Malware or virus on IPad?!

Trying to sign into Facebook through Safari so I can check my 'others' folder in my messages and when I try to sign in it says my device (iPad) is infected with a virus or malware.  Is that possible? If so, what do I do?!?!

There are no viruses/malware for iPad, so the message is dishonest at best. There is also no legitimate anti-virus program for iOS. Ignore it.

You do still need to be smart on the internet. YOu can be phished just as easily on an iPad that you can on a computer. So be smart with your internetting. THe iPad does offer a user more protection than a regular PC but a user's actions can change that.
ANd the relative immunity to viruses apply to non-jailbroken devices.

  • Malware and virus dangers.

I was just told that I need to be concerned about malware and viruses on iPhone and iPad. What is available to protect my devices?

Apple will update iOS accordingly If anything does happen. There is nothing to do or worry about If you aren't jailbroken.

  • Malware or viruses have blocked the program files access and ultimately the antivirus

    Hi,
My computer has been prone to malwares or viruses, not pretty sure, but right now, i'm in trouble. My antivirus software folder is not opening, and gives error
"C:/program files/McAfee" is not accessible. Access denied"
I'm in one more trouble, whenever I install new antivirus, like ESET, or new antimalware like MalwareBytes, during the installation process, the process says that the particular
file (related to the software) cannot renamed, and access is denied MoveFile failed;code5
For example, I installed MalwareBytes software, and got this error:
    C:\Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/Malwarebytes/Malwarebytes' Anti-malware/rules.ref
    An error occured while trying to rename a file in the destination directory;
    MoveFile failed; code 5.
    Access is denied.
Click Retry to try again, Ignore to skip this file (not recommended), or  Abort to cancel installation.
    ABORT,RETRY,IGNORE
Because of this, I don't know what malware or virus is in which part of the system

There are a number of extremly dubious sites which claim to offer Drivers for common Hardware, but actually are phishing for identies and credit card numbers and candidates to join a bot-net.
Make absolutely certain you load drivers ONLY from the manufacturer's web site.

  • Virus on Ipad

    Hi
I'm new to Apple products with only experience of pcs and laptops before.  I just got an ipad for Christmas.  I love it and I've never stopped using it since.  For the first time today I got a problem after downloading a children's app.  I played the game I'd downloaded for a while then closed it.  The screen then appeared to be 'taken over' by what looked like a virus with the screens moving from homepage to next page to search page with no input from me.  On the search page it took over the search box and keypad typing in gobbledegook. I left it for a while while I tried to work out what to do and it went into itunes and started playing a song and clicking on all the icons in itunes. I did what I would do on a pc and stopped the connection to the internet and powered off.  Looking at discussions on viruses on ipad, they don't seem to exist, it seems more likely to be the app I downloaded but I've no idea what to do - any advice?

    Start here.
Quit that game app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • Has anyone experienced virus on ipad

My iPad turned most of my emails into messages sent by no one, no object and dated 01/01/70. When I tried to delete one of these e-mails it turned off and crashed. I cannot turn it on, neither charge it. It is dead... :-(
Has anyone ever experienced sorts of viruses on iPad/iPhone or similar problem?
    Please help!
    thanks,
    Simo

It is very unlikely to be a virus if your OS is stock (i.e. you have't jailbroken it.)
Apple's iron grip on its software and hardware makes viruses for the iPad few and far between. It's more likely to be a bug in the software than a virus, what version of iOS are you running?

  • Are we supposed to purchase an anti-virus for iPad Air?

Are we supposed to purchase an anti-virus for iPad Air? Or is it secure without one.

Virus's - defined as a malicious program that propagates itself through the operating system - cannot run on an ipad due to its sandboxed operating system. You can still fall victim to phishing if you put your info in the wrong place or enter it in the wrong site. but, generally, any 'bad' activity on an iPad requires the user to initiate or do something first.
So while you can't get a virus you do have to be smart about how you use the internet and what you do with your device.

Nope as long as you don't jailbreak or do anything else the software cannot get viruses

  • Hi, I recently purchased an IPad Air.  I have a Dell PC that has the Verizon.  Security Suite.  Do I need to have virus/malware protection for the IPad Air?  Thanks.

Hi, I recently purchased an IPad air.  Do I need to place virus protection software for it?  I also have a Dell PC that has the Verizon Security Suite.  Thanks for your info.  Jim

You do not need anti virus for the iPad. The ipad only installs things from the App Store and those apps are vetted. In addition, the operating system of the ipad isn't the same as PC's or Macs so common viruses don't run on them.
The only thing you need to be aware of is protecting your info....Go to a bad site and enter your info and you're just as vulnerable as you would be on a computer. So the device isn't vulnerable to anything but user actions.

  • Can a email attachment executable load a virus on iPad

I received an email with an executable attachment - is there a virus app for an IPad

There is no known malware capable of infecting an iPad, unless it has been jailbroken (ie, hacked to allow apps from outside the App Store). So the e-mail is not a concern. It's probably just a Windows trojan.
There also are no true anti-virus apps for the iPad (the built-in security on iOS prevents apps from doing things that an anti-virus app would need to do), so don't get suckered into buying one.

  • Virus on ipad and iphone when i was abroad how to delete it

while i was abroad i have picked up what i think is a virus on my ipad mini and iphone 5 also another person in my hotel had same problem . When we are usinf safari it send us to a link ultrafiles.net  ( linkbucks.com )everytime when try and open a new page how do i get rid of this ?

It's not a virus. As of this point in time, there is no known virus for the iPad. (a virus is defined as a malicious program that propogates itself across your operating system, the sandbox nature of the ipad prevents that)
Try going into your settings, safari, and clear the cookies and data and history. It will mean that you need to re-sign into sites, etc, but what I think you're getting hit by is a browser cookie that's basically hijacking the browser to send it to another site. Getting rid of the history and cookies should take care of it.

  • Please help, mixed reports, malware ? virus ? neither ? I am truly stuck

I am having a problem with my relatively new 6month old imac.
Please I am hoping to find some really smart (& hopefully patient)  mac users for help. I  appreciate all the time mac uers help members with there questions. Yuy guys really are an invaluable resource.
So here's my situation a few wks back i started noticing my imac seemed to be running slow, after that different programs like Firefox, and Safari seemed to be freezing and appear to "not respond". But things have been busy and just put it on the side.
Now around July or so Safari seems to be almost totally unstable. i starting being subjected to constant Safari problems like the browser constantly closing, yet FireFox (14.0.1) appeared to be relatively problem-free.
My wife starting finding strang emails that were supposedly quarantined so I decided to run a virus Scan. I went to the app's store to see which virus Scans were popular and downloaded Norton from the  store. I have gotten  mixed results from: my poor Mac being possibly sickened with: Malware (This was what was shown "Sokobanbuild.xsl")  than sometimes the scan appeared to report no problems, and i have been unable to find such a file on my Harddrive
I was under the very naive impression that Mac's were rarely affected to these types of virus and such. I am by no means a mac guru so please be gentle. I tried to search on here and got even more confused, I looked for update to the OS as i thought there was somekind of download avaiklable, but became more confused and frustrated.
Thanks so much in advance, i really appreciate the prescious time everyone takes to read this or help myself or other users.
please I am in a real bind here, and hoping for some sort of solution that doesn't involve me having to re-format the Harddrivre and re-install everything, or booting up with a cd. I was also hoping to upgrade to the new Mountain Lion OS, which I assume I should wait till this gets fixed.
please any and all help would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much in advance !!!!!!
FYI: If this helps here are some of my mac's info:
OS: 10.7.4 (MAc OS only, no windows)
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory: 4 GB
    Firefox 14.0.1
    thanks again

In reply to a recent post of mine, madmacs0 responded with an assessment of Norton ... and a more balanced and informative post would be hard to find.   Do read it.
I need to preface my remarks to explain why I have not spoken up on this subject here before.
I was an early adopter of Norton Anti-Virus when Peter Norton owned it. It, along with the even better Norton Utilities saved my bacon more than once when running Apple's Classic OS. At the time I would have recommended it to most any Mac user. Then Symantec bought Peter out and things went rapidly down hill. The last chance I gave them to get it back on track was SystemWorks 2.0 and Internet Security 1.0 back in the OS 9 era. Despite a number of bug fix releases, I had to disable most of it and then remove it entirely. That's the last time I actually ran a Norton product on any of my Macs.
So I have no current experience with either NAV or the new iAntiVirus at this point and can't speak with authority on their worth. So feel free to ignore anything else I may have to say here.
I guess my bottom line would be that I think it has an undeserved bad reputation based on user experience from many years ago. I don't remember the last time I read a first person account of individual user issues in modern times. You chose your words carefully, which is appropriate, but I'll bet there are a lot of "experts" here who condemn it without ever having recent hands on experience.
There are a lot of reasons for their reputation, most well deserved. It's been said that Symantec never invented a single piece of software (not sure that's true any more, either), but rather purchased the works of others to either kill the competition or enhance their bottom line. They were a very different company in those days, with a different management style, etc.
So I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be at least as good as whatever has the best reputation among Commercial Mac A-V vendors today. They seem to be on top of most all the OS X malware, even though they don't spend a lot of time blogging about it. I know a lot of IT professionals who swear by their enterprise level software. I suspect that their software no longer behaves any worse than the others that operate at the kernel extension level (always dangerous for third parties). But their reputation seems to be their unending albatross.
I hope madmacs0 will not mind me copying his post like this.

    Helpful Links Regarding Malware Problems
If you are having an immediate problem with ads popping up see The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide and AdwareMedic.
Open Safari, select Preferences from the Safari menu. Click on Extensions icon in the toolbar. Disable all Extensions. If this stops your problem, then re-enable them one by one until the problem returns. Now remove that extension as it is causing the problem.
The following comes from user stevejobsfan0123. I have made minor changes to adapt to this presentation.
Fix Some Browser Pop-ups That Take Over Safari.
Common pop-ups include a message saying the government has seized your computer and you must pay to have it released (often called "Moneypak"), or a phony message saying that your computer has been infected, and you need to call a tech support number (sometimes claiming to be Apple) to get it resolved. First, understand that these pop-ups are not caused by a virus and your computer has not been affected. This "hijack" is limited to your web browser. Also understand that these messages are scams, so do not pay any money, call the listed number, or provide any personal information. This article will outline the solution to dismiss the pop-up.
    Quit Safari
Usually, these pop-ups will not go away by either clicking "OK" or "Cancel." Furthermore, several menus in the menu bar may become disabled and show in gray, including the option to quit Safari. You will likely have to force quit Safari. To do this, press Command + option + esc, select Safari, and press Force Quit.
    Relaunch Safari
If you relaunch Safari, the page will reopen. To prevent this from happening, hold down the 'Shift' key while opening Safari. This will prevent windows from the last time Safari was running from reopening.
This will not work in all cases. The shift key must be held at the right time, and in some cases, even if done correctly, the window reappears. In these circumstances, after force quitting Safari, turn off Wi-Fi or disconnect Ethernet, depending on how you connect to the Internet. Then relaunch Safari normally. It will try to reload the malicious webpage, but without a connection, it won't be able to. Navigate away from that page by entering a different URL, i.e. www.apple.com, and trying to load it. Now you can reconnect to the Internet, and the page you entered will appear rather than the malicious one.

From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect everything targeting the Mac.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • How to clear virus on ipad

I Have got virus from mobmessage1 on ipad attached to Sirius. How to clear ?

There are no known viruses that can affect an iPad.  So all you would need to do is remove the App if it was an App or delete the email if it was an email that you suspect has a virus.
Other than that, there's nothing else that needs to be done.
Why do you think you have a virus?
