Malwarebytes reports psqlpwd.dll as Vundo trojan
However, from what I can determine, it is a Logon Stub for the Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software. I've scanned this .dll at virustotal.com and jotti.com, and they say it's clean. I've researched online and I've examined the file properties. I am preparing to file a false positive report with Malwarebytes, but I need to clarify something about the Malwarebytes software first. My software has the following properties, and I would appreciate it if someone else who has this file if they could check theirs as well. Size: 87.5 k, Size on disk 88 k. Created March 14/07, modified March 14/07. Version 5.6.1.3424. Logon Stub. Copyright (C) 2001 - 2007 UPEK Inc. Internal name PSQLPWD. Long list of language versions. Legal: Touchchip. Original file name: psqlpwd.dll. Product name: ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software. Version 5.6.1. special build description win.x86-rel.tfs2. This is installed on a Lenovo R61 Thinkpad. I'm not using the fingerprint software at this time, but I wouldn't mind the option being available in case I change my mind. Thanks! Hope to hear from someone soon.
Vundo is best removed using a specific removal tool. There is more to it than just deleting files and obvious registry entries. The link HERE discusses step by step manual removal and also has a link to a removal tool. According to their website, Malwarebytes is supposedly capable of removing it as well. One caveat - I know nothing about Malwarebytes and how reliable they are. It is not uncommon for a piece of software to hit a false positive on a program that it feels is acting suspiciously. If it were me, I'd try the tool mentioned in the link above and see if it agrees that Vundo is installed.

Vundo Trogan Hijacked my Computer!
A little over a week ago I noticed my computer acting weird when it wouldn't let me open internet explorer and, every time I tried, a window would pop up from the McAfee Anti-Virus I have explaining that Internet Explorer wouldn't open because of the "Buffer Overflow Protection". When I scanned my computer, I had about 10 detections, all of which were deleted except for one which failed to clean or delete called "Vundo", a trogan which is supposedly located within "system32" of my hard drive. Now I have to turn of my Buffer Over flow Protection simply to get on the internet and sometimes all the icons on my desktop will just dissapear, forcing me to shut down by holding the power button on the computer. Not only that but every time I scan my computer now, McAfee finds more and more spyware, viruses, etc. Last time I scanned my computer, there were 128 detections!
I was hoping someone might possibly know how I could delete it since it's killing my computer. I would REALLY appreciate any input as I can't afford to buy a new computer and I'm in my last term towards earning my bacholar's, i.e. the worst possible time for my computer to die! Thanks for your response. I did find the Malwarebytes program, downloaded it, and had it scan my computer. It actually found three other things (a worm, another trojan and spyware) as well as the Vundo trojan which it also can't delete. It got rid of all the other stuff it found but when it came time to delete the Vundo trojan, it said that it wasn't able to and that the virus had been placed in a "delete on reboot/restart" file which would delete the virus when I restarted my computer. Well, of course, I did what it said and restarted the computer. When I was able to, I started another scan to see if it had actually deleted the virus and, sure enough, its still there, laughing in my face.
At this point I'm feeling more than a little hopeless, but I'm still willing to try just about anything to get this thing off my computer, so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated! -
Firefox 3.6.19
Mac OS 10.4.11
attempted the''' 3 free options''' listed here
http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox%20never%20finishes%20loading%20certain%20websites?s=cannot+load+page&as=s
when I click on any of them, they don't just open/run. they want to know what application to use to open them. do these work for my Mac, or is there another free alternative?
Here's what the Mozilla page above said
Firefox never finishes loading certain websites
If specific websites (not all) start to load, but never finish (i.e. The Firefox activity indicator may spin for several minutes, or the status bar may show "Done" on a blank page), it is either because of a software trojan called Vundo, or a file being in the wrong format.

Vundo trojan variant
A variant of the Vundo trojan is known to cause Firefox to have problems loading certain high-traffic sites, including Google, Yahoo, MySpace, Facebook, and more.
Search for malware
Not all variants of the Vundo trojan can be detected or removed by malware scanners. However, you should scan your computer for infections first:
* Run the Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool.
* Run a full system virus scan with something other than your normal program:
o A '''free solution online is Kaspersky's online scanner'''.
* Run a full system spyware scan with something other than your normal program:
o MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware
o '''SUPERAntiSpyware''' is known to detect many variants of Vundo, and has a free version.
o '''Spybot S&D''' is a well-known free solution.
More help
If you're having a problem loading sites other than the one described above, see the Error loading websites article to see if it addresses your problem. You can also check your Internet security software - resetting permissions for Firefox can often fix similar problems.
There can be other causes of the symptoms described above. Before attempting these instructions, try the methods described in the Basic Troubleshooting article to see if they will address your problem.
If you still have problems after scanning, you may ask a support question. It sounds like you may have multiple problems, but none of them are likely to be caused by malware.
First, the internet-related issues may be related to adware or a network compromise. I tend to lean more towards the latter, based on your description of the problem. See:
http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/baddns.php
http://www.adwaremedic.com/kb/hackedrouter.php
If investigation shows that this is not a network-specific issue, then it's probably adware. See my Adware Removal Guide for help finding and removing it. Note that you mention AdBlock as if it should have prevented this, but it's important to understand that ad blockers do not protect you against adware in any way. Neither would any kind of anti-virus software, which often doesn't detect adware.
As for the other issues, it sounds like you've got some serious corruption. I would be inclined to say it sounds like a failing drive, except it sounds like you just got it replaced. How did you get all your files back after the new drive was installed?

BTNetProtectPlus and virus checking
I have BTNP+ installed on 2 W7 PCs. Virus checking is set weekly, and to date I have had no major problems, just occasional viruses and trojans quarrantined and deleted.
My on line bank, NatWest have just told me that my access to them has revealed that my laptop is infected by a virus with the alias of either Ramnit, Tilon, Zeus (aka Zbot), Shylock or Torpig. They advise that I "seek professional advice" before logging on to them again.
I am a retired IT manager, and am fully conversant with most parts of a PC. I have run a full virus check since the bank reported a problem and no viruses/trojans were found by BTNP+.
Can anyone advise me how effect BTNP+ is? Or is this just a scam by the high street banks to get more business into local small businesses?
ThanksI still don't know how your bank could tell you had all these viruses on your computers without having scanned them for you. Did you have a problem and did they scan your computer?
I would suggest that to be sure you don't have any viruses on your computers you start them in safe mode then carry out a full virus scan using your virus scanner.
To start in safe mode follow this link
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
Depending on what if anything your virus scanner finds will determine what you do next.
I would also "get a second opinion" by running an on line virus scanner after I had carried out the above. A decent on line virus scanner is Bitdefender. See this link
http://www.bitdefender.co.uk/scanner/online/free.html
Also download and run Malwarebytes which will scan for malware on your computer.
See this link
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=d...
If after running those and nothing shows up then you should be clear of viruses and malware. -
HOW DOES ONE GET INTO McAfee GET THE TYPE OF VIRUS...
A scan has just told me on the security report that it had found 2 Trojans.
Can someone direct me as how to get further into McAfee to find out exactly which Trojans it picked up, just like every other system I have ever installed before ???
ThanksHi thefireguy;
When you bought the iMac you should have received a DVD with all of the software that came with it. If anything happens, reinstalling from that DVD should get you back to the way it started.
If you are concerned about what he might do to the computer, I would suggest getting an external firewire drive and use Time Machine to backup the iMac. That will allow you to get file back after a problem.
Allan -
My Netprotectplus McAfee scan says "0 viruses ans spyware detected in your last scan". Fair eough. But when I view the scan report it says that 1 trojan was detected.
Whuch is correct? How do I know whethert the trojan has been deleted? Is it possible to see a file that shows where the trojan was/is in my system?
It does not say trojan removed, unless, maybe, there is a more detailed log file that I can look at?Hi JayZS and welcome
It appears to be reporting that it has found a trojan, but doesn't mean it was found during the last scan.
From the home page click Navigation (top right), then click on Quarantined and Trusted Items, then check Quarantined Items and/or Quarantined Potentially Unwanted Programs.
From there, you should be able to Select the trojan, then remove/delete it...
(You could also dump the 207Cookie that's bound to be there!!).

Backdoor.bifrost trojan
When I started my internet browser today, I got an automatic download from Verizon for the newest VZ in-home agent. I went ahead and let it download and install. After doing so, Malwarebytes immediately warned me that the backdoor.bifrost trojan had infected my computer and it was located in the folder for this new Verizon software.
Is this software truly infected with a trojan or could this be a false positive from Malwarebytes?I'm really surprised that this has received no responces.

Virus in JDeveloper download?
I just tried downloading the JDeveloper 11g tech preview but my virus scanner reported that the file contained a trojan: TrojanSpy.BayFraud.CW.
This is a false positive. Please see this thread:
Trojan in JDev 11g zipfile?

JAVA OPENSTR.A - VIRUS OR TROJAN???
Hi There,
I am a knowledgable home computer user, but I do not know anything about programming or in depth stuff.
Trend Micro's "House Call" virus scanner found the following file and reported it as a virus.
C:\Documents and Settings\Ned\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javapi\v1.0\jar\javainstaller.jar-3c936701-5768e0d4.zip javainstaller\InstallerApplet.class
I wonder if this file is perhaps a valid Sun Java file, but it has a "signature" similar to that of a virus or Trojan and hence was reported by House Call as a virus.
Could you please advise me?
Thanks very much for your help.
Sincerely,
Guiterdas.The same here.
Norton Anti Virus autoprotect suddenly reported the presence of the virus Trojan.ByteVerify in the InstallerApplet.class file in some temp directory.
The scanner found the same file in my docs and settings. Saved a copy in case it's a hoax, but what's up? -
The Problem:
- I updated Malwarebytes on my XP Pro Toshiba Tecra laptop last night and ran it.
- This morning it reports Trojan Vundo in...
C:\Windows\System32\psqlpdw.dll
HKey_LocalMachine\software\microsoft\windows\CurrentVersion\SharedDLL\Windows\System32\psqlpwd.dll
Value c:\windows\system32\psqlpwd.dll
HKey_LocalMachine\software\microsoft\windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon\Notify\psfus
Apparently this has to do with the fingerpring device on my Toshiba Tecra laptop (Fingerprint Potector Suite Check) and Googling it I find at least one place that tells me not to remove it.
The Question:
- What will happen if I just let Malware bytes remove it and the two registry entries?
- How do I get rid of this Malware without having to reinstall the system.
I really appriceate any help. Thanks.Vundo is best removed using a specific removal tool.

I have tried everything. i have installed uninstalled it works the first time then when i close all windows and try to reopen i get a crash report. then i cant even open in safe mode. so i go through the uninstall and reinstall process again. this has been a nightmare. If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:
*bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx
You can find the Report ID of recent crash reports on the "Help > Troubleshooting Information" page (about:support).
*Click the "All Crash Reports" button on this page to open the <b>about:crashes</b> page and see all crash reports.
If necessary then you can open <b>about:</b> pages via the location/address bar.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
*Download the full Firefox installer and save the file to the desktop<br>https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
*(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Firefox crashes on start up, won't go past crash report box
So I've just had my computer attacked by multiple trojans and viruses. I tried to use Firefox to get online to look for a specific way of deleting them. However the crash report box comes up, if I try to continue the a new crash report opens and keeps on opening.
I tried to submitted the crash report via the website but instead of letters and numbers, the code was just a small string of numbers.
I also tried reinstalling.Your issue may be caused by Malware. You can run and update the following '''free''' antivirus software:

2. Spybot Search & Destroy - http://www.safer-networking.org
3.Spyware Terminator - http://www.spywareterminator.com

To fix this problem, perform a ''clean install''. This will not affect bookmarks, settings, or history.
# Hold down the '''Windows logo key''' and press '''R''' to bring up the ''Run'' dialog.
# Type '''%PROGRAMFILES%''' (or '''%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%''' on 64-bit Windows and press OK.
# Right click on the folder you installed the beta in and press '''Rename'''.
# Type in a new name, such as ''Old Firefox''
# Press ''Yes'' to confirm the name change
# Install Firefox normally from [http://www.mozilla.com] -
the error box says Mozilla crash reporter. It says Firefox will try to restart with tabs and windows when it restarts. Then when I restart, it crashes again. How can I restart it without it trying to restore that session? I would like to not lose my toolbar and bookmarks by reinstalling.
