Manage SPARC LDOMs with the OVM x86 GUI?

Today I watched this recent Oracle video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuGGZ1uLeN8
Note the use of "Oracle VM Manager" to migrate SPARC guest domains between a T3 and T4 host (see 0:18 to 0:36).
I'm fairly confident this is the Linux-based tool that comes with the OVM for x86 product. I don't think it's OC for OEM.
Does anyone know whether you can use Oracle VM Manager with SPARC? I would be interested to hear more about it.
I have never seen this before, perhaps it is an upcoming feature? Thanks in advance for any info... -cheers, CSB

Craig, I prefer the easier $2k questions ;-)
Supporting split-bus (multiple IO domain) configurations is vital. We agree that all of our serious datacenter customers use that as a best practice. As you've noted, OpsCenter has thus far not supported those configurations well, but that is being addressed as a top priority. One of the challenges we have with the Oracle VM Manager is its origin as a management entity for Xen deployments on x86, where there is a notion of a single "dom0". We are having to teach OVM Manager about LDoms control infrastructure (control domain, multiple IO domains etc.) - it is one of a dozen really important things that we are working madly on.
Brownfield is also in that dozen really important things - OVM manager has a leg up as it already has some brownfield support now; we expect even in the technology preview for SPARC that Oracle VM manager can discover LDoms already on your SPARC systems; the degree to which you can then actively manage those domains through the manager will be explained at time of release. There is a requirement to add some management agent bits to your existing server, and that your control domain is running S11. Best thing customers can do now is start moving their control domains and IO service domains to S11 in preparation not just of the Oracle VM Manager (and in general better management capabilities), but also for new advanced feature support. You can keep your application domains running S10.

• The Remote Desktop Management service terminated with the following service-specific error %%4294967295

Got this error after a reboot for the monthly MS hotfixes. After messing around too much, I finally found the problem and though that I would document it here since I have not found the solution anywhere I looked.
This is in a Remote Desktop setup of two RDCB using a SQL DB that is hosted on a third server. The Remote Desktop Management service would fail to start with the "The Remote Desktop Management service terminated with the following service-specific
error: %%4294967295" error because the SQL Server service hosting the database was offline. It had not automatically restarted after the same hotfixes. So I started the SQL server, then was able to get Remote Desktop Management to start on my RDCB without
any delay.

• SBS2011: Starting Exchange Management shell failed with the following Error 7BF3678A-829B-4F11-884C-4D 49060D84E6

SBS2011: Starting Exchange Management shell failed with the following Error 7BF3678A-829B-4F11-884C-4D 49060D84E6
This is not a REMOTE Exchange 2010 server, I'm launching it from the SBS2011 Console with the Domain Admin.
It looks like a permissions error, because when I use "RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR" on the exchange management tool, it launches with no errors and no issues...
I searched and I couldn't find anything that fits this exact error.
Thanks
Russ

• How to manage two iclouds with the same Apple ID

My wife and I share the same Apple ID and the same ICloud, but now we have shared all our contacts. Is there a possibility to create to IClouds to manage different contacts and agendas but with the possibility to continue using the same Apple ID to purchase in Itunes?

Just create a new iCloud account for one of you and sign in with it in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud. You can retain the common ID in iTunes - there's no problem about iTunes and iCloud having different logins.

Greetings,
javax.naming.NameNotFoundException. Root exception is
org.omg.CosNaming.NamingContextPackage.NotFound
=================
Below is the line of my LoginServlet class which is
referred to in the stack trace - Object object =
context.lookup
( "java:comp/env/ejb/WarehouseClerk" );The root of the naming context is 'java:comp/env' and this is where lookup automatically begins for EJBs and resources. IOW, by specifying "java:comp/env/ejb/WarehouseClerk" as the EJB lookup name the server is actually treating this as "java:comp/env/java:comp/env/ejb/WarehouseClerk". Specify only the ejb context ("ejb/WarehouseClerk") in your lookup and you should be fine.
Any help would be most appreciated.
SeanRegards,
Tony "Vee Schade" Cook

• 64-bit vs. 32-bit performance on SPARC hardware with the 1.6 JVM

I'm doing performance tuning for our Tomcat ckuster running on SPARC hardware. The 32-bit JVM gives us sufficient memory for now, but we are going to start using Terracotta for server striping so the extra memory the 64-bit JVM offers could be needed soon.
In addition to a bigger memory footprint, moving to the 64-bit JVM on SPARC has had a performance penalty. This FAQ shows a 10% - 20% performance hit when moving to the 64-bit JVM on SPARC on the 1.4 JVM:
http://java.sun.com/docs/hotspot/HotSpotFAQ.html#64bit_performance
I'm not interested in taking a 10% - 20% performance hit if I can avoid it. There's been discussion of using a 32-bit / 64-bit hybrid approach to avoid this problem so maybe the 1.6 JVM doesn't have the performance hit that the 1.4 JVM had:
http://blog.juma.me.uk/2008/10/14/32-bit-or-64-bit-jvm-how-about-a-hybrid/
Does anyone have current performance metrics for moving from the 32-bit JVM to the 64-bit JVM using the 1.6 JVM on SPARC?
Thanks.
Dean

Yes the 6380 FPU is shared between two cores. I just ran a diagnostic I made up that generates an array of 1 million random numbers, takes the average of those, and then excutes that repeatedly in a parallel loop. The 6380 showed a 20% to 30% improvement in speed between LV64 & LV32 bit depending on how many cores I told it to use. So that seems to make more sense. The other code that I was running that ran 4 times slower has a complicated clusters within a cluster structure including a large look up table array that is being passed around amoung several vi's. If it is moving that large amount of data around in memory, instead of just the pointer, that might explain it. But why then would the AMD run slower with 64 bit (by a factor of 4) when compared with the Core i7 which ran twice as fast, which kind of makes sense to me if it is moving that data around with twice the bandwidth?

• Are the application sqrs delivered with the OVM?

Hi
I would like to thank Wijnand Gritter, Jim Marion and Nicolas Gasparotto for there work on converting the templates from OVM to virtual box it was was very helpful it getting mine (HCM) up and running. Does anyone know if the sqrs were not included for some reason? I was trying to run per010 as a test and it was not found. I checked the error log and then the directory that it pointed to but the directory was not found. I used Wijnand Gritter blog to install. Any help would be appreciated.

when you look at the SQR config in psprcs.cfg on the vm is states
[SQR]
;=========================================================================
; Settings for SQR Software
;=========================================================================
SQRBIN=%PS_HOME%/bin/sqr/%PS_DB%/bin
PSSQRFLAGS=-ZIF%PS_HOME%/sqr/pssqr%LANGUAGECD%.unx
Print Log=N
Enhanced HTML=N
PSSQR1=%PS_APP_HOME%/sqr
PSSQR2=%PS_HOME%/sqr
PSSQR3=
PSSQR4=
PS_HOME/sqr contains all PeopleTools SQR
PS_APP_HOME/sqr contains the application SQR
The readme that came with the PIA-Batch vm states
AppTools (PS_APP_HOME): /opt/oracle/psft/pt/apptools (mounted from DB VM)
Also stated in Jim Marions blog, to mount PS_APP_HOME add following line to /etc/fstab
FSCM912DB:/opt/oracle/psft/ptdb/apptools /opt/oracle/psft/pt/apptools nfs    rsize=8192,wsize=8192,timeo=14,intr
(modify db server name with your db server name)
http://jjmpsj.blogspot.nl/2012/06/converting-peopletools-ovm-template-to.html
That way you do not have to copy the Application SQR from the DB vm to the PIA-Batch server

• HP Protect tool password manager not working with the new version of Mozilla: I got this alert: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program." please help

I have an HP ProBook 4520s. I have been using HP Protect tool's Password manager to store and manage my passords for all Login websites in Firefox 3.6. As a result, I just swiped my fingerprint to log on to any website.
After I installed the version 4 of Firefox, my all my login details do not work anymore. I have tried to reset them but I repeatedly get this error: "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (dpql) isn't associated with any program."
something like this would have been passed onto the address: "dpql://c:\program%20files%20(x86)\hewlett-packard\hp%20protecttools%20security%20manager\bin\dpminionlineids.dll/qlinkload.htm#id=2".
Although the password manager works with Internet Explorer 9, I need it to work with Firefox 4 as this is my preferred browser.
Please help. Thank you!

I guess this means that IE is more user friendly for HP Password Manager finger swipe recall of passwords, a favorite of mine. I still don't see a post from Firefox as to why they haven't produced fix. So I'll switch to IE until things change. I don't see value in downgrading to a Firefox version that's no longer going to be supported.

• Managing remote C800 with the wireless controller

We have a number of regional offices throughout the country with a C800 as the Internet facing router and it is also our wireless.
We have a Cisco wireless controller in the Data Center an we need to manage\monitor all the C800, but the problem is that those remote sites
are not VPN'd nor part of our WAN network.
Which setup do you

recommend:
1) 1) WLC to monitor the C800 using its public IP address
1) 2) Create a VPN tunnel from each of the remote sites to our data center and only allow wireless to go through for mgmt purposes
anany other options?
T

First question is which 800 do you have ? there's like 20 different versions out there.
If you talk about WLC, I would suppose you have something like the 880 ?
I'm afraid the WLC will need the internal AP ip address. So you would need to do so reverse nat to direct public ip address tarffic on capwap ports to the internal AP.
This or the VPN tunnel.

• Managing several components with the same set of button

Hi everybody,
I would like to have in my application a set of videos gathered in one row. Under the videos there are control buttons located. This part is quite simple.
I would also like the buttons to control the selected video. And this is where the problems begin. Initially, the buttons will manage the first video in a row. However, after selecting another video, the should manage the selected one. I have some dificculties with implementing a function that would override the CLICK attribute of the buttons after selecting a desired video. I am not sure if this is the best approach but don't have other ideas. What is a possible way to do it?
This is a part of the code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!-- Simple example to demonstrate the ViewStack layout container. -->
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml">
<mx:Script>
<![CDATA[
private function activateControls(event:MouseEvent):void
if (event.currentTarget.id == "video2")
play_button.click = "video2.play()";     // This does not work
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:Canvas width="629" height="236" id="panel_t">
<mx:VideoDisplay click="activateControls(event);" x="10" y="40" width="198" height="133" source="video/video.flv" id="video1"/>
<mx:VideoDisplay click="activateControls(event);" x="216" y="40" width="198" height="133" source="video/video.flv" id="video2"/>
<mx:VideoDisplay click="activateControls(event);" x="422" y="40" width="198" height="133" source="video/video.flv" id="video3"/>
</mx:Canvas>
<mx:Canvas width="629" height="40" id="panel_b">
<mx:Button label="PLAY" height="40" id="play_button" click="video1.play()"/>
<mx:Button label="PAUSE" height="40" id="pause_button" click="video1.pause()" x="65" y="0" />
<mx:Button label="STOP" height="40" id="stop_button" click="video1.stop()" x="138" y="0" />
</mx:Canvas>
</mx:Application>
Thanks,

You're going about it the wrong way.
A button component doesn't have a "click" property, it dispatches a "click" event.
So what you need to do is assign an event handler to the button click event, just like you did for the VideoDisplay instances.
What you can do is store a reference to the selected VideoDisplay (which is why I mention in your previous thread you don't need the id at all) and use that when a button is clicked.
private var selectedVideo:VideoDisplay = video1;
private function activateControls(event:MouseEvent):void {
selectedVideo = event.currentTarget as VideoDisplay;
private function playClickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
selectedVideo.play();
private function pauseClickHandler(event:MouseEvent):void {
selectedVideo.pause();
etc..
<mx:Button id="play_button" height="40" label="PLAY" click="playClickHandler(event);>
<mx:Button id="pause_button" height="40" label="PAUSE" click="pauseClickHandler(event);" />
<mx:Button id="stop_button" height="40" label="STOP" click="stopClickHandler(event);" />
Alternativly, you could use the selectedVideo in mxml, but that's usually not a good idea.
<mx:Button id="play_button" height="40" label="PLAY" click="selectedVideo.play();>
For instance, in this case, you probably want to stop all other videos before playing the selected one, or some other stuff may need to be done. That can easily be done in the button click event handler.
As a sidenote, you should look into using a different container than Canvas, for easier auto-layout.
A VBox might be better suited for displaying the VideoDisplay instances. No need for all the x, y positioning. Same goes for the Buttons, use an HBox container there.
Control the gaps and padding with verticalGap, horizontalGap, paddingLeft, paddingRight, paddingTop, paddingBottom of the containers, all of which can be set through CSS.

• Can I manage multiple iPads with the same Apple ID?

I have a client that will have 4 iPads at a trade show to use as displays for a small animation about their product. We will need to install a kiosk app from the app store on all iPads. I'm confused about how Apple IDs fit into all of this. Will I be able to use the same Apple ID for all 4 iPads and install the kiosk apps on all 4 devices? I realize I might have to pay for the app 4 times, which I'm fine with.
I found the iPad Configurator app, but since this is for a client, I dont want my work computer being used as the "main" computer to control them. Do I have any other options? I guess I'm looking for the best way to get the same apps on 4 different iPads using one Apple ID if that is possible. Thanks for any info!

Yes - you can use the sasme AppleID on multiple iOS devices, and install the same apps. You can downoad the apps directly to the device (via WiFi) and not neccessarily need to synch them.

• Can LMS 3.2 manage a 3560E with the new cisco SM-ES3-24-P cards installed?

LMS 3.2 on Solaris 10
The 3560E was previously managed by LMS, but I just added a cisco SM-ES3-24-P card into it.
This is a 24 port switch/router module that sits inside a 3945 router.
As of now, LMS considers this a separate device (b/c I added it as a new device) but it's Unknown.
I ran inventory collection on it and the job succeeded. I'm attaching the output from this job.
So it is able to talk to it, but I'm guessing there isn't a device package out there for it yet? I just updated all of the RME device packages about two weeks ago.
Thoughts?
Thanks,

FYI...I opened a TAC SR on this and they suggested I check for new Common Services device packages. I applied the two packages listed on the attachment.
I'm not sure which package did the trick, but this device is now recognized via LMS.
Thanks,
