  • ICloud Mail size (through iCloud Manage Storage tab)

So I have 43 messages in my inbox.  There is one excel spreadsheet attachment that is 14kb.  No photos, nothing.  I have deleted EVERYTHING from every possible mail folder that exists in icloud mail.  I have gone on the website to confirm deletions, I have double checked the Mail app on my iMac(Yosemite).  I then go on to my iPhone 6(which only has icloud as the sole mail acct), into the icloud settings tab, manage storage, and the "mail" says it is taking up 125 mb of space on icloud.  How is this possible?  It specifically says it is just mail, no backup, nothing else, just emails that take up 125 mb.  I find this hard to believe.  There is no way to manage this either like you could with other apps.
Can anyone help me solve this incongruency?  What am I missing?
    Thanks in advance.

It might be caused by storage "buffering".  If so, the space will adjust automatically when another iCloud feature uses the space previously allocated to your deleted email.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4873.

  • "manage storage" button does not response

I'm trying to manage my iCloud storage but the "manage storage" button does not response. My storage space is almost full, I'm bucking up both my iPhone4s and my ipad2. Both devices iOS 6.1.3. Any suggestions?

    I think I solved it.
I tried to restart in safe mode and lost my Finder icon from the Dock. So I searched forum and solution was to copy Dock.app. (HD>System>Library>CoreServices). I installed OS X on my external drive, updated to 10.5.1 and copied the Dock.app from external drive to my internal HD (while booted from external drive). It fixed the missing Finder icon and the Dashboard "Manage Widgets .." button.
    Hope it helps.

    Hi karlos16,
For the error message you are seeing, I found this article:
    iCloud: Troubleshooting creating backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3992
"This iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available."
This message is displayed when there is not enough storage space available in your iCloud Storage to complete your backup. You can either reduce the amount of data you are backing up under Backup Options, or you can buy more storage.
For the issue with the iPhone appearing to be unresponsive, I recommend this article for troubleshooting:

  • Help managing storage on ipad2 with iphoto

I recently travelled overseas and uploaded all my photos from my digital camera to the ipad.  Edited and made journals.
I have now saved all the journals as web pages via itunes, thanks to good advice by leonie and have exported all my edited photos to the camera roll and then synced them to my mac iphoto.
The mac now says there are no photos on the ipad.  That is true, the camera roll on the ipad is empty.  However in ios iphoto there is still 19.gb of data.  It seems to have retained information about all 2000 photos i edited, created tags for etc.  all the albums and events are now gone, but how do I clear out this information.  By exporting all the edited photos I think they are now new images from iphotos point of view so shouldn't it be Ok to delete it all?  I have the originals of all photos on an sd card if I need them.
I need all the space on the ipad for my next trip and the space it is using is now bigger than my ipad icloud storage limit of 15gb, so back ups to the icloud wont work either.
Any ideas?  I couldn't find any previous discussion on the site about issues managing storage?
    Thanks
    Veronica

Deleting photos in iPhoto on the iPad is not so easy. If you want all photos gone, the quick-and-dirty way would be to uninstall iPhoto and download it again. That would delete all photos at once, but also your journals.
iPhot does not really store photos, other than for journals, and also it will keep copies of edited photos, if you delete the original from the camera roll.
    See:  What are albums?
iPhoto creates the following albums as needed:
Camera Roll: Photos you take with this device or save to the Camera Roll.
Recent: Photos most recently viewed in iPhoto.
Edited: Photos you edit using iPhoto. This includes photos you add captions to.
    Flagged: Photos you flag.
Favorites: Photos you tag as favorites.
[Custom]: Photos you add a custom tag to. For every custom tag you create, iPhoto creates a new album in which all photos with that tag appear.
iTunes: Photos imported from iTunes using file sharing.
[App]: Photos sent directly from other apps to iPhoto.
Beamed: Photos beamed from another device.
AirDrop: Photos transferred from another device using AirDrop.
Photo Box: If a photo appears in an album (Edited, Favorites, Journals, or custom) and you delete the photo from your device, the photo remains in the album. If you remove the photo’s edits and tags, or delete the photo from the journal, iPhoto moves the photo to the Photo Box album (and removes it from the album it was in). If you edit or tag a photo in the Photo Box album, or add it to a journal, the photo is removed from the Photo Box album (and added to the appropriate album).
Look at the albums "Edited" and "Photo Box". These are iPhoto's safety copies. To be able to delete these Photos, you will have to undo the edits, tags, captions. Otherwise will iPhoto not delete the photos.
It might be easier after all, to back up your iPad to iCloud and simply to uninstall iPhoto and reinstall it todelete all photos at once, if you are really sure, that you saved all photos to your Mac.

  • Hi, how do I manage storage? Disk Utility says "other" is taking up most of my storage but I don't know where to find "other".  Please help!

Hi, how do I manage storage? Disk Utility says “other” is taking up most of my storage but I don’t know where to find “other".  Please help!

For information about the Other category in the Storage display, see this support article. If the Storage display seems to be inaccurate, try rebuilding the Spotlight index.
Empty the Trash if you haven't already done so. If you use iPhoto, empty its internal Trash first:
              iPhoto ▹ Empty Trash
Do the same in other applications, such as Aperture, that have an internal Trash feature. Then restart the computer. That will temporarily free up some space.
According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation—not the mythical 10%, 15%, or any other percentage. You also need enough space left over to allow for growth of the data. There is little or no performance advantage to having more available space than the minimum Apple recommends. Available storage space that you'll never use is wasted space.
When Time Machine backs up a portable Mac, some of the free space will be used to make local snapshots, which are backup copies of recently deleted files. The space occupied by local snapshots is reported as available by the Finder, and should be considered as such. In the Storage display of System Information, local snapshots are shown as  Backups. The snapshots are automatically deleted when they expire or when free space falls below a certain level. You ordinarily don't need to, and should not, delete local snapshots yourself. If you followed bad advice to disable local snapshots by running a shell command, you may have ended up with a lot of data in the Other category. Ask for instructions in that case.
See this support article for some simple ways to free up storage space.
You can more effectively use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper (ODS) or GrandPerspective (GP) to explore the volume and find out what's taking up the space. You can also delete files with it, but don't do that unless you're sure that you know what you're deleting and that all data is safely backed up. That means you have multiple backups, not just one. Note that ODS only works with OS X 10.8 or later. If you're running an older OS version, use GP.
Deleting files inside a photo or iTunes library will corrupt the library. Changes to such a library must be made from within the application that created it. The same goes for Mail files.
Proceed further only if the problem isn't solved by the above steps.
ODS or GP can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To see everything, you have to run it as root.
    Back up all data now.
If you have more than one user account, make sure you're logged in as an administrator. The administrator account is the one that was created automatically when you first set up the computer.
Install the app you downloaded in the Applications folder as usual. Quit it if it's running.
Triple-click anywhere in the corresponding line of text below on this page to select it, then copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper 2>&-
    sudo /Applications/GrandPerspective.app/Contents/MacOS/GrandPerspective 2>&-
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator. Ignore any other messages that appear in the Terminal window.
The application window will open, eventually showing all files in all folders, sorted by size. It may take a few minutes for the app to finish scanning.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of doing this. Don't delete anything as root. If something needs to be deleted, make sure you know what it is and how it got there, and then delete it by other, safer, means. When in doubt, leave it alone or ask for guidance.
When you're done with the app, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Icloud storage full - manage storage

    Hi,
So my ipad is saying that my icloud storage is almost full and it is preventing me from doing a lot of things.
I go to settings > icloud > storage and backup > manage storage
It says my ipad is using 63.2MB and Mail is using 113.8MB - this obviously does not add up to 5GB, yet my storage is saying I have used 4.8GB of 5GB on icloud.
I have tried deleting the back ups and even turning off back up to icloud.  Then I turned the icloud back up on again and did a fresh back up and the result was still 4.8GB of usage wit the above statistics for ipad and Mail.
I am so confused.  I am obviously not using 5GB of storage and don't want to purchase anymore, does anyone have any ideas of what is wrong!?
    Thanks,
    S

Why does my iPad not show up in manage storage?

How to Remove “Other” Data from iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch
    http://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-remove-other-data-from-iphone/
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6/7, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • My Manage Storage in ipad3 cloud is showing two Backups. "iPadA" consumed 4.2 GB and "iPadB" consumed 20MB.

Recently I received my replaced ipad3. Now my Manage Storage of current ipad3 cloud is showing two Backups. "iPadA" consumed 4.2 GB and "iPadB" consumed 20MB. iPadA has photos that taken by my previous iPad. How can I restore photos from iPadA cloud backup? iPadA consumed almost all free icloud space but at the moment I cannot see any photo saved at iPadA Cloud backup and i dont want to loss those photos.
For your information iPadA was name of my old iPad3 and iPadB is name of my current iPad3. I am using the same Apple ID as before.
Can anybody help me in restoring my backup from iPadA?

In general theory, one now has the Edit button for their posts, until someone/anyone Replies to it. I've had Edit available for weeks, as opposed to the old forum's ~ 30 mins.
That, however, is in theory. I've posted, and immediately seen something that needed editing, only to find NO Replies, yet the Edit button is no longer available, only seconds later. Still, in that same thread, I'd have the Edit button from older posts, to which there had also been no Replies even after several days/weeks. Found one that had to be over a month old, and Edit was still there.
Do not know the why/how of this behavior. At first, I thought that maybe there WAS a Reply, that "ate" my Edit button, but had not Refreshed on my screen. Refresh still showed no Replies, just no Edit either. In those cases, I just Reply and mention the [Edit].
Also, it seems that the buttons get very scrambled at times, and Refresh does not always clear that up. I end up clicking where I "think" the right button should be and hope for the best. Seems that when the buttons do bunch up they can appear at random around the page, often three atop one another, and maybe one way the heck out in left-field.
While I'm on a role, it would be nice to be able to switch between Flattened and Threaded Views on the fly. Each has a use, and having to go to Options and then come back down to the thread is a very slow process. Jive is probably incapable of this, but I can dream.

  • I have deleted all emails from my ICloud email account but my manage storage still shows that the mail is using 9.7GB.  Why isn't the number decreasing if all emails have been deleted?

I have deleted all emails from my ICloud email account but my manage storage still shows that the mail is using 9.7GB.  Why isn't the number decreasing if all emails have been deleted?

It might be caused by storage "buffering".  If so, the space will adjust automatically when another iCloud feature uses the space previously allocated to your deleted email.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4873.

  • What will happen to the photos on my iPhone 5 if I turn off Camera Roll under Manage Storage/This Phone?

I only have 238 mb of Cloud storage left for my phone.  When I checked what is using all of my space, I saw that 4.2GB of space is used by Camera Roll.  All of the Camera Roll pictures are in iPhoto on my Mac Book Pro and most are also archived on an external drive.  Will they disappear from my phone and/or computer if I uncheck the Camera Roll for back ups?  What happens if I do that and turn it back on a week from now?

They will not be erased from your phone, they will only not be included in the iCould backup anymore.
If you take many photos and videos with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you might notice that they take up most of your iCloud storage. To check the size of the backup on your device in iOS 8 or later, tap Settings > iCloud > Storage > Manage Storage. (If you're using an earlier version of iOS, tap Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage.) Then tap the name of your iOS device. The backup size is under Photo Library.
To reduce the size of your Photo Library backup, save your photos and videos to your computer, then manually back up your iOS device. If you want to keep your photos and videos on your iOS device, you can turn off Photo Library in Backup using the steps above or purchase more storage. If there are any photos that you don't want to keep, you can delete them. Just open photos and select the item you want to delete. Then click the Trash icon and tap Delete Photo.

  • Manage storage 5s options

I am trying to manage my storage options on my 5S but I do not see any of the options under my device in the "Manage Storage" that are supposed to be there.   The only action available is an option to delete my backup.
Where can I find the breakdown of what's backed up in my account? What am I missing?

So that is what I did.  I followed steps 1-4:
Tap Settings, and then tap iCloud.
    Tap Storage & Backup.
    Tap Manage Storage.
Tap your iOS device in the Backups area.
But when it comes to seeing the follow:
Under Backup Options, turn off any items that you no longer wish to back up.
All I get is the "Delete Backup." option.

  • Difference between extent management and segment space management

    Hello,
Could you tell me the difference between extent management and segment space management interms of datablocks?

After 10g, default tablespace is locally managed and with this creation, your segment's spaces are managed "automatically".
Automatic segment space management is onlyt avaliable to locally managed tablespaces.
    The logic of the automatic segment space management is;
For instance, we have a rectangle cube which is totally empty (1 extent - 8 segments - 64 block in default). If we enter a new data to our table, data is stored inside this cube with it's information. (default 8k). If our data must be splitted, check row chaining for further information.
At this point, oracle decides which block is filled with the entered data. It automatically fills the emty blocks. You can use this only if your tablespace is locally managed and your segment space managemet is auto.
    On the other hand,
If we create dictionary managed tablespace,
Data is stored in "dictionary" (tables in SYS schema). This is a bit slower than locally managed tablespaces. So filling the extents, segments and blocks will be slow too. You need to specify the PCTUSED, FREELISTS, FREELISTS GROUPS for the storage of the data. If segment space managent is auto, you don't need to define those values.
In summary, locally managed tablespaces with automatic segment space management is Oracle's maybe the most important feature. I am not using dictionary managed tablespaces and i advice don't use it either. In the end, this is an upgrade of using segment spaces much more faster, easier and reliable, trustable.
PS: You will need to check "High Water Mark" for automatic segment space management.
