Manage sites

I recently tried to edit my websites in the usual way but this time found that there are no site files yet I can see the files in my desktop directory. In Dreamweaver the local files shows all the files on my desktop instead of just the site files so it's very hard to navigate. I'm not sure what changed or how to solve this anyone know please?

No I can select the files in the panel but I cannot get into file Manager to update the data as the local files are not showing. I can send a screen shot if it helps.
A screenie would help, as what you are saying here doesn't make sense to me.  I'm not sure what you mean by "cannot get into file Manager".  And I'm not sure what data it is you are wanting to update.

  • Managing Sites In DW CS3

I some how changed my settings and my local files address is
now preceded by ftp:// . I use to be able to see files in expanded
form for both Local and Remote files. How do I change back to what
I had before? My site's home page is now all messed up since some
of the links have been changed.

    Since you use standard
http:// protocol, and since your online site can
be viewed properly, you are likely well-positioned for a full
    recovery.
STEP ONE: If, as you have suggested, your local and remote
Dreamweaver folders appear identical, then everything that you have
online is likely also on your local hard disk. Just in case it is
not, you should back up your local folder before taking any further
action. Move it to a safe place and even change its name so as to
    avoid confusion.
STEP TWO: After having backed up your local folder, delete
your site from your Manage Sites menu. This will destroy
Dreamweaver's record of your online site, so that you can start
    over.
STEP THREE: Return to the Manage Sites Menu and click on New.
Make sure that you select Site and not FTP/RDS.
STEP FOUR: If you can understand the Advanced tab, use it to
create your new site. Otherwise, use the Basic tab and begin from
scratch. In either case download what is online back into your
computer, so as to be sure that everything on you computer is as it
    appears online.
STEP FIVE: If there is anything missing in your newly created
local folder, then you can recover it by copying from the folder
that you backed up. Copy only content -- HTML, JPEG, and the like.
It is probably best not to copy anything created by Dreamweaver, as
you do not appear sufficiently familiar with the application to
know what could hurt or harm you.

  • Manage Sites/FTP: Can't see site files in local view.

    Dreamweaver 5.5
    Mac OS X.6.8
I have several sites set up in Dreamweaver. All are working correctly except one. This one site I moved files using Finder into a deeper directory and then moved them back up to the top level directory. I have been working with the site since and saving, so that's not the issue. I am mentioning it because that is the only unique thing about the site that isn't working.
When I look at the site in the Files panel, I can see the directory I set up in Manage Sites but no files inside it. If I put all to my remote site, 0 bytes are transferred.
    So far I have
    1. removed the site and created a new one.
    2. Closed the app, blown away Drmwvr prefs, and reopened. The site is still there, so that prefs file doesn't cover it.
Any ideas? I cannot FTP files to my host if Dreamweaver doesn't "see" the files I need to put.
    Thx

Moving files in Finder is fine as long as you can follow the moves in your files panel. Troubles start when you move files outside of DW and then can't keep up with them. Broken links, orphaned pages, etc.
In Sites>Manage Sites you need to Edit the site in question and browse to the new root folder location. Then browse to the images folder and SpryAssets folder if you have one. Once you have redefined the site with the proper locations, the files will appear in the panel in DW.
As long as you haven't deviated from the correct structure on the server, you should be able to put files and they will upload.
As a rule, when moving or renaming files in a defined site, do it from within the Files Panel in DW, not in Finder. DW will update links and pages when you do and things will go much more smoothly.

  • My Default Website Folder & Manage Sites info Not Appearing

The pop up box on the right with the Files, Assets, and Snippets has somehow changed my default "AAA_WebSite" folder under the Files tab to show "Computer." I can still drill down to the correct folder, but since it's not set to the correct folder, all my "Manage Sites" info is missing as well.
    Any thoughts?

If you're referring to what I think you're referring to, that's the Site Manager dropdown box where you can quick jump between sites in DW and select which site you want to work on.
Click the box (where it says Computer) and select "AAA_WebSite" from the dropdown menu.

  • Manage Sites - How to define skeleton

    Hi all,
My apologies if this has already been answered, I just can't
find it, and googled all day today to find a solution, so you guys
    are my last resort.
I do like the Manage Sites option, and use it quite
extensively (Win/Mac Platform). Now I would like to be able to
specify a default folder structure to be created everytime I create
a new Site. Basically cutting out the middleman, creating the
folder structure first in Windows Exploder and then having to go
back to dreamweaver and pointing to the 'doc root', is quite
    repetative.
If I recall it correctly, the New Site Manager creates by
default just the docroot, and if specified the images folder. Is
there a way to have a predefined folderstructure created, everytime
I create a new Site with Site Manager ?
I simply refuse to believe that Adobe / Macromedia overlooked
    such a useful feature.
Any help or pointers to plugins is greatly appreciated
    Windows / Mac : Dreamweaver CS3
    Thanks

  • Manage Sites Dialog Box Screen Redraw Problem

Using Dreamweaver CS6.0.1 on Mac Mountain Lion 10.8.2. When I open the "Manage Sites" dialog box, certain parts of the box are not visible unless I wave or click my mouse on that portion of the screen. Really sick of this. Also text entry into design view in Dreamweaver is maddeningly slow. I've got a fast Mac Pro with an SSD and 48 GB of RAM. Seriously would like to find the answers to these problems.

I have Dreamweaver CS6 on a MacBook Air with 4GB of RAM running OS X 10.8.2, and don't experience the problems you relate. However, there are some people on Macs who have been experiencing problems with 100% CPU and slow typing. Apparently these problems have been fixed in the Creative Cloud 12.1 update. If you're not a Creative Cloud subscriber, a fix should be coming shortly. See http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1100065.

  • Dreamweaver CS4 - Existing Site Name Changed in Manage Sites

Please help me! I have an existing site name from Manage Sites become slightly different site name from original.
For example, existing site name was fashionstars, now become ftp://fashionstars, with ftp:// in it. ( It happen when I did some try and error approach to do certain task, or press the wrong buttons etc) Is there any possibility to change back to original name fashionstars and how to do it? Otherwise I won't be able to upload files to remote site because of different site name appeared in Manage Sites.
Should I remove the modified site name ftp://fashionstars and recreate a new site name fashionstars and copy all exiting files from local site folder to new fashionstars?
    Regards,
    SSYYDD

Additional information, I use MacBook Pro to run Dreamweaver CS4.  The existing site has 150 MB file size, hundreds of files, so to recreate new site name, it has to start to create all manually, will take a long time. Is there any other ways I can recreate site fashionstars without to start all over again?
I am very worry about this, it may not be able to fix it. My website is stuck, won't be able to upload files any more.
Another problem is that I lost the SITE DEFINITIONS for fashionstars or htp://fashionstars . When I go to Manage Sites to edit site of ftp://fashionstars, it goes to CONFIGURE SERVER, not the SITE DEFINITIONS for fashionstars or ftp://fashionstars. Please help me.
( note  that I use the name fashionstars as an example only, not my real site name)
    Thank you.

  • Manage Sites console not working

when i go to edit a site and i have a choice of selecting site, server, version control and advanced.  I cant click on any of them and as i have changed my password with my host i need to change on ftp and it wont let me in help?

Let's start from scratch. Please restart your system and then fire up DW. Tell us which version of DW you are using.
Open DW's Site manager by using SITE > Manage Sites..., select a site and click on EDIT (or the pencil icon) to open the Site Setup panel for that site.

  • DW CS5.5 "Put" cannot ftp but Manage Site Test can

In DW CS 5.5 Build 11.5, clicking on "Put" or "Get" generates the error message "An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to the host" but at Site>Manage Sites>Server>Test, I get "Adobe DW CS 5.5 connected to your Web server successfully". Is there more than one place in DW to configure FTP? Thank you.

After not working for a week, suddenly today DW works. "Put" and "Get" both connect. The only thing I did in the interim was successfully run Site>Manage Sites>Server>Test several times over several days. I am grateful for whatever fixed the problem, but I cannot explain it.  I thank those of you here who read and considered my question.

  • CS4 to CS5 Manage sites problem

I have about 20 sites in the DW CS4 manages sites area, when I go to open sites in DWCS5 some of them do not show up in that manage sites folder.
    Any help?
    rd

Yes, I poked around and did this just before I saw your reply and it worked. What is also happening is
I have the CS4 and CS5  creative suites on my main hard drive. My plan was to go over all the new features in CS5 and then delete the CS4 versions. I notice that i get a lot of crashes as I close out any CS files. I would think this would be because of a preferences and double files and I just need to make sure now that before I delete DW4 from the drive that ALL my settings, prefs and passwords from DW4 are in DW CS5. Is there any other files I should back up before doing this?

  • How does new/manage site work on CS5

I am designing an ebook on dreamweaver for ICT coursework. I want to know how new/manage site works because this feature is how you save your work. When I try this, I get an error message saying that 'unable to write cache file'? Am I doing something wrong? What does this message mean?

The cache file is written to the user's personal configuration folder. On a Windows system, this is is in the user's hidden AppData folder. On a Mac, it's in the user's Library/Application Support folder (also hidden on recent versions of Mac OS X).
It sounds as though you're trying to do this on a network system where the user doesn't have permission to write to the necessary folder. This question belongs more in the main Dreamweaver CC forum. If you need further help, I suggest you post a follow-up question there.

  • Manage Sites in Flash?

    hello,
I am creating a new website for my work, I am new to flash
and I seem to have done something unexpected.
I created a flash document, uploaded to my server bin, all
went well. Until I noticed I wanted to change one of the words. So
I made the changes and tried to update the flash document.
I don't remember my exact steps but I found myself entering
my ftp info and whatnot in the manage sites function of flash,
thinking this would connect to my remote host and update the flash
    document.
Now when I goto dreamweaver my files view is completely
different. My site's root folder is no longer viewable in the files
area. When I goto the manage sites the list is empty, no site
folder. What did I do? I can find the sites folder in my FINDER but
    in dreamweaver I can't.

Do you see this site's name in the list of sites?
