Manage Public Share User Access - At least a Read-Only option

Hi WD!I just bought a WD My Cloud 3TB and the first thing I wanted to do was to restrict access to the PUBLIC share so that not anymone can manage everything its own way. I've been across a lot of posts around the WD forums and other sites on the web and I found out I'm not the only person having the same "problem" as me. I know it is possible to tweak the box using the SSH access (BTW, thanks for opening up this access!) and modify the rights from behind, but with a sharp and clear GUI like what I seen, I cannot think this option is not present. I don't understand why (I'm no Linux pro here!) the "public access" switch in the GUI is not replace by a user  name "public" that I would be able to give read or RW access to this specific share (and all the other share I would also create!). In fact, this should behave more like the "everyone" user in Windows on which I can set the access I want. If this is a by design need for other features, why these so-called features cannot simply use a different credential to access the Public share? Well, all in all, I want a way to manage the "everyone" access on the public share (and also the other custom shares). Everyone else than WD people, please kudos (star on the left) this post so maybe WD will hear us all...  Thanks in advance! --David

Hi user78995,
We do the executeQuery() after the commit in the taskflow, we see the logging saying that the query has been executed and show the correct number of rows being returned.
So, I believe we are oke with the rows in bc, it is now only the refresh of the component in JSF.
I can not do the partialtrigger programmatically, since (in the afterlistener) I do not have access to the bindingcontainer.
Any other way to perform this partialtrigger, please let me know.
Thank you in advance.

  • Access denied to a READ-ONLY data source

CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
I'm using Crystal 10 sevice pack 6.  My report is using an ODBC connection to a PSql 9.5 stored procedure.  The stored procedure creates a temp table and inserts records from 3 different ticket tables.  It has one parameter in it that selects which location to load the table with.  My report works fine as long as I don't try to put any of the fields from the temp table on the report.  If I do, then I get the following error.
Failed to open a rowset. Details: 42000:[Pervasive][ODBC Client Interface][LNA][Pervasive][ODBC Engine Interface][Data Record Manager][SPEng][Pervasive][ODBC Engine Interface]Access denied to a READ-ONLY data source.
I found that this was an issue in Crystal 9.0, but nothing with cr 10.
Does anyone know of a work around or fix for this scenario??
    Thanks - Cathy

Thanks for the quick reply Don.
If you have the option that Pervasive uses to not use the exclusive lock on the DB try adding it to the SQLExpression function in CR.
I am not sure how to accomplish this.  I've done some quick searching but cannot come up with SQL that indicates locking unless I am using some kind of language like VB or C#.
Here is my Command Object statement
    INSERT INTO RASAPSign
    (sVendNo, sChqNo, dtDateSigned)
    VALUES
    ('{?VendNum}', '{?ChqNum}', CURDATE());
    SELECT sVendNo, sChqNo, dtDateSigned
    FROM RASAPSign
    WHERE sVendNo = '{?VendNum}' and sChqNo = '{?ChqNum}'
Can you give me an idea of what to change?  Or at least what terminology to search for?
I tried this option with BEGIN and END
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO RASAPSign
    (sVendNo, sChqNo, dtDateSigned)
    VALUES
    ('{?VendNum}', '{?ChqNum}', CURDATE());
    END
    SELECT sVendNo, sChqNo, dtDateSigned
    FROM RASAPSign
    WHERE sVendNo = '{?VendNum}' and sChqNo = '{?ChqNum}'
But I get a syntax error.
    Thanks, rasinc

  • Accidently changed the "ownership & permissions" access admin setting to "read only"

In the "Get Info" window on my MacBook hard drive icon, I accidently changed the "ownership & permissions" access admin setting to "read only" & now it won't re-boot the operating system. Just displays the Apple logo & running wheel on a white screen . Any advice on how best to re-set/restore would be very much appreciated, thanks

This might help. Otherwise, it might be necessary to reinstall.

  • Access Database Opens in Read Only for Users

I just moved an Access Database to a new server (from Server 2003 to Server 2012). From the server, using Office 2010, I can open the database without issue but, if a user try's to open the same database from either a shortcut or mapped with Office 2010,
they get the message that the database is Read Only. Did I miss a step in moving the database to the new server? Thanks

    Hi,
Did your user get the error message "You are trying to open a read-only database..."? If it was, please try the following method:
On the desktop, double-click My Computer.
Locate the Microsoft Access database that you moved.
Right-click the database name, and then click Properties.
In the Properties dialog box, clear the Read-only check box under
    Attributes.
Click OK to apply the change.
    Open your database in Access.

  • How to share a usb connected drive as read only with smb

I have OS X 10.10 installed and want to share a folder on a USB connected hard drive (HFS+ formatted) via SMB as read only.
(The client computers should not be able to change nor delete files from the share.)
I created a share in system preferences->file sharing and configured only myself as user to have read/write access.
Still another user is able to connect to the share from another Mac running OS X 10.6.8 and can delete files from it!
I have disabled AFP sharing. Only SMB sharing is enabled.
Is there a major bug in SMB sharing in Yosemite or am I missing something.

  • Can users without Publisher 2010 view (read only) Publisher pieces in a SharePoint 2010 library?

I'm (very) new to SharePoint 2010 and fumbling my way through it with a certain amount of success. We have a variety of Publisher 2010 items I wanted to be made available in a library. Not all of the users in the group have Publisher, so I converted them
all to PDF...which doesn't seem to work with SharePoint 2010. So my question is...if a member of the group does not have Publisher 2010, will he or she be able to view these same items if I post them as read only in Publisher? OR, even better, is there
a workaround for PDFs? Thanks so much! --SMGKatz

EDITING original response to Mike Smith below.
    Updated here:
At Mike's suggestion, I tried the XPS/XML route and we have a WINNER!!! Multiple problems solved.
    Thanks, Mike!
This is helpful and leads me to a second question... we all have either Adobe Acrobat X Standard or at least Acrobat Reader, but the PDFs were giving us trouble. When you mention "a PDF viewer" were you referring to Acrobat Reader or is there some
sort of plug-in that plays with SharePoint?
The only way to convert them to Word would be to save the Publisher pieces as images and drop them into Word, which I can do. I had hoped to post items in the library that users could download to use and the PDF is much more versatile than a Word document
for this purpose. I haven't yet tested the quality/resolution of the PDF vs Word w/ an image dropped in, so I don't know if this would be an issue, as well.
We've always gone the PDF route. Maybe I'll explore XPS options and see how that works out for me. I have to be honest, I never knew what XPS was until you mentioned it and I looked it up. So thank you for that, as well! That may end up being my solution!

  • Built in photo sharing function, no options to share on my facebook albums. The only options are 'Wall' and 'OS X Photo'

    As titled.
Few days ago I am able to share my photos to my facebook albums.
But suddenly, I was not able to do it again. The only options remain are 'Wall' and 'OS X Photos'
I would like to ask how can I get the options to share my photos on a specific facebook album.
    Thanks.

same here on 10.8.5! I am not sure, but I think I had the access to the albums under 10.8.4! Anyway, looking for a solution too.
    thanks

  • User-entered field treated as read-only

I created a large form in version 7. I brought it into version 8 to work on it some more. I believe this may be related to going from 7 to 8...
I have lots of numeric fields in rows and columns. All the fields are User Entered - Optional. When I view it in Preview, one field in the middle will not allow entry. It's as if the field were Read Only. I go back to Design mode and the field is still listed as User Entered. This occurs on a few pages.
Anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

My office uses Times New Roman as a standard font for all our forms, I dragged several of the most used standard objects into a blank form, altered them to fit our standards and then dragged them back into the standard tab. Much easier than going through the process each and every time you need to pull a field in, fyi. You can also put a script into a field and put it into either the custom tab or create your own tab for personal objects, I find this saves me huge time by not having to re-type scripts over and over.

  • Is it possible to have access to PU12 in read only to avoid SOD issues?

    Hi
We would like to provide PU12 to a small number of users for troubleshooting purposes with our payroll interface, however PU12 transaction is one that is a SOD issue, namely: 'Modify payroll master data and then process payroll.  Potential for fraudulent activity'
Is there an equivalent read only transaction that SAP has to view the export history data possibly, or else a way to change the settings of PU12 to make it read only via a custom tcode?
Any advice would be very helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Make the variant of the screen and provide the separate Tcode using SE93.

  • Unable to access permissions/ Macintosh HD Read only?

I was trying to install Mavericks when I realized I had no ability to do so. When the prompt for my password was given, I typed it in, and entered. It was accepted, but nothing happened. The window stayed at the same page.
I went on to system preferences and tried to unlock my "Users and Groups" menu, but after entering the password, it seems nothing happen. It just remains as it was.
I later found out my Macintosh HD has been set to Read Only for wheel and everyone, but System retains Read and Write permissions. Is someone able to help me? Many thanks.

For whatever reason, I decided to trash the Envelope Index in the Mail Library.  I don"t know why I did this but it worked.   Thank goodness.

  • Can I batch change user access to folders & file read-write permissions?

I had a corrupted user account on my iMac and after weeks of trying repairs I followed a forum suggestion to delete my account.
Before doing so I synced all my document folders and files (since 2004) over my LAN to an external hard drive that was attached to my MacMini. I then deleted the iMac account.
Next I backed up my Mac Mini user account with Time Machine. I then created a new iMac User account on the iMac and let the iMac access Time Machine to bring over all my MacMini preferences, settings, desktop, etc. I now have a fully functioning iMac user account.
Here is the problem. I attached the USB external drive directly to my iMAC. I can access some of the folders and files on the external hard drive. Most of them refuse to let me acces the folder or open a file. If I use the GET INFO command I see an "_unknown" user with "read and write". I see an "everyone" with "no access". I can individually change each folder and file to allow my user account access and give myself permission to read and write the files. I cannot delete delete the "_unknown" account.
It will take me days to individually change each folder and file manually like I am now doing.
Is there a way to use Automator to add my user account to the folder or file and give me read and write folder and file permissions?
Or is there any other way to do this in a batch change?
Is there something I need to do to the external files right now that will ensure that I can access them if either computer crashes and I need to replace the MAC? I would hate to have to go through this again. Would having a MAC server instead of an external drive solve this?
I am using MAC OS 10.6.8 with the most recent updates installed (as of today).
    Thanks,
    Sandi Dickenson

Select the icon of the external drive in the sidebar of a Finder window, and open the Info window. In the "Sharing & Permissions" section of the window, click the lock icon and authenticate. Make sure you have read & write access to the volume by changing the settings if necessary. Then, from the action menu (gear icon), select "Apply to enclosed items."
The "_unknown" user and group are assigned automatically to files on a volume with the "Ignore permissions" option set.

  • MS Access 2007 opening in read only for a client

    Hi all,
I have a client that is using a shared database with 6 other people in their office. He is the first one to move to Windows 7.
He can open the database without any problem, but it opens as read only. I've seen others with similar issues in this and other forums. I wondered if there are solutions out there for this?

  • Bookmarks is transitioning able to access your bookmarks in read-only -expect the transition to be fully complete by October 20, 2011, after which you will have access to your bookmarks with the ability to add/ edit/ delete bookmarks.

CAN ANYTHING BE DONE TO SPEED UP THIS TRANSITION PLEASE?

Looking at the error message "The Network Adapter could not establish the connection" , It appears hostname and port may be incorrect. Review the targets.xml under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\emd and
emoms.properties under E:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\SAP_solman_SDB\config folder to make sure host ( sap_solman) and port (1527) are correct.
As far as setting the environment variables goes, you can go to control panel -> system -> advanced -> environment variables and set the ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID

  • Safety issue: Another user can access some read only folders of mine

    Hi,
big, serious problem: I had created a simple account user for guest access on my 10.5.7 system. Now i logged into this account, opened the finder and browsed my supervisor's home directory. Some folders i had created in there were readable (including the websites folder). Okay, they were set to readable (read only, not read write) according to the Information Window (CMD-I).
But when i browsed them i decided to delete a file. I selected the file, hit the delete button and wooosh away it was. What the f..? I wasn't even asked for my supervisor' s password. It just had deleted the file.
Crosschecking by creating a new folder and moving it into the very same directory revealed i had write access. NOT GOOD! (scream!)
Anyone had the same shocking experience of OS X being not safe?
However, after i changed the permissions of the respective folders to "no permissions" and then changed them back to "read only", they at least were read only.
But hey - how can I tell which folders of mine are really safe? I can't check up every folder if another user on my system has "by accident" write permissions to a folder which reads "read only" in the Information Window.
    Help!

    Hi,
I've created the first folder as a "Data" Folder *inside my home directory* to archive Downloads of different kinds (Programs / Utils / all this stuff). i wanted to have these Downloads accessible for all Users so that they can get the Data out of this folder. So the path is /Users/(me)/Data.
The other folder is my "Website" folder, standard OS X.
The exact Information of the Info Window:
    (Me) read&write
    admin read&write
    everyone read only
the User account in question is not an admin account.
now I'm completely confused. are you saying that you can write to this folder from a different account which is not an admin account?? that should not be possible based on these permissions. please double-check and make sure that the other account is not listed as admin in system preferences->accounts.
also, these permissions are wrong anyway. did you change them yourself? the default permissions on a newly created folder in your home directory should look quite different. log in as your main user and make a folder at the top level of your home directory. what are the permissions there?
P.S. the unknown user you see is quite normal if you upgraded to leopard from Tiger.
My account is an admin account.
    Thanks for the reply,

  • User Access when User belongs to multiple teams

I have a user that belongs to two teams:  one of the teams has a task profile that includes only eAnalyze and is assigned a member access profile that has read only access to the application; the other team has a task profile that includes eAnalyze and SubmitData and is assigned a member access profile that has read and write access to the same application.
Because one of the teams has a lower member access profile of read only, does that mean that if the user tries to submit data, the submission will be denied?
In other words, if a user effectively has multiple user access profiles, does the LOWER access always win out?
    Thanks in advance,
    Valerie Dixon

    Hi,
As already indicated, the higher profile wins. The best way to understand this is to create a union of the different profiles assigned to the same user through different teams. The result what you get after union is the final profile of the user.
    Hope this helps.
