  • Managing PDF's in iTunes for iBooks is difficult.

Managing PDF's in iTunes for iBooks is difficult due to the names of the files I'm working with.  The PDF will have a burned-in name, yet I want to rename the files in Windows to make them easier to find (iBooks renames the files ON THE FLY when opening the PDF's from iBooks on the iPad2).  I also have several versions of the same PDF (First Edition (c) 2000, Second Edition (c) 2004, Third Edition (c) 2008, Fourth Edition (c) 2012, etc) and want to rename the files as such.  Is there a way to leverage iBooks in this scenario to better meet my needs?

I was originally using Stanza in IOS4 and it COMPLETELY met my needs, but it stopped working with the release of IOS5 which forced me to iBooks.  I believe that Stanza now works since they patched it.  The migration to iBooks consumed a whole day and I'm still VERY unhappy with how things turned out in iBooks.  I was hoping for an iBooks solution, so that I wouldn't have to redo everything all over again.  Ideally, I would like to get iBooks working, else will look into moving back to Stanza, Goodreader, Adobe Reader or an Android Tablet.

  • Manage PDF on relation designer-customer

Is there any solution (Adobe) to manage PDF#1, PDF#2, PDF#3, ........ documents on relation designer-customer.
    Meaning...
    step1: creating layout in indesign(.indd) CS6
step2: export to PDF#1 and send to review layout
step3: make modifications in indd accordind to received PDF#1 rewievs
step4: export to PDF#2 and send again to review layout
step5: make modifications in indd accordind to received PDF#2 rewievs
step6: export to PDF#3 and send again to review/approwe layout
step7: make additional modifications in indd
step8: export to PDF#4 and send again to approwe layout
step......... until customer finaly approwe layout and I send highres PDF to printing house.
Now I manualy add version number to PDF filename prior sending to review, but this job became confused as number of layout modifications increase.
Acrobat X pro "send to rewiew" platform do not handle this kind of workflow, because after every review I make new PDF(export from indd) and all prewious review track is lost.
Othervise "send to review" works fine if I collect comments from many reviewers of single PDF.
    Many thanks, Klemen

Sorry, but no. It used to be possible via  CS Review, which was part of InDesign CS5. That has been closed down.
Something similar may come along in the future but I'm not promising anything.

  • Save As PDF causing browsers crash

I've used Safari, Firefox (1.0.7 and 1.5), Internet Explorer, and Mozilla and every time I select "save as PDF" a webpage in the Print feature, it resulted in a browser crash. Every time.
Have Apple addressed this persistently annoying bug already?
    Thanks.

Is there anything helpful in the Console's crash logs? Are you able to print to a printer from any of these browsers? Please provide as much detail as possible.

  • CS6:  Adobe Help Manager - PDF download/extraction error

Hi - we have received several reports through this forum that some users are encountering an issue when downloading Help reference PDFs through the Adobe Help Manager in CS6.
Problem: Although the application appears to be downloading the Help content, the application hangs during the 'extraction' phase of the process. Further, when users check in their shared documents folder, the PDF files are actually present and unzipped as expected.
Solution:  the application database files and/or corrupt configuration files are likely at fault. To resolve the issue, please delete the following two directories.
    Delete the following directory:
    Windows: %appdata%/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
Tip:  To find this directory in Windows, copy the preceding phrase into the Windows Explorer file manager.
    Mac OS: /[user name]/Library/Preferences/chc.4875E02D9FB21EE389F73B8D1702B320485DF8CE.1
Tip:   To find this directory on Mac OSX 10.7, open the Terminal application and enter the following: "chflags nohidden ~/Library/” and execute.
    And delete this directory too:
Windows : C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe\ (Help and PDF directories within)
Mac : \Users\Shared\Documents\Adobe (Help and PDF directories within)
Then simply restart the Help Manager and restart the download process.
The engineering team is continuing to investigate the root cause but the steps above should resovle the issue for the majority of users.  Thanks for your patience while we continue to investigate.

    Hi Mark
I was almost sure that this issue was related to our proxy, so I decided to trace the dialog between HelpManager and our proxy.
I used a HTTP sniffer called Charles  ( demo downloadable here:  http://www.charlesproxy.com/ ) to trace everything.
    Bingo !
HelpManager has some problems talking with the proxy ( authentication issues ).
If you are interessed, I can mail you the log created by my sniffer to allow your engineering team to investigate.
Hereafter are some screen shots of the trace :
As you can see, it's very short :
    1) the first HEAD failed (normal) : the proxy request an NTLM authentication
    HEAD #1 request :
    HEAD #2 answer :
    2) the 2nd HEAD failed :
HelpManager did not respected the NTLM authentication method requested by our proxy !
    HEAD #2 request :
    HEAD #2 answer : error 403 !
    3) then a POST is made :
Failed because the authentication is bad  (not NTLM, as expected by our proxy)
    POST request :
    POST answer : error 403
    4) then a GET is made on the URL :
    http://www.adobe.com/support/chc/update/400/fr_FR/update.xml
This time, the authentication negotiation between HelpManager and the proxy is OK, but the last GET failed : error 404, the requested xml file is not found on your site !
    GET #3 request :
    GET #3 answer : error 404
Mark, I hope these informations will help your engineering team to correct this issue !
Feel free to request complementary information if needed.
    Best regards,
    Didier Nicolas

  • Talent Management - PDF Docs IMG Config Step

    Hello,
We are having some issues with the configuration step u201CAssign Application Forms to Elements of PDF-Based Documentsu201D.
Here are the steps we have taken so far:
    1) Copied the Application Forms from Client 000 (HRTMC_RM_COVER, HRTMC_RM_TALENT_AGENDA_TOPIC, HRTMC_TALENT_PROFILE, HRTMC_TALENT_SHORT_PROFILE) to our Sandbox & Development Clients
    2) Set u2018Use Complex Bundlingu2019 to u201Ctrueu201D via FPCONNECT (SM31)
    3) Attempted to add the different u201CParameter valuesu201D HRTMC values (specified above) to the IMG config step assign application forms to elements of pdf-based docs
When trying to complete #3, we receive an error u2018enter a valid valueu2019. I checked both the Application Forms and the Forms Class and these objects exist, and are active. We even re-transported the objects to see if that was the problem, but it did not work.
Any thoughts to why we are receiving this message?

Can anyone tell me how doea the portal talent management configuration work???

  • Power Manager PDF?

Is there a .pdf file somewhere that lists what each setting in the Lenovo Power Manager does? I found a "Deployment Guide" on lenovo's website, but that's not what I'm looking for.
ThinkPads and SSDs: Part 1 Part 2 Part 3

Thanks for the reply Unfortunately, the Power Manager help didn't have details about what individual options mean.
For example, in Advanced mode on the Power Plan tab, I'm curious about:
System settings-->System Performance. What the heck does "Turbo" and "Maximum turbo" even translate to? Better still, what does the System Performance setting change specifically?
Advanced settings--> PCI Express link state power management - Does anything less than "maximum power savings" affect my CPU or hard drive speeds?
I guess those are my only questions. Anyone have any Power Manager insights/answers?

  • How to manage PDF opening in client installed Adobe Reader?

    Hi!
As a background, I have this Document Library in SharePoint Online containing PDF files that are supposed to be confidential files wherein the users can only view the pdf documents, restricting the Printing, Copying of Content and Saving/Dowloading.
As a workaround, this PDF files are password encrypted and toolbars and menu bars are hidden by default. That's why I need to open it using the local client PDF Adobe Reader. Since if through the browser, the pdf file security enforced becomes useless with
the Save and Button buttons visible and Browser Menu Bar can directly be accessed.
My problem is how do I enforce that PDF files stored in a Document Library in SharePoint Online be opened directly in local client PDF Adobe Reader without asking the users to
Disable the Adobe PDF Reader add-on of their browser IE  because we have no control over if they follow it or not and also this will also depend on the type of browser used by the user.
Why is it that this Library Settings option in SharePoint Online does not work "open documents in the local client application"?
Please your solution to this would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Venus

    Hi,
From your description, you might want to force the .pdf file to not able to open in browser.
As there is no such OOTB feature can meet your requirement, a workaround is that we can use JavaScript to iterate through the Name column of the library, if there is
a file name ends with “.pdf”, we can modify the click event of the name string element of the Name column of this item to make it download the file instead of opening it.

  • Acrobat (Reader) 8 not capable of opening AES-256 protected rights management PDF?

    Is this really true?
Didn't find a datasheet explaining the Client-side requirements, when
    AES-256-encrypting PDF documencs with LCRM.
In my lab it seems, as if Reader-9 can open those documents fine, while Reader-8 fails decrypting.
    Dilettanto

Acrobat/Reader 9 were the first version to incorporate AES-256 code, so if you want to remain backwards compatible with Reader 7 or 8 you need to continue to use AES-128. I believe this is documented in the help for the section that describes how policy edit works.

  • SSRS 2012 SP2, Native / Report Manager, non-IE browsers show date parameters in US format MM/DD/YYYY, ignoring locale settings

I have a server running SSRS 2012 SP2, in Native / Report Manager mode. The server, reports, desktop etc are all set to en-AU.
Using IE, date parameters show as expected in DD/MM/YYYY format.  However using Chrome or Firefox, they show in US format MM/DD/YYYY.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi Jiri,
Thanks for that speedy tip - that has solved it for Chrome.
I followed a similar path to get it fixed for Firefox - Settings / Content / Languages / add English/Australia [en-au] / Move Up to top spot.

  • Scanning, managing pdf docs with Microsoft Access

I'm an experienced Access developer, but new to Acrobat SDK. Is it possible to create an application in Access (VBA) that tags documents as they are scanned into pdf files, then retreive/display those documents using those tags or searching the pdf files? If this is possible, could someone point me to documentation or code examples where I can learn how to do this?
Thanks much in advance for any suggestions and guidance.

By "tag" I mean a short descriptor field that can be filled in by an operator for each document that is scanned, then can be used to pull up and view the document later. Specifically, the application would store scanned copies of prescriptions. Here's how it would work: The operator would load one or more prescriptions into a scanner. As each prescription is scanned, the scanner would pause to let the operator enter the prescription number into a database. The database would store the tag field and either an actual copy of the prescription or a pointer to the pdf file. Later, the operator could enter a prescription number into the database app and the image or pdf file would be displayed.
Thanks again for any advice you can give me.

  • Customs Management / PDF-Attachments

    Dear all,
I'm currently trying to test the complete process of customs communication. I already get a feedback from the customs testserver with a PDF declaration. The Seeburger BIS system sends this file to SAP GTS (status successful) but I cannot find the file anywhere in the system.
I guess the system tries to store it into a content repository which is assigned in transaction OAC3 to object type BUS6800 and document type GTSOCH801A/802A/802Z.
Is there any standardized setting which can be used for the content repositiory in order to store the incoming files somewhere? I could not find something useful in all and every SAP documentation concerning GTS, so I can't go on with the process.
    Thanks in advance
    Benjamin

    Dear Michael,
no, I have found out a few things since yesterday but no solution.
The connection where the files should be stored is visible over transaction DMWB (KPRO administration) and transaction OACT (connection of the KPRO Model to the content repository).
You will find an entry for "Legal and Logistics services" and also a content repository LLS_COR_DOC_REP which seems to be the correct one. The repository refers to the link table /SAPSLL/CORCONT where I found some new entries after execution of the PDF function in the Seeburger system. So the system definitively does something but in the storage archive of the repository there is no file...
An additional information that might be helpful: the function module which is executed by the Seeburger system is /SAPSLL/ECC_PDF_ATT_CREATE.
If you have any news about this, please inform me.
    Kind Regards
    Benjamin

  • Manage PDF File Name

How do I change the name of a PDF file on an iPad?

View the Documents in Adobe Reader. Click the Edit button (upper right). Click the file whose name you want to edit (a red checkbox appears). Click the 4th icon (I bar) to edit the name.

  • Migrating site to Public Site Manager: PDFs not visible

We are migrating our site to the new system. All files appear to have been transferred successfully, except that PDFs (and new PDFs we upload) do not have links, and can not be downloaded.
Is this because we are viewing the collections in preview mode? When we go live, will the PDFs automatically be available (video and audio files are playable right now)?
    Thanks,
    Graham

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Schubert|it PDF Browser Plugin, as the Adobe plugin is not available for Firefox 5, and this time it seems to work for most sites. There are some artifacts in many PDFs as viewed using the Schubert plugin, though, which don't seem to be present when using the Adobe one, so I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me if/when the Adobe plugin will work with Firefox 5? And will either the Schubert or the Adobe plugin work with Firefox 6?

  • Managing PDF's without Adobe Reader

Now that I have a new MBP and 10.6 I'm without Adobe Reader and everything is going to "preview".
How do I get long documents to open with a straight on view for every page instead of preview showing them side ways? I can get each single page to turn so that I can see them right on, but that's impossible to do when you have in excess off 300 pages.
With Adobe Reader you could even use the numbers section to move to an exact page. Is that possible with preview?

With the document in question open, make sure the sidebar is showing (View -> Sidebar -> Show Sidebar) and make sure the view (in View -> Sidebar) is set to either Contact Sheet or Thumbnails. Select the thumbnails for the pages that need rotating, or use Edit -> Select All, and then rotate.
BTW, in the future you should be a bit more specific than saying you want "a straight on view"... that's extremely imprecise language, and it took me a minute to figure out what you were talking about. I had this vision in my head of looking at the edge of a stack of paper and couldn't figure out what in Preview might have looked like that...
