Manage multiple folders add metadata advanced Q

I am not a beginner but iTunes makes me feel like one. I could rant but would rather find a solution and be done with it.
Windows 8 itunes 12
New laptop and fragmented folders full of music on 2 external drives plus lots of newly ripped WAV files on external drive to be imported as MP3.
I am willing to completely remove everything from the laptop and start over if there is a comprehensive method.
This is exasperating to me Im not even sure I can explain it. All advice makes things easy - as long as you let itunes control consolidation of everything and you dont dare move a file around or care about the format. Then you get "what you asked for, but not what you want".
I want all my music into one folder on my laptop, everything in MP3 format, organized in iTunes, so I can use this large library on my portables, and back up easily to its own folder on the external drive, while retaining the formats separately on an external backup. BUT  I dont want to import WAV FLAC etc files and then convert to MP3 and then delete duplicates, although I have found a fast workaround. FURTHERMORE I have ripped a lot of my old vinyl, which is in yet another folder on the external drive in WAV format which I want to import directly as MP3, find all songs on same album, and add info manually .  There is no metadata, only the song name.  I need a way to do this for all xx songs on the same album.  My test import of 3 different albums grouped all the songs together with the same date stamp and I cannot tell which belongs to which.  Can I at least bring them in orderly to select groups for adding info?
One more thing.  There are at least two locations that are being pointed to:
Path : c:\users\Myname\music\itunes\itunesmusic\   AND in a subfolder
C:\users\Myname\music\itunes\itunesmusic\ music (which was fresh stuff added)
If I move all the album folders from the second into the first manually, ITunes wont be able to locate them. I want everything in the first location, or a new simpler one I can create.  Thanks for helping the ignorant. There has to be a simple way to accomplish this without a week of manually clicking a mouse.

Some of the things you say you want in your original post are not possible, but there should be a way to add your content to your library and bring it into some kind of order.
iTunes has two settings that define the behaviour when content is added to the library. Enable the menu bar if necessary with Ctrl+B then use Edit > Preferences > Advanced. The Keep... option tells iTunes to rearrange files inside the media folder when tag information changes, or if necessary when adding files to the library that are already inside the media folder. Copy... tells it to make copies of any files that are outside the media folder.
If iTunes copies or moves files added that are in .wav format, then they end up in the Unknown Artist\Unknown Album folder with their original filename, which becomes the track name. If you disable both Keep... and Copy... options you can safely add the content to the library without changing the filepaths. Once that it done you can use a script called TagFromFilename to fill in the details from the path. It expects to find tracks in the following format:
..\<Album Artist>\<Album>\[D-]## <Name>[ - <Artist].<Ext>
where [D-] is an optional leading disc number, and [ - <Artist>] allows for an optionally different artist when the artist isn't the same as the album artist.
Once you have the songs catalogued in iTunes with the correct metadata you can convert to Apple Lossless or AIFF, both of which carry a full tag to preserve the data and are also lossless formats, or you can convert to mp3 at your preferred bitrate. I would suggest you start with your .wav files located outside of the media folder, then any converted files will be created inside it, and it will be easy to remove the links to the originals once the conversions are complete. You can then archive the originals in case you ever need to revisit them, particularly if you are going to convert to mp3 since this is a lossy format.
See the user tip Make a split library portable for some background on the usual layout of an iTunes library, and how to rearrange things if they aren't in the standard form.

  • How to Export Multiple Compositions Into Multiple Folders With Metadata?

Currently I am working on a project which requires the export of one video file into multiple sizes and formats. In the end there are 80+ separate video files which derive from basic groupings of ratios. As you can see by the attached pictures, I have set up a waterfall type procedure in which a master composition with safe margins is inserted into the various sub-ratios until it trickles down into the final sizes at the bottom.
I know you can simply drag and drop the files from After Effects into Media Encoder after selecting a preset to export the items. My only issue is how can I export the 80+ video files into 80+ different folders (depending on the size/ratio) along with the proper metadata?
So my thought became is there a way to automate the process by allowing me to create on video, and much like the watch folder, export the one master video and then let Media Encoder work its magic with the 80+ other videos?
    Thanks in advance.

Unless you care to create 80 output presets in AME I don't see it working and then even I wouldn't rely on it. AME is too notoriously error-prone. It would probably be simpler and less nerve-wrecking to create an AE script that sets up your AE render queue and creates the folders and render directly from AE...

  • File Manager multiple folders (Need Help Please)

If i open my file manager then choose the N900 icon (or whatever you name it) there are two icons of Audio clips, Camera, Documents, Images, Video clips. Can anyone help me return it to its original view where there is only one icon each.

it was definately more prevelant in the pr1.1 version and previous....but i have still had it happen in the new pr1.2 a few times...but it goes away.
post what it says on your screen when you open your phone dialer and the press:  *#0000# so that we can tell what version you are on.

Please add the ability to add multiple folders to the assets folder in order to better organize large numbers of files.

    Hello KDLadage
Thank you for your recommendation. I understand the challenges of managing large numbers of files on the My Files page. I also understand the need to preserve project files.
Perhaps a compromise would be to create an Archive tab under My Files. Previous versions and retired project files could then be automatically moved into this holding area when a new version is published, thus preserving the files in a separate area that is still accessible to the author.
I will submit this suggestion to our product management team to consider as a future enhancement.

  • How to add metadata to multiple images via Template

    Hi
Wonder if anyone can tell me if it is possible to add Metadata to multiple images using a metadata template.  I see that I can add to multiple using Organizer but with that you have to type in the metadata.  In Elements 11 I can do it using a template but only for 1 image at a time.
Is there a way to do this in Elements 11 or Organizer?
    Thanks in Advance.

In the File properties dialog of the editor you can enter your values in the metadata tabs, then use the 'Import' button on the bottom of the dialog, switch to 'Export' and that exports your values as a template.
As far as I know, this is to be used in the advanced dialog of the downloader : you can use your templates at import time for a batch of images.
Otherwise, when you have selected many images in the organizer, you can click on the 'Add IPTC data' button in the tags panel on the right side : you have to enter the data which will be applied to all the selected files.

  • Save same bookmark in multiple folders without having to do it manually. Is there and add-on that can help me fix this issue?

If I have a bookmark in a folder and I save a new folder that may overlap with the old bookmarks the bookmarks from the old folder are automatically removed, this is a problem for me and I cant always manually go fix it.
    If I have a folder named A1-D1 that has bookmarks A1, B1, C1 & D1
    & now I am searching bookmarks related to A & want a new folder A1-A4 with bookmarks A1, A2, A3 & A4
when I save the new group of bookmarks it removes A1 from A1-D1, which is horrible.
& its very time consuming & frustrating to have to manually fix this every time.
I know Firefox did this on purpose to prevent duplicate bookmarking but this is worse than having the the same bookmark being repeated more than it needs to. Now when I am looking at folder A1-D1 i don't even know how many of them have disappeared & have to search all over again.
I hope they fix it soon.
Please let me know if there is an add-on that will prevent Firefox form ruining my bookmarks.

This extension gets around that limitation for me. <br />
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-bookmark-here-2/
Really nothing to be fixed, that "feature" was added to Firefox 3 when the "Tags" feature was added to Firefox bookmarks. The concept is to use Tags to categorize a single bookmark with multiple Tags, instead of the user saving the same bookmark to multiple folders. I don't care for Tags and save the same bookmark to whatever folders I want it in using that extension.

  • Add Multiple Folders as Individual Playlists in iTunes

I usually drag and drop folders in my library to add the folder as a playlist. But the folder has folders inside that I would like as a playlist too. I would like to save time by not having to drag this folders also, one by one.

Is there a script or a way to this?

  • How can I Manage Multiple Users?

My wife and I both want to organize and edit our digital photos with PSE10.  Up until now, I have managed all of our photos by myself, and I have synchronized all data on both of our computers (and backed up all of our data to an external harddrive).  Now that my wife also wants to organize and edit our photos on her computer, I am finding it difficult to synchronize the PSE Catalogs and photos on our two computers.  So, I am looking for a better procedure.
Should I (and can I) keep my PSE Catalog & Photos on:
    (1) an External Harddrive (which would be connected to only one computer at a time, while that computer user is organizing and editing photos), or
    (2) on a Home Network location where both users could access the photos for organizing and editing (with a "lockout" for photos which are being edited by the other computer user)?
Are there other good or better procedures for managing multiple users of PSE?
My computer is running Win7 Home Premium 64-bit.
My wife's computer is running Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Thank all of you for your replies.
    Re SOFTWARE CHOICES:
I decided that my wife and I will each use different software on our different computers.
I decided NOT to upgrade my wife's software from "Windows Live Photo Gallery" (WLPG) to "Adobe Photoshop Elements 10" (PSE).  After a detailed discussion of my wife's wishes, I discovered that she only wants to (1) move our pictures into folders, (2) cull the pix, and (3) create "Album" folders (with only our most memorable pix) to be printed as 8.5" x 11" pages for the Albums.  She wants me to crop, edit, add captions, and print the Album pages.  See the image at the bottom for our current Photo Mgmt Plan.
I will continue to use "Lightroom" (Lr).
    Re SYCHRONIZATION:
I decided that we both can use the same picture files.  I use "GoodSync" to sychronize files between my computer and my wife's computer (and between my computer and my backup HDD).
My wife's "WLPG" does NOT appear to use a database.  My changes (including "Keyword" edits or adds) show up in her "WLPG" program, when picture files have been changed by myself in "Lr" and sychronized with her computer.
After my wife adds folders and/or changes the folder contents, I sync her computer with mine.  I open her folders (which are now also on my computer) in "Lr", and "Import" any of her new and duplicate pictures into "Lr".  Surpisingly and thankfully, the pictures that have been moved to a new folder by my wife do NOT show up in "Lr" in the previous folder (i.e. I do NOT have to find and delete any "Missing" images which were in the previous folder location).
Re MULTIPLE USERS OF A DATABASE:
I do not need to use this now, but I read that "Lr" is designed to work with the "Lr" database (and pictures) on an external HDD.
Thank all of you again for your very helpful replies.

  • Managing multiple libraries

    Hello everyone,
is there a way (even through a third-party add-on) to manage multiple libraries (I actually need to have only 2 libraries) in iTunes?
I'm asking so because I need to move part of my podcast collection to an external drive (I want to keep only the most "important" podcasts in my Mac and the rest of them in a external drive). But I'd like to make this change transparent to iTunes (I don't want to choose the library I want to mount every time I use iTunes).
Thanks and have a nice weekend.
    Sig

I'm asking so because I need to move part of my podcast collection to an external drive (I want to keep only the most "important" podcasts in my Mac and the rest of them in a external drive).
You don't need a separate library to do this.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Set the *iTunes media folder location* to the external.
In iTunes, select the items you want on the external then right click -> Consolidate selected files.
This will copy these to the external drive.
You can then delete them from the internal.
Then set iTunes prefs -> Advanced, *iTunes media folder location* back to the internal.
I'm looking for something integrated within iTunes
Then no, you cannot manage separate libraries except holding Option when starting and selecting the library you want.

  • Managing multiple libraries with different file types (AAC v. Lossless)

I have set up two libraries, one for my AAC music and the other for my lossless music. The files themselves are located in two separate places on my hard drive. When I switch libraries (option-clicking iTunes), and go to Preferences/Advanced tab, the directory for the files and the import method doesn't change -- I have to change it manually. This is annoying.
Does anyone know of a way to automate this change, so that if I open a new library, the default location of the files and the import format changes automatically? I tried ituneslibrarymanager from Dougscripts, but for some reason can't get this program to install on my machine.

No, it's the same Windows XP user account, but I have two separate music libraries - the music files in library are in a lossless format, while those in the other are in AAC. For convenience, I wish to keep the two libraries separate.
In iTunes 7 it is possible to have separate libraries - start iTunes and hold down the SHIFT key (Windows) while the program starts. A dialogue box then appears where the required library can be selected. However, as far as I can tell, it's not possible to have a different set of preferences for each library.
Say the preferences are set up for my lossless library, which is located on a separate network drive. If I then make the AAC library active and open iTunes, iTunes reindexes the library according to the settings for the lossless library and I end up with the AAC library full of lossless files. I've tried unchecking various things in the preferences box, but I've had no luck fixing the problem. Thanks for your suggestion - I have already reported the problem.
The whole thing is a rather inelegant way of managing multiple libraries in iTunes. Surely the Apple developers can come up with a way of doing it from within iTunes??

  • Managing Multiple Dynamic Windows (AJAX/HTML)

Looking for a little direction on managing multiple dynamic windows. Creating windows that can be identified, and altered potentially, from the main window. Also, testing to see if a window already exists.
Any help in idenitifying windows would be great. Just looking for a little insight to get me going.
    Thanks

I figured out a way around the dynamic window references. Not truly the ideal solution however it works. I essentially created an array just for window instances. On window creation, I add a reference to it within my window array. Then reference the array to see if the window reference exists. If so, then do nothing. If not, then I can create the new window. On close of the dynamically generated windows, I remove the reference to it from my window array.
It works, but I feel this is not the most ideal way to do it. If there is another solution or approach that may be easier please feel free to add it.

  • Managing multiple servers

Not sure what i am looking for at the moment but we have 6 * solaris 9 servers, 5 * solaris 10, about 30 zones and it's only going to get bigger.
it's become a real pain to manage(add, remove, keep track) users across multiple server/zones. How do other people go about managing multiple servers i for one don't want to log into each box/ zone and create a user accout which is currently what we do.
Guess what i am looking for is some way of managing all of our boxes from a central point.

Using a directory service like NIS or LDAP will allow user accounts for many hosts to be created and managed centrally. LDAP is what Active Directory is based on. Sun's implementation is called iPlanet. Sun One Directory Server, or Java Directory service, depending on the phases of the moon.
For spotting problems on servers (disk full, host down, &c), we use nagios. It's fantastic.
My employer also spent a good deal of money on opsware, but shall we say the benefits of it are not yet obvious.
