Malware found in .MobileBackups/ folder on MacBook Pro

Hi, I ran a virus scan and Malware found in .MobileBackups/ folder as well as Time Machine Backups.  I partitioned the backup drive and deleted all the previous backups, then re-ran the scan.  Now the same virus (Trojan.Script.171700) is showing in the Mobile Backups folder.
I was able to reveal the hidden files through a script change in terminal.  But after I tried to open the hidden MobileBackups folder, got an error saying I did not have permission to open.
So how do I delete these infected files?

Do you know what the path is to these mobilbackups so that I can avoid backing them up and having the malware spread to my external drive and my online backup?
Time Machine doesn't back up the .MobileBackups folder. That is simply another set of backups maintained by Time Machine. See:
What are Local Snapshots?
Further, you are still worrying about these things too much. These are Windows malware, not Mac malware, and even if they were Mac malware, they couldn't affect your Mac unless you opened them. If you insist on removing every piece of malware attached to every spam e-mail from your backups, that will become a tedious daily task that cannot be automated by anti-virus software without corrupting your mailboxes and your backups.
Ignore them. They are not a threat. Even if you have to restore your system from backups, are you then going to go into your restored junk mail folder and start opening things? No.
As to BitDefender, that's not much good on the Mac. When I tested it last year against over 180 malware samples, it only caught about 76% of them. That's a pretty poor detection rate when there really hasn't ever been very much Mac malware.

Either use the Apple ID you used when you originally purchased the applications or you will have to purchase them using your Apple ID. If you did not have the other Apple ID, then you have the applications illegally or they were improperly included with a computer you purchased from someone else.

  • Sampled Sounds "Not Found" After Move to New MacBook Pro

    Hello All,
I moved my Logic 9.7.1 from my old MacBook Pro to my new one via Migration assistant; both are running Lion. A smooth transition in all programs with all files showing in the same folders on both. I key in both my Logic 8 and Logic 9 serial numbers.
The problem is when I use certain software instrument patches on my new Mac and I get a prompt saying the audio file can't be found. I click the "search again" tab and keep getting the same meaasage. My only option is to click "continue" the channel strip loads but there is no audio. This seems to be totally random; most sounds load but i would say about 10% don't.
I go to Library>application support>logic>sampler Instruments> and the files are there! I manually place a copy in my project inside the sampler instruments folder but it still does not see it. I notice that it does not make a folder for it in the samples folder of my project. All the sounds that work have a folder in the samples folder.
It's frustrating. I can see the file but Logic can't find it...........What shall I do?
    Jimmy Maddox

    Hi Jimmy,
I found I had the same problem going from a 2006 iMac to a new Mac Mini (I had used Migration Assistant and pulled all the files from a Time Machine backup - this was Mo/Tu this week).
I went back to the old iMac and found the bulk of missing samples in (something like) Library>application support>Garageband>...Sampler?Samples? (I will check the details and be more specific later today (currently on a work's Mac with no iLife). Anyhow, the key thing is 13+gigs of samples where held under that folder structure & not under Logic. I checked this am and everything is now working fine (the first time I changed patches on the ESX24 there was a 2 mins or so delay (spinning beachball etc) however it then popped up fine & after that switches patches with no extended pause)
    I hope that helps,
    Best,
    David

  • Flashing folder on Macbook pro

On startup my Macbook pro shows a flashing folder with a question mark so appears to have lost the boot partition. When I do command and R I do not get the recovery options, I just get a globe with a warning sign and apple.com/support under it.  Command and D works, diagnostics run and I get no issues found result. Any idea what is going on anyone?

Di you try restarting and booting whilst holding down the command and R keys? Or even the command, option and R keys (assuming that you've a 2011 model)?
Some 2011 models came with discs as they shipped with Snow Leopard. Those that shipped with Lion had no discs. If your machine originally shipped with Snow Leopard, you can call Apple, with the serial number of your MBP handy, and order a set of model-specific discs (cost is, I believe, around $25 with taxes and shipping).
Please 'call back' and let us know if you've tried booting either to your Recovery partition or to Internet Recovery.

  • Redirect "home" Folder on macbook pro

I have a quick question concerning home folder.  I have a Macbook Pro and I have the "Home" folder on an external hardrive because my SSD simply is not large enough to hold all my files.  Now,  I am going to a Macbook Air because I have no use for the power the Pro has and my question is, should I make the "home" folder go back to the Pro before I do an intial erase of the harddrive?  Or does this not matter?  I will be doing the same on the macbook air in terms of "home" folder going to external drive.  My Pro and external are both backed up by Time Capsule as well.  Thanks in advance.

should I make the "home" folder go back to the Pro before I do an intial erase of the harddrive?
If you want to transfer data from that machine to the new one in Setup or Migration Assistant, you should first restore it to the configuration you want.

  • Sw folder after MacBook Pro migration?

I just upgraded my 6 year old MacBook Pro to a the new one with Retina.  I did it by connecting the two with Ethernet cable and using Migration Assistant.  When done, I have this odd "sw" folder under the HD?  It seems out of place - is it in the wrong place?  Can I get rid of it?  Should I move it?

I think that is installed by Fink or MacPorts or some other package manager. Given that it has a Fink subfolder, I'm guessing it is that.
It should be hidden. You can get rid of it or hide it.
You can hide it in Terminal with
    chflags hidden /sw

  • How to sync folder on Macbook pro with external portable drive

    Hello,
I am new to mac environment.  I would like to sync up my itunes library from my PC to Macbook Pro. I currently backup my itunes on PC using synctoy 2.1  to  portable drive. I am able to copy folders from portable drive onto macbook pro but would like the abililty to sync ( ie copy the delta) to save time.
    Thanks,
macbook pro - OS X Lion
    PC -XP

It depends on what they are. Generally, a Mac OS X application will have a distinctive icon; if they’re all documents(not Windows applications), double-click all of them.

  • Found a design flaw in MacBook Pro Battery

There are issues with Battery design in MacBook Pro. Where the battery is screwed, have noticed on several MacBook pros that screw holders are cracked either due to swollen battery or some other reason which causes battery to shift and knocks RAM chips, which on startup causes beeping noise.

My wife's mid-2012 classic 13" has a completely cracked left plastic holder around the Tri Wing screw and the right one appears to be cracked as well. I've never removed the battery. She did buy it as a Best Buy Refurb so maybe they were a little overzealous screwing in the battery? It is very thin plastic so I'm not surprised it cracks with too much pressure either from a swelling battery or a tech screwing it in.

  • Can't find my Backups folder on Macbook pro

Hey guys I don't think I need my back ups on my Macbook pro if I have back ups on a external hard drive but I have 167GBs of back ups on my macbook pro. Can I delete it and if so how thanks

When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.

  • Java folder on macbook pro

    Hi!
Please help me as to where to find the actual Java folder. I need to add some files to its security folder and I know it is installed on my system when I did a version check using my terminal but I am unable to find out the actual physical location of the folder, as in for example I need this location:
    Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home/lib/security.
    Thanks

If that is the exact path you need I would try using the Go > Go To Folder menu from the Finder. You should get the below dialog box and be able to enter the path you have indicated above.

  • How to copy a file from a folder on macbook pro

ive been trying to copy a file (a video file) from my finder to my external hard drive, drag it and stuff, but i keep getting this forbidden sign.
i'd love to get some help.
    thanks.

    Hi,
Normally this happens if the hard drive is either formatted in an incompatible format (like NTFS which is read only) or if you do not have permissions to write to the hard drive.
You can check the format in disk utility by selecting the external hard drive partition in the left and then down the bottom it will show the format. It should either be Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or MS-DOS FAT. If it is not you will need to erase the drive to format it.
You can check the drive permissions by right clicking (control clicking) the icon for the external hard drive, and selecting "Get Info". down the bottom in sharing and permissions, check the box that says "Ignore Ownership"
    Hope this helps.
