I'm pretty much in the same spot as you, we just got our house a month ago and my wife graciously gave me free reign of the basement (my man cave). I do like all things nerdy and I'm a big fan of table top gaming (Warmachine/Warhammer 40k). What I plan on doing to mine is to separate the basement into little zones.I think "gaming tables" are pretty neat. So one zone would be just that. I'm going to build a relatively large gaming table with cup holders and a gaming space to allow large board games and table top games.Maybe some shelving for miniatures, hobby material, books, and board games aroudn said table.Lastly, a small area for a couch tv and gaming system. We only own a Wii U right now but I may get something else in the future.

Okay, I'm setting up a man cave and I'm having a problem.

I found a Apple TV 1st gen at the flea market for about $35. I've got my old 720p plasma and old Sony surround sound system out there with my satellite hooked up. I've got my entire dvd/bluray collection ripped to an external hd with 2 ATV gen 3's in the house. My movies play great on my ATV3's but when I try to play them on my new to me ATV1, I get sound and no picture. The video content that I've purchased from the Apple Store plays just fine on the ATV1 but the ripped content doesn't. Is there a work around, do I need to hack the ATV1 to get the content to play and add all the other features of the ATV3s. My main concern is just getting my ripped video to play on my ATV1. BTW, I own all the movies that I ripped and it is all for personal use. I want to get the guys over to play some poker and watch the Hangover series in my cave. Thanks in advance for the help.

Press the menu button on the remote several times to make sure you are on the main screen.
Navigate to the menu on the far right hand side.
Select the first option in that menu.
Scroll down the next menu that appears and choose the 4th option from the bottom.
Select your language from the list available.

Congrats on the new project! When it comes to component selection everyone has a different opinion, just like with cars, computers, etc... The one thing that pops out to me is the projector. In my opinion your money would be more well spent looking for an actual TV than a projector for that price. After spending a while doing high-end home automation installs for a living, I wouldn't touch a projector under about $15000 or $20000. The quality that is sacrificed with a cheap projector isn't worth the larger screen size in my opinion, but that is just an opinion, and hardly the word of god.
Also, I see no mention of a screen. While projectors work on nearly any surface, a proper screen will do wonders for the image quality, color saturation, and brightness.
For receivers I am a big fan of Denon. They are priced a bit higher than others, but I have been happy with the build quality and feature set. That being said, unless you really plan to get into tuning the system, don't waste your money buying features that you don't need/know what they mean. If you don't know what the heck it is, odds are that you will probably never use it and it just becomes a worthless bragging point.
I'm poking around the web, and am curious as to where you got these speakers? I've seen mention of them on AVS forum as "White Van" speakers, and I can't find any spec sheets or the home page for the company.
Frankly though, most any receiver should do the trick for the 7.1 system, as long as it has all of the features you want, and supports 7.1 BUT if you plan to power two more speakers on a zone two, you will probably need a separate amplifier or receiver for that. Most HT receivers that I have seen support 7.1 or a zone two. That last two channel amplifier inside the unit can either be set to power the surround-back speakers, OR zone 2. That's not to say that there aren't any out there that can do both, I honestly haven't ever looked.
Also, from what you have posted, you are going to need an amplifier for those sub woofers. The info you have provided implies that they are passive, and most HT receivers only have line level outputs for a sub.
If your budget for both a projector AND a receiver is $1200 after tax, I think you will find yourself very unhappy with the results. More so with the projector than the receiver. You may want to look into a midrange rear-projection TV. The viewing angles aren't all that great, but you get an awesome size to dollar ratio, and they get quite large. I would be happy to be proven wrong on this, it's just been my experience.

Unable to use FiOS Mobile Remote App on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2

I'm one of the holdout Blackberry customers who Verizon doesn't recognize as wanting apps anymore. I finally broke down and bought an Android tablet device when I saw the FiOS Mobile Remote App and recognized it as an easy solution for controling my multiple HD STBs in my "Man Cave". Unfortunately, the app has been completely useless.
The app loads fine. I'm able to register each HD STB with the app, however doing anything more than the initial set-up for the remote function results in a crash. Every time I attempt to use it, I get the message "Unfortunately, FiOS Remote has stopped." I will occassionally see the attempted connection displayed on the corner of my TV screen.
All other functions of the app work, including the DVR function.
I've reported this failure for months, using the handy little report button below the crash message. No response.
I've commented on this topic in threads from other users with the same problem. No response.
I've posted to the comments section of the Google Play store. No response.
Please, would someone from Verizon acknowledge this problem exists? My best theory so far is that my tablet device is not on a Verizon data plan (WiFi only), so therefore Verizon isn't interested in supporting it (or this loyal customer).
Device is Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, 7.0, running Android 4.0.4. All FiOs STBs replaced with latest generation.

You may find there may be devices that do work with it that re not on the list, but these are all verified working devices with the app. Since yours doesn't appear to be on the list, we can not gaurantee it will work. Submitting all the feedback has gotten word back to Verizon about the troubles you are having. You can also submit this to the Verizon Idea Exchange. Looking to buy new MacBook Pro for editing with Premiere/After Effects, but wondering about trade-off between Processor Speed and Graphics Card

I'm a professional video editor (using Premiere and After Effects) looking to buy a new MacBook Pro and am deciding between two models. The slightly older model has a 2.8GHZ i7 (3rd generation) Quad Core processor with a 1GB SDRAM of NVIDIA GE FORCE GT 650M Graphics Card. Then newer model has a 2.3GHZ i7 (4th generation) Quad Core preocessor with 2GB SDRAM of NVIDIA GE FORCE 750M/Intel Iris Pro Graphics Card.
Which makes the most difference (processor speed vs. graphics card) with editing with Premiere and After Effects?
Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but want you to get a more realistic idea of your performance.
I chose a macbook pro, 17" of cause. I use it for gaming. Yes a iMac is better for gaming. But, it's nice to be able to move around. Set up a man cave in the lounge 1 week, or in the bedroom, the next. But you fork out a lot more dosh for that luxury. And yes, not as much power as Poikkeus has said.

I'm sick of those damn palette through which you can not see my work on screen.
A quick example. Control bar control. Why all the functionality of the tranform can be achieved with this bar but Control Panel aligment for two separate option requires you to open the Align palette?
When did the control panel apperance and beam pallet with information about the isolated facility, enjoyed as a child. Unfortunately, it seems that Adobe completely different groups doing different tools, and they do not like each other or do not know.
In Illustartor I miss only a consequence of the introduction of new ideas and tools. Now it looks as if Adobe in fear before the start of current customers still tunigowało Ford Model T. You can not leave the new engine to the old steering wheel and manual wiper.
Adobe Illustrator is a responsible program but it is annoying when you use. Especially, it seems that the only missing the great success of these smart people quit people together with the designer in one room. Give the candy to the agreement and does not release until we simplify the method of achieving the goal by the graphics. Now, instead of enjoying the work of the new tools I feel like a hamster in a barrel.
Please help Adobe to stop thinking of me as a man cave you will enjoy the matches.

Using Multiple Speakers AppleTV has slight lag or delay to audio

Hello all!
I recently purchased an Apple TV and have updated it to the latest versions as is all my software on my mac. For the last year I have used AirPort Express for streaming to my receiver across the room using a standard 1/8" to RCA stereo connection. When played on my computer at the same time it creates a nice room filling sound.
However, I tried using the Apple TV as the remote speaker instead of the AirPort Express since I have it hooked up with the optical cable instead for movies and what not obviously. However, there is a very slight delay when using the AppleTV as a remote speaker giving a slight reverb effect to the music playback.
I am going to test a regular analog audio out from the AppleTV later tonight in case it my be a signal processing issue with my receiver (Yamaha HTR-5500). However if anyone has any ideas in the interim, they would be appreciated. Thank you so much in advance!

Both the Airport Express and the AppleTV go to the same receiver and therefore go to the same 5.1 speaker set up. It is either the Computer & AirPort Express or Computer & AppleTV going at the same time. I don't use all 3 out at the same time since that would be pointless.
Here is the basic hardware/network setup:
- Ethernet connection from wall goes into AirPort Express for network dedicated for my upstairs man cave
- Wireless connection feeds my iMac which in turn feeds the audio signal for AirTunes back to the AirPort Express
- The Audio from the AirPort express goes directly into my receiver.
- The AppleTV is wirelessly connected to the network as well.
I am aware of the mini-tos link on the AirPort Express but the way I have it set up it is also is the wireless router for my office and therefore is plugged directly into to the wall and the extra adapter is just a bit too much weight on it so i stuck with the basic stereo out since I only use it for music and anything in ProLogic cam be through a regular stereo signal if need be.
But yeah, I am going to try the analog out on the AppleTV tonight and whatever my results are I will post them here. Thanks so much!

The cliche HDV problem on FCP 5.1.4 with sony HC7

having the pain in the butt problem i have been seeing everyone run into lately. MacBook Pro runnin FCP 5.1.4 & the Sony HDR-HC7 & i cannot get a Sequence, Capture & Device Control preset that wil consistantly work. The HDV-1080i50 Easy Setup Preset and a few little adjustmentsto the Preset worked for me till i upgraded from 5.1.2 After just getting the camera & the MacBook and having it worka amazingly & now i can't get nothing sure is depressing, i have tried man different ideas i have read over a handful of forums; but still no solution. Thanks.

I am currently running the same exact setup. The key was to make sure the camera was in play/edit, "iLink" showing HDV or DV appropriately, Firewire drive connected (scratch disk), and then starting the computer and finally booting FCP. I couldn't get it to consistently recognize the camera (device control) without this process. It works for me every time.

Remote App 2.3 Update Not Working! (ATV1 3.0.2 & iTunes 10.6.0.40)

Can anyone help?
I have recently updated my Apple Remote app on my iphone 4, from 2.2 to the 2.3 update, and now the app will not pair with anything.
From within the app I can add an iTunes Library, then from ATV1 enter the code to pair the devices (so they are seeing each other) but the iPhone now refuses to pair with the ATV1, it sits at 'connecting to ??? Apple TV...' for ages, the the message 'Remote can't connect to your iTunes library, check your network settings and try again'. It is the same when trying to pair with iTunes library on my Windows 7 laptop.
Home sharing is on, and logged in under same Apple ID on iPhone and iTunes, ATV1 is paired successfully with iTunes, Firewall is set to allow iTunes, but the remote app will not work with anything now since I updated the iPhone IOS to 5.1 and the Remote App to 2.3.
Has or is anyone else having this issue, or have I just messed up in my setting somewhere... This is very frustrating, I am missing streaming my music into the man cave (garage) via airplay speakers and controling the ATV1 remotely with the app...

Can the AirPort Extreme work as an extender?

Simple question: Can the AirPort Extreme work as a wireless network extender? (I have tried to research this online, of course, but I haven't had much luck.)
Background: The only option from our ISP is a router/modem combination. It used to be plugged directly into my dad's (Dell and Windows) desktop computer, but I was having trouble connecting all my devices wirelessly. So, I moved it into the kitchen and plugged it into the phone line (we have AT&T DSL) and got a USB wireless adapter for my dad's computer (because he didn't think he needed the wireless option on his "fancy" new Dell). I also have a different brand of adapter plugged into my old iMac G3, which I LOVE using.
Since doing this, my dad has constantly complained of his Internet not working correctly, things loading slowly, and having trouble connecting at all. (Full disclosure: he STILL uses the complete desktop version of AOL and refuses to give it up.) However, I've had no trouble on ANY of my devices--the G3, my white MacBook, my iPad, my iPod, or my mom's Kindle Fire. This leads me to believe the problem lies in the fact that he's using AOL because I usually don't have trouble when I briefly use Chrome on his desktop.
I've tried finding different solutions, including flashing an old router to use an extender and researching different extenders and bridges and such, but nothing looks like a viable solution because of all our components.
I'm wondering if the AirPort Extreme (probably the A1143;or any of the other AirPort devices) can work as an extender. To appease my dad, it'd be best to take the modem/router back to his man cave so he can hook it back up to his computer, but I'm not sure if the AirPort can pick up the wireless signal and perhaps be plugged directly into my G3 and otherwise act as an extender for my other devices (while searching for an Internet solution for my G3, I read on here that someone did this, but there was no further information on how it worked) or if I can plug it into the kitchen phone line and keep the USB adapter for the G3 and have wireless access to all my other things.
Help?

(My iMac is one of the later ones. It's running 10.4.1 and is a 600MHz model.)

Simple question: Can the AirPort Extreme work as a wireless network extender?
Simple answer: Yes....IF....the AirPort Extreme is extending a wireless network that is being provided by another Apple 802.11n wireless router.
Another way of saying the same thing is that it will take a minimum of two Apple 802.11n wireless routers to extend a signal wirelessly.
The more complex answer involves distances and obstructions involved in the setup, or alternate solutions such as running Ethernet cabling or using Ethernet powerline adapters.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

How to make your X1 dvr standalone

No, you are not the only one, but no, it is not possible with X1 DVRs. X1 is cloud and account based, not box based. So if you want a standalone, then you'll have to "downgrade" to an older DVR.

2 e4200s on the same network?

I used to have this exact setup with 2 wrt610ns i believe was the model number, i have one at my house, connected to my dsl, and then another in my "man cave" connected by a approximately 250 foot buried outdoor cat6 cable, inside of conduit of course. Last week both routers along with my modem were fried during a storm, so now i rebuilt the network with 2 e4200s, i hooked everything up and b4 i even had a chance to set my network up like i had to do b4 (a 192.168.10.1 subnet in the mancave) everything was already getting internet, however i cannot access the web based setup for the 2nd router (mancave) the dhcp client table shows it with an address of 192.168.1.139. even if i disconnect, reset the 2nd router and set it up on a 192.168.10.1 address as soon as i connect it to the main router, it goes right back to the .1.139 ip address. the only problem i have with this is that i would like to have the freedom to change my wifi passwords or edit other settings on my network without having to disconnect from the main router everytime, assuming that will work and i wont have to do a hard reset in order to get the router back to a default ip. the cable connecting the 2 routers goes from a lan port on the 1st router to the internet port on the 2nd. any suggestions or information is appreciated

i suggest that you setup your two routers with 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.2 respectively. with 10.1 being your main router (connected to the modem), you may just run a wire from a regular port on the main router to another regular port on the 2nd router, then disable DHCP on the 2nd router. this way youd be able to access any of these two routers conveniently.

Image/File Path

hi there,
have a slight poblem regarding a file path, when running it (preview) in netbeans the following is fine
String path = "src\\Game\\images\\character\\man.gif";However the distributed version no longer looks from src\\ its already in Game\\
So the dist version (jar file) can no longer display
man.gifAny ideas?

Code snippets are next to useless. For example, this snippet fails to explain what getImg(String) does or how it does it(1). But please don't go on to post a bunch of other snippets you feel explains the problem. For better help sooner, post an SSCCE.
1) My answers to your latest question would be different if the getImg(String) method was treating that String as a string representation of a File or URL, for instance. But either way I would advise you limit the getImg() method to accept either a File or URL as appropriate, rather than a String representing the same.

Select multiple playlists for burning to DVD Data disc?

Hi, i need to burn about 5 playlists to a DVD Data Disc for temp backup, iTunes only is allowing me to select one playlist at a time. Of corse one play list is about 300 meg and this is totally wasteful of a DVD.
Anyone know how to burn multiple playlists to a single disc? maybe some other app can read iTunes's playlists and provide burning?
I want each playlist to create a self titled folder on disc with the tunes in each.

Hi man, good idea.
Unfortunately, in iTunes, the "Burn Data Disc" button disappears when the folder is selected, in addition to the burn menu item. The burn button reappears when a single playlist inside the folder is selected, unfortunately again, more than one playlist cannot be selected.
It does appear iTunes can burn only 1 single playlist to a disc or the entire library and nothing in between which is very problematic for me right now.
Sadly the "Back Up to Disc" option in the File menu provides the following options :
"Back Up entire iTunes library and playlist"
"Back Up only iTunes Store purchases"
This appears also to be useless.
Toast 8 won't import exported iTunes XML playlists either and just burn the tracks in each playlist to a folder on the disk.
Suppose we need "iTunes Pro" to do something simple as I require :-((
