in mute. This maybe repaired by 3rd Party iPod service.
    Have a nice day!

  • How to turn off the notification sound in shared photos?

With family in different time zones we would like to turn off the notification sound when new photos arrive in shared photo stream!

Thanks for that - had been looking under the Sounds Settings!

  • Bluetooth connection notification sound

Does anyone know how to turn off the notification sound which plays when the Razr Maxx bluetooth connects with a car system? It is extremely annoying to have this play every time you get in the car and start it especially if you are running errands and make several stops.

Most notifications that come from an app (texts, emails, etc.) can be shut off individually, through that app.  The bluetooth connection notification, however, AFAIK cannot.  The only place it would make sense to be would be, from your homescreen, is menu>settings>wireless & networks>bluetooth settings.  There is also an advanced bluetooth settings on this screen, but my phone (HTC Rezound) does not have an option to turn off that sound in either of these.

  • Weird: getting iphone notification sound when I receive a new Gmail email even though account is deleted on phone?

I've been trying to debug an issue with receiving notification sounds
that I don't want to receive, and I don't know where to go from here -
    I am totally confused.
A couple of days ago I started having a problem where anytime I
received an email I would get a notification sound. I didn't want
that, so I tried turning off all notifications on mail. This didn't
fix the problem, I would still get a sound when receiving a new email.
Next I tried removing my gmail account from the Mail app.
Surprisingly, I still am having the problem with getting a new
notification sound when a new email is received. (I tested by sending
    emails to myself).
Next I tried turning off cell data on the phone, and also removed the
phone's sim card so that I would be sure it was only communicating
over my wifi network that it was connected to. Bluetooth is also
turned off.  I downloaded the Mac OS X Program Eavesdrop[1] and
started watching the network traffic, sent an email, received the
notification sound on my phone, and checked the network wifi traffic.
Surprisingly, there was no connections listed. So how does the iPhone
know a new message was received? This is repeatable.
I had the Gmail app running but not logged in, so I tried quitting
that app and it had no effect: I still received the notification
    sound.
I tried changing the password on my Gmail account and then
tried sending another email, and it still makes the notification sound
    after the email is received!
I have a list of open applications if you're interested in that. I did try turning my iphone on and back off but it still happens.  I realize I could probably fix by re-installing the OS but I'm interested to know what's going on and why.
I have my iPhone connected to my iMac and running Xcode, when the
weird email notification comes in there's this line in the console:
    Nov 23 14:43:16 unknown SpringBoard[15] <Warning>: No alert sound
    found at path 'UILocalNotificationDefaultSoundName'.
    AudioServicesCreateSystemSoundIDWithPath() returned: -1500

    Hi,
I had the same issue for somtimes now and eventually removed the GMail app because the sound notifications I had happened everytime I received an e-mail in my GMail account (including spam).
Since I removed it, no more problem and my battery life is way better !

  • Notification sound is not working properly

I have a problem with the notification sounds wether it was for the sms or chat.
The sound of the notification is not plaid properly, am not sure that i can describe it but try to imagine that the sound was frozen then went on.
It repeats the sound at first then play the rest of the tone.
Hope you got me guys, cause it annoys me and i need a solution.
I have tried another iphone and the sound came out perfectly as i heared when i selected it from the setting.
    Many thanks and best regards,

    You're welcome.
I assume you have checked the volume level when playing music? The iPhone has two volume levels - one for the phone and when listening to songs or other media, and another for the volume for the ringer, alerts, and other sound effects.

  • Notification sounds suddenly quit working...

Last night I was playing a game and turned the sound all the way down using the side volume keys. This morning, I noticed that none of my notifications are working. I still get the vibrate and my phone will ring but no notifications. I've checked all sound settings since and have done a soft reset with no luck.
Anyone experienced this or have a resolution?

I don't know what to advise you then.  I don't personally use notification sounds, so I have them turned off.  I check to see if a notification is pending, open the app and see what I need to see.  In your case, it's more likely a compatibility issue with the App and iOS7, which will likely be addressed in an App update from the App developer.
