Malfunctioning selection arrow (tool)

I can't select things by just clicking inside an object. For example, I have to click on an edge of a rectangle. When it is selected I still can't work flexibly with it. (scaling or moving normally). It acts something like the Direct Select tool, especially with type which I can't just quickly scale to another size the normal way. I have reinstalled the original cd and even reinstalled the original system cd that came with my laptop. After doing this I upgraded to the latest possible version of each, but still no help.
I'm working with a MacBookPro laptop Model 3.1
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo
2 Cores
Speed: 2.4 GHz
L2 Cache
Memory: 2 GB
Mac OS X 10.5.6 (the disk that came with the laptop was 10.5 and I updated to the 10.5.6
Illustrator CS3 (13.0.0)
All legally installed, and with all permissions necessary. (I think I registered the Illust.CS3 but can't remember.)
I hope someone can help as this is slowing up my work horribly. I'm 69 years old, preferring to wear out rather than rust out.
(But I'm not a workaholic... nor am I robbing others of a chance to do my work!)

Dearest Larry,
THANK YOU MORE THAN I CAN TELL. The toggling was the problem.
You've saved me hours of time. I have a deadline tomorrow to show a
sample of a brochure we are producing and I think now I'll be able to make it.
THANK YOU AGAIN, AND AGAIN.
Very sincerely,
Bob Jeffery

  • Why is my arrow tool greyed out?

I am using Elements 12 and went to use my arrow tool and it is greyed out.
    Please advise
    Thank you

    Barbara,
Please excuse my lack of knowledge with Photoshop Elements 12.  I am sorry that I am not understanding your question regarding "an active, un-simplified shape in my image."  The example I can give from previous use of the shape tools including the arrow, is if I scanned a item into Elements I was always able to use the arrow tool.  Now when I open a jpeg picture I select Shape Selection Tool icon on the left side of my screen and all of the shapes such as Eclipse, Custom Shape, Rectangular, Polygon, etc are all useable except the arrow which is greyed out.  This is about the best way I can describe my situation.  I hope I have made myself more clear to you so that I can help you advise me how I can use my arrow tool again as I have in the past.
Again thank you for your help and assistance.
    Hank

  • Photoshop CC tool options popup appears when selecting a tool

I am using Photoshop CC 2014 on my MacBook Pro (2009 - 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5). I have used Photoshop CC before on a different MacBook Pro (2011) from work, but on my own Mac, the tool bar on the left behaves slightly differently.
When I click on a tool, the tool options popup appears and stays until I click on something else or select an option, before I can even select another tool. Please see the attached screen snip.
I am used to it being that I just click on it once to select a tool, without activating the tool options popup. And if I want to see other options that come with that tool, I click and hold to bring up the popup.
It's kind of annoying and slows me down. I looked everywhere, including preferences, to find a way to turn it off. I have not found it.
Has anyone experienced this? Am I crazy?
Is this a OS Mavericks issue?

  • Photoshop Touch crashes after selecting "Wrap" tool for the second time

As title says, when selecting "wrap" tool for the second time, Photoshop Touch crashes. It doesn't matter which images and even after reboot and clearing all the RAM, it constantly crashes only when selected for the second time. I'm using this on Galaxy Note 2 so it really shouldn't have issues with RAM or Processing power. I'm not quite sure about other tools but it should be looked into and hopefully more stable version will be release soon!
    Thank you

    Hi,
We just released an update that should take care of that issue.
    thanks,

  • Help! Adobe crashing on using 'Track Select Forward' tool?

There seems to be a bug in Adobe Premiere Pro CC v8.1, Caravan.
At least once or twice a day when I go to use the 'Track Select Forward' tool, the system crashes?
I am on OSX Yosemite, with 32 GB memory and a AMD Radeon R9 M295X 4096 MB Graphics card.
    Please advise, and thank you!

You can either use Ctrl Click to add clips to your selection across tracks. Or alternatively if you click with either the Move tool or the Time Selection tool in an blank area on any track the Marquee tool becomes available to draw over any clips on any tracks to select any clip that it touches. Or you can Select All Clips/Tracks and Ctrl click to remove them from the selection.
In your practical example first use the Time selection tool to mark the time that you wish to delete. Then use any of the above methods to select the clips that you wish to affect. Finally use Time Selection in Selected Clips in the Ripple Delete menu to remove the unwanted part. Note the other options in the Ripple Delete menu that may also be useful to you.

  • Why does Flash CS5 crash when I try to select a tool?

I am using Flash CS5 on Mac OSX (version 10.6.8). It's the first time I've used Flash but am following a basic tutorial to create a christmas card with a falling snow effect. I've managed to import a picture as a background and add a layer on top which I planned to add the snow onto.
When I try to select any tool from the toolbar, Flash crashes with no explanation. Has anyone else had the same problem? Any ideas how to fix?
    Thanks,

Is the product up to date (Help->Update)? If so, is reinstalling a possibility?
It doesn't appear to be a new issue but in that post the user suggested creating a new user (to clear system prefs). Can you try that?

  • Spinning Ball on selecting any tool

CS6 crashes on selecting any tool. It displays a spinning ball and can only be force quit. It developed this fault spontaneously. Wher should I start searching? I repaired permissions, cleaned up the whole system, uninstalled and reinstalled Photoshop, nothing helps.
    Macpro, Mountain Lion.

    Boilerplate-text:
Are Photoshop and OS fully updated and have you performed the usual trouble-shooting routines (trashing prefs by keeping command-alt-shift/ctrl-alt-shift pressed while starting Photoshop after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed, 3rd party plug-ins deactivation, system maintenance, cleaning caches, font validation, etc.)?

  • Track Select Forward Tool / Track Select Backward Tool

I'm an regular Premiere Pro user doing more work in Audition these days.  One tool I can't find in Audition that I really miss from Premiere Pro is the Track Select Forward Tool / Track Select Backward Tool.  Is there something like this in Audtion?  It is basically a cursor that can select everything from a point forward (or back) on the timeline.  This makes it easy to shift long projects with hundreds of clips, instead of zooming out to drag-select everything.
Practical example is editing an hour long podcast with 100 cuts.  Somewhere in the middle of the project, one second needs to be removed.  It would be nice to make the cut, then use Track Select Forward to select everything from that point on, then slide it to fill the one second gap.
    Thanks,
    jb

  • Quick Selection Brush Tool

I have been trying to follow a fascinating earlier thread about changing the
background of an image. In news:[email protected] , Bob
Warren wrote, "I refined that somewhat again with the selection brush." I
looked this up in Help, where I was confronted with
    Quick Selection Brush tool options
    A. Quick Selection tool
    B. Selection Brush tool
In the Editor, select the Quick Selection Brush tool...
    and on the next page,
In the Editor, select the Selection Brush tool from the toolbox. You may
need to click the Quick Selection Brush tool in the toolbox and select the
Selection Brush from the list of hidden tools that appears.
What is the difference between a Selection Brush, a Selection Brush tool, a
Quick Selection tool and a Quick Selection Brush tool? And which one should
I be using to "refine" a selection?
    Noel

The quick selection tool and the selection brush are grouped together as a subset of the same tool in the toolbox. By default it shows the Quick selection tool. The sentence means that you will see the quick selection tool in the toolbox. To get to the (non-quick) selection brush, you must click the quick selection tool and choose the regular selection brush from the flyout menu.

  • Select Object tool not working

Newbie here. I used the Select Object tool once on a document.
Clicked on the tool on the toolbar.
    Clicked once on the page.
    A blue box appeared.
    Then I double-clocked to edit.
Well. Since then, no amount of clicking is getting the blue box to appear.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I'm trying to remove one line of text. Any better way, perhaps?
    Thanks.
    Acro 8

Are you trying to select graphics, text, or something else. If you select graphics, then typically a double click with bring up the default editor to edit that graphic. It may be that you do not have the editor specified or on your system.
For text, use the text touchup tool.

  • Select/transform tool changes to pan tool when working with text

I have had this problem since Motion 2, and version 3 is no different. Whenever I work with text in Motion, at some point while moving the text in the canvas, the select/transform tool will suddenly change into the Pan tool, and it won't let me do anything else but pan things. I have to close and reopen Motion to correct this. It happens VERY OFTEN, every time I work with text...it get's really annoying haveing to conatantly quit and reopen the program. I lose a lot of time doing that. Has anyone else had this problem? I also have a Powermac G5 that has the same problem so I know it's not the Mac Pro. Any suggestions?

    Sounds familiar.
I searched and saw a couple posts from Patrick that suggested,
"This seems to happen after adjusting text. Simply click on the canvas and press space. The project won't play and the hand will turn into your selected tool."
